"Howdy-ho little fella!" The young trainer wouldn't be greeted by any proper mentor, or even another person, but rather a worryingly-cheerful disembodied voice that echoed out of the shadows. "It's such a pleasure to meetcha! My name's Daydream, and I'll be guiding you here through your introductary battle to Akumu Academy! If you can beat me, congrats! You''ll be fully accepted into the Academy, and be a member of Rocket! Won't that be fun?" He gave a trilling giggle. "Of course, you gotta BEAT me first, and that'll be fun to see! Hmm, but before we get to fighting..."

Two things appeared out of the darkness. The first was a vial of thick, silver liquid, which currently sat right in front of the youth, glowing strangely. The second didn't manifest mysteriously so much as waddle forth: a smiling Trubbish clambered out of the shadows and began to wave at the student-to-be.

"Could you pretty please release your Pokemon? And then have them drink this potion?" Daydream'd chuckle once more, though at what, it wasn't clear. "Don't worry, it's really helpful and full of nutrients! Aaaaaand I'm not going to start the fight unless you have your Pokemon drink it, soooooooooo. Yeah. Go on, little guy!"

((Hello there. I'll be giving the tutorial for the moment. Starting at the beginning...

Akumu Academy runs off a turn-based combat system. The Pokemon with the highest speed stat goes first; in this situation, we have the same speed, so we'll be attacking at the same time. Whoever's hit lands will defend the next turn, and whoever missed will get the chance to attack again. Aim is determined by the roll of 1D20. That ability can be found with the "Post Action" function while posting. I'll roll a die, and you'll roll a die. If I roll higher than you, the attack will land. If I roll lower than you, the attack will miss. Fairly straightforward.

When I attack, you defend. When you attack, I defend. And so on, switching until someone's Pokemon can't fight anymore.

A Pokemon's stats are to be posted at the beginning of the battle, for reference.

I'll cover damage calculation next post. Understanding me so far?))

"... now, where did you hear that little tidbit, hmm?" It was rare that the cheer left Daydream's voice, so Philip should be commended for his feat. There wasn't even an ounce of amusement in his voice as he continued. "I'd rather like a name, if you would be so kind." The Organization's secrets were to be carefully guarded, given exactly what this substance was, and where it had come from... especially the where.

But like a switch had been flipped, he laugh again. "If you can remember! I know knowledge is a weird thing, so just try your hardest!... just like in this battle, huh?" He'd pause, deep in thought for a few seconds. "Anyhoo, since there's nothing else holding us up, let's get this battle party started! Sugar, go give your new friend some sugar!"

The Trubbish squeaked happily, wiggling her trashy stubs around! Fights were great, ESPECIALLY against other aromatic poison types! Without any hesitation, she launched herself forward, swinging wildly in an attempt to Pound the Stunky into submission!

(((Like I said, we'll be attacking at the same time, so this is a bit of an unusual situation. Whoever rolls highest (factoring in Aim Modifier, which we'll get to) will have their attack succeed. Status moves are simple; if you use a status move and your accuracy is the highest, it takes effect.

Damaging moves require math, but the calculation is pretty straight-forward. The formula goes thusly.

[Attacker Accuracy - Defender Accuracy] + [ATK - DEF] = DMG )

Say I roll a 16 for attack, and you roll a 15 for defense (or in this case, if you roll a 15 for your attack). That would make the damage calculation this

(16-15) + (7-7) = 1 DMG!

Now, things would be a little different if the rolls were reversed. See, as a trainer, you're in possession of something called an Aim Modifier, which allows your Pokemon to focus a little harder than others. Your Aim Modifier is 5-- remember that, because it'll help. Now, if you had rolled 16 for attack, and I'd rolled 15 for defense (or in this case, attack)...

((16+5) - 15) +(8-8 ) = 6 DMG!

Makes sense so far?))

[[Aaaaaand forgot to roll. Good time to say this-- if you forget to post, like I just did, don't worry. Just quote your original post and roll. Don't delete your post; given the nature of this guild, it can be construed as cheating, and doing it enough is a bannable offense.]]

[[Haze effective! All stat changes reset.]]

Silence, and then a slight giggle as the Trubbish missed, flailing useless into the darkness. "Interesting choice, kiddo!" he remarked pleasantly as the haze settled on the field, cleansing it before dissipating. "Miiiighta jumped the gun a bit though, dontcha think? Buuuuut don't let me tell you how to battle, ya cute little chatterbox! I betcha'll do it!" Daydream would burst into another giggling fit. "Anyway, it's my turn again, so Pound him, Sugar!"

The Trubbish coughed a bit, clearly surprised by the Stunky's chose of actions. A herbivore type, perhaps? She shook herself off, not flustered even a bit. Instead, she'd give the creature a friendly wink and leap at him once more, swinging her squishy arms wildly.

((It isn't possible. If it was, we would do so. Go ahead and try to edit, say, one of your OCC posts to have a roll, and tell me how that works out for you.

As your move succeeded when mine did not, it's your turn to defend.

