Odette pressed herself against the corner wall, body convulsing in fear. She had never been encountered by a highblood like this. Never before had she been so alone, and unable to run away. Where was Just Vigilance? Weren’t they supposed to be here? Ganyma, where was Ganyma? She realized her worst fear. It was a set-up, a trap. It was a trap and they had caught her red-handed.

She clung to the walls as if they provided some form of protection. She was at a total loss for what to do. She couldn’t fight back. She was without her weapon. It was much too heavy to fly with, and she left it back at the sanctuary. And let’s face it, she wasn’t going to win in hand-to-hand combat here. Her blood pusher was pumping at an alarming rate, making her face flush brighter and made her sweat in her gliding suit. With a wave of her hand she wiped the sweat off her brow.

Her goggles fogged up with her rapid breaths, which made it increasingly difficult to see. The features of the highblood and her lusus were muddled through the dark, foggy lenses. The girl's face was not gray. She had paint on it— a lot like the ones on the masks in the theatre. It clicked in her head. She knew exactly what this insane troll wanted.

“I’m so sorry!” she pleaded with the girl. “I-if this is about the m-masks… I can give them back!” She dropped to her knees and took off her bag. Swanmom waddled out beside her charge while the girl dug through her materials. Radio, maps… no it had to be in here somewhere... Ah, there! She retrieved the masks from the bottom of the bag. With both hands, she held the three masks out to the girl. Her hands shook with every fearful second. “P-please take them!” She said. She pleaded with her eyes. Take them and let me go. You will never see me again.

"The town is very depressing to see like this. My hive is down by the bungalows...I'm glad you didn't decide to build here. This hasn't been pleasant." he sounded tired sighing as he settled down beside her, glad they were away from the noise. The noise and bustle meant he was just fine with their current location.

His radio went off, hearing from a remember of Phoenix 1, he was quick about his responding. "Copy that Bird this is Double O. I was watching the Intel report, I dispatched 25 troops to the harbor. They are on root. We are down by the train station. Look for a yellowblood with a tealblood female writing to talk. That's us. Over." Leaning back he set his radio down, keeping an eye out, even if..he didn't know what he was looking for exactly given he'd never met the troll.

Milieu listened to the radio crackle to life with mild concern. An SOS... Things were getting intense. Sighing, the little troll rubbed both of her eyes roughly and leaned back before writing a new message.

| I'm so sorry about your hive... When this is over, I could help you rebuild it. | With all she had learned, building and constructing, it wouldn't take long. It was just... Sad. Milieu remembered seeing her own hive decimated in the earthquake that struck NHC.

A troll appeared then, his mask grayed from dusk. Milieu sat uprgiht, a little alarmed at the state he was in. Nodding, she pointed to Stryke before flipping the page and writing to Sky | My name is Milieu, this is Double O. Are you okay? Do you need anything? |

Another bird lusus huh? Owlmom stared suspiciously as the corvus hopped around, cawing its head off like that. Feathers bristling, she carefully began to preen herself quietly, as a good Lusus should. Milieu eyed the white owl, knowing fully well that the loud noise and sudden surge of activity around them was probably driving the reclusive creature mad.

Although Bird's lusus was pretty cute. A tiny smile curled the ends of her lips as she jotted down a new note and presented it to Skae, | What's your Lusus' name? Mine is Owlmom. She's... Well... You see I would think? | The puffy Owl had been gone but, upon hearing the newcomer, was close to Mili again. Her soft down tickled by the back of the troll's neck.

“Your rebel friends have destroyed my home. You have destroyed my livelihood, and unwittingly you have destroyed the planet itself with your twisted form.” Tamiya hummed. The warning was under her breath. She began to stalk Odette, before the redblood said something shocking.

Her masks. Tamiya’s eyes opened wide with horror. She couldn’t help herself. “YOU-- YOU STOLE MY SLIMESHITTING MASKS? YOU DEFILED MY HIVE AND SET YOUR BLISTERING ANT HILL ******** HORNBITCHES TO RAVAGE ITS SOUL. YOU FLAUNT YOUR SUPERNATURAL TALENT AND MOLEST MY GODDAMN SANCTUARY. YOU’VE BROUGHT RUINATION TO US ALL, YOU FILTHY GODDAMNED THIEFBASTARD.”

It was too much for the girl to bear. Twisting and clutching her fingers, Tamiya stepped forward and nearly fell in her sudden lurch. The redblood wanted atonement? She would give her atonement. Tamiya recovered from her stumble, her chest heaving. She snatched the masks from Odette, hardly conscious of how hard her blood pusher was squeezing.

“There is no place for you on Alternia as you are, thief, shitass dissident, psychic, conniver. Forgiveness demands sacrifice – one can only be forgiven through righting a wrong. You cannot give me back what I have lost. However…” The rage in Tamiya’s face made her lip twitch. With her snarl, one could see her long, flat teeth extending from lip to lip. Tamiya scratched across one of the masks she held in her hands. She still had Sinter’s blood on her fingers – a smudge of red accented the sculpted lips of a mask.

