"Tried that three times, actually. First time he said he wouldn't believe me unless I actually had the bacon ready, second time I had the bacon ready, but he just stole it when my guard was down and burnt the homework anyway, and the third and last time I tried that, he made sure there was a loophole in the agreement that would let him use a lighter," Zero replied dryly.
"After that, he decided to go with the old saying: 'Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me three times, and I should really start questioning my intelligence'," Icarus piped up helpfully, working on his homework.
Zero gave Icarus an irritated look. "You made that third part up, didn't you?"
Icarus beamed back. "Yep - came up with it right after I fooled you the third time." He then turned back to Katie. "Anyway, now he just goes with the power-suppression option since he knows it's the only surefire way to stop me from burning my homework."

"Hmm... the idea does have merit..." Zero mused... only for two tiny columns of smoke to appear on the back of his head, a light sizzling sound accompanying them; the source was fairly obvious, since Icarus was glaring rather fiercely at his brother.
"Try it, and I'll practice my fireball accuracy with your crotch as the target," the phoenix-esque boy informed his brother flatly.
"Duly noted," Zero replied a little nervously.
Satisfied that his brother wouldn't go through with that idea anytime soon, Icarus turned and resumed his homework.

"No, that idea is a horrible idea since it's a low blow - as in a groin-level low blow!" Icarus objected, though he did calm down a little at Katie's touch. Grinning impishly, he leaned over and kissed Katie.

"That's probably them now, actually," Zero noted as he heard a car pull into the driveway.
Sure enough, a red-haired, blue-eyed man entered the house, shortly followed by a white-haired, golden-eyed, drop-dead gorgeous woman. The man was the first to notice they had a guest, however, and quirked one eyebrow. "Oh? Who's your friend, Icarus?" he asked, obviously choosing to momentarily ignore the fact that said 'friend' was all but in Icarus's lap.
Icarus smiled to his dad, albeit a little nervously. "Katie, this is my mom, Elizabeth, and my dad, Daedalus. Mom, dad, this is Katie - she's a mutant, like us," he explained, causing Daedalus's other eyebrow to raise up alongside the first.

Daedalus pursed his lips, obviously considering the question...
Only for whatever decision he was going to make to be overrun by that of his wife. "I don't see why not. Just make sure to have him back by ten, all right?" Elizabeth told Katie with a smile.
"And if you decide to do any 'adult activities', make sure to use protection," Daedalus added, only for his wife to smack him upside the head while Icarus went wide-eyed and blushed, Zero snickering at the look on his brother's face.

Now it was Elizabeth's turn to speak, smiling faintly at the younger girl as she said, "No, I think I have it covered. Just two things to keep in mind concerning Icarus: never let him cook, and he's durable, so feel free to hit him if he gets out of line or does anything stupid," she joked with a warm smile before heading to the kitchen, calling over her shoulder, "On that note, I insist you stay over for dinner, and I'm not taking no for an answer, young lady!" before starting to cook.

"I know... she gives it to everyone," Icarus wept comically.
"Stop doing stupid things, and I'll stop giving your more sensible friends permission to smack you for them!" Elizabeth called back, apparently having heard that little comment.
"...Yes mum..." Cue snickers from Zero's direction.

"Certainly - Daedalus can sprout wings from his back and fire energy bolts, and I can turn into a dragon," Elizabeth explained with a small smile as they all sat down to eat.