On the topic of taking damage-- see, doing damage in this guild doesn't stop at 0. If a Pokemon takes damage, and it goes below -7, the Pokemon will die. The potion your Pokemon imbibed will rescue your starter from death, but only once, and it won't last forever, so be careful. There are some events and items that can revive the dead, but they're very rare, so don't count on them.))

"Nice hit!" Daydream remarked cheerfully. "Hmm, so that means... my turn to dodge! Sugar, go hide!"

The Trubbish waddled back into the darkness, doing her best to blend in and keep away from the Stunky.

((Since you've decided to bring it up, let's go to counter attacks. Counters can be quite dangerous; while you succeeded this time, if you had failed, you would have taken x2 damage from the failure. Furthermore, using counters consecutively results in you taking a -2 damage penalty each time you use it. We have had people kill their starters by countering, so consider this your main warning.

As you can see, Counter attack damage uses half of you AM, rounded down.

PP is not used at the moment; we'll point out when you need to start deducting it.))

[[[MISS]]

"Swing and a miss!" trilled Daydream like a particularly obnoxious bird. Indeed, careful planning hadn't amounted to much; the Trubbish avoided the hit with a surprising amount of grace for a walking gag of garbage. ""Let's keep going, shall we? Hmmm... let's see if you can land it this time, Sugar-- Pound!"

/Gotcha!/ The Trubbish wasn't quite as perky as the spirit guiding her, but she was still pretty excited to be here and fighting another Poison-type. She'd hop a few feet forward, intending to combine a bounce and a Pound!

((At the moment, you don't have any way of healing your Pokemon. When you do get one, if you intend to use a healing item, you'll need to wait until your attack turn. Using an item effectively "takes the place of" your attack turn, so you couldn't use Pursuit AND give your Stunky a Potion at the same time.

Held items like berries and in-game items must be given to the Pokemon before battle starts.))

[[[(12-11)+[7-7] = 1 DMG! Stunky is at 14 HP!]]

"That was just a love tap, Sugar!" Daydream faux-grumbled, clearly saddened by the lack of bloodshed. He sighed before giggling once more. "Ah well! Go hide again!"

The Trubbish wouldn't do much but chirp and nod, slinking into the shadows from whence she'd arrived.

((Generally, I ask students not to counter in their first battle. That first time was an exception, given you hadn't let me explain it first. You seem to understand it relatively well, and this battle is taking a bit of time, so go ahead, but if you had used the counter attack (given you'd countered your last turn), your Pokemon would have taken the -2 fatigue penalty. Just a reminder.

On an RP basis: Pokemon are capable of communicating between each other, and can use their own forms of speech. Humans cannot understand Pokemon, but Pokemon can understand humans. There will be some exceptions of Pokemon understand humans and things may change for your character in the future, but on average, that's how it goes.))

Stunky gains 40 EXP!

Daydream gave a low whistle as the Trubbish crumbled to the ground like a shoddily-made paper airplane. "Well, there we go, then!" he remarked happily. "That's that! Well done, little buddy! You're an official student of Akumu Academy, and therefore a member of the Organization! Congratulations!" Daydream's cheer was unstoppable. "Now, what's next on your agenda, friendo? Well, I suggest you go check out the Auditorium; it should give you a good idea of where to go from here." He gave one last chuckle as the Trubbish faded out of sight. "And good luck out there~"

Lion of the Lord

[[Capturing a Pokemon requires a Pokeball. Pokeballs (along with healing items) can be both PokeMart along with a few other items. It doesn't have everything, of course; berries, held items, stones ,and other such things will be available for purchase if you can find them and if you have the gold. Catching a Pokemon is pretty simple; you throw it, and you roll a d20. If you roll higher than the Pokemon's capture rate, you catch the Pokemon. Ask your mod if you want to know what is the capture rate of the Pokemon your facing.

Let me see if I can answer your question. As stated, counter attacks can be done during your defense turn; just attack instead of defending. There are two main risks to counter attacks. The first is that, if you fail your counter, you take two times the damage you would have normally. The second is the fatigue damage. If you use a counter multiple ties in a row, you take 2 DMG. So say you counter attacked, attacked, and then counter attack again-- if you land your second counter attack, you'll take 2 damage. If you do something like this-- counter attack, attack, defend, attack, counter attack-- you won't take the 2 DMG. Fatigue doesn't kick in if you miss the second consecutive counter; at that point, you'll have the x2 failure penalty to worry about. Yo

Running's pretty straightforward. Have your character run, and roll a d20. Hopefully, the Pokemon won't give chase... and if they do, hope you've outrolled them.

Your trainer can take damage during missions. If you take 5 significant injuries, you can actually faint, get knocked out of a mission, and have to start again.

And that should be it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask mods, or check out the Information Center if you don't feel like waiting.

EDIT: Oh, and forgot to mention this-- when you're leaving a place/thread, make sure to denote it by putting something akin to - Exiting to Place - at the bottom of your leaving post.]
