Saria had noticed the odd circles on Daemon's face, and now she looked up at the man thoughtfully.

"Why do you wear those if they're not dark to block the sun, Daemon?" she asked curiously. "Wouldn't things look just the same through them because they're clear?"

"There are special lenses in the glass," Daemon explained, "I can't see well, only things that are very close to my face are clear, so I need these to see clearly."

Though he admitted there were people who wore them just for fashion, or to look scary, depending on who you talked to. For some, glasses were a good way to intimidate others.

"Ooohhhh," Saria said, her tone filled with awe. "I see. I think."

Her parents chuckled softly.

"So where would you like to go?" Pengolodh asked the Gaians with a grin. "Our city is at your fingertips."

"Hmmm....." Daemon actually wasn't sure.

He hadn't given a good thought about it, of course it was Long's idea to go visit the city. So it was no surprise he was the one who came up with the first suggestion.

"The weaponsmith!" Long replied.

Even if it was a very Lau response.

Pengolodh smiled and nodded.

"The weaponsmith it is," he agreed. "Do you enjoy weapons, then? Are you a fighter?"

Perhaps the question was more properly, were you a fighter, but Pengolodh wasn't used to speaking with mortals. And who was he to judge whether a man of Long's apparent age would still be able to fight or not?

Long thought about it, he supposed that was the best way of putting it and nodded, "Well... I was a fighter. Retired... a few years ago."

He had done bodyguarding and security detail for as long as he was physically able to do so. When one said physically abled, it meant for as long as Long could qualify in the physicals, which he had failed a few years back. The life style was not kind to human joints and he was feeling it in his knees.

"Of sorts, I now do advice on fire safety and arson investigations, and... sometimes, rarely, very rarely I teach fire magic," Long added.

Because if he didn't do something he would drive his wife crazy.

"People let you teach fire magic?" Daemon blinked in confusion because he remembered Long's attempts to teach Kara.
"Only when I get permission, which was once," Long replied.

"You seem surprised, Daemon," Pengolodh couldn't help but comment. "Is there a reason he shouldn't teach fire magic?"

Of course, he was used to innate magic rather than learned magic, but he was fully aware that Gaian magic was very different. He knew after all the story behind his own odd gift.

Daemon looked at Long as if to ask if he should tell, or if he should let Long tell. It wasn't that he had anything against his friend, it was just his friend had made some poor choices in students.

Long laughed, which wasn't a surprising (he tended to find a lot of things funny).

"Not all Gaians are suited for fire magic, but in some cases where... instead of it just not working, it works but it's very uncontrollable," Long explained, "And I like sharing, even though I've been warned not to teach particular people, and that often ended in... things other than what you planned on being set on fire."

"Like the curtains," Daemon muttered.

Long gave a wryly grin to Pengolodh, "Kara, Daemon's daughter is much better at illusions than she's at fire... much, much better."

Pengolodh and Alinda laughed, highly amused by the story, but Saria just looked confused. Finally, she tugged on her father's sleeve to get his attention and asked, "What does that mean, Papa?"

Pengolodh chuckled down at his daughter. "It means that Kara, Daemon's daughter, was not very good with fire magic," he grinned. "She apparently put the curtains on fire."

Saria blinked slowly, and a concerned expression crossed her face. "But ... but that's not funny!" she protested, turning back to Long, who had been the first to laugh. "That's dangerous!"

Long protested in a way that made it sound like he was a child being scolded, "I made sure nothing else burned and we put it out quickly!"

Daemon chuckled at Long before assuring Saira, "At the time, it wasn't funny but my daughter is now a grown woman with children of her own, so we can look back on that and chuckle since no one got hurt."

Which was the only reason why he could laugh, that and seeing his wife chase Long around their house had been an amusing aftermath.

Saria's worry erased itself from her face and she allowed herself a relieved smile. "Oh, good," she murmured. "So she doesn't do that anymore, then."

Pengolodh chuckled softly and ruffled his daughter's hair. "It would appear not. But come, we're nearly to the smithy. Saria, remember to stay close and don't touch anything in there, right?"

Saria nodded sagely. "I promise," she vowed solemnly.

Long smiled at that, noting how Saria took that seriously.

"Is that it up ahead?" Daemon asked nodding at one shop they were coming to.

Pengolodh smiled and nodded. "Yes. This smith works with metal weapons, so ... mostly blades. Sword, axes, spearheads. There's another down the street that works with wood, and he makes bows and staffs and actual spears."

"Papa says someday I will learn to use a sword," Saria spoke up, looking up at Daemon and Long, "but I don't know if I want to." She pouted in the innocent way that only a young child could do.

Long chuckled at that, "It's always good to know a bit of martial arts and at least one blade."

It wasn't a surprise he would feel like that, he had grown up doing both, so had his son and so had at least one of his grandchildren. Just like his father had and his grandfather, it was... to him a tradition. One he understood very well.

Saria blinked. "Martial ... arts?" she repeated curiously.

Pengolodh smiled and opened the door of the shop, holding it open for the others to enter first. "Hand to hand, I believe," he replied. He looked to Long for confirmation. "Is that correct?"
