Birds are the closest relative to the crocodilian species. They share a common genome dating back 240 million years ago to a common ancestor. Crocodilians, pterosaurs, birds and dinosaurs are all part of a group called archosaurs. Modern day crocodiles are more closely related to birds than to most other reptiles.

What's so interesting about that?
Poposaurids were large, meat eating archosaurs. They appeared to be large crocodiles that walked on their back legs. They were between 2.5 to 5 meters long. They were found mostly in North and South America.

What's so interesting about that? The aetosaurs served an important role for the abundant of their armoured plates found in geographic wide locations, meaning they actually moved a lot. The presence of a particular aetosaur can be accurately dated at the site they are found in. The Rauisuchia role was one of the top predators until going into extinction during the Triassic-Jurrassic age. While the Sphenosuchians lived throughout the middle of the Jurrasic period serving as main predator before the evolution of large theropod dinosaurs.

What's so interesting about that?
Pigment colors are found in both animals and plants. The colorization pigments in birds come from three differet groups. Those groups are carotenoids, melanis, and phorphyrines. Short summary the carotenoids color is caused by the plant food they eat, melanis color occurs in tiny granuels of color of both skin and feather, lastly the phophryines colors are produced by amino acids. As for the structure colors are produced as light is refracted by the proteins in the feather. For example iridescent feathers of the throat of a humming bird. It is possible to determine a color from a pigment of a fossil because the melanosomes that have been found in the fossils.

What's so interesting about that?
Honestly I knew next to nothing about dinosaurs besides a select few. So it was interesting learning about crocodile ancestry and the different evolves over the years. I can say that the rauisuchians are quite the unique looking things I've ever see with those gait like build. I also really didn't know that bird feathers had two type of color types like pigment and structure. I honestly did not know that birds could get their pigment color because of the plants that they eat. It was also pretty cool to learn about bird fossils and scientists able to extract pigment from them because of the melanosomes they can learn about the possibility of their color.
This was quite a interesting contest and I enjoyed the facts!
