A warm happy feeling rose up in Seb then, one that he hadn't felt before. He felt his cheeks grow warm, but oddly found he didn't mind. It was a nice kind of bashfulness.
Now all they had to do was find Lily, and everything would be perfect.

Chane seemed to be having the same thought, "Let's go find that sister of yours~"

"Excellent idea," Seb grinned, and with another nuzzle, he turned back around to continue to lead the way.

Chane kept a little closer to the other stallion after that. He'd sort of assumed that finding Seb's sister would be a simple affair. From the way he'd talked about her it sounded as though he would have a fairly good idea where the mare would be. But hours passed, and they were no closer to discovering even a hoofprint which might belong to Lilly.
It was growing colder again, and Chane had begun to limp.

Seb was starting to grow more and more worried. He hadn't thought Lily would be all that far away either. She hadn't been gone long when Chane came across him after all. But now it was beginning to grow dark, and he was no where near closer to finding her.
Growing anxious, he paced on the spot, looking back and forth. What if she had gone out into the storm to find him and had gotten lost? Or worse? What was he supposed to do now?
"Oh Lily..."

Chane's head hung low, once it had become evident that the search for Lily would take longer than expected he had made a silent vow to stick it out until the pair had been reunited. Now he was beginning to realize that he was going to have to go back on his promise. Even if it only was a promise to himself.
Even if it hadn't been getting colder, a full day of walking was too much for the lame stallion. He would need to rest for days... if he could make it home at all!
He lifted his head. It would have to happen, they'd have to split so Seb could go on searching for Lily while Chane rested. It wasn't easy to admit, especially after knowing the larger male for such a short amount of time, but he really didn't want to lose track of Seb.
"Seb... I need to go..."

Calling Lily's name, Seb didn't hear Chane at first. When he turned to look at the other stallion though, he realized just how much of a toll the search was taking on him.
"Oh, Chane!" he exclaimed, hurrying over to look him over and to offer assistance. "I'm sorry, I didn't think it'd take so long to find her..." He bit his lip. It was getting dark, and cold. He needed to find Lily, but he could also see that Chane was weak, too weak.
"Come on," he said softly, "let's get you home."

"I can make it back on my own," he could at least make it somewhere safe on his own. Making it all the way back to his friends was an exaggeration. "You can keep looking for your sister. Sorry I couldn't help more."

"Don't be sorry," he murmured. "I really appreciated your help."
Green eyes clearly worried, he glanced around them once more. Lily was out there somewhere, and she needed him. And well, he needed her. He didn't know if Chane was telling the truth about being able to make it home on his own though, and he couldn't risk that chance.
"I can start out again in the morning," he said, turning back to Chane. "Lily's smart. I'm sure she's somewhere safe and warm..."

The smaller stallion had to choke back a sigh of relief. He didn't want to admit it but he didn't want to part with his new friend. Seb's presence made him feel safe, heck, he was safer with Seb there. Seb also... well... there was just something about him that made Chane want to stay near him. Talk with him more.
His head spun, "If you're sure." This wasn't the time to start fawning over a near stranger, he scolded himself. "Only if you're sure."

Seb really wasn't sure. He wouldn't be sure of anything until he knew Lily was safe, but he couldn't risk the chance that Chane would get lost or injured too. If he left, then he'd only be worrying about both of them. He didn't want Chane in danger anymore than Lily.
"Yeah, I'm sure," he said to Chane however, nodding. "Lead the way."

"Thank you..." Chane turned, stepping in the deeper snow only to double back on the path they'd already made. Now that Seb was behind him, the smaller stallion's limp was obvious. As he walked, he scanned the tree line, looking for a willow. He hadn't noticed one on the way out, so hoping to spot one now was a bit of a long shot.

Seb followed after him, wincing as he noticed the pronounced limp. He wanted to offer himself to Chane to lean against again, but he was worried the smaller stallion would be insulted by it.
Still, it pained him to watch him struggle. So he scooted his way up behind and around Chane, using the narrow path as an excuse to press his side up against him and silently offer help.

Chane accepted the help, quietly and without complaint. It would be a long walk back home, but somehow the larger stallion's warmth pressed up against him reassured him that everything was going to be all right.
