Ami stared at the glass Lex had handed her like it was a dead rat, and then politely set it on a table, not bothering to take a sip. She wouldn't be getting drunk this New Year's Eve, no.
She looked over at the fizzled argument, noting Wilson, Lex, Leon and Gale all right next to each other. She even made an ashamed little wave at Wilson before feeling stupid about the entire gesture.
"Marcus let me go home," she hissed. "I don't want to be here."

The corner of Jordan's mouth quirked. "Rep was winding you up more than actually asking you to organize things," he pointed out. "You're a hell of a lot more organized than a lot of people here." At the rest of what Melvin had to say, though, he sobered. "It's a pretty dysfunctional family, I'll give you that one."
He considered the question carefully, then asked, "Like what, specifically?"

Gale downed half of the glass of wine and gave Leon a suspicious look.
"That makes no sense."
But then there was Wilson and Gale smiled, making a beeline for the older hunter.
"Evening," he said, in a much more cheerful voice than he normally had, which for Gale was just slightly above stoicism. Then he promptly climbed onto Wilson's back, piggyback-style because that was obviously the right thing to do in this sort of situation.
"Hi, friend."

"I know he was. Still doing it...maybe." It wasn't a maybe. Rep had called him a quitter and now it was planted in his brain. Stupid b*****d had his moments of getting right at him.
"I mean - did anyone here ever get along? I though people in the military had great parties because they were in the trenches together. I've seen soap operas with less bitching than the parties we have." He then had to pause. "I mean, not that I watch those. I don't. My mom did. Of ******** it." He was drinking too much too fast. He should have had one of those gory cookies.

Otto was wandering the halls, groggy from a long nap in his room. He couldn't remember where it was he was going, and hoped he'd just stumble upon the place he was maybe supposed to be if he dragged his fuzzy brained self around.
But then he found something he did not want to find ever;
A party.
Otto did not like parties.
He made a wide arc around the gathering, trying to lay low and get through the common room without being seen.
At least it had music, right? But oh gods who gave these people booze again?

There was A slow reaction from Marcus as Leon spoke about an incident. One that he wished he could have changed, avoided, if only he’d simply recovered faster. Of what Robert had done to Cass, and how Leon had been the one to try a break the news. How Leon had to be there when Marcus simply hadn’t. “…” He remained silent, looking down at the beer in hand. Jerry just made it worse. That horrible crushing reality that loomed over him, in the back of his mind. The moon hunter’s expression when from mildly amused at the cat fights to somber quicker than he would have liked. “Sorry Ami.” He looked down at the shorter life trainee. “I had hoped that maybe, it wouldn’t have been like.. well.” It was hard to avoid this. Thanksgiving he’d hoped but that had been dashed. Now yet again, no civility. No joy. Just fighting. “No. You’re staying.” Lex got a grin and wave. “See, he’s having fun. Gale’s here, so is Wilson.” Both of whom got a wave. “We are going to mingle, just a bit.” He needed to just.. think of lighter things. “And avoid spats if we can.” He grinned. “You need to at least see some fireworks.” He paused. “Non violent ones.”

He gave Leon a curious look. Was Wilson bothering Leo—
Another wide-eyed look toward the younger death hunter. “Evening,” he answered back as he drank more champagne. Wilson narrowed his eyes at Gale. “Gale, are you feeling oka—Oh.” He leaned over and instinctively grabbed onto one of Gale’s legs with his free arm. His smile turned polite as he downed the rest of his drink and grabbed onto Gale’s other leg and allowed the boy to remain clinging to his back like it was perfectly normal.
“I think that drink was just a little too much for you,” he noted with a wry grin.

Jerry kept his back to the crowd as he slyly poured a bit more rum into his coke before shoving the bottle to the side as though he had never touched it. Turning back, he saw Rep rejoining the party and gave a sigh of relief.
Stupid Leon. Him and all his gaggle of friends all standing there bold as brass as though the boxer hadn't just made a huge hissy fit.
The sight of Otto entering at least perked him up at least- at last, a friendly face! And a welcome distraction from the bad feelings Leon had successfully bubbled up in him. "Otto! Happy new year!! You got your bongos alright?"

Ami was blatantly looking away from where Marcus was directing her. Looking at Wilson, Lex and Gale in the same spot kind of made her feel more miserable. As Marcus droned on about mingling, she couldn't help but feel a little jealous of the circle of friends that was quickly forming without her.
"I can see them just fine, and now that I've seen them I'll just be-" She coughed as Otto walked into the room. Otto wasn't even old enough to- ...
She sighed and waved the boy over, less focused on her own exit and more focused on keeping Otto from doing something entirely stupid. She'd been to many of these little parties before, and knew what could and would happen on New Year's. No way it'd be happening to Otto, if she could help it. "I'll stay for a little while," she hissed at Marcus. That was all you were getting. Was Otto looking a bit tipsy now? Or was that just sleepy ...

Lex had to chuckle a bit at Gale and Wilson, raising a brow at how quickly the younger death got drunk. Well, he was a bit on the small side...
Another sip, and Lex nodded to the two deaths. "Happy New Year to you two; make the most of it."
And then he spied Otto, trying to evade the party. Nope - sorry kid, wasn't gonna happen today.
"Otto! Get over here!" He called, beckoning the blonde teen and filling a glass with champagne for him. He knew the kids wasn't legal, but hey - it was New Year's Eve.

"The offer of help still stands. If he's going to prod you into doing it, the least he can do is give you a hand hauling stuff." Jordan smiled.
"The initial group that I woke up with was pretty close," he mused, "but as more trainees arrived, people broke off into groups. The thing is, it's not really military here. We're organized to fight Halloween, but off duty, we're given nearly free rein. The complex is more like a town than a military base. Enduring danger together helps build trust, but we're not getting broken down and put back together in a specific mold the way military recruits are." He took another drink, looked meditatively into his cup. "Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing? No idea. We've all got our individual trauma and crazy."

Melvin gave Jordan a look. "Some people have their own crazy." Not Melvin, as he rubbed his thumb on his glass to get rid of a water mark.
"Congrats by the way. You should go and save your guys in there. I'm sure there are plenty of people in there who want to give their congrats. I'll be fine." He gestured at the door.

********. He was spotted. Otto's grogginess obviously had slowed his better instincts as a Death Hunter. He sighed and waved a hand at Jerry. Jerry was being fairly civil and normal so far, so it was best to condition this behavior with a civil greeting bac. "Happy New Year. I did, they're awesome. Thanks, dude." He really was thankful for the bongos. They were kick-a**, really. Low and Behold, two faces he knew were also beckoning him over. Otto managed a small and mild smile for Jerry, patting him on the arm before moseying over to Lex. "Hi.." He murmured in a tired voice, staring at the drink he was being offered. . . . Oh Hell no. Otto knew for a fact his tolerance for alcohol was tiny. No way would he let himself get tipsy. "Uuh.. what is it?" If it involved booze, he was so running.

Gale gave Wilson a Look.
"I'm not drunk," he said, which was perfectly true. Feeling a bit more pleasant than usual, perhaps, but not drunk. "We're allowed to under 18 if we're supervised in England." Gale shrugged, which was a slightly awkward gesture on Wilson's back, one arm looped loosely around his neck. "I've had champagne lots before. Beer is nasty, though."
He tilted his head, eyeing Lex.
"Who're you? I think I've seen you before."

"Thanks." Jordan gave Melvin a long look. "Let me know if you need anything." That said, he turned to head back into the room. He could take a hint.
