Hesper stood very still as the hatchling sniffed her, probably getting a good snoutful of muddy sand and kitchen smells. Her heart beat quickly in her chest. This blue had been hard on some of the other candidates, and she would prefer not to get mauled. But there was also the chance that maybe, just maybe, the blue wanted her. So she stood still and let the hatchling do what he wanted.

She watched as more dragons hatched from the shells and she noticed the one seemed quite confused as to what to do. She watched as the excited green went over towards one of the groups of girls and wanted to play, however it didn't seem to her that they were in the mood for it. At least she wasn't violent, she was just playful.
she looked over towards the rusted egg dragonet as she sat down and gave a chirp.

Demanthra

Demanthra had been quiet as more of the eggs hatched, including three hidden eggs. Oh dear, how could there be so many eggs that had been buried in the sands. She watched the last hidden egg, that they knew about, turn out to be a blue and she could tell he was upset. Poor thing, she could only hope that he would be alright and find his. She had been glad the mean green had impressed finally and was surprised it had been a healer, one that hadn't been a candidate. She hadn't seemed too worried about the green that seemed to want to play, even if it seemed to hurt some of the girls. The one blue that had come from the silver egg, he seemed very upset, she could only hope he would impress soon, before he hurt anyone else. With so many dragons, she could only hope one of them or their unhatched siblings could be her's.

Astriana

Astriana was happy to see the injured green get impressed, though hadn't expected it to be someone that was not a candidate. She guessed it must be one of those things that was just bound to happen. She saw some other dragons emerge from their eggs, including some hidden eggs. She felt anger well up inside of her, how could they let something like that happen. Those eggs should have been cared for, just like the others. Fire burned in her eyes, someone should tell these people that baby dragons should not have to claw their way out of sand. She was trying to contain her anger at this as she saw some of the dragons attack some of her fellow candidates, thinking they should remember to be on their toes out here. When a blue emerged from the sands, she felt sorry for the poor thing as it let out an angry bugle. She tried to show through her eyes that none of them buried it and was relieved when it calmed down. She hoped the blue would find his, she really did.

Ashlyn and Gyafrith

Ashlyn mine, that first blue hatched is a disgrace. How can he treat others like that, he shouldn't be so rude,Gyafrith huffed to his rider in anger. He had been happy a blue had finally emerged from one of the eggs, but he did not approve of how he was acting.

"He is just a baby, my dear dragon, please try not to be so hard on him. I know you expect a lot from them, but do calm yourself. I am more worried that there are hidden eggs. That blue that just came out, he looked very upset,"the young woman replied. Her dragon rumbled an agreement to that, though both were glad the second blue had calmed down.

From her ledge the great gold let out a loving croon. The dragon seemed to radiate her pride in Hyweth as the younger gold guarded her eggs and wanted to show her the support she deserved. They were a select few, her kind, they acted in ways others did not understand. Even her own did not fully understand Calith's actions all the time when it came to her eggs. She could not hear her young before it was birthed. She could feel it and knew things about it, but it could not share emotion and thought the way that her young could. Perhaps though it was needed, she had so many more to care for, they needed to be able to voice themselves from such a young age. Their minds were so raw before they impressed, tangled messes of surging emotions. Some could become so upset if they were placed together or too far apart. A gold could spend candlemarks, even days finding a layout that they were all content with. Of course then there were those that saw fit to change their minds every few days about who they wanted to rest with.

Hyweth's calls did not go unheard either as Calith let out another croon. I see them, sweet one. They are very strong, just as you are. She couldn't go down on the sands though, even if Hyweth had wished it. There was not enough room for both golds, the eggs and the candidates too. She had helped the young gold with her eggs over the sevendays they had laid hardening, but with all the little people on the sands now there was no way for her to move with confidence among them. Still, she felt from brave, young, Hyweth, sat in the wet and mud to guide her young to their chosen.

"They certainly have character." It wasn't the most dramatic clutch Ticene had ever seen and she was certainly thankful for that. The calmer a hatching the more at ease the Weyrwoman tended to be. Less injured hatchlings and less chances of Weyrlings holding grudges. Sometimes she wished the grudges of the newly impressed faded as fast as their dragon's did. They weren't as good at remembering when someone did them wrong as their human counterparts. "You say that every hatching." R'yn always commented at some point or another about how the Weyrlingmaster would have his hands full with the newest Weyrlings. It got to be repetitive after a while and had it been from anyone other than her Weyrmate then she'd probably have gotten irritated by now.

