Help her? Kismet stifled the urge to laugh. She'd heard that before. Men tried to tell her that they would be the best thing that ever happened to her. None had succeeded. And of course not, considering the type of men they were. This one seemed to have other things on his mind however, and that was both a relief and a puzzle.

At the mention of the card, Kismet's hand flew to her chest, or rather the inside pocket of her robe. The thick paper was kept as close as possible, and while Kismet naturally couldn't have it on her person at all times, she tried to at least have it concealed nearby. After all, it wasn't everyday one was gifted something with the promise that it would "make her dreams come true."

Well, she heard the sentiment often enough, but that was all.

Her hand was still over her heart, and the card, when her voice returned. "What's going to happen? How did you know I would be here?" And then the most obvious question. "Who are you?"

The Doctor dropped his package in confusion when a rock pelted him on the back, yelling out in shock and fear. One hand clutched his heart and the other fumbled and twitched as his side, the surprise nearly caused him to lose his control. Carefully, Severin composed himself and turned to see who it was that had hit him, and who it was babbling uneccessarily behind him.

"Ah.. It's.. i-it's quite alright. I'm just passing through," Dr. Oddssen murmured awkwardly, his voice quiet and rather strained to keep normality. His blue-gray eyes ran over the man, who had claimed his name was Larry, once more. At first Severin had sized the man up as harmless, perhaps it was proper to rethink.

"I... I am Doctor Severin Oddssen," He stumbled without knowing or putting into thought that his name might herald who he truthfully is. Cursing himself constantly in his mind he extended a hand to cover up a grimace."It's, ah.. Nice to meet you Larry. No hard feelings for the misplaced rock."

Reaching one hand to his face, he slowly, deliberately removed the glasses to reveal his eyes, dim and clouded. "I am a being who transcends time. Long ago, I traded my precious vision for the ability to hear the song of the human heart."

"Now," Nameless continued, replacing his darkened shades, "you should be off soon, or else you won't make your appointment. The Velvet Room can be found when you desire it. You will know it when you find it."

Bowing his head in farewell, the man shuffled away, tapping his cane on the ground in front of him. He turned a corner, and disappeared entirely.

"How can anyone freely give trust in such a godforsaken place?" Kismet snapped without thinking. Then she softened slightly, listening to the man again. When she saw his eyes her own widened, horrified. Whoever he was, he clearly understood painful choices and sacrifice, and regardless she had no right to speak so harshly.

Yet before she could apologize he was bowing out of their conversation. How many enigmas did he plan to present her with? The latest one- finding a place she'd never heard of- was so perplexing that Kismet didn't notice the man's departure until he was turning the corner. "Wait!" she cried, not bothering to worry about watchers. She ran after him, sandals flapping against the ground. "How am I supposed to know-"

But as she turned the corner, the street was empty.

Kismet was rather confused, and the fact that she was tired and hungry didn't help. But thoughts of finding breakfast were gone. Apparently she had an appointment, and it would never do to be tardy. It was certainly nice of them to make the appointment early in the day though, whoever "they" were. "Igor," she murmured alive. "He said Igor."

With renewed purpose Kismet started walking again. If she couldn't find this "velvet room" she would simply have a quick snack before she was due at work. And if she could... all the better.

Larry didn't show any sign he recognized the name, mostly relieved the fellow wasn't angry. "Lawrence Gilman. But just Larry's okay."

He grinned sheepishly, his relief obvious. "I'm afraid my aim's not quite upper tier. At least in professional circles. But I'm sure I could tromp any six-year-old from here to Kensington. ...A Doctor, did you say?" Larry gave a low, appreciative whistle. "My schooling just got me through reading, writing, and 'rthametic before I sailed off to seek my fortune. Medicine is a difficult trade. Couldn't do it, myself. Weak stomach. Very messy. Unless you're in Science instead? I always forget about that branch of the title."

He brought the slingshot out from behind his back and stuck it in an available pocket.

Severin was surprised at how much, and fast this fellow could talk, and was rather intimidated by it. He was sure that his name had not rung any bells in the man's head, which was a comforting fact. "I-I'm, er, was, rather in the field of science and mental therapy.." Oddssen said slowly and quietly, his voice holding an odd timbre from dissuse whenever it became loud enough.

He was aware of the package of meat at his feet that had been dropped in shcok, but decided to leave it alone for the moment lest Larry's attention was drawn to it. He'd rather not have this curious man asking questions about its contents, better to avoid anything that could rise suspiscions.

The Doctor was quite flustered, and unsure of what to say or do in a situation like this. He had never seen anyone in the Boneyard before, unless they weren't alive, and honestly never thought he would. his curisoity twinged when he thought of why Larry might be walking through a Graveyard in the morning.

All of his thoughts were cut short when a soft mist of rain began to splatter down from the heavy clouds. Sev peered upwards, momentarily forgetting his new aquaintance, and managed to get his small spectacles speckled with water.

"Ah! Well that's much better for a man with a weak stomach. I think. I suppose it depends on the patient, doesn't it? Fascinating thing, the human mind."

Larry was dealing with his own degree of starvation from affable human contact. He had recently encountered what he called a "patch of one-sided friendliness" on which he was on the friendly side and everybody else seemed to be on the other.

He noted the cause of the Doctor's distraction with curiousity.

"Tut tut, Looks like rain! And I've forgotten my umbrella... Or, no, I sold that a few months ago, didn't I?" Larry seemed genuinely baffled by the question.

The Doctor was one who was easily distracted, and tended to allow his mind to wander away. He had a nasty habit of sitting, staring at nothing, for hours on end, not moving nor showing any notice of the outside world. He looked back down at Larry, he happened to be a little over a foot taller than the man.

