Big was entirely too curious about this tea-and-cookies place, especially since it didn't seem to be populated by vaguely menacing talking trees or Jabberwocks. His interest in the giant party had led him to explore more than he probably should have, which was how he had ended up here. Perhaps his conclusion that this place was relatively harmless had been made in haste. He was just about to turn around and leave when a blonde Hatter stepped so close that he couldn't get around her without nudging her a little. He wasn't in the mood to deal with the possible side effects of nudging someone he didn't know, but he also really wasn't in the mood to get married today.
"Can I help you... Foo-off?" he inquired, carefully reading her name from where it bobbed above her head.

fouof began to nod. Vigorously. Almost as if she was alarmed and worried about something and that whatever it was, only (a quick glance at the boil's username) BigIdeas could help her! She had her hands clasped together imploringly at him. And if her eyes were visible (which they weren't) they would have been wide and pleading.

She was obviously in distress, but what she thought he could do to assist, he had no clue.
"I... Do you need something?" He glanced at the dormouse and the decor, uneasiness creeping into the set of his brows. "I could try to help, but... could we do it outside?"

From nodding, fouof instead started to shake her head. Just as vigorously. She knew she normally didn't give much credence for personal space or social norms or polite comfort and so as a mad hatter she certainly wasn't going to start now. Firmly, she gripped at his arm and started to tug him towards the building.
Yes, it should be becoming apparent that what she needed him for was to complete this candlejacking marriage quest. Please please please please please.

"Oh! What... um," Big said as she dragged him off in the opposite direction from which he wanted to go. It didn't take him long to realize what exactly he was helping her with, but his throat had gone so dry that he couldn't speak again until he was too far in to save himself.
"You want me to help you get married," he finally said in a small, resigned voice. "But... we don't even..."
For a second Big thought that maybe he did know this silent ghoul, but he pushed that possibility right out of his head no no no. There were plenty of people who didn't speak, right? He had just come across a second one. What a lovely coincidence.
Besides, this was just a game. He could handle getting married in a game, even if it was to someone he... went to school with. His mother was going to kill him.
Finding he had squeezed his eyes shut as if to ward off what was coming, Big forced them open again and smiled very shakily.
"Yes. Okay. I can help. Let's do this."

The moment he agreed, fouof dropped the helpless damsel in distress seeking her knight in shining armor act. She was more of a damnedsel anyway and gave him a grin that fit her job class to a T. Oh she was grateful she found someone to marry her and she was even happier that he was reluctant about it.
This was just a game and that was the only reason why she could actually bring herself to go through with it. Marriage back in Halloween? No. She wanted no part of intimacy or closeness or any of the emotional vulnerability that was part and parcel of it. Here, they were strangers simply doing this to get a tax breakgreen card level up.
fouof wasn't allowed to get too far away from her husband-to-be, although why that was sounded impractical and a definite recipe for a bottleneck if fouof ever saw one. Huh. Maybe she should get pointers from the doormouse? To spite the NPC, she grabbed the first cake she could reach, and found the Bread and Butter (and Jam) Cake actually tasted jacking good!

Big examined the cakes in front of him, determined to do a good job of this wedding thing now that he had committed to it. Carefully sniffing and prodding at each in turn, it took him several minutes to dismiss all but one, the vanilla.
He glanced at fouof, looking a little sheepish. "I wouldn't want any of the guests to... forget it."

fouof was the perfect picture of patience while Big pondered on his cake choice. (And maybe taste-tested the others again while waiting, what? The doormouse wasn't stopping her.) She gave him a smile and a thumb's up, as if agreeing with his confectionary decision. She did, however, tilt her head at his consideration for the guests.
Mainly because they had none apart from the NPCs and, well, she rather liked it that way. Patting him on the arm, they proceeded to the tablets for guardians and there was no question which one fouof would pick. Sure, it had been a dangerous, unbeatable creature but jack damn it, she wanted the Jabberwock.
Wordlessly, but with a patient smile on her face, fouof turned to Big to await his decision.

This choice was quite a bit easier, though Big couldn't have said why. It certainly didn't have anything to do with guiding his future in this union though.

Now at the large box, fouof hesitated. Just for a second. She adjusted her hold on the tablet and cake, though it was only for show before she was rummaging through the box of trinkets. Amongst all the bright and colorful possibilities, she pulled out a tiny grey statue on a tiny square pedestal, missing its tiny nameplate. It seemed... surprisingly fitting for her.
She stood there for a good few seconds just staring at it with unseen eyes.

Big's discomfort momentarily returned when he reached the box, not because he felt any nostalgia over the things inside, but because everything looked so cramped and filthy. Luckily, there was something he was interested in right on top. He picked up the smooth pebble and was surprised to find it was warm to the touch. All right, that last bit was a little weird, but he couldn't enchant things here, so if it already had magic or was somehow... alive, he supposed that was fine.
He gently nudged fouof with his elbow. "Ready?"

She was gently nudged out of her reverie and felt her cheeks tinge pink in embarrassment. Candlejacking hell, she wasn't supposed to feel anything about this silly trinket but she did and she was caught and if that wasn't such a pathetic display, Superior would definitely have something to say about it. But Superior wasn't here and that cheered fouof up immensely.
What she hoped was a brilliant smile lit her face as she nodded to Big and headed for the teapot where they were supposed to toss everything in, according to the doormouse. She did as instructed and tipped the teapot over for the finished ring.

Finally silent himself, Big trailed after his soon-to-be fake wife and got to stuffing the strange things he had collected into the teapot as well. The ring he produced was actually a pair of them, held together by an unseen force. They were gold, their smooth surfaces interrupted by tiny blue stones, so smooth that they almost shone.
"Hm," he said. "Fascinating." Maybe all of this embarrassment had been worth it.

fouof rather liked how hers came out, the gold band had red swirls in the metal and seemed to converge beneath the tiny blank nameplate. She couldn't help but smile at the Jabberwock teeth engraved on the edge. The blonde ghoul held the ring out towards her almost-husband, her head cocked at him and an almost wan smile on her lips.
If he refused she would be fine. If he accepted she would be fine too. This was just a game. None of it was real, she reminded herself. Even if someone in Amity would indulge her like this, she didn't think she could handle it for long without growing attached.
