The commotion as the hyena began to flee drew Morag's attention and she came trotting from the back, a little smile curling on her face as it was swiftly caught. The firekin were no slouches when it came to hunting... the creature had been a fool to try.

Unfortunately, the pride was not known for its subtlety... and the snapping hyena was unconscious again before they could get any information from it.

"Good work." She said to Roihu. "Now, do your job and fix him up. If we can get him at least conscious again, maybe someone with a more delicate paw can get what we need from him."

The strange accent the hyena had had was worrying... while the Nergui had not thus far been known to use hyenas, accents tended to come from the north and anything that came south brought trouble with it.

"Mmm... if they're stealing medical supplies, maybe they have a pressing need for them. Why else risk invading a pride like ours? They chose a good time at least... it'll be hard to track them through the rain."

Zjarr hesitated as she met Morag coming from where she herself had been headed. She wavered between still going to look in the back wards, or following Morag back to the rest of the group. She decided to slow herself down and prowl quietly. It wouldn't hurt anything to nose about in the dark back there, but there was no need for urgency if Morag herself had just been searching there. So she gave the other lioness a nod before moving past her towards the other chambers.

Roihu's actions were met with a great deal of uproar - and again, he had foolishly let his temper get the better of him. The brute had wounded his half-sister, of course, he had reason to be so angry... but it seemed that everyone was about to start hating on him now. He was that guy. But he took Morag's command, ears back in shame. The ointment in his pouch was definitely watered down, so it wasn't sticking to the red fur very well, and apparently all of the medical supplies from the wards had been stolen... so he would have to make do without it. Not that he wanted to help the disgusting creature. But he had to submit to duty. So he applied what he could to the hyena's face and chest, but that alone wouldn't do much to revive it.

"Eld," he directed to his half-brother, who was clearly now more scornful of him than ever, but he was the one standing closest. "Help me prop it against the wall. If we can ensure it breaths properly, it may come back faster." But the beast had such a strange body, it was difficult to figure out how best to lay it. Someone would need to stay and watch over the thing in case it came too again - but as Morag said, someone with a delicate paw would be best.

Struck across the chest, the hyena snarled in fury. He flailed against the larger lion's confines- but the stress of both the blow and his rage seemed to be too much. He twitched a few times before suddenly falling slack. Completely unconscious, there was no more information left to be learned from the brute.

"Well, that's fantastic," Elcca sighed, rolling her eyes. "Not a single question out of him!"

She grimaced, and then focused on the remains of the medical stock that lay scattered across the room. It was possible they could use some of the remaining roots to try and revive the hyena... but even then there was no guarantee he'd be compliant. "We're missing medical supplies, cubs, and a doctor. Two of those things have a very clear purpose."

Elcca turned. "We could try to revive him. But as we speak they're covering ground. Is it worth the time?"

arrow Well, is it?

If you wish to try and revive the injured hyena, begin collecting some of the scattered roots.

Huozin had hung back, ready to support in the pursuit or questioning of the hyena, but he hadn't want to trip anyone up. That hadn't stopped him from wincing visibly as Roihu conked the creature unconscious in a single blow. As a medic he probably should have known better.

The red lion sighed and began picking up some of the roots scattered across the floor. He wasn't entirely certain what they were all used for, but it was probably best to get them put away properly again.

User ImageWhat was done was done, and Eld saw no need to hold a grudge. He helped Roihu haul the hyena to the wall and try to settle it in a position where its breath sounded less labored. It wasn't the first time he'd helped with a patient in here, but it was the first time he'd tended to such an ugly creature.

"Is there anything you need," he asked, looking around to see if any of the scattered supplies looked familiar. He began gathering the roots and supplies he could find that didn't look completely ruined.

"Yes, some of these roots might help," he answered as he looked around at the tattered remains of some of the medical supplies. But there was still a big group of Firekin growing increasingly antsy around them. Some had already begun to venture deeper into the caverns. Roihu's curiosity was burning to see what else lied ahead, but he knew he had to watch over their captive now. His white eyes glanced around anxiously as he sat with the red beast and listened to its breathing. He hated not only that he had failed and knocked out the hyena, but that he was holding the others back. But it might have some important information, that much was true.

Addressing the majority of the crowd, he said, "Go on, see if there are any others who need help. There's no time to waste!" But he would need some of them to stay with him with the hyena. Not that he couldn't do the healing just fine by himself, but backup would be necessary for several reasons: if it came to, someone else would need to interrogate it; if more came, someone would need to guard them; and he needed a couple others to continue to scavenge for supplies. "But a few of you should stay behind with me to be sure we can cover our tails."

Nkera wasn’t particularly fond of on non-lions and hyenas were no exception, even wounded ones. So it was with an approving expression that he watched Roihu – one of the lions he had fought to gain entrance into the pride – hit the spitting beast with what others might consider to be excessive force. He didn’t even realize the hyena’s value as a source of information until he saw the others’ reactions. He had to hand it to Roihu though. It was something Nkera had learned from experience: the dark lion had one mean punch.

“I thought you were a Medic…” he said, tilting his head to the side in a small and unusual display of humor. His expression closed soon enough and the Guard turned his back on the group slowly to face the darkness outside, green eyes searching the horizon for more intruders. “Maybe we should head out. Or split up.” He said, turning his head back briefly to observe the Medic and another dark lion at work.

