"You've gotta be kidding me," Jordan said flatly, looking up at the newly appeared shadowling. Did it even count as a shadowling any more when it was this big? When they defeated this one, would an even bigger one turn up?
I don't like this, Ferros said uneasily.
Yeah, me either. Jordan frowned. The creature wasn't attacking, only standing there almost mildly, not reacting to the attacks being levelled at it. Where were these things coming from? Why had the previous ones been so aggressive, but this huge one so passive? He had no real way of finding out. Frustrating. His hands tightened on Ferros's haft.
They couldn't just leave it alone, and at any rate, it had already been attacked. If it was going to become aggressive, it was being handed plenty of provocation. That being the case, standing here and thinking over questions without obvious answers or lines of inquiry was next to useless. He moved a little further away from Jerry and Roar's deafening bursts of sound, and charged in to bring Ferros around in a powerful arc.

Thinking it was over was, as always, way too ******** good to be true. He wasn't even disappointed, his tired body was somewhere off the edge of endurance in a place where exhaustion didn't even register on the scale. The steadily increasing size and power of the shadowlings only led him to believe they were proving themselves more and more of a threat, that it was stepping up its defences in fear as they whittled away at whatever invading force there was.
That or it was just getting stronger off them. In which case, they were completely ********. But he wasn't actually - on the whole - very great at pessimism.

There was a job to be done and he was pretty ******** happy to do it. Bringing the massive axe around, he brought it down on the staring creature. It didn't even flinch, and for some reason there was something deeply unsettling about the lack of reaction.

Don't question it, just take advantage of the situation, meat-sack. Roar's voice was the clearest he could hear over the din of battle. Hammers and Axes swinging, punctuated by his own weapon's blast.

He was getting winded, and he knew it, firing off another blast before falling back to try to catch his breath.

As suspicious as the creature's lack of attacks was, it was a welcome relief from the overwhelming tide of lesser shadowlings and some time to really flex his muscles and push what he was capable of.
Instead of simple and efficient cleaves he was toying with using the axe embedded in the earth to springboard off of. It staggered him sometimes just how much he was capable of defying gravity with Tracey's help. He had to force himself not to think about the heights even a simple swing sent them both to. Some of the landings the weapon enabled would have left a normal human with no ******** knees left.

"We've seen bigger," Harrison said nonchalantly, flipping B0nez around and preparing to ward off more ankle-biters.
But the hordes backed off, and it was just the big guy.
Who was slower hitter than Rep.
"Guess I don't need to run defense," Harrison muttered, switching up the strategy and aiming low while Rep soared overhead with Tracey looking like one flared, black wing.

Harrison kept the blows light and fast.
He wasn't sure how much of an impact he was having on the viscous shadowy s**t.
Jason's bandages, and the attention to his shoulder, were extremely appreciated. It was good to be on both sides of the moon every now and again.
