Perri stepped into the lab once more, once five days had passed and her unit's "body" was ready. Man, did that ever sound sketchy, but what could you do? She was in a different business outfit, but still dressed to convey her front of being a young tech tester for a decent corporate company. She'd even brought the chip in a padded briefcase.
"Hello? I'm looking for Doctor Brune?" Why was it so quiet?

Doc stepped out of the back lab room and instantly smiled. "Thank you for coming! You have the chip? Good!"
He just assumed she did. Because not having it would be stupid.
"Come right this way."
He turned tail, and, assuming Perri was following, headed back into the lab.

Perri followed him quickly, case swinging and high heels clacking on the tiled floor.
"May I ask where we're going?"

"Why into my lab, of course!" exclaimed Doc, practically dancing around a corner between CPU towers. Three more corners later, he and Perri had arrived at a clearing in the computer equipment where the form of a small child with bright blue hair lay prone on a gurney.
"Chip please," Doc said, extending a hand to Perri.

Perri raised an eyebrow when she saw the body, but she did as she was asked. Flipping the case onto an empty lab table, she snapped it open and carefully extracted the disk, handing it over.
"You do realize this is rather on the creepy side of normal, right?"

Doc accepted the chip with a flourish and strode back over to the body.
"It's not normal at all," he replied. "It's rather extraordinary. Mechanical life!"
He propped the body into a sitting position and flipped an access hatch on the back of its head open to slide the chip in. Once it clicked into place, he closed the hatch and allowed the body to lay back on the table.
At first, the body was motionless, but as a few seconds passed, the lights behind its eyes began to give it a living expression. Its face twisted into an innocent grin.
And then it sat up, hopped off the table, and every last trace of innocence vanished when she - for it was female - giggled.
Nothing with a giggle that mischievious could be up to anything but no good.

Perri blinked, not used to a mechanical person, you know, waking up and laughing and stuff. The trained part of brained screamed at her for breaking character, but it was soon silenced by common sense. Who wouldn't be overly suprised by the scene before her?
A smile slowly stole across the young woman's features of its own accord. "I like your hair."
Blue frowned and twisted, trying to get a look at said locks. "Is it sticking up funny?"

Doc smiled and patted Blue's head. "No, it's fine," he assured her, turning his attention to Perri. "Now, she can eat foods that are primarily sugars - carbohydrates, fruits, candy. That sort of thing. I've devised a system that can derive electricity and energy from them. Proteins and fats aren't good for her, and too much will clog her system. Er... Sleep mode on a regular basis is definitely a good idea, and that's about all."
He waved them out of the lab.
"I'll see you both around!"
Was that a threat?

"Can I have Boo Berry cereal?" Blue asked Perri as the older woman took her hand and led her out of the lab.
"Sure. We'll even stock up so we have a bunch left when Halloween is over. How do you know about that?"
"You sang that song about it, remember?"
Perri rolled her eyes and nodded. "Ah yes... hmm? Oh, thank you Doctor. Be well."
The small girl watched everything as they passed it with a sponge-like interest, but she only really perked up when she saw Perri's car. "What is that?"
"That is my car. A 1967 Thunderbird, to be specific." the human told her, helping her into the passenger seat and belting her in. T-Birds didn't usually have seatbelts, but she'd installed some decently vintage looking ones so her insurance company wouldn't have a spasm.
"Does it go fast?" the child asked, running a reverent hand over the leather and paneling.
"Very fast."
Blue beamed. "Go fast!"
Perri chuckled. "When we get to the highway, where we can, okay?"

It was another summons that brought Amyla to the lab again, and she was both excited and a bit nervous. A new child... one who was completely different from all of her other children and wards. And to make things interesting, she had one of her other children along with her, to see what this new summons was about.
Kayce was striding alongside Amyla. She was dressed in her usual dark shirt, jeans, and boots, her swords strapped carefully across her back. She had been very curious about the whole matter. She liked the idea of a new sibling with interest in swordfighting, horseback riding, and a general dislike of socialization.
Thus, the two females were striding up to the entrance to the lab, both feeling quite excited, though only Amyla's face showed it. It wouldn't do for Kayce to demonstrate emotion like that. It just wasn't done.

Doc was watching them on the security monitor and he buzzed them in before getting up to join the mother and daughter in the lobby.
"I'm sorry about the wait," he said, "I had to wait for a part shipment. But it was definitely worth it. She turned out excellently."
He focused a moment on the child next to Amyla.
"And this lovely young lady is...?"

It hadn't really been a wait to Amyla, mostly because she had been excitedly thinking about Eowyn's impending arrival and had been busy about so many things. She was startled out of her thoughts as the door unlocked for her and Kayce to enter, and it took her a second to comprehend before she opened the door and ushered her fae child inside. "Oh, I'm sure she did. I'm excited," she said in respond to the doctor's statement, quite eager to see her new child.
"Kayce," the fae responded to the doctor's question, turning her flat blue gaze toward the unfamiliar figure. Really, she wasn't all that interested in the man, but the fact that he was going to lead her to her new, and possibly quite interesting, sister made her be polite. If she was polite, maybe this whole thing would go more quickly, for she was more intrigued than her mother, if that was possible.

"Lovely name," Doc replied, smiling. Not to keep them waiting, he motioned for them to follow and strode back into the lab. It was in its usual state of disarray, with server cluster towers making up hallways and clearings.
As confusing as it looked, Doc clearly knew where he was going. He expertly lead them back to a small clearing where a little girl lay motionless on the table. At the end of the table was a small child-sized practice sword.
Doc took the chip from Amyla and strode over to the child. After looking through her styled blonde hair for a moment, he flipped open an access panel and slid the chip into a slot inside. Closing the compartment again, he lay the child back down on the table.
For a moment, she was motionless.
"Chip initialization," explained Doc. "The hardware and software is getting all nice and acquainted."
A lively gleam came into the little girl's gray-green eyes. She stirred, sat up, retrieved the sword, and sat smugly on the table, looking rather proud of herself.

Amyla and Kayce followed at a brisk pace, Kayce's cool facade slipping just a bit to show a tiny bit of eagerness beneath. The obsessively neat fae took in the seemingly messy surroundings but promptly ignored it, too focused on the doctor and the table he led them to. So that was her new sister.
Amyla eagerly relinquished the chip, watching as the doctor inserted it into the child. Her smile widened as the girl sat up and picked up her sword. "Hello, Eowyn," she said happily.
Eowyn gave her a curious look and then looked right to Kayce, obviously spying the swords strapped crosswise on the fae's back. "Kayce?" she said, her sister's only response being a regal smile.
A tiny smirk of self-pity crossed Amyla's face. Well, she felt unloved. Ah well. "Is there any basic care knowledge I should have?" she asked Doc as Eowyn and Kayce eyed each other with interest.

"Actually, yes," said Doc, eying the two newly-united 'sisters'. "I may have said it before, but it bears repeating. Her body runs on a very complex carbohydrates - to - electricity generator. In other words, she needs to eat. Only primarily carbohydrate-based foods, though. And liquids are okay. Her systems and body are completely waterproofed. Proteins and fats can clog it up, though. Part of the generator requires her to sleep on a regular basis. If she ever goes too long without eating or sleeping, she'll go into power-save mode, which is kind of like a diabetic coma. You shouldn't have to worry about that."
"She's been reinforced for physical activity and weapons training, in keeping with her origins," he added, "But I haven't got the nanotech up to that level yet, so you'll have to come back here for her first growings. I'll keep working on it."
He gave the family a last smile. "Good luck!"