Tiry giggled as her hair was ruffled turning her eyes to the bronze had pointed out. "Gereh?" She questioned, looking back at her father, before large green eyes moved to look up at the ledges, she could see Calith, but not Gereth. The youngster was coming along well with speaking, though couldn't manage a 'th' sound, which meant no dragon got it's full name. Receiving a 'eh' instead at the end. She was pulled away from her search for the familiar bronze when her father once again directed her attention. She didn't know Hyweth very well, but she understood the unpleasantness of being wet and having to stay that way. "Poor, Hyweh," she stated, somewhat matter of factly. She didn't like being made to stay places and the fact that Hyweth wasn't making a fuss was very surprising to her. She stared at the dragon thoughtfully while her parents spoke behind her.

"I'm sure she's fine. She's strong. Stronger than she realises yet." The goldrider was coming along well. Often shadowing Ticene to learn what a Weyrwoman did. Ticene found it quite useful having an assistant, it could be very helpful at times when she needed to be everywhere at once and she trusted Joleen to act responsibly and make the right decision. Ticene was always a short dragon message away if she ever did want to check her decisions after all. Still, the Weyrwoman did her best not to overtax the youngster, making sure she had time to herself. Goodness knew if she became Weyrwoman she could kiss that goodbye. Ticene often wondered what she would have grown to be like had she not been made Weyrwoman straight after graduation. A bitter memory rolled in her mind and Tic pushed it back. No. That was in the past now and there was no need to dwell on it.

I love you xD. "Accidentally" posted.

Hyweth may not have minded if Calith had squashed a few candidates. Some, she felt, were certainly unworthy of being there. That one, the crying one, why, her daughter had only been playing with her! And that other, the one who had yelled--she didn't belong there either! If they couldn't behave respectfully--Hyweth calmed at Calith's words, eyes shifting, slowly, from red to a mix of blues and reds. This weather, really!

They are strong like you, as well. You taught me to be strong, Mother. Oh, if only the hatching grounds were bigger! She would've repeated her request. Instead, she coiled her tail around her eggs, studying the candidates closest to her.

"Nsturally, like their mother," R'yn glanced towards Hyweth. He couldn't imagine harboring a gold's need to protect her eggs: he'd always imagined it was like when he felt the need to comfort Tiry, or to spoil her. He could see now, that it was different. Even if he had been stuck in this weather with Tiry, he would've moved inside with her. A gold couldn't. She had to protect them from where she was. R'yn didn't think he would have been able to do that. "Its true every hatching," R'yn grinned. "Every hatching has spirited hatchlings and spirited candidates. They become troublesome weyrlings, and later, great riders."

"Like Gereth," R'yn said, ruffling his daughter's hair again. "That's right," he said. Poor Hyweth. Ista weather was often unpredictable. He hoped it didn't become worse later on.

"You're right," R'yn agreed, giving Ticene another squeeze. "She's strong. Like you."

Oh! They didn't want to play! The frosted green darted away from Elsi when she screamed, and instead hid behind Kaimi. Did this girl understand the joy of life? Did she know the pleasures of the world? Did she want to play?

Play with me, Kaimi! Come, we will dance, and take joy in everything we do! Others will join us, and they will be our friends. Come, and together, we will teach Pern to dance!

Kaimi

The harper turned as the playful green darted behind her. What did she want? She stared down at the delicate creature and it stared back up at her, eyes whirling in a rainbow of color. Kaimi felt her heart surge in her chest - it was as if she were being drowned in emotion, and in this glorious presence.

Play with me, Kaimi! Come, we will dance, and take joy in everything we do! Others will join us, and they will be our friends. Come, and together, we will teach Pern to dance!

"Oh Zimrith." Kaimi sunk to her knees, stunned, and threw her arms around the dragon. Zimrith. Her Zimrith - the one that danced and played and had a heart just like Kaimi's. "Of course we will dance, my love. But aren't you hungry?"

