[ Room 103 ]

If Gene could be described as anything at that particular moment, it would be a stubborn and incessant hurricane set ablaze by the fires of self-pity and disappointment. She was hitting everything she could with her dulled axe; the walls, the floors, the furniture.

Finally, she rounded on the stupid cabinet that started the fire. She didn't give a rip what Parker said about it bringing an awful end. If it affected him enough to kill them for opening it, surely it'd be an insult - and right now, all Gene wanted to do was spit in his smug face.

Rearing back, Gene slammed the axe down as hard as she could into the cabinet.

At first he stood tall in the face of Mathias' disapproval, but it didn't take long for Brenley to deflate under the weight of the boil's words. Yes, as much as it stung to hear someone else point it out, he was well aware of his cowardice. Still, it had kept him alive this long, and if it got him out of here, it was worth a lot more name-calling and guilt trips than he had received so far. They could come and take his key from him if they were all so brave.

"I am defensive because I don't like being... bullied," he finally said, his voice small. Deep down he knew they were only suspicious because he was acting so shady, but he had little choice but to continue doing so now. This had all gone so terribly wrong.

He looked to the hall, unable to hear what everyone was reacting to but glad for the distraction. Maybe he would get his chance to sneak out when they all ran off to see what it was.

She had easily ignored the sounds drifting from the hallway; it could very well have been someone else simply mucking around. She had to be focused on her plan, her mission to not give anything up; not a life nor her skin.

But at the sound of the Fracs' voice, Marzena froze. It was closer than she thought it would be. Maybe this hadn't been as clever as she originally planned it to be; she had believed that it would have probably been interested in rounding up the other survivors.

It was dumb of her to even think that it would not witness their attempt to escape, especially when all four keys had been gathered.

And then Llyrendil's voice answered her, the first yes unsure, the second firm. She hadn't doubted him, and yet Marzena had to bite back a 'thank you' rising from the depths of her throat. If she had been someone else, she wasn't sure if she would have trusted a scowling selkie that was prone to violently kicking down doors.

Of course, he hadn't seen that, but the fact remained that a part of her was grateful... not that she would easily say that out loud.

"It wanted me to kill someone in Room 103 to get back my skin." She murmured softly. "I won't do it." Not can't. She didn't have qualms about battling someone else, even in her state, but she would have rather died than bow down to anyone who held her skin as a threat. "If I stay here to find it, it'll continue to dangle it over my head. Or make someone else kill. Who knows?"

Slowly, she pushed over the towel that held most of her items to him. "There's a syringe inside it that contains a sedating agent. Maybe it can help you stay alive while we get help."

"I promise you I'll come back."

In one fell swoop, Gene's axe not only broke through the battered metal, but landed with a slick, wet thunk into something much softer. Something that uttered a surprised gurgle before falling into a silence that seemed to tick on forever, though only a second had passed.

Blood began to seep out of the newly made hole in the cabinet.

As soon as the metal gave way, sparks of pleasure leaped arcs through her brain at the crunch of one weaker metal surrendering to the other. A widespread grin across her face quickly dropped, her whole body shuddering at the next sound.

Squelch.

She knew that sound too well, something familiar and uncomfortable. Gene had heard the sound whenever one of her fleshier classmates had fallen to a Hunter, and she dropped the axe as soon as the gurgle was heard.

Oh Jack, the blood. A crimson river spelling her name, painting her in the guilt of murder. Who had she killed? Who's life had she brought to a terrible end?

With great trepidation, Gene looked inside the bleeding cabinet.

All Gene would see was blood, and what looked like pieces of a black leather jacket, and as she tried to see further, she would hear something loud:

The metal cabinet gave a groan as the internal weight pressed against the broken doors.

Shortly after was a metal snap as the lock holding the door broke open, allowing the chopped metal doors to fly open under the pressure. Gene would only barely step back in time to avoid getting hit by the tall, stocky body that tumbled out of the cabinet.

He landed face down, the cartilage of his nose shattering against the unrelenting floor. Then he lay still, save for the movement of his own blood as it pooled out of him.

Behind the group, two thick metal doors began to groan - and then, suddenly, they swung shut and slammed together with an echoing clang, one that was followed shortly by a heavy sounding click, as the lock fit back into place on the door. There were no handles on this side of the door, and the room only seemed to get colder -

If they listened closely, they would hear other sounds - more doors, slamming shut and locking, both above and below them. Every opened room was sealed once more, until every student present - both alive and dead - were trapped in one of the rooms, unable to escape.