“I am here to solitarily save Alternia. I am here to save you from what you have become.” Tamiya cried. She looked about to tears herself, oddly enough. Every word she spoke was an undying truth, and this girl was hateful and pitiable all the same. She had to be stopped. Tamiya continued to stroke and scratch anxiously at the masks, finding a feather in one of them. Tamiya had her solution. Plucking the feather from its place, she held it in front of her eyes and set the masks on the ground.

A redblood cursed with the guise of flight. She could yet be set right; an exorcism of her wicked abilities. A bird of a feather with her now visible mother, an acquaintance to her masks and the protector of the damned theft. One who teaches her child these horrific deeds, one who passes down the ill seed of destruction against trolls, must be stopped. Her teacher, her corruptor, must be.... The swan.

Tamiya’s gaze twitched down to the small lusus. With a shuddering breath, a howling screech emitted from her. Kabukidad sprung.

Tamiya seized the redblood’s arms in her own. She smeared Sinter’s blood into Odette’s wrists – a fortuitous assistant to the ritual – and used her sharp teeth to draw her own blood from the back of her hand. Brackish purple blood emerged in pinpricks and soon dripped down to fingers onto the redblood’s arms. Tamiya began to pray. Guttural cries to the heavens came between Kabukidad’s agile leaping from tree, until finally he came crashing down on Odette’s lusus with a hiss. Kabukidad’s strong mitten paws sought to pin the creature.

Posted at City Hall, Odette had left three notes for her friends from previous intel missions. She wasn't entirely sure if they would be particularly useful to them, but she felt better knowing she had tried.

The first of the three described the ins-and-outs of the Sparse Residences. It detailed the number of residences, and the potential benefits of building a base there, as well as the hazards. Odette was well prepared for this one.

The second note describe the neighboring Burrow Residences. This base would be easy to get into from next-door, making it an excellent base to attack second. The note was scribbled towards the ending line, indicating that there may have been some sort of incident here.

Stryke smiled at the female troll beside him, when she talked of rebuilding his hive. "That's if theres even a Hive to go back to, I dont know..if its loyalist or rebel controlled anymore I havent had a chance to swing by that sector." He inclined his head to her, still grateful all the same. "Thanks, we'll see how this all works out after the wars over. Your offer means a lot Milieu." He added with some amount of relief. Even if it didn't replace everything he might loose, it was better than being homeless.

Even with the passing conversation, and the small troll about to leave to go blow things up the bookish troll shook his head. "Of course you can come back and talk with us..for now I'm going to stay put and radio in where i can with troops, I haven't figured out how best to use time." He admitted with a small sigh.

The third and final note detailed the structure of the Old Hemisect Opera House. This note had been written in red blood, which stained the notepapers unusually and bled through multiple papers. It was particularly difficult to read.

A whisper amongst the trees tells rebel trolls to return to the Wooded Sanctuary, while a blaring command instructs royalists to return to the Coastal Base. The fighting has ceased momentarily so that each side may attend to their wounded.

From the course of the battle, it is clear that both sides are evenly matched in spirit. While the royalists outnumber the rebels significantly, the hard-fought battle was certainly not in vain. Captain Puchen herself has reportedly been active during the day, finding sleep elusive over the threat of the rebels.

What was supposed to be a construction project has fallen into messy conflict. Young trolls have been pushed into their first taste of war through the ill-advised conversion of the restoration of Old Hemisect into a temporary ousting of the rebels, and a great price has been paid for the rebellion's counter-attack.

However, although the rebel threat was severely underestimated, the royalists regained and held their ground. The fate of both sides is yet to be seen.

At this time, the mechanics of the territory game have ceased. Trolls can continue to post and roll in the training ORPs until 12:00 PM PST of the 27th, when the final phase of the meta will begin. Trolls are welcome to keep RPing in team threads until the 27th as well.

Stryke went off to check on the green blood who had huffed by them. It was another member of JV. Probably that angry guy who had told them help would be there only if they helped out too. Milieu rolled her eyes and leaned back against Owlmom. Fatigue began to grip her mind. In the soft embrace, a fragile sleep took hold of the teal troll. Half in and out of reality, Mili felt the noise around her and less heard it.

It was snapped, instantly, when she heard yelling. Jolting upright, the teal troll looked around rapidly. Fighting here? No. Everyone was calm and doing nothing to protect themselves. No weapons were out, no defensive stances. She could hear fighting.. So...

Milieu looked slowly towards the door that Stryke and the other fellow from JV had gone into. A deep trepidation weigh in her stomach. Swallowing, she approached the door slowly. Yes... They were fighting and... Mili didn't know what to do. Behind her, Owl mom fluffed awake and tottered closer. Her pump biscuit continued to go too fast and erratically. What could she do? What could she do!?