Yes, I would like to eat too. Zimrith wiggled, nudging Kaimi into a standing position. You will feed me and then we will have a game. The dragon decided. Kaimi's proud grin practically split her face as she walked with her sweet Zimrith over to the feeding station. She couldn't wait to tell Paige!

T’anis and Kosth –

T’anis had been washing his face after having finished his meal when the humming began. The dragons were sounding the start of the hatching! He didn’t want to miss anything and this time around he didn’t have to hurry off to pull on the white hatching robe and sandals. Smiling at the memory of his own experience Impressing Kosth, he chuckled feeling her reach out and drove him on. ‘Don’t be late, Mine, and be mindful of the mud and water lest you slip and fall.’

‘I won’t, I won’t. I’ll be careful. I’m not completely unaware of the dangers of slippery, muddy ground, my darling.’ The greenrider made his way to the stands and paused to look around for Ashlyn. T’anis squinted, shielding his eyes from the rain, and couldn’t find her sitting in the stands. Where in the world could she be? Her sister was out there surely she’d not want to miss out. ‘Kosth, from where you are, can you see where she or Gyafrith may be?’

Peering around, Kosth took a moment before responding. ‘She is sitting with Gyafrith on a perch. How come you aren’t sitting with me or off sitting with her?’ There was a definite pout in the green’s tone which brought a chuckle from the young man.

‘Kosth, love, I will happily sit with you. I may not get as close a view, but we can certainly watch the hatching together. Let’s sit with Ash and Gyafrith.’ A flash of where the pair was sitting came to his mind. ‘Got it. Thank you much, dear heart.’ With that, T’anis headed off to see if he could reach them before too much of the hatching went on. He bid a silent good luck to those out there on the sands and slipped off into the rain. ‘Keep me updated on what goes on please. You’ll reach them before I do.’

Kosth landed on the perch nearest to the blue and his rider. ‘A green just impressed a girl, T’anis.’

In his haste to try to reach the perched trio, T’anis slipped in a watery mud puddle and landed flat on his back. “Oof! Ugh…” The ex-caravaneer sighed. Wonderful. Just wonderful. Hauling himself back up, he shook himself and continued on his way, flicking mud and water off of his hands and arms.

Lute

Lute hadn’t actually been eating. She had eaten earlier and had been taking a few moments to oil her flits. The blues certainly were enjoying the TLC. Then the humming began for the start of the hatching. The weather certainly could have been better, but when babies were ready for the world there wasn’t any stopping them. Heading on down arm-in-arm with her weyrmate, Lute settled into her seat, lacing her fingers with T’rel’s. “I look forward to seeing who you’ll be teaching, love,” She said with a smile as the hatching and Impressing began.

Becka smiled at S'aen and congratulated him in return, his dragon had tried to protect Taikirth which had been nice of him, in fact Taikirth's feelings towards the brown were a lot less cool than they were towards her Golden sister. Rather than dwell on how Taikirth had been hurt Becka distracted her by feeding her more chunks of meat, would Taikirth ever be full?

Balchas wasn't pleased when a Healer practically dragged him to the rear line of candidates as to take a better look at the bite on his arm, the bleeding hadn't stopped yet and the healer was insistent he get it treated, telling him that if his dragon was here it would find him. Balchas tried to refuse but the look on the Healer's face made him change his mind, the faster he let the man get on with it the faster he could get back to standing where he should be, so he followed the healer back to the healer's table. Impatiently waiting for his arm to be washed then bound, with an order to return once the hatching was over for a more thorough treatment of it. The bleeding had slowed to more of an oozing but the fact it had soaked through his robes was bad enough, he'd have no problem with his arm in the future, he was assured but only if he came back for proper treatment. The threat of possibly being unable to use his arm properly scared Balchas, if he wasn't 100% fit, he wouldn't be able to become a rider. He gave his promises then went back to the other candidates. All in all it had taken only minutes but it had felt like longer, especially since when he returned there was a new green on the sands, where had she come from? The playful Green had Impressed it seemed and was moving off. What else had he missed, Balchas grumbled and looked for his sister among the girls, had she Impressed? He couldn't see her from where he stood but she wasn't at the feeding tables.

Mairin smiled when yet another pair was united. She was currently wringing water out of her braid but she'd seen the special moment occur and watched as the two headed away from the group and off to the feeding tables. There was little time to dwell on it though, there were still quite a few unhatched eggs on the sands as well as several hatchlings trying to find their partners and menacing some of the candidates. Things were lively though not quite hectic for the time being.

