Etasha and Coryxoth - Escaping

And... that was all that Coryxoth could safely take. He might have been able to lift off with four, but without his riding straps, she couldn't safely secure any of them to his neck. Even three was risky - probably needlessly risky under any circumstances other than these. Etasha managed a brief smile for Xanha as she clasped the other woman's arm tightly. "Yeah. We're going home."

Coryxoth reared back carefully, balanced on his hindlegs like a Lord Holder's prized runnerbeast. Then he launched into the air, pushing off with his haunches at the same time that his wings swept downward. Just as he left contact with the ground, just before he would have struck ceiling, he blinked between in response to Etasha's mental image of Trine's weyrbowl.

Vinath - screaming in out of nowhere

Almost no sooner than Coryxoth was gone, there was the arrival of another dragon, this one a dappled blue. He crashed gracelessly into the ground, no regard for personal safety as the dragon screamed, eyes whirling ferocious red-orange as he cast around the arena. There was no room for maneuvering, no room for really anything and the older, portly blue thrashed around, making room for Malcarreth and his cargo even as he snarled and screeched, twisting his head around and focusing on the green wher.

Scum! he snarled, baring his teeth, lowering his head and hissing menacingly. Filth! You'll pay for what you did! There was no mistaking the rattling of the sounds coming from Vinath's chest; had the blue thought to chew firestone before his arrival, there would be a scorched spot where the green had been. As it were, his talons gouged the ground beneath him, and he swung his head around, focusing on V'lay and F'itz - a rider His seemed to remember. In most circumstances, Vinath wouldn't have deigned to take another rider, but given the circumstances, he would make an exception.

V'lay! V'lay come here now!

F'itz

Getting the door to budge wasn't going as well as he'd hoped, his arms felt weak now as much as heavy. V'lay's sudden cry caught him off guard and he turned to the blue rider with a startled, dazed expression. V'lay at least was about his own age, might understand that this was... this was just what should be done. "Have to get them out," he replied, yanking at D'lin's door again. He was feeling faintly giddy now, a little unreal.

The wher's snarls were real enough. F'itz wheeled around to see the beast, heart racing faster than ever. "Smaller than the last one," he muttered vaguely as he recalled the size of the gold down in the depths. Unarmed, injured, weak from hunger; what chance did any of them stand against the wherholders? Some of the others were already with the dragons, so perhaps a few at lest would escape with their lives. One, two, three onto the black and it was gone. Three prisoners heading to the blue as well, one already aboard and-

"Vinath...." V'lay's dragon was here. F'itz looked at the other Benden rider, at his dragon, at the door and then back to V'lay. "I should help the others. Get the wingleader out at least." D'lin was more valuable to the Weyr than anyone else here so he should be the priority, shouldn't he? Brumath disagreed strongly in the back of his mind but he did his best to ignore the brown, who was strongly biased in this matter.

The seemingly senior of the two women gave a piercing whistle that rose and then dipped, it must have been some kind of signal to the other wherholder for the girl with the club peeled off to charge at the newly arrived blue. Teeth bared she swung her club around in a vicious arc, hoping to strike anywhere that could cripple him and prevent his escape.

The woman with the blade meanwhile made for C'tis. If she killed him then his dragon died, dragging anyone in the harness between to their death.

As she lashed out with her blade her wher surged past her towards the two men standing together, men she vaguely recognized. Traitors! They would die, yes, and she would eat them up. Snarling savagely she sprang at the younger of the two, jaws gaping wide.

With Rochelle up on Malcarreth's back it was tempting to just take off and escape but he didn't want to leave Siata, or the bronze riding guy apparently on the side of the girl who was planning a better way of life. Naturally things abruptly got worse, because life hated him or something. Two women and a wher, and one of them had it in for him. C'tis swore, trying to get back out of the way but his reactions were slow and his movements more than a little clumsy. The woman's knife tore down his torso, tearing a bellow of pain and rage from his lips and an answering cry from Malcarreth.

Riposting with a stab of his own C'tis didn't have time or attention to spare for checking up on Siata and bronze boy but Malcarreth would take care of it, and then Malcarreth would get them all out of here.

Malcarreth called to Siata and S'dekai, eyes blazing and teeth bared in a snarl of impotent rage. not help him! Do I make myself completely clear to you?> C'tis could hold out a little while but speed was of the essence, added to which the sooner he left the sooner another dragon could jump in to save more of the captives.

S’dekai – Boarding

Siata’s slightly delirious ramblings were enough to get a hollow chuckle out of S’dekai. “He absolutely said fanny; I imagine you’re not going to let him forget it. I’ll back you up if he denies it. But how about we wait on that dinner until we get you home?”

He glanced back over his shoulder, and instantly regretted it. The black dragon was gone, a new blue arrived in his place, and the wher and the women were attacking those who had been too slow... His stomach knotted. He needed to get out, he wanted to go home so badly but home wasn’t home anymore –

Pioth. Pioth and Kiril and the map. He would get the map, he would go to Natai, and she would know what to do. The other weyrs might not like it, but Natai at least always knew what to do.

Malcarreth’s furious voice blazed in his head, and S’dekai – ashen under his tanned skin and in no shape to fight – ducked his head in acknowledgement. “No arguments here.” He let Siata lean against the blue’s shoulder while he scrambled up first. (Faranth, he felt like a rank amateur, clambering awkwardly up into the harness like a Candidate boarding a searchdragon for the first time.) Then, once he was securely in place, he hauled her up after him. His bad leg screamed protest at him the whole way, shooting little white-hot lines of pain up from hip to shoulder. But if he couldn't get the woman aboard...

