R’soua wriggled out of B’ren’s grip just in time to see the bronze led off of the hatching sands and whooped, her deep voice echoing across the sands. Sure, she didn’t know the guy well, but that the hatchling hadn’t betweened was fantastic!

“Two more bronzes! Do you see that? Three sharding bronzes!” she pronounced with delight, grabbing Ja’line and planting a kiss on whatever part of her face she could reach. “Three!”

===

M’ere was not sure how to take that, and thus kept her silence. She liked Re’ka, she liked her a lot… but what she wanted from Re’ka wasn’t what Re’ka wanted to give and sometimes that was sore, but it was always better to be her friend then not to be.

She took a bite of her redfruit, swallowed, and cheerfully redirected. “There’s three, then. I bet C’tis is singing right now - he could run for weyrleader after this, by the egg!"

B’ren laughed turning and blinked as R’soua jumped Ja’line and suddenly planted a kiss on her. Ooh.. welp, he hadn’t know that. He blinked, bemused and suddenly realized he was staring and coughed looking back at the hatching. What did you know, there really was three bronzes out there.

Apparently now satisfied with herself again Debonair got to her feet, pointedly turned her back on the healers' table, and sauntered off as though nothing had happened. She did not, however, saunter very far.

Giving a little purr she wound her sleek frame around in front of Jemi and Cai, and fixed the former with a bright blue eyed stare.

Ok, breathe.

There's one more dragon -- the polite brown. Maybe he's yours. Maybe he's yours.

Most of the other candidates have bonded to their partners already, so surely he is.

But what if he isn't?! What if it was all some cruel, ironic twist of fate.

That'd be just what she deserved, she thought, after what had gone down that day.

Qyprenna tried to hide the fact that she was feeling very much overwhelmed by this point. Most candidates had found their dragons, and yet there she was, standing there awkwardly. Visibly shaking, the young woman wrapped her arms around herself in a hug in a sorry attempt to hide that fact. This day had been a crazy whirlwind, and she just wanted something to go well for her in the end.

That's all she wanted.

Bereck took the broken piece from Nash with a grunt and looked down at it. The polished ruddy wood was splintered, revealing a paler core. The silver head was slightly scratched. The healer's lips pursed into a flat, deliberately emotionless line. He could get it fixed, he reminded himself, and it would still be the same cane and even if he couldn't it was foolish to be so sentimental over an object even if it was a present.

"Eh?" Nash had just said something, Bereck had to play it over in his head again. "Oh, no. No thank you." He shook his head. "Once the hatchlings clear out I will have Aorta and Vena fetch one to me, it will be faster. After that we need to head directly to the infirmary to meet that candidate and sort out her face."

Three bronzes! Three! Only two browns, that was a bit on the low size, but three bronzes was pretty incredible and would certainly shut up any critics of the flight for good. C'tis grinned like something that lived in cold dark waters and folded his arms over his chest as he observed the last few dragons wander over to their new bondmates, and the lone brown straggler still making his ungainly way across the sand.

Jemi paused at the vividly color green finished her grooming and started towards her, Cai, and the newly dubbed Laufeth and twirled around them like a sleek purring cat, and she was purring, and a sense of a grin brushed her mind.

She had just impressed? She had just impressed and not much after Cai and they were going to be riders! “Lanceth, her name is Lanceth and she is perfect and I might have to apologize to the master healer and” she became derailed as Lanceth pressed her head under a hand, skin warm and real and slightly sticky.

She said and twined around legs and pressed slightly, causing Jemi to slightly move forward.

Ja'line was not normally the type for embarrassed blushing. Not in the least, but when she turned her head to see why R'soua grabbed her, she was given a very good reason to. Caught by surprise, it didn't even occur to pull away as R'soua's mouth met hers until the other woman was ready to release her. She glanced around in shock and caught B'ren staring. Ja'line punched him in the shoulder. "Get your head out of the latrines!" She muttered.

Yes she was excited. Not on the same level as R'soua but she cheered to cover any flustered feelings she might have over what just happened.

