"Get mushy," she ordered him quietly, flattening her palm on his chest and pushing. She crawled over him as per her catwoman persona, lowering him with a false sense of confidence. She was shaking the ice off her person, loosing the noose from her father and letting that spark set her on fire.
She ran a thumb along his lopsided smile, one that mirrored her own. The fingers trailed down to his scars and then across his veins. Nothing but desire and mirthful affection in her actions, despite the conniving eyes. "Go on."

There was a slight pause because he hadn't expected her to challenge it, and because he had to suss out if Chel was going to try pinning him down. "Someone's being bossy today," he noted with amusement. When it was clear they were oozing, Jack braced himself for his own sentimentality and drew upon that one stubborn part of himself that never quite died.
He brought his legs up on either side of her, knees bent and caging, and cupped her jaw. "I love you," he declared softly, looking her in the eyes. "I love being with you and everything that entails, good and bad. I love our inside jokes and banter and the fact that I feel comfortable enough to talk to you about anything at any time. I love you in every manner of dress and undress and the particulars of your curves and scars, and I have the photos to prove it. I'm in love," he continued with a spreading grin, fingers curling so his knuckles could brush her cheek, "with that conniving look in your eyes right now that tells me you'll never let me live this down, and the wicked curve of that smile, and the way your lips shape around my name. I'm in love with the disconnect that defines us when we start to blur, because it's so easy to lose myself in you and forget. But most of all, I'm in love with the fact that if you really want something, you try your damnedest to do it; you don't give up if it matters. For all the s**t you've had to deal with in your life, I really do believe you've come out shining and on top, and I need you to know I'm proud of you."
Dropping a hand to prop himself up just a little bit longer, he let their heads bump against and spoke against her lips. "I love the way you make me feel, and I hope I make you feel half as good, because even after all that I still can't describe it in enough words. That mushy enough for you yet, darlin'?" Jack asked in a murmur.

The moment he opens his mouth she regrets it. Jack has the ability to be her Prince Charming but she forgot to tell him that she will never be able to accept the words without waiting for but or except. But she does her best not to freeze, and she's proud to say that she smiles lightly and warms herself against Jack's prose, blazes her own light because of him.
Partway through she opened her mouth to retort, to respond, to something, but he kept going and when he said proud she felt the corner of her eyes water. She hadn't realized how long she'd been waiting for someone to say that to her. To acknowledge the work she'd done and not only that but love her for it. Chris can be brushed aside with the excuse "he's family, he has to say that," but Jack is actively making the choice to say as much on his own.
Her arms wrapped around his neck and her weight pushed into him enough to turn his flirtatious touch of their heads into a hug filled with affection and warmth and home. She wasn't worried about crashing into the bed, because she knows where Jack's hands will land and she knows they're there to support her. It wasn't a kiss or a caress it was an utter lack of sexuality that Chel so seldomly possessed.
"I love you too!" She still wouldn't say the words in public and it would always be a struggle, but right now was Jack in private being surrounded by a flurry of affection. She pressed her nose into the side of his head. "Ohhh Jack." She tightens what already seems like a fatal squeeze and laughs so confusedly that the sound breaks.
There's something excited in her voice as she babbles, like she's been given permission to be fully herself for a short time. "Listen you're- you're a part of me." It's easier to say without him looking at her so lovingly. "I can't do nothin' without thinkin' 'bout you, I'm ********' serious. You ... you ... I don't know. I can't say nice s**t like you, but I know what I feel is real. God I- I wish I could tell you all the parts of you I love but ******** we'd be here all day. Yer hurtin' too, but I'm gonna do my best to keep those parts safe too, y'hear?" She'd never been as good with words as Jack, but she can wiggle him in her arms and say, "You're mine, mine, mine. All of you an' I'm never gonna give you up for nothin'." Now she's really got water in her eyes, because she has never had anything choose to be hers. Jack has stayed, but more importantly she feels for the first time that Jack will always stay by his choice. Deus will rip him from her and she knows that, but it's more than that.
For once there isn't a quick "Sorry ________" that follows. And Stormy? certainly pushes to the front of her mind (not in small part thanks to Tenebrae), but she allows herself (Chel allows herself) to let someone love her without a "but" attached to it.
She sighed and let go of her death squeeze, moving out enough to where she could see him. It hadn't been as scary to say these things. "I think-" And she sputters over this thought. "I think maybe I was made fer you." A piece of hair was tucked behind her ear sheepishly. "They call it soulmate, yeah? Think it's that."

It's just like in the tub, this easy feeling of sinking and warmth and something like champagne bubbles rising up in his chest at her every word. He'd forgotten what it was like to adore someone instead of something, to be able to not just look at the artwork but to hold it and hear it say mine mine mine. She squeezed him tight, but it was the easiest he had breathed in a very long time.
(It frightens him to think of how vulnerable he is to the sinkhole, how willingly he lets it pull him in after years of avoiding it. He isn't kidding when he says it isn't difficult at all to lose himself in something, be it a job or a feeling or a person, and that why he's always held himself so stiffly, why he's always doing something else instead of standing still. In this moment there is a satisfaction of having heart and mind and body. One day, maybe he will claim the soul as well. Mine mine mine.)
Between the barrage of affection and the blubbering noises from Owain in his head, he can't help but start laughing; for once, it sounds orange as well. "Big guy's happy," Jack explained, letting Chel's imagination conjure up the party his partner was having. "Pretty sure he was yours a long time ago, the traitor." Maybe it would drown out whatever nonsense Tenebrae was undoubtedly feeding her.
His hands, reliable as they were in catching her when they had fallen, fell into the familiar motions of inching just under her shirt, enough to brush against her back. Her eyes were watering, but he didn't address them in case they made Chel feel self-conscious. "Maybe," he said, going on with a little grin, "I prefer the men-as-gods route myself. We made these choices, not some genius fairy. This is our happiness."

