Saxophone Horror Story (Yes, it can happen to you!)
Alright, so we had a jazz band performance at AP night at the school and my reed was chipped in like 20 different places. Not in any condition to be played, nor would it make a decent sound. The other director, who had keys to the supply box, wasn't there. So I do the only thing I could think of-I bit the top into a level line and played it like that. Man, did i sound like s**t that night. But my reed did work! wink
By the way, never do that. Incredibly bad. My lesson teacher just sighed and rolled his eyes at me when I told him that!

Heh, that's why if I get down to two reeds I make sure to go out and buy more, and I have a couple emergency reeds stashed.

I've only had one split on me so far all year... which is good seeing as they're fairly expensive. ^^;;

Congrats! ^^ I wish I was on second tenor in jazz 1... but no, I have to be first tenor in jazz 2, so I end up with high notes and solos that I can barely play given that it's my first year in jazz band. >.<

Well I feel stupid......
Padguards are these things that you put inside the main body of the sax. It's got like yarney stuff on it and it's supposed to do something for your instrument....Not sure what.
Perhaps as a quicker way than the spit rag, except you leave it in the main part.

Miangel Nicholai Maxwell Nappy Nicholai Maxwell As well as that, I must comment on how crazy bari sax players are, seeing as I am one...We all tend to be a little corrupt, a little crazy...and usually more than a little weird. 3nodding I completely agree. I am one psychopatic little bari player. Well, bari players end up strangely, though I don't know why. Also, I am doubly weird because I play the oboe too, and they are the strangest of all instruments. Normal people play trumpet. xp Yeah, oboe players are definitely weird. XD I only know one... but she's a good friend of mine and one of the strangest people I've ever met. I wouldn't be so sure about trumpet players being normal though. One of the weirdest guys in our band plays trumpet... and another one of the trumpet players isn't exactly sane, either. (At burrito dinner night, he spread the beans on the burrito with his hands... thank God he had gloves XD). But I think as a whole, saxes are the weirdest section. 3nodding I don't think I've ever met a truly sane sax player.... Well, all our saxes are "normal", except for me, at least in the alto section. Almost all of them are just popular people who happen to be stuck in band. So, our section must be an exception.

Ah... yeah, I have one of those. I use it to clean the spit out of the body (I use the rag for everything else), but I don't leave it inside the sax - it won't fit into the case. So I stick it next to the sax.

I play alto saxophone (Woohoo!!).
At our football game last Friday, my reed was chipped, but still played. But then we went on third quarter break, and when I came back afterwards, it was split all the way down the middle >.< It's a mess now....

Miangel __penguin__ yeah our band is pretty big, we have about 120 people including the drumline. i think alto saxes might be the biggest section, its either us, trumpets, or clarinets. but i still can't beleive i'm the only freshman in my whole section eek Wow... we only have 65-70 people between two bands. Flutes is the biggest section overall... then clarinets and trumpets... then saxes. But in just my band (wind ensemble), saxes are second biggest. eek eek Only 65-70 people?!?!?!. . . .TWO BANDS?!?!?! We have one band of 39 people. Beat that. Only 4 saxes.
