Alexis inhaled deeply before spitting out a small blast of dusty water as he exhaled. "I guess I had a dusty frog in my throat," he said with a chuckle as the dust was almost finished settling.

Watching the small cloud of dusty water coming from Alexis' mouth Aoi sighed, hoping that was all of what had been inhaled. She then looked at where that water shere had jetted off to and she looked to Alexis asking, after he was finished speaking of course, "So you're going to be all right and how on earth did that happen? I know about the water orb and all that, but did you...? I mean if you did that's completely all right... I was just checking..." She had not seen anyone do something like that, though that was because she was sheltered from anything that seemed like it could be magic or something like that. She couldn't do anything like that and in a way envyed those who could, but it also made her respect them more.{{ooc: Sorry I didn't reply right away... My head is throbbing and I'm not really able to think clearly right at the moment... >.<}}

_Hoshiyuri_ OOC - It's okay; I know what bad headaches are like. Alexis tilted his head. "I just pushed a bit of energy through my body into my hand... the water kinda responded," he said as he held his hand up in front of him as a faint flickering 'flame' swirled around his fingertips as the water condensed as if drawn to the area between his fingers almost like iron fragments drawn to a magnet. "I'm not all that sure how I'm doing it, to be honest," he said as he flicked his hand, the sphere shooting at the coral and blasting the last of what was around the base of the staff away, revealing an ornate gold and pearl head that looked like an open dragon's mouth with sapphire embracing a sphere that was a deep garnet red color. He swam towards it, looking at it curiously; he had never seen anything like this and wondered if Aoi had seen it before; he noticed that some of the symbols on the staff were the same as the symbols of the odd pearl-rocks that weren't too far away. Perhaps there's some sort of connection, he thought.

Tilting her head out of curiosity, Aoi looked at Alexis' hand as he spoke and the water condensed around his fingers. She hadn't seen anything like that before, though she had heard about such things, however, hadn't believed that they were entirely true before that moment. "I don't either... though there could be other merfolk that may know more about that. Oh, and Atlantis too, but I'd have to check with some of the merfolk that I met while I was running away from home. All of whom are very safe and reliable people, I assure you. They'd not turn me in if I'm going to be killed if I go home and I can imagine that they'd help anyone who said they're my friends too." she said, then explained that there were a couple families (more or less the children of the families) who had helped her get away from what could have happened to her if she'd have gone home and that they didn't understand why going to the surface was such a bad thing, though they were a bit on the rebellious side, yet not entirely so.
After she finished speaking she looked to where Alexis had knocked away the last of the coral that was covering the base of the staff. Seeing the ornate gold and pearl object she swam over to it and goggled at it slightly; she'd always had a weakness for shiny things. Her hand had reached out to touch it, though she yanked her hand back not knowing what may happen if she'd touch it, especially after seeing those symbols on the door and how the door opened like it did.{{ooc:}}

_Hoshiyuri_ OOC - Sorry I haven't replied; family vacation, and the computer at home is screwing up... gonk Alexis tilted his head as he swam up next to Aoi. "I wonder what this is... and who left it behind... somehow I get the sense that just leaving it here may be more dangerous than taking it with us... and if they were going to kill you for exploring, then they need to pull their heads out of their respective asses and realize that knowing the surrounding ocean could end up saving them when they least expect it," he said with a small chuckle, seeing the interested gleam in Aoi's eyes. "I don't think it'll do anything if you touch it, honey," he said with amusement, teasing her a bit. He wasn't going to yet reveal that he had seen a diver find the outer pearl-stone trigger, yet the entrance nor the pearl had reacted to the diver's bare hand. What if it somehow picks up on genetic markers in one's touch which makes it react? he thought, unknowingly correct in the idea.

Aoi was still a bit mesmerized by the golden object as she heard Alexis speaking, though she heard everything that was said to her. Pulling her attention from the object and turning it to Alexis, Aoi said, "I don't know if I would take it... Well... it is shiny and I do fancy shiny things even if they are worthless, though this may be useful..." She then went on about how Alexis was probably right about exploring and how it could have potentially helped to know about the raids on her village before it even happened. She told him that those in her village barely even left their homes, let alone went to the surface. It was also mentioned that the folks in her village thought that going to the surface would bring only death and suffering if you returned. Yet she said that it was probably only to those who actually went to the surface, seeing as nothing bad had ever even happened after anyone went to the surface; unless you counted those who were punished.{{ooc:}}

Alexis shrugged. "Many assume what they don't know because it would upset what most think to be the status quo... in my experience that kind of thinking makes things far too boring," he said as he shifted, glancing to the side before he noticed a flicker of dark gray and black that he knew immediately wasn't a shark, but something else. He unconsciously shifted his weight, grabbing the staff and twisting as he unconsciously spun it, deflecting what seemed to be darts of some kind as what seemed to be humanoid sharks that looked faintly similar to Aoi in that they had humanoid torsos and more 'fishy' parts in place of legs.

