Wound
Chel continued to curl under the acidity of Gretchen's words. She was clearly angry, clearly passionate, but unfortunately for her she also appeared clearly out of her mind to Chel.
"I'm sorry," she murmured, not sure what to say in this kind of situation. She debated calling for Jack; a crazy person in her vicinity while she was still in recovery didn't seem like a good combination.

Rhys ignored the tone and just kind of snorted at the questions. "I'm killin' time, chill," he muttered before lifting a hand to let the topic go.
"Just say pass if you don't wanna answer," the brunette went on, "or throw some questions at me or somethin'. Or kick me out. Your call." And then, as if there'd been no weird interruption he went back to asking questions.
"Numbers?" He glanced over with a cheeky grin, wondering if she'd actually answer or pass or kick his a**.

The Last Midnight
("Don't stop," she whispers softly, almost encouragingly so.)
Jack continued to stroke her arm, all but helpless save for little motions like that. He didn't want to talk about these demons, he wanted to yank them out into the open light and then execute them. He didn't want to keep holding this limpid version of Chel until she could give something just as impassioned back, he wanted to kiss her hair in bed and drag his nails down her back and pull her into his side more and more until they occupied the same space. But everything was holding him back--all eggshells and caution and support through something that he couldn't bring himself to fault her for, even though he could and probably should.
Love was ******** stupid sometimes.
"Let's focus on the good," he said after a moment. It wasn't his natural inclination to, but circumstances changed his outlook. Chel was moving more, had a little more energy. Small steps. "You're going to get out of here tomorrow, I read?"

Figures. He laughed quietly.
"Take a guess."

The Last Midnight
"Yeah," she said quietly. Not for her health status, but because they needed the room for a group of hunters that had returned from a rescue mission in Delta. She knew they were angry at her for taking up space. Her neck wasn't even fully healed, but she was functional and they were deeming that enough.
And once she was out there ... That was where the looks, the wariness, the fear began. A bracelet and tiger striped skin weren't well loved.
"Can you do me a favor?"

"I ... can't breathe well ... and he wants me t'guess ..." As if to emphasize her point, she coughed into her sleeve.
"Bra size? You know ... that got letters too ... right?" She laughed to herself for a moment and said, "Ah, you prolly ... never seen one, huh?"

Her answer had him laughing again, though he tried to be quiet about it. The cough was met with a shrug and his grin stayed, even after her joke.
It was a truth that he never admitted to anyone, and he wasn't about to start now. And besides, the last time he asked a girl this question he got a right punch to the gut, so a joke was harmless.
"That's one of 'em I'm guessing, but without the letter," he said, "and usually attached to two other numbers."

The Last Midnight
"There's a girl ... she was really upset about ... me not knowing her." She looked pensive for a moment. Just because she didn't know the girl didn't mean she wanted the girl to suffer for it. "Don't remember her name, but she had long brown hair and a fake leg."
She moved to detach from him; the comfort was appreciated and would be missed, but she was still sweaty and disgusting from sickness. It wasn't a sensation she thought Jack was enjoying. "C'you talk to her? Make sure she's okay?"

WoundShe didn't know what to do. Gretchen fell quiet at the apology, expression falling into defeat as she looked down at the other girl. Chel didn't remember her. Something had happened, and she couldn't remember her. There was a moment where the trainee just stood there, trying to come up with something to say and finally just shaking her head as she brought her hands up to press the heels of her palms against her eyes. "Sorry." It wasn't Chelsea's fault. "I'm sorry." It was just frustrating. Hurt. The hands fell and she stepped back, looking sad as she started for the exit.

"Bust-waist-hips, c'mon," he finally muttered with a wave. She sounded like she was getting a little more winded, so maybe he overstayed his welcome already.
"Forget it, though," he groaned quietly as he got back to his feet, dusting himself off. "So how much longer you gonna be stuck here?"

"Gretchen," he mused. It wasn't exactly hard to figure out who it was. "Yeah, I'll find her." At some point. Probably after several long a** nights of trying to find sleep, a chance that seemed to dwindle more and more these days. It was strange sleeping alone. He'd have to impress upon her against distressing Chel like that, though. It wasn't worded as such, but though the two were friends, Jack couldn't have her adding more to their pile, good intentions or not. Chel was recovering from enough. "It's late. I should let you get some sleep." Something popped as he got up; he hadn't realized how settled in place he'd been. "I come in early tomorrow, so I'll be here when they discharge you," he assured her.

Chel had to wonder what knowing a hip size would do. Was he some kind of weirdo that got off to numbers? Chel would never put another down for the way they got turned on, she supposed ...
"Dunno," she said quietly. She could tell he was switching the tone of the conversation to more boring, more real conversation topics. Harder ones.