Baise lingered in her spot for a few moments, taking her head down to a small puddle to do something she’d never done before: drink as much as she wanted until her belly was full and she could take no longer. That was nice, she supposed. The juvenile sat down again and sighed, slowly realizing that looking miserable wasn’t enough to gain attention from one of the busy adults in the area. Finally, she stood up and walked up to one of the large felines and started digging right next to the adult. She wasn’t particularly eager to be useful as much as she’d like to get some recognition for the effort, self-serving as it was.

"Forget the hyena. We'll get nothing out of it but lies, anyway. No point wasting resources on a half-dead intruder." Azar snarled, slapping a root away as he stalked back away from the wards. He'd never liked the ward dens for all the strange scents that lingered there and with it in such disarray it wasn't much better. "I'm going and I say we go now before we're too late. Anyone who stays to waste time on that thing should be ashamed." His teeth flashed in the gloom and, shaking his head again to send a spray of rain all about him, he began to head away, not seeming to care if anyone was going to join him or not.

The choice was simple. The lives of pride members beat the life of an outsider every time. Every time. Was he the only one who could see that?

With a growl, he lifted his head to scent for cubs only to find his nostrils filling with water. Ugh.

When it rains, it pours.

Why did he always have to get himself caught up in these emergencies?

Zjarr returned, unwilling to admit aloud how worried she was becoming for her mother. The place was a mess, and her mother was missing. It hadn't really dawned on her just what that meant when her brother had asked about her before, but now that she'd taken a good look at the places she knew so well, that used to be so orderly and safe. Everything was wrong, and she'd have liked to sit down and indulge in a major case of stress and worry. But she couldn't, now was not the time. She had to be stronger than this.

With a firming of her jaw, she moved to the cave mouth, away from those picking up herbs to help the smelly canine. She looked back towards the others, saying simply, "There are more out there, and even if he was awake, I suspect it would take too much time to convince him to tell us where." She turned her face to the rain, letting it drip across her muzzle. Action was needed, and she was twitching to do something. It would help her remain strong and press her personal concerns to the back of her mind. She did cast a sideways look at vehement reaction of Azar. She was eager to move, but saw no need to hurl insults at those helping as they were inclined.

Occupied with his niece, Kosuke metaphorically sat out the hyena waking and being knocked out. He looked at the roots scattered around, then picked one up at random. "Roihu, what does this one do...?" Logic stood that he would, perhaps, know what it did, being around Ea and the medics all the time. Then he looked at Kio. "Did perhaps someone else take the cubs elsewhere, do you know? Singh, or your father, maybe?" He remembered Arevik being in a panic about the cubs... His ears folded back as he remembered, too, Rashmi's words from the raven she'd run into. "They didn't try to take any of the cubs, did they?"

Mkazo growled softly. The hyena they'd caught could have valuable information...but every moment they spent trying to wake it up was another moment the rest of them got further away--possibly with cubs. "Are you sure about this?" he questioned Morag. "It could know something, sure--but is it worth wasting time waking it up? Maybe we should cut our loss with it and go after the others." Giving it a hard look, he added, "With someone watching it for whenever it does wake up."

Azar was relatively quiet in the events that were unfolding. She watched prepared to act she was also prepared to go after the hyena just in case he was faking it some how. She really had never seen a hyena again so the idea of dealing with one right now was interesting. She looked at the creature, it was an odd shape... honestly she thought it looked ugly. There were a few canines that she had seen around the pride, but this one was just plain odd.

But as she watched and the creature passed out she couldn't help but to feel extremely frustrated all of a sudden. She really didn't want to waste her time waiting for this creature to wake up. Not when there was missing cubs, more hyenas wandering about and then on top of that her sister out but her niece not really knowing where she was. She bit her lip for a moment that was until Nkera spoke up. Her ears perked and she stepped forward. But then once again Azar'b spoke and she couldn't help but to get a little frustrated. "Seriously Azar calm down." She said bluntly to him snapping him a look before speaking herself. "If the medics stay and maybe a few other stay to revive and interrogate him that would make perfect sense." She then paused and looked at the group. "If a the rest of us try to find the others I feel it would really be worth the efforts, there is no use if all of us are here to keep the creature from escaping. One or two of us are enough." She nodded and then spoke once again. "I say we just split up. It'd be for the best." The group was large anyway and she felt that there was no point of all of the staying there to possibly tackle the poor creature.

Mwale nodded to both the lions who shared the same name. The lioness had moved them on separately from the rest of the group for a little while. When the hyena had appeared, the thought of lost cubs seemed to flee from everyone's mind. Now the hyena was half dead, he doubted they should carry on down this path. He had stayed primarily quiet, uttering a few low growls at the creature, but was on guard, and looked to the two lions he stood beside for thoughts on what to do next. He turned away from the injured hyena and to the lioness, Azar.

"I say we split up, and find the rest of them before they find the cubs. I will come with you if you wish, Azar."

There was no point wasting their time on this one creature, when they didn't know how many more were out there.

Digging a hole? Hmph, like their little paws could dig a decent hole!

But still, drawing something on the history stones was too great a thing to pass up, and she jumped down eagerly to start digging with Mate'moto. In the back of her mind was a niggling desire to run off and investigate with the grown-ups. What if it were the Nergui? They had killed the mother she had never met, and Keegan could never forgive them for that.

-

Yayuka tilted his head, and shrugged. "Whatever's going on over there, I'd rather find out. If they spotted intruders..." He paused and thought a bit. "Well, if it's Nergui, I'd be happy to join in. An ear for an ear, as they say." For a moment there he looked a little serious, but eventually opened up a grin, and unconsciously tried to flick an ear that simply wasn't there anymore.

"So I think we should go." They had to leave quickly if they were to find the others. He remembered the direction they ran off in, and hopefully they'd figure it out.
