He smiled back to her, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
"You're welcome," he said with a little nod. He didn't think he was really the one who deserved the gratitude here, but he thought he understood it. "Thank you too, for everything."

Over an hour into the movie and all serious conversation fell by the wayside as Misha every so often buried a giggle in Brian's shoulder. She had seen the movie many times but it still made her grin. She freely admitted that the plot itself was basic and more than a little silly but that pretty much described all rom-coms ever. Hearing Brian chuckle just made her smile more, too. He had a great laugh and, sitting on his lap still as she was, she leaned into his chest and could feel each low reaction to the movie. As the two characters hit on their faux-lover plot, Misha suddenly giggled again. She lifted a hand and waved it at the television as she turned to grin at Brian. "See what happens when people get desperate to prove something? Though, you now, I guess you could do worse than having a French-speaking Kevin Kline as your fake boyfriend. His accent is actually pretty good."

Brian was just as pleased with the film. It was sort of movie-stock, fine, but most rom-coms were and he had come into this prepared. He was more than able to find amusement in silly quips and the like, and with Misha giggling in his lap it was all the more simple.
"Hey, you never said we'd be trying to prove anything. Just allay some concerns," he teased. He couldn't imagine something like that happening in real life but it made for wonderfully reactive dialogue. "Besides, I'm not a big fan of his mustache."

Misha squirmed atop his lap until she could twist to face him. She studied his face with mock solemnity. Then she nodded gravely. "I don't think you'd look good with a mustache, Handsome," she agreed. "To be honest, unless you grew out your hair, too... It might range on the porn-y side of things."

He started laughing because she was talking about mustaches, laughed harder when he began imagining himself with said mustache, and then again when imagining himself with said mustache in a terrible porno. It was not pretty, but that was half the fun. After a few moments he was just leaning his head on Misha's, laughing better than he'd laughed in a long time. It was a silly sort of thing, but he had needed it desperately.

His laughter delighted her and Misha began giggling as well. The laughter built and built until they were both nearly helpless with it. Misha threw her arms around his neck and leaned into him. She tried to muffle her amusement against the side of his neck but only met with the barest of success. Her breathy giggles teased his skin.

Brian wrapped his arms around her and held her close, rocking from side to side. When his laughter had finally dissolved to a more reasonable patter, and then chuckled punctuated by actual breaths, he kissed her temple and pulled back.
"Want another?" He nodded toward the table. Another beer, that. He chuckled again. Ah, thank god for Misha.

"Mmm, sure." Misha drew back and grinned at him, ear to ear. Her grey eyes sparkled with amusement and warmth. She adored laughing with him. Hearing him laugh filled her with warmth and she liked that. Of course, him getting her another drink meant she would have to leave his lap. Still, she grinned again and leaned in to kiss his nose. "I guess I better get up," she sighed.

"I think you might be right." He released Misha entirely and leaned back, waiting for her to scoot over before he stood and headed for the fridge. He had some harder stuff somewhere in here, but he didn't want to go too overboard. He got handsy when he was drunk, and as fun as Halloween had been he didn't want to mess up anything with Misha. He just needed some company tonight.
With a bottle in each hand he came back and popped Misha's open for her before setting his down. He also felt the need to go for more pizza, although how an appetite could retreat so quickly and then rush back was beyond him. He was watching the movie as he got out a few slices and popped open his own beer, even considering the subject matter. He was watching it with Misha, after all, and she seemed to rather like it.
"How many times have you seen this one?" he asked during a musical lull in dialogue.

Misha accepted the bottle handed to her with a wink. Then she tipped it towards him in a sort of casual salute. "Oh, you know," she drawled. "A few times. Like... Maybe a dozen or so? I don't know." She chuckled and lifted one shoulder in a shrug. "It's not a deep movie so I can have it as background noise or I can pay attention. Whichever I like." She studied him for a moment. "You're enjoying it, right?"

He saluted her back with his own bottle and settled back into the couch to eat and watch the movie-- and Misha. It struck him that this was the first time she'd been out of his lap nearly all night.
"A dozen isn't 'a few,'" he teased, laughed, and nodded. "Yeah, it's not bad. I mean, they all sort of follow the same formula, but I'm not really a plot snob." He'd watch a car chase with the same interest. Besides, he had a soft spot for things he saw other people enjoying. He smiled to her.

"Are you sure?" Misha pouted, then shrugged again and a smile lit her face once more. She slid to the edge of the couch and retrieved another slice of pizza for herself. "So now that we've determined that you'll watch just about anything other than war movies... What are your favorite things to watch?" Her eyes never left his face as she took a healthy bite of her pizza.

Brian shrugged. He really wasn't sure he had a favorite, he just knew that he had a least-favorite.
"Like you said, I'll watch pretty much anything. I don't really follow any series and will jump in on something halfway through. Drama, maybe. Cops usually can't handle the whole TV law-enforcement drama thing but I don't mind it. It probably couldn't be a lot less realistic, but I don't mind it. How about you? You brought a pretty big spread."

Misha thought over his question a bit as she chewed and swallowed. Then she shook her head a bit. It was less a gesture of refusal and more an indication of vagueness. "I will pretty much watch anything if I'm in the mood," she answered. "It really is all about the mood. The company, too, I guess." She laughed softly. "Like I never watch horror movies alone. I jump too much."

"So your high school sweetheart brought you to a lot of them?" Brian teased. The whole thing about scaring a woman so she'd cling to you was a real thing, and teenagers learned it young. The snaking-an-arm-around-the-back thing was pretty difficult and a potential date-breaker. Horror movies, though? The guy got none of the flak. He'd never done anything like that himself. He was more of the observe-and-please sort. Candace hadn't liked horror.
"I've ended up watching some really terrible s**t on television. It just doesn't bother me, unless the acting's really bad. People who are meant to be saying yes and shake their heads and things. When the emotions doesn't reach their eyes. Normal people who are meant to be lying have no problem with it." He paused and plucked a pepper off of his pizza to pop into his mouth. "Even then I just think it's funny. Mm, and reality TV. If it's not on Food Network I'm usually not interested, and even then..."
