He hadn't tried his luck again, but instead had lingered back out of range of the muscled tentacles that had been flailing around, knocking hunters around left and right. He was watching it all with a frown, expression thoughtful, at least until the obvious receding of the water from the shore he could catch fleeting glimpses off behind the bulk of the beast. At first it didn't quite register what he was seeing. When it did, his eyes went a little wide and all at once he was moving to reach Ever's side again and wrapping a hand tightly around his arm.
Lagertha was left to return to her totem form, she wouldn't be much use to him in a moment. The horizon was already darker, the wall of water approaching rapidly, and Zeke leaned in to hiss in Ever's ear as he stared up at the impending danger. "Whatever you do, don't let go."
Ever couldn't swim, and even the best of them were about to be tested. This was bad.
It hit, and there was barely time to draw in a breath before they were underwater, turning and tumbling in the currents, crushed down by the rolling of the giant wave as it moved above them. Zeke's fingers were locked around ever's arm, but he could feel his grip slipping...
Kicking furiously he managed to get the both of them to the surface and the first gasped breath burned. Now he could loop an arm around Ever's chest, keep him close, his head above the water, as Zeke swam for the shore.

Well, it would have been nice to say that the tsunami sized wave that came crashing down on them was unexpected, but...
Peyton scrambled for the surface when she had finally stopped tumbling head over heels through the powerful surf, gasping for breath as she broke free into open air. God, it burned, but in that moment she'd take it, or worst. He pain meant she was still alive.
She was still coughing up salt water as she hit the shore though, stumbling a little before she managed to regain her bearings. This wasn't their island, at least she didn't think it was. She hand't explored the whole of Deus, but this coastline was unfamiliar, and the entire place didn't look terribly big. At least not from where they were currently standing.
Pushing her hair out of her face, she looked back out into the water, squinting against the now brighter skies to see if there was anyone out there in need of help.
-------
This wasn't the worst thing that could have happened at the tail end of what had been a challenging fight, but it wasn't anywhere close to ideal, either. Especially for Gretchen. She could swim, losing a leg hadn't stopped her love of the water or her ability to move around in it comfortably.
However, the sort of prosthetic she had attached to her leg was not the sort designed for swimming. It was, truthfully, next to useless. In fact, it proved a rather alarming hindrance when the wave had swept in to carry them all out to sea. She couldn't get enough momentum to get back to the surface, and she really didn't want to jettison the fake leg, it'd leave her very vulnerable, but she was reaching that point of desperation as she floundered beneath the waves.

Kim: 17/50hp Sun Hunter
Kim nodded at Melvin sitting down, stripping off her wet clothing, rather glad she was wearing something under them. She didn't even care if anyone looked or commented. She lay out the wet garments, putting back on her sleeveless jacket again. Always keep the jacket, one may need to put something in the pockets.
She then lay back and closed her eyes a moment, sunning herself. Hey, if you were going to rest why not catch some rays. With others coming onto the island, washing ashore, there was bound to be a moment soon when she would need to get back up.
As she lay there, a poor sodden mini washed up to her and she glanced at it. Poor thing. She pet it as it came near as though looking for comfort. It may not last long but she figured to let it have comfort until it was too late. So there she was, sunning and petting something that came to her on the beach.
She could only hope it didn't bite.
Zoobey How can one tell if we find a mini with a collar? I realize most don't.

There was a time when Ever could swim -- somewhere in there, certainly, his body knew how to do it. The problem was the panic; the rising, frantic thrash as water came up over his head, the memory of water burning in his lungs, all tangled together with what the water meant at this island. This place where giant squid came crawling up onto the shore to attack, where strange infections overtook them, where the sea was full of dangers.
He went under, and the next thing he knew he was on sand, coughing out water frantically. He wouldn't remember fighting against Zeke or letting air explode out of his lungs in a rush or even, really, much of the terror of being under the water. When Ever looked around the strange island he was still pale, but other than that, he mostly just looked confused.

Sherry was moving along the shoreline, looking this way and that, calling out Mark's name, and of course keeping an eye out for anyone else she knew, or anyone in dire need of assistance. Here, the shore was a bit more rocky, a bit more dangerous, and there - that was a person, face down in the water. Oh. OH.
"Mark!" Sherry said deeply concerned by the sight before her. Red in the water was bad, very bad, and Mark looked like he'd had a rough go of it in that wave. She couldn't tell at a cursory glance where he was bleeding from, but from what she could see it was probably his head. Or his torso.
She knelt and reached down, lifting his head out of the pool. "You're still alive, right?" It was a silly question. Sherry was already hauling him out of the pool and trying to check for a pulse while she tried to look at his head for injuries.
Was he even breathing?

All Dawson had wanted to do was take some of his runes and see about tweaking them and applying them to the more crucial portions of restoration for the main HQ. Instead, what he got was a watery welcome two minutes into his walk from the house, wherein he then woke up...on an island. And not the island.
"Sweet baby Jesus," he hissed at the sky. "A man cain' even take a walk without gettin' thrown inta some new bullshit. C'mon now." At least his runes and tools had made it, albeit with now everything soaked and sandy. Good thing he was dressed appropriately?
Still muttering to himself, Dawson picked himself up, made sure his belt of tools was tight, and began to trunch his way towards America who, once again, was making a spectacle. Juuuuust enough to make him chuckle. "Let him breathe a bit 'fore you suffocate him," he advised before his attention was taken elsewhere. "Hold that thought."
And with that, he began to run to the water. Having once been a pool boy, he was used to the water. Maybe not beaches so much, but he was a strong enough swimmer, more so now as a hunter. Dawson grabbed the girl and began to paddle them back towards land with the other, huffing as he tried to keep both their heads above water.
lizbot to find him later if u want!
