He pulled her into his lap and wrapped his arms around her, leaning his head to rest on the crook of her neck.

She leaned back against hims some, resting her paws on his arm, wrapping her tail around his waist. "I am a warrior too," she said softly. "Keeping you safe is my responsibility as well... and I am also to do what is best for my clan. But wanting to find someone for my first pairing, that... was for me. Among Sholans.... a first pairing can be who ever you are attracted to, if he or she is willing. But my family in particular... we, well, the females of the Adaltan and Hamilton lines, many of us wind up taking out life bonding contracts with the first one we pair with. almost all my great aunts, one of my grandmothers, my mother... I knew it might be thus for me, so...I wanted to make sure whoever my first was... that it would be...special," she said softly. "And still someone... that would be an asset to my clan."

She dropped her jaw in a small smile and leaned against him. "They were taking bets back home, who I would pick. But... I wanted someone different. I would have gone to one of the colony worlds, perhaps... but... The Gods decided this was the best answer. Even if it meant braving the La'quo."

"How soon does this need to happen to protect you?" she asked, concerned. She twisted to face him, worry in her feline-ish eyes. her ears lay halfway back towards her hair. One hand came up and touched his face ever so gently.

He leaned into her touch, "Not immediately. I would like to give you time to become acquainted with the abilities that my people possess. But I cannot last years. So we have some time. I needed you to know though. I did not want it to appear that I was lying to you. And to change you will be painful...I wish it weren't so...but even the strongest of lifemates cannot erase the pain completely."
