He edged further along, each step tentative, each step taken with an inordinate amount of faith, Ren's teeth clenched together so tightly that he almost couldn't breathe properly.

But... Jove really was with him! The pup had watched as the others wandered around in the dark, and then fidgeted nervously as Ren started across the deep abyss... Why were they doing this again? He was worried, being beaten up by a monster wasn't as scary as watching his brother slowly inch across... He had seen friends fall before, he didn't want to see his brother go that way. And then suddenly his ghostly heart leapt up into his throat as he saw Ren misstep. It was only a little bit, and the gryphon probably hadn't even realized it yet, but it just didn't feel right. Jove leaped towards his brother, spreading out a multitude of ghostly tendrils to feel for the correct path forward... And then he caught an invisible ledge. With a triumphant snort he shoved Ren across, but at the very last second, his own grip began to slip. As the pup fell into darkness he closed his eyes, and remembered there was a piece of him that had fallen before, just like this. And he knew it would be okay. Quote: Using Ability!Life Hunters/ Undead/ Famine Horsemen: If the GM (of this event) rolls even, you may assist them by giving them a boost, sacrificing their misstep as they step on YOU instead. You will fall into the void but at least you helped save them... (You can only use this once obviously, and once you have, you are ejected from the thread, rather forcefully a you fall into infinity). You can +1 tile for doing this at least.

He felt, rather than saw, the push at his back, and suddenly he was staggering forward with a small gasp, Ren's wings flapping frantically to keep him on balance. Something - or rather, someone had just kept him from falling, and he had a feeling he knew exactly who that someone had been.
"JOVE!" Ren shrieked, but it was no use. The pup was already gone.
He'll be okay, he told himself frantically, edging another step forward. He'll be okay.
It became a mantra.
He'll be okay.

He missed Jove already, Ren hoping beyond hope the others were all right too because if they died one more time he was going to hate himself for bringing them along more than he already did.

Frost had been silent, an observer for the most part, but he was always present, always there to support as was needed. Jove had been the first to see Ren almost fall- the first to save the damn bird-cat at the cost of himself. As Frost watched Ren stumble again, the wolfos dashed out, pushing Ren forward- And falling. Well, no one could say he hadn't helped. Welp, someone had to do it.
With a sudden rush of energy, Jack just about bounced forward, pushing Ren towards the end of this arduous task, giving him a hollar.
"See you on the flipside, bro!" He barked out cheerfully as he willingly took the fall.
Cats always land on their feet.

It was there, he could see it, just beyond the cracks in the crevice. The cavern was dark and watery and it was difficult to see anything clearly; all there was were vague, watery shapes, shadows stretching out like black spindly fingers towards him. The place was filled with a great deal of things, most of them covered in slimy moss and sea kelp, but he could make out a few shapes here and there; a book, a chair, a shelf...
And there was a chain, half submerged in the murky blue and green water, black and heavy.
With shaking fingers, Ren reached out, touching the links carefully, almost reverently. But then he clenched his teeth, wrapped his fingers around the chain, and pulled it up, out of the cool water, and it felt warm in his grasp, warm and heavy and wonderful.
He slipped it over his shoulder and made to leave, hoping that everyone wouldn't hate him too much for killing them all...twice.
...three times.
He owed everyone a lot of spookies, that was for damn sure.