Aoi nodded and said, “My father and a lot of the older members of my village, the village council to be precise, think that way… They just don’t like things to be disturbed and think that everything will go all topsy-turvy if someone does something out of order…” She turned her gaze to the golden figurine again and she placed her hand on it just as she caught a glimpse of Alexis grabbing the staff. She wasn’t really paying much mind to that, although when she turned around to see just what Alexis was doing her eyes widened huge with fear and she eyed up the beings that were very shark-like. She mumbled to herself before saying, “I think they’re here for me…” her voice was very weak and unsure, and her words were directed to Alexis. She wasn't sure how anyone could have actually been after her since she had been hiding fairly well, although she thought back to the one family that their behavior had been more on the 'fishy' side and thought that they may have been trying to turn her in for the reward money and would sink low enough to hire shark men to do the job.{{ooc: Had to edit something and btw, it's all right and I understand the computer issue smile }}

Alexis' eyes narrowed slightly, tightening on the haft of the staff. "The only thing they're getting... is a beating for trying to attack and threaten us," he said, his voice shifting from casual and mild to hard and icy as he paused. As he spoke, he thrust the staff hard forward squarely into the gut of the nearest shark-man. He was mildly surprised to see the creature tumble backwards at high speed several times, reacting much like a bowling ball into a pair of its buddies. He spotted a blur out of the corner of his eye and heard a hacking as he shifted the staff backwards, slamming it square across the throat and upper chest of a feisty shark-man that had tried to charge at Aoi when his back was turned. "Oops, did that hurt?" he said coolly as the the shark-man hacked and coughed up a bloom of dark blue blood. He felt one of the shark-men go to disarm him of the staff and was very surprised when a loud crackling hiss sounded as an arcing burst of electricity surged from the staff up the creature's arm and slammed into his chest, leaving him twitching with one arm outstretched. "Let's get out of here while we can, maybe find a few of those friends of yours," he said to Aoi as he started swimming, well aware that the hacking shark-man would attract other sharks, which he had no intention of seeing or encountering.

Aoi was terrified of the shark men and she was not sure that there was anything that she'd be able to do to them, though she soon saw that she probably wouldn't need to as Alexis started bashing them. She cringed and wrinkled her nose as blood from the shark men started clouding the water. She heard Alexis say something about finding her some of her friends and she nodded, though she wasn't sure which of her 'friends' had sent those shark men after her, if any at all. Instead of sticking around Aoi darted after Alexis, but she did not pass him nor did she fall behind.{{ooc: I have to get going soon, though I may be able to post once again before leaving. if not I'll have to get to replying as soon as I can, since I may not be on the next few days, unfortunately. confused }}

_Hoshiyuri_ OOC - I understand; I won't be on at all Thursday; helping with a church function that day (field trip to NC Zoo). Alexis tilted his head, glancing at Aoi from the corner of his eye. "I wouldn't worry too much; if most of your friends are anything like you, then it means that if any of them did this or had a hand in it, then they were intimidated into doing so. It wouldn't surprise me if this council hoped that it would scare you back into their 'generously waiting' hands," he said carefully, fairly sure that Aoi would notice the sarcasm, since he didn't trust politicians or anyone like them... they annoyed him for some reason he couldn't explain.

Aoi swam right along side Alexis and listened to him as he spoke. She figured that he was probably right, though she was still a bit suspisious of the one family that she had met while she was trying to keep from being caught and taken home. "I guess that you're right. I mean most of them were nice to me, though I thought that one family was about to turn me in, but they never did. I guess they couldn't see me being killed over something petty like just being curious and going to the surface." She sighed as she thought about what Alexis had said about the people being intimidated into turning her in if they were in fact involved and she said that was probably it, seeing as she knew that there were very few merfolk that liked the shark people. Though she mentioned something about maybe that's why they act the way they do because she would imagine that would make anyone angry; being ignored and shunned by everyone else.{{ooc:}}

_Hoshiyuri_ OOC - Trip was cancelled due to heavy thunderstorms... :XP: Alexis tilted his head. "Probably, though I don't condone the idea of kidnapping and possibly raping someone for being 'shunned' by others; if anything, that would make the situation worse if it didn't lead to war, I would think," he said with a shrug.

"I know what you mean, though they have always been trouble from what my father and the elders have said, yet I haven't really trusted what they have said. I think that they just want everything to be their way, that or it could be the quarreling between dolphins and sharks that make them distrust one another. What it is I don't know, though I just don't want to end up caught by them again... I could fight back this time, but I just don't want to have to fight them." she said as she calmed down as the distance between her and the shark men grew. She didn't want to hate them, though what had almost happened to her when she was a child made her terrified of them.
She told Alexis that she did not believe that a war would start, though there had been many a time that she thought there would have been one; especially after her village was raided and her father lost everything. She started to softly hum a lullaby that her mother sang to her when she was a child and that helped to ease her shaken nerves; all while she swam floating upside-down.{{ooc: That stinks sad Maybe they'll reschedule it?}}

_Hoshiyuri_ OOC - Perhaps, I don't know. Alexis looked up at the surface of the sea high above them; he had never gone this far away from 'his' little cavern complex before, so he wasn't quite familiar with where they were at that moment. "You probably know where we are better than I do; I tended to stay within a certain distance of my cavern set-up, and this area I don't recognize," he said, admitting his own shortcoming.