"Yes, the human mind is a very intriguing thing.." He said softly, a small smile forming at the corner of his lips. This Larry was quite amusing, one of the first cheery people he had come across in years. Severin took off his spectacles and placed them in the same pocket as his Tarot card, which he had forgotten in the rush of meeting someone new, or rather, the shock of meeting a stone, then the person who had thrown it.

"It's only a drizzle," The Doctor observed, tilting his head and pursing his lips in his habit of thought. "An unpleasant one, at that."

"Oh, I don't think it's so very unpleasant. It's good for the plants to get a little to drink every now and again without drowning. And it's warm out. Rain in the warm seasons is always kind of nice."

Larry laughed.

"And here we are, talking about the weather! We've managed to dig into the most essential subject of small talk, do you realize? I feel like I should go back to covering basic introductions, but we've already managed all that."

After some consideration, Larry thumbed over his shoulder.

"I don't suppose you live in the Lost District? I'm in the Northern part, so I'm close to the Boneyard anyway. It's generally a quieter walk than cutting through town. Not that I'm particularly quiet, but I can't practice my slingshot along the way otherwise."

Returning to sit next to the two Feyd ‘s smile turned to a frown and there was regret in his voice, “Ah yes… the soldiers are our main patrons these days. They’re good enough and keep us fed but they scare the rest of the clientele.” He paused for a moment and made a face before leaning forwards to confide in Adlei, “They’re rowdy too, no respect for a good drama.”

...

“You never did tell me your names or why you were on my roof.”

Adlei hesitated, her hand laying against Elliot's forehead. Even if Feyd did not have malicious intentions at the moment, that did not mean he would not betray them later--especially if motivated by torture. However, it had been a long time since she was able to converse with someone other than Elliot, and she felt that lying to someone who had been both helpful and understanding would be...improper.

"I...I'm sorry, I'm afraid I can't tell you, not yet," she answered slowly. "My companion and I have done some foolish things. And since then..."

Adlei's arms began to tremble, her eyes closed. When she spoke again, her voice was an unsteady whisper, "Oh, my Lord...I didn't think about it... I didn't think... This place is full of people."

Taking the boy's shoulder, she spoke sternly, "Elliot, wake up. We need to move. We can't bring that...that thing here. We need to get away from these people."

Suddenly, the young man's eyes snapped open. He exhaled deeply, air coming from his mouth like warm breath on a cold morning. Chips of ice flaked off his skin, as though he was a statue coming to life.

Larry's talkative personality was both amusing and stifling, Severin didn't know how to respond to someone so light and seemingly carefree. Not to mention he changed the subjects eratically. "I guess we have been making small talk, which seems appropriate since we have just met.." The Doctor said, frowning a little and thinking it over in his mind. He put deep thought into what he said, and considered everything throughoughly.

Upon the question of where he lived, Oddssen blanched. What lie could he think up to satisfy? Maybe he could make do by saying something simple, a white lie, perhaps?
"I live nowhere for sure. More of travelling to a place that might suit my needs for a time, then moving on once the uses are expired."

Feyd seemed disappointed but he didn’t press the subject. From their conversation so far he guessed it had something to do with the Peace Enforcement and Sehket. He was sorry he asked when he saw how her expression changed, she had seemed so much happier when they were talking about stories. He had real qualms with her keeping secrets, it was as natural as breathing since the awakening,. Feyd had been about to tell her just that, and to apologize for upsetting her so when she spoke again and tried to rouse her companion.

After that he forgot what he was going to say.

Wide eyed he stared openly at Elliot as he woke, eyeing the flakes that drifted from his skin. He didn’t seem fearful— amazed perhaps, but not fearful. Thom had always said he was a poor judge of danger, but Feyd prided himself as being a good judge of character, which was probably the only thing that kept him from connecting the strange boy to the even stranger beast the lurked outside the city walls.

“What thing?” Feyd leaned forward, terribly curious and a bit lost. “What’s happening to your friend?”

That had to be the worst case of dandruff Feyd had ever seen…

"How romantic!" Larry exclaimed. Then, amending, "I don't mean romantic-romantic, but more romantic in the traditional sense, you know, like the old heroes kind. Although I suppose the effect's a little frazzled because you can't do any world traveling...the whole monsters thing."

That Severin could be withholding the location of his home for security reasons, much in the way that the fellow with glasses could have been lying about the Velvet Room, didn't quite occur to Larry.

He was instantly taken with the idea. Sleeping where you liked, not setting down roots, but sucking up changes and thriving in them...it was the sort of carefree lifestyle that held an instant appeal. He belatedly remembered how nice it was to come home when he was tired, and some of the smaller things that he appreciated in his current lifestyle.

"I'll admit, however, there is something nice about having a home to...well, come home to. Have you ever found some place that tempted you to stay on?"

Elliot shook his head vigorously, sending minute fragments of ice out of his hair. "How long did I sleep? Not too long I hope," he said, voice energetic. Touching Adlei's face with his fingers, he said more softly, "But you look like you haven't gotten any rest at all."

"The thing..." Adlei murmurred, staring past Elliot to Feyd. "You see...Sometimes, those beasts outside the walls are allowed inside the city for special hunts. The Peace Enforcement officers are bad, but those beasts...they really have no restraint."

As if noticing Feyd for the first time, Elliot leaned back, watching the other man curiously. "My mistress calls them beasts, but they're actually demons. Quite a difference, really. Some of them are fairly clever, not dumb animals at all."

"Not dumb animals!" Adlei exclaimed. "Did you see what that thing did to those people in Lystar? We need to get away from here before we leave a scent for the monsters."
