The distant thunder rumbles were the only reply Zippy got to her calls for the lost kits. She frowned and shivered all over. It was cold and she was sopping wet still. The only answer was to run around some more and try to warm up! She leaped and kicked her little legs in all directions then bolted forward again, deeper out in the tall grasses! This time she would avoid puddles if she could.

Antheia moves slowly with the little kit away from the river through the heavy wind and rain. With every flash of lightning and rumble of thunder the kit seemed to flinch and snuggle closer to Antheia as they walked. She comforted her as best she could. She hummed a soft melody which seemed to call her a little and distract from the storm some and the tree was in site and Antheia could see the mother rabbit in the distance as well. She smiled and looked down at the little kit as they were a short distance away now. ”We are almost to your mom little one. No worries, auntie Theia has brought you home.”

They made their way around the fallen and broken tree branches and finally got to the tree and to the mother rabbit. Antheia cleated her throat and hugged the little one once more. She was glad the rain was still coming down as it hid her tears. They were happy tears though, she was so happy to have found the little one and bring her back to her mom! ”I’ve one of your babies, she somehow managed to get swept off in the river but had climbed on a rock. With some luck she was able to save herself though. I didn’t really do anything but walk her back. I’m just glad she is safe!”

Mama had been staring off into the distance, looking nervous. Then the lightning flashed again. She caught sight of one her babies! She bounded forward, glancing at the rabbits with her baby. "Oh, thank you!" She ensured her kit was close to her as she returned nearer the tree.

"Why would you have run off like that! Just think of everything that could have happened!" The lightning flashed again, and her mouth fell open. Another baby??? She hopped forward, almost dumbfounded.

"S-she was on a rock in the river?" Her eye were huge. "Oh, I can't thank you enough." She put a paw on her kit, looking sternly down at her. "I certainly hope you've learned something ..."

The she noticed something then on the grass. "Is a paw print???" She sniffed it. Her third baby. "Oh ... Oh! A clue!" She looked around, hoping there were rabbits who could help her. "Can someone follow them? I can't really bring my kits on a hunt for their sibling ... "

Rabbits are still welcome to join at this stage! This thunderstorm is moving off, with occasional lightning and thunder. The rain is increasing in intensity. Much of the burning tree has been extinguished, but there may still be the odd hot spot.

If your rabbit has approached the tree they may be able to see mama rabbit. If your rabbit would like to interact with her ensure they are in a position where this is possible.

If your rabbit is near her, she will attempt to show you tracks. Your rabbit is able to follow these tracks to look for the missing kit here.

Oh bless this little ones tiny heart, Rain Drop approached and gently wiped a paw across the kits face and nodded. "Yes. Yes we can take you to your mama. She's been so worried about you! And she'll be so very happy to see that you are okay."

Not wanting to lose the kit a second time, Rain gently scooped him up and tucked him into her fur. "Let's get you back to your mom."

Hopping back over to Thunder, Rain Drop gave the buck a warm smile. They had succeeded in rescuing the kit! And she didn't think she'd have been able to do it all alone. "We have a promise to keep." She told the buck, heading back towards where they'd first turn in to the mother rabbit.

"Look, there's your mama! She'll be so happy." Rain Drop made sure to hold on to the kit all the way up to the mother rabbit.

Mama rabbit bounded forward. "Oh, oh thank you!" She scooped her kit towards her, and guided him back to his siblings. The storm seemed to be moving off, and it had been a while since the last flash.

"I think it's time for us to call it a night. Kits?" She kept a careful eye on them as they finally hopped away from the smoldering tree. She glanced back on last time. "Thank you all!"

Thunder had felt immense relief and a bit of wonder that they had managed to track down the lost kit. Well mostly Rain Drop had, he was certain he would have never found the little one on his own. He nodded to her and followed her back to the mother rabbit and the joyful reunion.

"Whew, am I glad to see them reunited." Thunder said with relief to Rain Drop as he slicked some of the rain off his fur. "This was some night!" Sitting back on his haunches, he eyed the sky and knew the storm had passed. Fatigue was replacing his adrenaline rush from the storm and the search, and he agreed with the mother it was time to call it a night. Hesitating, he looked at Rain Drop and half smiled, "Hey uh... it was great working with you Rain Drop, we make a good team. Hopefully I will see you out storm chasing again some time!"