Rochelle - Freaking Out

If not for S'dekai shifting up onto the blue, Rochelle might not have looked away from a highly agitated Vinath. His screams, and the blacks delicate jump between kept her from noticing the two women and their wher. She glanced at Siata and the strange man, settled in the furthest back seat on Malcarreth's harness. The only thing she could do was lock in and try to keep her clothing in place.

And if not for S'dekai, she'd have jumped from the large dragons back at C'tis' first yell. Her head snapped up, eyes wide, and the glasscrafter tried to scramble over anyway. He got in her way. The shaffing bronzerider and the wherhandler scaling the dragon got in her way!

"Move! C'tis, get your a** up here!"

-----

Siata - Boarding

"Good. Remind me he said it just in case this fever gets worse. And don't let Siask kill anyone if I die, my brother said he'd take him and he's ugly but he's a good wher," siata continued to ramble even with Malcarreth's yell in her brain. She winced, but only once, much too used to bloodthirsty rage in her brain to much care. All the blue got in response was a fever-glazed stare before Siata climbed after S'dekai.

Stars exploded in front of her eyes, pain so deep she almost didn't feel it. Almost. She gasped at the sudden sharp yank, arms up, pulling bandages, grating fleshto crude cloth. What managed to heal tore again, inflamed red seams under her bandages ripping free from one another.

"Bugger all the things," she managed to hiss, collapsing in a graceless heap in front of the young man. Rochelle yelled and Siata reached around blindly to shove her back into place. "Shut. Up, Freckles." She reminded Siata of the hysterical young healer and, indeed, rochelle sat back at the reminder - and rough push of a hand made harsh from lack of coordination and half twisted, nearly gone frame.

Tears of pain burned her eyes, leaving smudges in their wake when Siata slumped over, barely concious, and tried not to fall.

The wherhandler hissed as her enemy's blade caught her side, it wasn't a deep wound but it hurt like all shards and bled freely. "You'll pay for that with your life, Trine scum!" she snapped, trying to drive her blade into C'tis chest.

HP: 15/30
Defence: 1d4+2 (-1 from injury)
Damage taken: 1

C'tis would have replied to Rochelle, only somebody was trying to stab him in the chest and that sort of thing tended to grab your attention. Taking a swift step back he moved his own knife to intercept the blow, deflecting it away from his chest and taking just a nick to his side instead. Getting out of here just about now would be really lovely!

-------

Malcarreth - Fleeing

As soon as he saw the straps fasten around Siata and S'dekai Malcarreth lunged for his rider, grabbing him in one forefoot and leaping into the air. Less adept than a black at betweening and still inexperienced he wasn't as quick to escape the confined environment as he might have been; his left wing smacked against the wall painfully. Pushing the pain aside the blue redoubled his grip on his rider, grabbed the offered image of home from his mind, and disappeared.

Dizzian and Courath

Dizzian and Courath had stayed out of the direct combat and missions, instead doing what they could at home to help prepare and care for those riders who were. Especially for those dragons who had returned without their riders in tow. Both rider and dragon differed on what they thought they could do to be most helpful, Dizzian's anxieties were often at war with Courath's confident bravery, but on this last request they were both in agreement. Readily they agreed to be transport for the rescued Trine captives.

Courath had been fitted with extra straps as they waited for their cue as part of the second wave of dragons. Taking the image prepared Courath leapt into the air the moment Malcarreth returned.

Dizzian was shocked by the scene they faced. Let's go mine, be quick! Courath managed to find a clear space to land and bugled, reaching her mind to the Trine captives. Hurry! We'll get you home! She knelt, yellow eyes alert, as Dizzian slid down her shoulder to help people up.

Accuracy: -3

"Suit yourself, brownrider."

It was all V'lay could say before the wher was on him, and this time, the bluerider wasn't going to give anyone the chance to bring him down. He stumbled out of the way, catching a talon on his arm in a way that made his dragon shriek rage, but V'lay wasn't thinking. He turned, sprinted headlong for his dragon, stumbling over his own feet, but at this point it didn't matter. V'lay was getting out.

Vinath - leaving

V'LAY!

The blue's scream in his rider's head was nearly deafening, and V'lay stumbled as he reached the blue, hitting his side hard, barely aware of the woman who had gone in to attack his dragon. The blue was snarling at her, but there was nothing he could do. Get on get on get on! Vinath snapped, roaring ferociously at the wherholder woman as his rider scrabbled half-heartedly onto his back. He missed a purchase for a moment, slipping, but Vinath shrugged his shoulder, unbalancing V'lay over his neck.

"Vinath - we should wait - there's people -"

I don't care! It was a snap, flat, barely-acknowledging V'lay's protests, and the dragon threw himself into the air as soon as his rider was aboard, blinking between immediately. Back to Trine, for now. Back to freedom.

Rynsemth - coming in
16 + 5 = 21 - Perfect landing

Rynsemth bubbled glee as he surged into action, flinging off into the air and then the cold of between. His rider, Wen needed him and he would be the one to rescue his. The black blinked into appearance, wings flared as he landed and rumbled, eyes whirling as he looked for his.

Wen replied, peeling off and heading towards his dragon, spellbonded.

Rynsemth moved, ignoring the battle for a moment to firmly butt his head against his Wen, tiny and perfected and his and they would pay for taking his person. The black vowed it.
