Well that was strange. Ronan just stared at Dashner's hasty appology, and frowned more at his remark to Doriana. What a bizarre thing to say. He shrugged and returned his attention to the other Selkie.
"Good morning." He nodded again, closing his locker as he put the last of his books into his bag. "Listen, I have a busy day. If you intend to tell me all about what an abomination I am, can we get it over and done with so I can go to class?" He was about to say more when he heard Glen's yelling and the crash of a large minotaur hitting the floor. "What the...?" He was utterly distracted from his spat with Doriana as he heard what Glen had to say. The freakshow!? Of all things to join, what self respecting monster would agree to being a sideshow freak!???

"Kai?" Draconia repeated. "Kai MERHA? Joined the circus? The FREAK SHOW?!!!" Every bullet point she repeated made her eyes grow wider and wider. Draconia knew Kai well. In fact, she was the first monster he'd met, the one who'd told him about Monster High in the first place.
"I know he used to be a normie, but really, some monster should tell him how utterly insane signing up for a freak show is. Have you talked to his father?"

Just as Marceline opened her mouth to reply, he overheard both Glen and Draconia wigging out. He turned around and overheard them talking about Kai.. Joining a CIRCUS?!!
"Kai Merha did WHAT?!?!"
Dashner blinked. It couldn't be true. First, Lin, then Nero, and now Kai?! Is this a sudden trend that he was not aware of? Who would be next?
He shook his head has he walked back up to Ronan. He looked at his dormmate with concern. "Please tell me this is all a dream..."

Ronan shook his head. "I do not believe that is the case Dashner. " He frowned deeply, for the moment forgetting his annoyance with Doriana. "What self respecting monster volunteers themselves as a freak?" He shook his head, he couldn't comprehend that part. Besides, Kai seemed cripplingly indecisive, how did someone who couldn't even decide which card to play or what drink to have make a decision to join the circus so readily? Now things were starting to get strange. "last I saw him he was running to speak to his friend.. uh.. tall, blue... " He shrugged, couldn't remember the name. "Do you think he's been coerced?" He still refused to believe someone joined a freak show voluntarily, especially not if it meant leaving school to do so. That troubled him far more than the circus itself. A kid wanting to be a clown was one thing, but a freak?

Glen looked back at Ronan and Dashner and nodded emphatically."I know, right!? My bluddy Kai is unique as they come and a great pal, but he is NOT a FREAK!"Glen turned around to Draconia and sighed."Drakie, what are we going to do? Lin was one thing. His family is in the biz. But Nero and now Kai? Is this like, the new thing? Should we join the circus too? I don't want to be a, you know... square."He reached up and gave his scalp an idle scratch."I haven't been able to get in touch with Kai's pop. He left with the little missus on a trip or a convention or something. The only thing I can think of doing is going through Octavia to try and get in touch. I'm going to contact Aunty Circe tonight. She used to know her pop so maybe that'll work. I..."The tell-tale sound of sirens in the distance cut Glen off and he sliiiiid up next to his best ghoul and whispered..."Can we go inside? I kinda had to make a few short cuts to get here to talk to you on time."

The school bell rang, and all of the student bodies started to filter inside. Draconia gritted her teeth. There was so much more to talk about!
"We'll talk more at lunch!" She called out to Glen before a zombie mob swept her away towards first period.

Vinnie Lovecraft Vinnie and Hellene followed the aloof monster toward the exit, and Vinnie couldn't help but feel like she had seen this monster before. She half-listened to Hellene's chatter as her Moancy Boo skills of deduction went wild... she hadn't been to school yet, so that's not it... the wreckord store? Maybe... Then it hit her. The Hextended Family basement show last month... there were maybe 12 people there, and he was one of them; standing against the back wall looking positively bored, but his tapping foot betrayed him.
They had reached what Gryff had claimed was the exit: A rusted ladder that rose over their heads to a tiny blink of light high above them. Vinnie stretched her wings, deciding to fly up instead of chancing the precariousness of the ladder. "Hey, thanks man." She smiled at Gryff. "I'll see you at the next Hextended Family show." And with that, she fluttered up to the trapdoor in the ceiling....
"Ahem." A stern voice came from behind her, followed by a fearsome whinny from Nightmare. Vinnie winced... busted! That Gryff was gonna get it for this...

It had been a frantic rush to get to school after she unceremoniously slept in and missed her alarm. She feared she wasn't going to make it before the bell rang and so she rushed from home, taking the carriage to school at a breakneck pace, without even eating breakfast. Oh this was terrible.
She was still fairly new to Monster High and already she was running late. What sort of first impression would that leave? "Daddy will kill me if I screw up in school..." She murmured hastily to herself as she practically leapt from the carriage as soon as it landed outside of the school, dashing up the stairs to get inside before it was too late, shooting off random apologies to other students she almost bowled over in her haste.