"...Oops!" The Fracs, who was still sitting in the Lobby and listening in to the group, let out a gasp. If the group turned towards it, they would find it staring towards the closed lobby doors with its fur fluffed out as though it had been startled. It calmed down pretty quickly as once-hidden vents in the top corners of the room began to open one by one, releasing a slight fog that somehow made the room colder. All around the building, similar things were happening - vents were opening, and fog was being released into each room, and every hallway. It was a chilling fog, and it was quickly becoming more difficult to see.

"You'd better hurry, time's ticking~!" It sang out from behind its mask.

The OOC

Whatever room your student is currently in - even in the hallway - they are locked in. The door won't budge, and it doesn't seem like you can beat the door down if you tried. More than that, something is seeping into each room and hallway. Something that is quickly filling the enclosed space...it's also draining 5hp per post you make from here on out.

It's probably a good idea to leave soon...

was either still talking or, like Mathias, internally debating what to do. You will suffer. That was all the wolpertinger could think about when he looked at the doors, and all he could do was wonder if what was on the otherside was actually worse then what they currently faced here.

"I am thinking...." He started to say, when suddenly the doors clanged shut behind them all, and audible clicks could be heard from above and below. Mathias winced, his ears flattening back, and then he gave his head a swift shake.

"Am thinking it is time to be going." He looked back at the others. He looked back at the four others in the room and knew that one was going to have to be left behind.

He just couldn't shake the feeling that whatever end he had coming in this room, this room that was growing now steadily colder, with gas filtering in from above, a hissing sound that could not be ignored....

It would be more peaceful. It would be okay for whoever had to stay.....

He nodded his head suddenly.

"Am going."

He walked up to the four doors, made his way to the first in the row, and shoved his key in the lock, quickly turning it.

The time for arguing, it seemed, had ceased. He had had every intention on giving his key to the only person he trusted (Since he couldn't find Remi or Pachua and he was actually getting a little worried about them...) but with the sound of slamming and locking doors and that low hiss....

No, something told him there was no longer time. And Matty seemed to have his own key - and there was sure as hell nobody else he'd give it to at that moment. He knew he was going to be useless - but he was going to try anyway.

"I am going with you!" he called for Mathias, still clutching his makeshift satchel and his sledge hammer he hurried to the door beside Mathias's and shoved his key in the lock, turning it.

Brenley tensed as the door leading deeper into the building slammed shut, the strange noises that had emanated from the hall forgotten. With no one accusing or questioning him, he quickly recalled the reason he had come here in the first place: escape. He was already freezing, and as he shakily pulled his key out of his belt pouch, stuck it into the lock and turned it, he silently hoped that these self-sacrificing imbeciles hadn't ruined his chances of survival.

His heart felt strange inside of his chest, Llyr looking down at Marzena with a slight tilt to his head, the waves of his dark hair falling over one bare, scaled shoulder. She was a difficult ghoul to figure out; their first meeting, she had not even wanted to smile for him, and now she was telling him that she wouldn't kill anyone and giving him something to sedate? someone?

Llyr did not understand, but at least he knew that she was entrusting him.

"Wait," he said, and his fingers curled around her arm, almost childlike. "Are you - you're going to leave me?"

He trusted her much more than he trusted the other boil, the defensive one currently at the door. Llyr's face grew sad, his expression mingling between bemusement and concern. He leaned his head down and pressed his lips to Marzena's forehead in a gesture of affection.

"Hurry back," he told her, and then stood, dragging her towel with him. His fingers curled around the syringe inside and without hesitation Llyr strode across the room to where the boil was, holding a key that he was currently pushing into a lock.

"No," he said, "No, I won't let you leave us here alone."

And with that he lunged towards Brenley; but his aim was not quite true, and his fingers were fumbling.

The syringe dropped to the floor, rolling towards the boil's feet.

Mere moments away from supposed freedom, Bren only had eyes for the door, but when he heard Llyr's voice close by, the reaper left his key suspended in the lock and spun to face the other boil, apprehension in his eyes. Fighting back was not something he thought to do, though he did take a step away from the surprising confrontation, staring at the syringe as it slipped from Llyr's hand and clattered onto the floor between them. He moved with a quickness he wouldn't have thought he could, considering how cold he was, crouching and grabbing the needle before anyone else could get their hands on it. Brenley said nothing, wide eyes narrowing imperceptibly as he stowed the uncapped needle safely in his belt pouch and reached back to hold his key.