Paige

Introduction complete, Paige was able to settle into the actual act of feeding Venaith. The blood and the mess didn't bother Paige as much as it might have at any point before now. Now it was nothing to be handling raw meat because it was for Venaith. She needed it and therefore Paige had no reservations about giving it to her. As the new brownrider joined them he got a smile and a quick congratulations, but she was bent on her task now and he seemed to have eyes for Becka instead. Not that Paige was thinking about things like that right now.

There was some time where she didn't notice much else, no other ex-candidates had come their way recently and Paige didn't even wonder about it as Venaith got slowly sleepier as her stomach filled. What had they said... don't overfeed but let them stop when they were ready? It wasn't like firelizards that you stuffed into submission. Venaith would have been hers had there been food or not (though it was far better that there WAS!)

Venaith was a careful eater at least, the juices dripping from the meat were licked up before they could make a mess of her hide, and she was careful about the size of bites she would accept, she was using her new bond to her advantage, picking bits of information from Paige's mind as they fluttered across the surface of her consciousness. It was how she had recognized that Taikirth's was not a candidate, and that she shouldn't eat large pieces of meat though she didn't understand why. But it was the right thing to do, so she did it.

Activity from the Sands drew Paige's attention as both dragon and rider's focus on feeding waned. Another candidate was walking their way with a dragon in tow. It took Paige a few moments to register who it was but when she did, she leapt from her seat, making Venaith jump in surprise as hers squealed quite loudly. "KAIMI!!!!!!!!"
PostPosted: Tue Mar 18, 2014 9:58 am

Kaimi

"Oh! There's Paige! She impressed the gold! She's our friend, you know." Kaimi was still so elated and flustered that she hadn't really considered the fact that she didn't need to communicate with Zimrith vocally.

Lets go and say hello, then! I will make friends with your friend and I will say hello to my sister-queen. Zanrith wove circles around Kaimi as the two made a beeline for where Paige and Venaith were settled.

"Oh Paige! Can you believe it?" Kaimi squealed, beaming. "This is my Zimrith! MY Zimrith!" Her emphasis on the "my" indicated that her level of disbelief was still incredibly high. "Isn't she gorgeous? And your gold is so beautiful!"

Letting Kaimi chatter on, Zimrith settled next to Venaith. Hello sister, happy impression day! Mine is very fond of Yours it seems. Her tone was smug and happy.

Bacha

Of all the days! Bacha fumed as she fumbled the candidate robe on. Why did she have to be so far away? The rain didn't bother her too much. A farmer got use to rain and welcomed it. No she'd been at the farthest reaches of the Weyr helping after having an early lunch. So of course she'd been the last sharding candidate to realize the dragons were humming. Her first hatching since returning and she's late! How could this be?

Racing through the rain, the already soaked candidate reached the Sands. She bowed to the queen and took a quick glance around. Oh! There was the newly hatched queen at the feeding tables with a girl. She'd have to congratulate her later. Not only was the gold there, but several other dragons with their new riders. Man she was so late. Bacha turned to glance over the Sands. There was still some eggs to hatch and some hatchlings walking around.

Rising up on tippy-toes, she tried to see around the other female candidates toward the boy's section. Where was her brother? She hoped he'd made it on time.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 18, 2014 12:17 pm

Balchas was confused as he saw his sister rushing up to the girls, he'd been looking around for her in that section anyway, having missed some Impressions, he could have sworn he'd seen her when they first lined up. Must have been mistaken, everyone looked much the same in the robes.

This time he did give her a double, thumbs up, forgetting for a moment that his sleeve was cut away to dispose of the blood stained material, exposing his bandaged arm. it wasn't until he lifted his arm that he hissed in slight pain, despite the numbweed and brought his injured arm back down and waved with his good hand instead. Hopefully she'd Impress and hopefully NOT to that awful tiny blue that had bitten him.

Bacha

Relief at her brother's two thumbs up was quickly squashed by the sight of the bandage on his arm. She returned his thumbs up, then pointed at her arm with a frown. Obviously questioning where his bandage had come from. He'd lived his whole life around dragons, she didn't think he'd make any stupid moves around hatchlings.
