Elizabeth once more closed her eyes against the shirt, her brows gently drawing down into a little frown. After a while her eyes opened once more, seraching briefly for who was beside her to find the youngster who had rescued her. The memory of the incident was a little foggy in her mind, although so was her current vision.
Her eyes slowly lifted up from the face of Racheal to another set of eyes with a few strands of golden hair brushing across them in a little cool breeze that had followed him in. They seemed so familiar.
---
Selden escorted Scarlette right to the door, inviting her in to the room with a silent little gesture as he himself entered as well. It was there he found the young woman who had been his charge earlier in his life along with what he could only guess to be his understudy's understudy.
He quietly stepped forward and leant over Rachael's shoulder to inspect what she was doing. "Human's are such a diverse breed. They never cease to amaze me." he promptly stated. Elizabeth flinched slightly at the sudden sound, melodic as it was, that broke through the wall of silence that had come over them both.

Scarlette slowly followed inside, peering around the surroundings with a quirked brow. She shrugged slightly, soon turning her attention to hte woman Selden was talking to. That was the woman from earlier. She blinked a few times before just shrugging and peering around for somewhere to either place the boy in her arms or for her overall to sit.

As seemed to be becoming a theme today, Rachael entirely failed to notice the others in the room until the man spoke. She let out a startled hiccough at the sound of his voice right by her ear, and leapt to her feet. "Who-who... what..." she managed to stammer, but no more. What did one say to a face and voice as in-control as his was?

Selden, the tall and handsome golden haired bard, looked down at Rachael as he did to most people - not because he happened to be taller than most people, but because he viewed most people as being inferior to himself - as did most wealthy elves or long-eared elves. Especially long-eared elves, whether they were rich or poor.
"Are you enquiring my name when you state 'who'? I'll gladly give my name, little peasant - although there would be no sense to you knowing my name for we aren't really aquiantances[sp?]. You wouldn't even know what an aquiantance[sp?] was either way." Selden stated, his voice carrying clearly through the cool air with a certain melodic quality to it, "Now, dear Elizabeth." he began, turning to the young woman laying confused in her bed, "When you wrote about getting an understudy of your own.. I didn't expect you to get one so soon.. You should really teach the kid some manners, really. And find the kid some clothes - anyone would think you got the kid right off the streets, god forbid."
And Selden continued the rather one-sided conversation with Elizabeth about how he had been and thanking her for the gift that eventually reached him a few weeks ago. It was as if he had completely forgotten about Scarlette and Rachael, or chose to believe they didn't exist whilst he spoke.

Scarlette's left brow quirked to teh man before the woman just shoook her head. She peered down at the boy in her arms and smiled briefly and genuinely, but was trying to be sure that no one else had really seen it. She let out a small and almost silent sigh. She shrugged, slowly moging herselg onto the floor, her legs crossing beneath her as she placed the small boy in her lap. Her slender arms wrapping aroung his small torso as she waited to be recognised again.

Ah-ha! Now, that, at least, was familiar territory. Rachael knew precisely what to do in the face of this kind of scorn. Certainly, she resented it as much as she always had, but somehow it was also solid and comforting to finally know what she was meant to be doing, even for the briefest moment, in this strange world.
Bowing her head, and humbly murmuring "Sir," she removed herself to the other side of the bed, out of his way, and re-arranged the folding of the shirt to find a cooler patch.

Selden continued to converse to Elizabeth for a few minutes before the conversation ended with a few words from Elizabeth. He forwned, stooping down towards her a little. "Pardon?" he queried.
"Quiet down." she repeated, her eyes closed and her face contorted with what must have been a headache, "You're so.. Oblivious sometimes." He voice was rough, hoarse, and reflected her present state of energy levels. Her eyes were soon open once again, focusing upon Rachael at her feet. An understudy... she thought vaguely for a few seconds, thinking back to the letter she remembered receiving - although she didn't think she had ever read it.
Selden was quiet for a while, his back straightenning as he took in her appearance properly for the first time. He warily glanced towards Rachael and onto Scarlette before turning his eyes back to her. "DuVall. You're a follower of the flame. Surely you must hold some counter-magic against this..?" he asked quietly, raising a hand to scratch his jawline.