As the doors began to slam, she felt her blood turn to ice before the temperature even started dropping. It was a chill that ran deep into her soul; being a selkie, she could withstand the coldest of waters, but this was nothing like the icy waves in which she used to swim and frolic about in. A fog was seeping into the room, and the Fracs confirmed her worst fears. They were being forced to make a decision. Now.

Deftly, Marzena began to undo her bloodied bandages to replace them with new ones, and also to ease out the key she had been hiding within the swathes of gauze. She had been so focused on this that she almost jerked in surprise when his fingers closed around her arm. "Yes." She told him quietly in response, her eyes darting quickly to the now open doors that had been unlocked. She was not going to lie that she would stay and then abandon him. Nor did she even think of giving up her key; she was not that selfless.

But the gentle kiss to her forehead almost made her wonder if she should. Her resolve stayed as she twisted the cleaner bandages tightly around her arm. She would be back, indeed.

And Marzena quietly stood and marched to the last door, unlock it with a final click with the key stained with her blood. She was about to open it, but the unexpected happened with Llyr heading towards the other boil.

She hadn't quite thought he would use it so soon. A part of her had imagined he might have gotten the chance to use it against their captor, but his attempt to sedate Brenley failed, and she watched in horror as it rolled towards the reaper and was taken into his possession.

"We need to go!" She barked out tersely. "We still need to find our way back!" Hopefully, they would avoid further conflict; this building was like a ticking time bomb, and they did not have any more time to waste.

Her hand twisted the doorknob, willing it to open. As soon as it did, she would swim for her life. Even with an arm injured, Marzena was confident she was the fastest swimmer out of the four of them.

And she did not want to be on the receiving end of the syringe that she once held.

The doors opened one by one, their locks clicking open and their hinges crying as though they hadn't been used in ages. Each door opened into blackness, and from each dark opening came a natural, rather salty breeze. In the distance was the roar and crash of the sea against rock, and beyond that was an uninhabited silence that stretched further.

They stepped through the doors one by one, as though it had been choreographed, and one by one the doors closed behind them, swinging on their own accord and clicking shut in a rather gentle manner. Mathias, Aurel, Brenley and Marzena disappeared from sight -

- And the moment Marzena's door closed, the PA system screeched into life as a familiar, squeaky voice offered a message to those left behind:

Twenty-four hours remain!

All around the building, the vents closed and the harmful vapors dissipated. Doors that had been unlocked previously re-opened...and the little Fracs in the Lobby finally moved, breaking its statue-esque stillness by tilting its head to the side a fraction of an inch.

"--Oops. It was the last creature..." The tiny creature chuckled as if amused by its big mistake, before getting up to trot out of the lobby with an obvious, delighted bounce to its step.

The OOC

Mathias, Aurel, Brenley and Marzena:
You step into the darkness, and your only light source vanishes with the closing of the door behind you. You look around, and you can see the outlines of the other three that had escaped with you, but not much else. The silence between you is astounding, and you find yourself pausing to take in the sudden quiet, as if it were the most relaxing, natural thing in the world.

Then, all at once, you remember where you are, and what you had to do to get out here - the things you may have promised or done, and your urge to get home, or get help.

It's time to go.

You may either roleplay or solo it. If you choose to RP it, I will pop in with mini-prompts, but if you choose to solo it, please PM The Escaped for your prompts, to do with as you please! (Please note that under the circumstances, I highly suggest soloing it - or even group solo (i.e. similar to drabbles!).)

Everyone Else:
The building has been opened up once more, so whatever had been unlocked during the game is now open again. The fog is also gone, and because of this, it no longer hurts to move! You are free to do whatever you'd like in here; you may continue to explore, or you can try to interact with the Fracs, who seems happy enough to come when it is called, or you can even sit there and do nothing - it's entirely up to you.

There is a countdown update every hour on the hour, announcing how much time you have left alive in this world.

What do you do in the last twenty-four hours of your life, while trapped in a building?

You may either roleplay or solo it. If you choose to RP it, I will pop in with mini-prompts to announce the time as ticks by, but if you choose to solo it, please PM The Escaped for your prompt! (Please note that under the circumstances, I highly suggest soloing it - or even group solo (i.e. similar to drabbles!).)

16-20: You manage to reach the end of the island without much incident, but as you stand on the edge of the island, listening to the crashing waves and screaming wind, you feel something against your back; a hand, pushing you off your precarious perch. The sharp, unforgiving rocks below catch your fall, and you survive just long enough to feel the water steal your breath right from your lungs. You wake up a full twenty-four hours later, in your own bed.
