It is WAY easier to practice with teh band music to it. U know when u get ready with all the other pple playing their song? well n e thing u forget majicaly comes back to you when u hear your schools song.

OMG! I found my old guard thread on the 3rd page! I guess there isn't a lot to talk about with the season over, but there's still winter guard. biggrin
Nintendo Punk: Yeah, my guard does that, too. It's call "air-flag" or "air-rifle", etc. it's like practicing, without the equipment , for when you don't have room for equipment.

ya we do that sometimes. at one game, we decided not to do the half-time show, so the directors had the band play all our show music in the stands and made the guard stand up and do air flag. we were all smacking eachother in the face and such; it was fun.
i often twirl my pencil during classes, when it's marching season.

Once we were practicing at someone else's high school, and there was no place for the guard to spin, so we st on the floor of the band room, air-equipmenting while the band stood and played.
My brother said we looked like we were doing some kind of tribal dance, all sitting on the floor, cross-legged, moving our hands every which way. xd

Wooh! I did a toss-turn-around w/ my flag! We get to do them in our winter guard show, since our song is "She's got a way" by Billy Joel, so when he goes "I get turned aroooooooooouuuuuund!!!!" we get to do a flag toss-turn-around. Funness. xd

The guards just sitting there on the floor watching us, and suddenly every single one of them closes her eyes and starts waving her hands around in the air! eek I figured out what they were doing, of course, but it did look weird for a second there.

I just got moved up to our school's world guard.. 3 years of experience, and I was originally in the A guard as captain but it's way too overcrowded. For whoever was asking before... Open shows can be 6 minutes and world can be 7. ours right now is 6:13 without the final flag feature. ^^ <- Flanagan High School.. We did ads for sabreline two years ago when we got 3rd in WGI Open. http://sabreline.net/ - the military looking people.

I can do some basic spins and tosses up to a double (hilt and blade), but I don't own my own sabre and won't be spinning one in our winter show, so I can't practice. I absolutely love rifle, though.

Our band director is being a jerk and he's not letting us use rifles! He thinks we're too immature. AM NOT! AM NOT! hmm... We're sticking to regular flags for now. On the bright side, we're learning even more tosses and footwork. Oh well!