"We're really in love, huh?" she posed to him, both confused and assured by the question she asked, almost like the thought had occurred to her until now (mostly because it hadn't). "I mean really, like. ********. I never liked anybody half as much as I like you." It seemed important to establish that for as much Chel loved Jack, she really did like him too. "You and Owain both."
She took one of his hands and very seriously said, "Not now, but later-" Nothing was going to move her now. "-Marry me, alright?" Half thoughtful, half Chel spontaneity. "We'll run to Vegas and get that dumb paper."
Chel fully expected to be shot down as per their banter, but there was an optimism in her smile that said it wouldn't really make a difference either way. A piece of paper was just to show off to her friends, hang on her wall, a material object with which she could say look how much I love him. Having it wouldn't change the way she felt, and not having it wouldn't take those feelings away. Weddings clearly didn't hold as much weight to her as they should have; what mattered was our happiness.

"I guess we are, aren't we. How the ******** did that happen, huh?" he asked with a little chuckle. It was half in jest and half serious. Months later and Jack still hadn't quite broke down where in the timeline he had decided this was a good idea.
Owain beamed. < The very best. >
The marriage proposal didn't hit him as hard as it might have. Maybe he was a little too deep in the love dunk state, or maybe it simply felt like a natural topic to hit on after their declarations—like a script reaching for the climax in a movie. Either way, he considered it for a few moments before scoffing, the noise seeming more lighthearted in lieu of his current mood. It was a little surreal: him joking, Chel being serious.
"What, no big ceremony to throw it in their faces?" Jack asked. "Can hunters open registries?" He highly doubted it when married couples were considered liabilities, but he wanted to humor her. "We'd get a lot of free s**t that way."

"I don't want people there," she said with a frown. "Free stuff is great, but people need to mind their own damn business."
She gave him a suspicious look. "Unless yer sayin' you want one."
A secondary thought dawned on her and she gasped, sitting up straight and hovering over him with a mocking tone. There was even an accusing finger pointing at him. "You want to ********' marry me~"

Jack made a face. "A piece of paper wouldn't change anything except your last name. Besides." He made his own accusation finger pointing and tapped her collar bone. "You'd have to wear a bigass wedding dress and get fancy."

Surprised, Jack continued with feigned sternness, "You'd also have to wear nice heels, perfect make up, gorgeous hair, probably have a longass elegant train behind you, get a veil, stand for several hours, remember your vows and get extremely mushy on me, and you have to kiss me like you mean it in public." As having even one other person in the audience meant it wasn't completely private. "All without getting bored or fidgety."

"Do the people in Vegas really give that big a s**t, or are you just tellin' me you want somethin' big." Her grin was less worried than it was amused. Perhaps Jack had some romantic desires of his own buried under his batman edginess.
She sighed, less like a woe and more like a grocery list. Something about it was exciting. "I'll wear anything, standin' ain't hard I'm a sun I got calves of a minotaur." She even lifted up her leg to show them. "Can't promise I'll remember 'em but I'll just make it up. Kissin' ain't never been my problem, Beanstalk." There may have been an accusing look at him.
A hand went to her chin as she thought about mushy. Bored and fidgety weren't a problem; she could curb it (she mostly did it to annoy people anyways). Mushy though ...
"I think I could do it for Chel Hawthorn. F'not, you can call the whole thing off and we can bang in the church anyways." That was much more Chel.

He looked ready to say something, thought better of it, and gave her a light shove. "Why are we even discussing this right now? Later," Jack promised, and then he smirked. "Right now I just want to soulfully look into your eyes and hear more reasons why you like me before having a long session of tender, loving sex." It was both a joke and a suggestion. "Foreplay includes some sweet serenading from Barbara," he added like it was an enticement, wiggling his brows.

"Later never comes with you," she teased, settling back into his side but not taking her eyes off of him.
She hooked a leg over his hip in a lazy way and said, "Tender ain't the word I'd use." Her grin was lecherous and her eyes matched. "But long and lovin's a pretty good place t'start."
Her eyes caught her phone behind him and it reminded her or something. "What's yer little file say 'bout me now?"

He glanced back. "Those things? I haven't updated them in months. Yours wouldn't matter now anyway." He ran a hand up her leg and rested on her thigh. "I do those for people I consider only as assets and tools."

"Yeah?" Chel was surprised to hear that Jack hadn't kept up with it. Too busy or was he becoming less meticulous? It was something she chalked away.
Her hand rested on his neck and wove into the hair on the back of his head. "M'sure I could help now that I got my fingers in everyone's pie." She wasn't sure how much she'd really be able to access, but it was something.
She sat for a moment in quiet with him marveling his every feature and letting her brain catch up to the moment. "How 'bout we skip the mistress and go straight to you bein' part of me?" She laughed something low into his lips before adding, "Babe."