Scarlette let out a heavy sigh, slowly moving the boy in her lap to resting on the floor beside her. She pushed herself up from the floor and stepped over to the side of the woman's bed. Her crimson eyes beginning to examine her appearance and as to what may be ailing her. She remained silent for a few moments before she spoke. "I cna easily cure you Miss Elizabeth.. As long as you shall let me." She stated simplistically, her crimson eyes staying to the woman in the bed, her slender arms folding over her torso.

Rachael sat back on her heels as Elizabeth replied to the blonde elf. She deliberately did not listen to what was being said -- the elf seemed to be one of those people whose business was their business, and mere peasants should not be able to understand what they were saying. She didn't feel like making life any harder by contravening this expectation.
It was only now as the blonde elf adressed her, and she moved over to the bedside, that she finally saw, and recognised, the other elf, and the boy.
As she crossed to the bed, Rachael's heart crept up into her throat. With the words "I can cure you," she could feel a goofy smile beginning to tug at the corners of her mouth, so she bowed her head, and backed away.

"She has no choice in the matter. mean really, Elizabeth - sometimes you just don't know what's good for you. Even Jaol didn't want you to replace him." Selden stated, "Heal her, DuVall, whilst I go and find a tailor still awake enough to come and fit out her understudy."
Elizabeth frowned at the mention of the new name. Sir Tripwood. That was a painful memory. She was about to call the bard back to tell him that she hadn't even thought about an understudy, but it was too late - the door had already closed behind him.

Scarlette let out a msall sigh as she slowly moved herself to sitting on teh edge of the bed beside the woman. "No worries, Miss Elizabeth, once you're all healed you can slap him or whatever you may wish to do." She reassuered her, putting on a warm smile to the woman before she let her eyes slip closd.
Her slender hands moved over the woman's chest, ruby lips moving and ancient elven words passing by her lips in a slightly dark tone. Her hands soon glowed a firey red, seeming to pull a black sludge from the woman.

Rachael could only watch Scarlette in awe.
This was true to such a great degree that only a one-line post is possible to express it.

Elizabeth, as thought a heavy weight on her chest had been removed, breathed easy after the initial short gasp of fresh air. The dull pain of being burnt on her back remained, although seemed far away and not quite as painful as before. The sweat that still remained on her forehead and on her body, having made the blanket itself damp as well, made her shiver as her body shifted from being overly hot with a fever-symptom to cold.

Scarlette soon balled up all the black sludge that escaped the woman on hte bed and pressed her hands together, her eyse shooting open and being pitch black. She continued to press it together with a bit of difficulty but it soon dispersed and was no longer.
She let out a heavy sigh, panting just a bit before she took in a deep breath of her own. She closed her eyes and reopened with teh normal crimson they were. She peered down at the woman, questioning a gentle "BetteR?"

"Yes.." Elizabeth whispered after a while before hesitantly pushing herself up. She paused halfway there for a few seconds, grimacing from the pain to her back, but she soon controlled it and got herself into a sitting position. With her head bowed and her eyes shut tight she sat there, silent, as if waiting for something to happen.
It was at that point Selden came bustling in followed by a rather short fellow who looked quite worn out. Around his neck was a measuring tape and with him he half dragged a case that supposedly contained the tools of his trade. His dress was smart, his collar sharp and suprisingly white, and he looked rather well fed.
"I couldn't find an armoursmith at this time, so you'll have to go and get that fixed up, Elizabeth. I'll give you some money for it in a moment." the bard stated with a small smile, "You can't say that I don't look after you, dear. Now, Mr Wellshuck. Please fit an appropriate suit of clothing for Elizabeth's understudy."
Elizabeth was once more tempted to say that Rachael wasn't her understudy, but the youngster looked as if she could do with another set of clothes - and she wasn't exactly paying for it.
