Told You So

It's better than a traitor like you deserves, Evan wanted to say, but didn't because before their ideological differences had driven them apart, they had been pretty good friends. He wasn't even all that surprised, truth be told--he had figured, after the last time they had spent time together, that it was only a matter of when, not if.

He couldn't help but feel a little betrayed, too. He knew she hadn't done this to spite him, but he couldn't help but wish, selfishly, that it had; if it had, they could have dealt with it together, gotten past it together. This, though, was bigger than the both of them, and it was entirely out of his hands.

He could be there for her now, though, as long as he could stand it--as long as they could stand each other. "I have nothing scheduled until later today. I can stay, if you want," he offered.

Told You So

Actually Chel didn't want him here at all. She wanted him to leave and let her die. Every second he was here was another second her skin itched and she wanted to scream. She wanted to stop feeling like everyone was somewhere between pitying her and wanting to kill her.

"Y'can do what you want." Nothing was her choice anymore.

Told You So

"Do you want me to stay?" Evan asked. "Do you want me to go? What do you want? What--what did you even hope to accomplish with all this? What made you think this was at all a good idea?"

Told You So

"I want people to stop treatin' me like I'm a problem they can fix." Which she was, all of the above. "I. Want. To. Die." She said each word very slowly but moved quickly from word to word.

She said it will looking at the wall, her head on her knees in a way that made it so Evan could only see the top of her head, her face completely obscured. "S'at spell it out for you Evan?"

"But why?" He hadn't been at all surprised by her answer. He had expected it, but she hadn't answered his questions. "You have family here. You have friends. The job, it's not that bad, and I thought you had liked it until--whatever, if you don't want to be in the field you could have asked to switch divisions. I just want to try and understand what would make you think dying slow to--whatever the ******** this thing is, is preferable to life here."

Told You So

She doesn't respond. It's the only defense she has in the quarantine. They cannot force her to respond to questions she doesn't want to.

"You don't get to know that." Her words are harsh, and any empathy she had for Evan is quickly being swallowed by an enormous ball of hatred clumped right between her lungs and her heart. She needed someone to direct it at.

Told You So

"Why not? We were friends once, Chel," he reminded her. "I didn't want that to stop. If I had known you were going to do something like this, I would have stuck around anyway. I never wanted you to get hurt."

Told You So

"anything. Her words are sharp and pointy and they are aimed straight at Evan with everything she's got. "We ain't friends anymore."

The angrier she gets the more she realizes she wants to be angry. She wants to twist someone around her finger and watch them grovel for a change. "Because friends don't try ta kill friends." She stands up for a change and begins approaching the glass. "I'm not YOUR. PROBLEM." Her fist slams against the glass, and it is weak- so weak. The motion holds no threat to it- in fact, it's actually quite pathetic. "You ain't my savior Evan! Ain't nobody my ******** savior." She is livid and her eyes are small, manic.

The lab techs behind Evan begin whispering about a tranquilizer dart. The quarantine comes equipped with them, of course, for larger, more unstable figures than Chel. However, they want to watch the interaction play out, wondering perhaps "if anger could be the possible trigger between a possessed state."

Told You So

"That was your choice, not mine," Evan snapped back. Watching her get mad was almost a relief after the apathy she'd shown earlier. There was still a spark of life in her after all, no matter how much she might wish otherwise.

"I'm not trying to be your savior, Chel. I'm not even sure if you can be saved. But you are my problem and you're gonna be my problem until you finally get what you want because that is what friends do. I let you push me away last time, I gave you the space that you wanted, and look what happened! Maybe if I had been there to keep an eye on you, to talk you down," he trailed off, shaking his head. "Whatever. I'm here for you now and this time I'm not going anywhere. So deal with it."

Told You So

"I'm tellin' you to ******** off." Her palms are spread on the class, her nails digging into the clear substance as though she could actually get through it. "Leave me alone Evan."