~..........~

Cai blinked and their face broke out into a rare wide smile. Jemi was there once again, beside them with... well... that dragon in tow. She had Impressed though! Cai cast a glance around for Wen. They hadn't been able to find him in the crowd of candidates all hatching though. They'd have to catch up once the last dragon Impressed. Cai would worry later on what happens to them if he doesn't. Cai needed him as much as they needed Jemi and now, Laufeth.

Cai let Jemi babble as they reached the tables. "I'm glad you're here with me." They added softly before they got too close for others to hear.

Laufeth kept his silence, watching his rider and Jemi and gauging their relationship for himself. It would be useful he supposed to have this Jemi on their side though what he would do with her dragon, Lanceth, he would need to think on. He probed Cai's mind, seeking those deeper places they hid their own thoughts. There would be no secrets between them.

There was now but one unbonded dragon on the Sands, the To Me brown, and he had just come to a halt just in front of the candidates. There were some twenty four youngsters still unbonded and he treated each of them to an extremely serious look. Having studied each of them intently he turned his gaze back onto one girl in particular, one who was shaking.

'Don't dawdle!'

Try as she might to heed her newfound dragon's words, she wasn't going to be able to do it. When the brown came over to her and gazed at her, it seemed to take the last bit of energy out of her, and her knees buckled. Qyprenna crumpled into the sands in a fit of shaking and sobs, both happy and overwhelmed. This day was a crazy ordeal. She got injured, dragons impressed left and right, and there was only one dragon left by the time it was all done.

Her dragon.

Slowly, she picked herself up, brushing the particles of sand from her uniform. Tears streamed from her good eye, and she did her best to wipe those away, as they would probably be more annoying to the healers than anything else. 'Sorry,' she murmured to Catoth in his head, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm just so, so happy."

This last bit came out verbally, as she felt it was something that needed to be said aloud. Still shaking some, Qyprenna extended a hand out to brush along the brown gingerly, and she then motioned for him to follow her.

"Come on, we've got to make a stop at the healers. Then I can feed you after. You deserve a nice, delicious meal!"

'I look forward to it, dear one.'

This was going to be the start of a glorious friendship.

“Do you think we scandalised some holders?” R’soua said cheerfully, leaning back in her seat - she was still a level up above the other two, and grinning like a cheshire cat. They probably had, if any were bothering to look. The tall young woman was more then delighted with today’s outcome… and not unhappy to spread that around - it had been a toss-up between Ja’line and B’ren, and it was only luck that chose between them. “Is that all of them, then?”

She was about to suggest that they broke out the wine early - or at least, attempted to wheedle the kitchens into it.

"Probably and I think so." B'ren turned back to the sands, looking for any sort of unhatched eggs or dawdling hatching. "The little brown is the last. More bronzes then browns, that a bit unexpected." Still, change was in full force and they were in the middle of it all.

---------------------
"Would have had Harper, but she wouldn't managed by herself." Speaking of which, with the last dragon properly bonded, Nash called in his flit. The green blinked between and back, smooth as a ghost in curling about her bond partners shoulder.

"Going to be fun, specially with a hatching to work about." She had impressed and they were going to have all sorts of fun making sure that eye worked correctly after that green slashed her.

Ja'line snorted. "I sure hope so! " She tilted her head back towards R'soua. "Looks like it. With that brown Impressed. Do you think they'd hatched early enough we might get a feast tonight?" She shifted forward and rose to her feet, turning and stretching her arms above her head. "I wouldn't mind a half day with this festive mood in the air!"

“I call it a half day” R’soua said cheerfully, clapping her hands. The large young rider got to her feet, a grin splitting her not-too-pretty face in half. She missed her clutchmates, and she missed spending time with them: this was an excellent excuse, though she would have to manufacture more in future. “No-one’s going to be doing any work with this just happened. Let’s go raid the storerooms for beer and celebrate!”
PostPosted: Sun Dec 28, 2014 3:58 pm

"I am all for raiding the storerooms for beer." B'ren stood, stretching slowly and grinned. "Beer and maybe swing by the kitchen to liberate a pie." What was a celebration without food?

"Shaff you had me at raid!" Ja'line turned and pressed her way through the filtering crowd, forging a path past the slackers who stayed to gossip when there was drinking to be doing!
