The Mellophonist Question to Low Brass Players!!! Hello. I'm going to be going from Mellophone to Baritone in Marching Band next season. I will be the only girl in the section, and I'd just like some help on something! My boyfriend (baritonist) won't show me the fingerings and I need a wee bit of help! whee What are the fingerings for all of the notes? I'd be so happy if you could help! Thanks much! I can't wait til next season! Trebble or bass cleft?

They're making me learn bass, which is really hard coming from a super treble instrument. I'm going to be second chair, which is scary, so I have to be ready! This would be so much appreciated! Oh! What is the smallest baritone mouthpiece, if there is such a thing? I'd like one because my tone is a bit thin because the mouthpiece is HUGE!

If you mean the mouthpiece is just too big dimensionally, you're out of luck unless you can find a smaller-diameter one from another company. However, if you're talking inner diameter, I'd suggest going to your local music store and perusing the inventory. I've been trying to learn trombone and I have a C-12 for that, but by the time I'd started I'd been playing tuba for around a year :p . I switched from trumpet, and now my trumpet mouthpiece seems so tiny...

So, how many tuba players in here use the fourth valve? I think the fourth valve roxx0rz. With the fourth valve I can play three octaves on the Db, D, Eb, E, and F scales. whee

Andy1989 I play Bass Clarinet and I honestly don't know why, but I am apperantly classified as Low Brass in my High School...Probably because Tenor Saxes are in Low Brass and I am pretty much one of those but can't go as high and can go a lot lower and is a member of the Clarinet Family. If that count's as Low Brass to anyone here...Than I play one Lowbrass Instrument...The Bass Clarinet! xp I know how that goes, I was classified as Low Brass when I played Bari sax, so if you count that, plus Tuba, Sousaphone, Baritone BC and Trombone, I tend toward the lower end of the musical spectrum if you will...I sing Bass, I play Bari sax, Baritone, Tuba/Sousa, Bass guitar, and Trombone...I gave up Chorus for Jazz band last year, tho, and I'm not goin back...

4th vaulves rock. I'm like the only one that uses it and when marching comes along I feel so lost because I don't have one o_o;;
I love chairtest weeks. I do nothing for a whole week while everyone else plays and then I play at the and and it's normally really easy music or nothing at all. Woo!

whee I'm getting lessons to play tuba for marching season next year. I'm switching from a Bb clarinet so it's a little difficult for me to get used to the mouthpiece and the bass clef. sweatdrop I love the tuba though! It's fun to be the only girl at my school to play it. whee

Ami-Kae I play trombone, and I always will play trombone, but I pick up my friend's baritone every now and then, and I can play it better than him, if I've got a fingering chart. sweatdrop (He hates me so much. In that way that friends do. whee ) I'm thinking about marching the sousaphone later, maybe junior or senior year? Depends on how many rookies we get. i play trombone and i probably always will. i don't like the idea of switching instruments. trombone girls rule!!

be that the case, I am lord of the low brass, I already play tuba, baritone, and trombone, the only way you can beat me is if you learn baritone in both clefs, and I could do that easily enough...