Told You So

"I just spent a week sitting on the floor of the pod room waiting for a friend to wake up because I guess he wanted some alone time," he informed her. "At least you're awake." He turned away from the glass, but only long enough to grab a chair from the Life tech who had vacated it, too eager to tranquilize Chel. Evan sat his a** in it and raised an eyebrow in challenge. He could be patient.

Loyalty Mission

It was so hard not to completely crumble back down on the floor when Chel merely claps, half for the overly dramatic flair and half because this is the worst. This isn't her friend, this isn't how things ought to be. What's she under quarantine for anyways? Sure, on her way out she can peruse the files now that she'll have time in her stolen lab coat, but the normal answer isn't obvious and that is massively frustrating.
But the teen only sucks in a breath and forces a smile.

Instructions are listened to carefully (gah, she should probably be writing these down), but the flush doesn't go unnoticed. It goes unspoken of, especially when Chel starts in on the personal demise angle.
Both of Abbi's hands clench to rebuke, to get very, very angry at her friend for giving up so easily but all the fight leaves her when Jack's name was said.
He's why Abbi is here at all, and he's who Chel is sending her back to.
"Yeah... I'll make sure he gets it. I'll wrap it with a big green bow and everything." Another smile that's not wholly there.

For a second the girl isn't sure what to do but it doesn't last long.
"Jack is the one who sent me to see you-- Um, no he told me you were here-- I came on my own! Bu-but don't give up! On Jack or gettin' out of here or anything! Cause... Um... Cause its gonna be ok! Really, it will! Maybe not right now, but they won't just let you go! You're a really good fighter an-and you're important to the Island and lots of people here and Jack too! Even if he's a big buttchin emo whiny baby-- UM!" The explosion of words makes her flush now and after a second Abbi let her forehead clonk against the glass with a sigh.
"I don't... Brrrr... You're gonna be ok. And when you get out we're gonna hang out and you can help me find a costume to wear to whatever Halloween party they throw this year... OK?"

Loyalty Mission

"Haw, he'd like the green bow comin' from you," she whistled, impressed by Abbi's thoughtfulness.

Abbi begins her pep speech and Chel's eyes glazed over. The words just washed past her, as though Abbi was reading her a math problem. When she finished, Chel cobbled together a weak, "Yeah. Sounds real good thigh highs."

It hurt too much to put up the front of having to argue to Abbi why she was definitely going to die. So it was best to just agree with Abbi and let Abbi feel like whatever she was doing was effective.

Jack and Finn might not have thought much of Chel, but when it came to people, Chel was very, very smart.

"You'd make a cute minnie mouse or some s**t," she says, moving the conversation along accordingly. "Ya could always borrow my mario costume from last year. Might not fit though ..." Chel wasn't looking at Abbi's chest at all.

Loyalty Mission

She smiles at Chel's approval, but it fades when the teen is tuned out. Abbi knows how useless her words are, but it doesn't stop her from saying them with all the conviction she feels. They fall short because she can't get out from her chest what she feels and has to settle on paltry cliches.
The teen bites her lip, she knows Chel isn't stupid and has rationalized all this. Yet it didn't mean she had rationalized it in the right scope of things.

But Abbi doesn't know how to get what she wants to say across and instead laughs at the suggestion.
"Hey! You don't know that!" She protests with a grin, both hands reaching up to pull open the front of her lab coat and poke her chest out. Observant enough to have caught Chel's open gaze, Abbi is quite proud to show off her growth. "They're bigger now! I bet I would make it super hot! I'm more of a Peach girl though..." Not that she necessarily wanted to wear that after suddenly dressed as Peach in the Haunted House a few weeks ago.

Loyalty Mission

Chel was never opposed to women letting her ogle their boobs.

"Never said you wouldn't~ You'd be cute in anything lil' darlin'." It was true too- Abbi wasn't bad looking by any means. "Any thoughts what you're gonna be?"

She was still thinking on why Jack had requested Abbi come visit her. Did he really think that low of her, that he couldn't even bother a visit himself?

That b*****d.