When the green blood burst from the door, Milieu flinched and put on her best 'you done ******** up' face. Kursha only replied to help. As if she needed to be told that. Running into the room, she stopped short. Stryke lay there, yellow blood and bruises exposed, curled in the fetal position. Milieu's eyes widened as she covered his mouth with both hands. What had he done!?

Kneeling, she fumbled in her pockets an found bandages to help patch up the poor troll. Mili rarely wished she could speak, but at that moment she wished she could. Reassuring words were needed now, but all the troll could offer was cool, precise movements.

---

Owlmom sensed the violence, and smelled the blood on Kursha. Eyes narrowed, the fluffy lusus took to the air and followed him. Even if he had a violent outburst, he was still a child and a friend of Milieu's. It was irresponsible to allow him to go alone.

When he seemed to run out of steam, she swooped down and landed in front of Kursha. She hooted at him gently, a firm "Go back to the rail station young man" look on her beak. With a downy wing, she gently whacked him on the side and hooted once more.

Kursha came to a stop in an alleyway. His breath came in short, ragged gasps. His throat and sides ached. Leaning against the wall, Kursha slid down until he was sitting. He had no idea where he was, no idea where he was going. He only knew that the sun was going to rise in a few hours and he needed to find a place to hide until the day passed. Then he would run again.

Suddenly a large feathery creature alighted in front of him. Kursha jumped. It was too big and round to be the Colonel. When it had settled, he recognised that it was an enormous owlbeast. Someone's lusus. The owlbeast hooted at him and then buffeted him with a wing.

Kursha took a moment to decipher what she was saying. “I can't,” he responded. Then, without explaining: “He'll kill me.” His words came out in a rasp. His throat had been rubbed raw.

“Anyway,” he continued, “I'll be fine. I do... better on my own.” It was half-true. He was used to working by himself. That did not make it any less lonely though. Putting his hands on his knees, he stood. “Don't try to stop me or follow me again. I won't be held responsible for what happens to you otherwise.”

Kursha did not want to make a threat, but that was how it was. Turning his back on the lusus, he set off again, this time at a walk. The brief respite had given him enough time to clear his head. He needed to conserve his energy if he was to get anywhere.

Stryke slowly sat himself up at the presence of the much calmer females presence cringing at her coming close afraid for half a second she'd hit him, and because the close contact made him uncomfortable. When she made no threatening gesture he simply relaxed. He wasn't foolish enough to push her hand away, or tell her off. That would require having the energy to fight. For a while he simply just sat still, watching her work before rubbing at the bandages. What had even triggered the violent response he wondered idly, besides the obvious.

Even if she couldn't talk the tealblood's presence was at least calming. "Thanksss.." Stryke added quietly, looking away until she was done.

More radio intel, he was only half aware of what it was saying trying to wrap his thinkpan around the situation. "Would, um you mind just keeping this between us..?" The yellowblood muttered to her, hoping she'd understand. He wasn't looking for retaliation, even if it would have been tempting. There was no trace of a smile, all business and very serious to mask the pain. It wasn't like he could pretend it hadn't happen, but dwelling on it for the rest of the evening wasn't a luxury he could afford. He was already trying to stumble away from the tealblood, hesitating in the door frame only to look back at her, wanting nothing more than to leave this room and go find some place quiet to sit before anymore came looking for the source of commotion.

"To think, this whole war started over some construction." He sounded bitter glaring at his radio, hand shaking, wanting to chuck it as far as he could. Instead let his hands drop at his side in tight fists heading back into the main lobby to go hunker down.

Odette flinched at the highblood’s screaming. With every movement she shrank lower to the ground, making herself as unassuming as possible. She had nothing else to offer this highblood, nothing more to appease her. No other way out. This was her end of the line, wasn’t it? Odette always imagined that it would end like this, at the hands of some lunatic highblood that she was unfortunate enough to bump paths with. She hoped her friends wouldn’t miss her too much. They didn’t deserve that pain.

Everything the highblood said about her was right. She was a thief, a psychic, a dissident. She was garbage that had no place in Alternia. She was trash that needed to be taken out. Despite believing every one of the highblood’s words, she still feared for her life. Odette held her hands to her forehead and cried. The ruddy tears fell from her eyes and pooled at the bottom of her goggles. She wanted to remove them and wipe the tears away, but she didn’t dare to move. Doubled over, she closed her eyes and continued to cry.

The highblood shrieked and Odette fell back. “Please, no! I don’t want to die!” She screamed at the girl, but it was too late. The highblood seized her arms, and prepared her ritual. Odette tried but struggled to break free of the girl’s grasp. She had no fight left to break free. She accepted her fate.

It was too late before she noticed the other girl’s lusus hovering over her own. Swanmom’s brittle bones cracked audibly under the weight of the much larger lusus. She let out a small honk with her last dying breath.

“Mama!” Odette cried. She screamed and kicked at the other girl’s legs. She had to break free from the girl. Her lusus, the thing she loved more than anything in the world— she had to grab her away from that wretched monster.