Batilda was not doing good in the flood of students swarming through the hall. While she had enjoyed school for her classes, she'd never been a fan of crowds and was quite claustrophobic. She pulled her hood over her head and scanned her eyes over her schedule. The bell rang. She had Dead Languages- a subject she liked well enough. Batilda slid around people until she found her classroom, and collected herself in the back of the classroom.

The bell distracted everyone from their morning gossip, at least temporarily. As Ronan found a seat toward the back of the class. Dead Languages was a subject he was decent enough at, but this morning he wasn't really feeling up to paying close attention. He found himself deeply troubled by Kai's departure, though he barely knew the boo it just seemed so wrong for him to run off to the circus on a whim. But then what did he know? Still, he wouldn't be caught dead joining some freak show.
This thought only served to remind him of his spat with Doriana and he groaned inwardly.
He wasn't sure what was going on with that girl, but quite frankly he wasn't prepared to weather another storm of prejudice from her. Why did she keep speaking to him anyway? He didn't much want to fight with her, but he also didn't particularly care for yet more half breed propaganda. It never occurred to him that she might just want to talk.
The class was abuzz with chatter, he caught snippets here and there. Some were talking about the sudden circus trend, others about some ghoul named Howleen. He shook his head and pulled his books out, setting everything he needed on his desk while they all waited for the teacher to appear.

Meme sat at the back of the classroom with her elbows on the desk and her head in her hands. "Ugh.." She groaned, tired and restless. The class was alive with chatter of homework, conversations about latest fall fashions from Scarisian runways, but mostly gossip about another monster running away to this magical circus that had appeared in the town.
"Maybe she's got something to do with it! The clown one; she's got that creepy vibe about her.. And I saw her at the Coffin Bean with Kai and Nero!" A small fur covered monster with glowing red eyes whispered to her friends at the adjacent set of desks. Meme glowered in their direction and hissed "Shuttup, or you're next!" The furred girl shrieked and ran out the room just before the teacher entered.
Meme rubbed her eyes and began taking notes. She'd spent the night tossing and turning, something terrible whispering in her ears when she eventually fell to sleep that repeatedly woke her up with a start. Some other ghastly thing was happening in the halls of Monster High, and something equally as sinister was lurking at it's borders.

"Hey." Atomica Servo sashayed into the classroom and came to a heavy stop in front of Meme Pennywise's desk. "HEY!"
Atomica's ice-blue LED eyes bored into Meme's. "Like, everyone in the school is saying that you're the one convincing everyone how totally great the circus is. Well KNOCK IT OFF! The circus is SO not great! It's stinky! And covered in sawdust! And lame! And....uh....stinky!"
There, that showed her! Atomica gave her a prissy little nod. Served that ghoul right for using her clowny wiles to trick Lin into leaving school. Atomica paused and thought of one more parting shot at Meme.
"In fact, if the circus is sooooooo great, why don't you go back there and leave us all alone!"
That ought to show her! Atomica sat down in her seat feeling much better. Now that she'd single-handedly solved the Problem Of The Circus Recruiter, she could tackle her studies with a much clearer conscience.

Meme clenched her jaw as the sassy automaton confirmed her worries; everyone thought she was behind the mysterious transfer to the circus! She was angry at the students for believing such ridiculous gossip, but could understand they were worried for their friend's sudden change of hearts.
"Maybe you should just join the circus.." Something whispered in her ear.
"IT WASN'T ME!" Meme screamed when a furious rage bubbled up inside her. She stood up so quickly that her seat was kicked, screeching across the floor. She pointed a finger across the room at the shiny bot. "Watch your mouth, bolt-brains!" Meme dug around in her fanny-pack and produced several small orbs. She threw the smoke bombs down on the ground

Hiding in the clouds of colourful thick smoke she ran from the classroom and into the hallway.

It was the end of an exhausting school day. So many strange things were happening at Monster High it was overwhelming! The afternoon went by in a blur for most of the student bodies, as strange and sinister forces tried to exert their will over the school and ultimately failed in the face of courage and friendship.
And at the end of the day, the students celebrated! They celebrated friendship and flaws, equality and differences, love and lurking. Even the smallest and the least popular have their moment, and every monster was happy for that.
Even at the very end of the school day there were surprises, with the student bodies discovering that there would be two more among their number now...Gigi Grant and none other than Catty Noir herself! The news electrified all of the students, and as they went home after a long and uhhhn-believable day, they prepared for tomorrow, knowing that even more incredible things were sure to happen in the halls of Monster High!
