In seeing to Jaggeth's hunger Roscoe hadn't been paying attention to the rest of the hatching, it wasn't until the loud clank of shovel on shell echoed through the sands that he turned his attention back to the eggs. There was one by Sunnath still he noticed and from what he could see the candidates had all clustered closer to the crimson's clutch. Why would they do that?
'Our smaller brethren cannot make this far' Jaggeth supplied as he downed another chunk of meat. "Really?" Roscoe replied out loud - he hadn't quite gotten used to replying mentally yet. Ducking down he tried to peer through the ranks of candidates and caught sight of a red hatchling flopped down on the sands. "Wow...and to think I was worried you were a black, that hatchlings doesn't even look like it's strong enough to live through the night." He remarked before shrugging and feeding Jaggeth another chunk of meat.
'She will' Jaggeth replied 'Just wait and see.' The brown replied in a confident and quiet voice.

Mine! Look, my brotherss found Theirs! The Green said from where she sat beside herKodi. Every few seconds or so, she would get distracted and point something out to her bonded. Or ask a question. Can we visit them after they eat?
Kodi stuck her hand into the bucket again, trying not to make any noises at the smell. Or the way the meat felt as her fingers squished through the juicier bits. "I-I'm sure... we can." She managed to get out. "OhFaranth. Aeskeluth! Eat this. It's so gross."
But it's so good. Aeskeluth swung her head back to delicately take the piece of meat from Kodi. Do you not like meat, Mine?
"I like meat! Just prefer it ta be cooked." She made a face, glancing at the other pairs to see if anyone else found this icky too. Kodi knew she'd have to get used to this. And shellit, she would do it like a pro!
Aeskeluth giggled. Look at Belcarrath! Climbing in the stands like that. More giggling and delicate snatching of meat. I wonder why His was hiding up there? Mine, why would His be up there?
"Why not focus on eating and then we can ask him later." Kodi suggested, patting that mossy colored snout.

Well it looked like Rochelle was not to be left out after all. Instead of a gaggle of candidates, Bereck was now to be pestered by a whole wing of weyrlings.
At least Berath would probably love it. With all of Bereck's usual visitors taking care of hatchlings, Cai might be able to talk to him about a formal apprenticeship. She wanted to walk the tables soon and for that she needed someone to help her finish her training. She hadn't wanted to bother him with it while he was healing.
Sure there were other healers who could have taken her on, but she was fond of Berath, and impressed by Bereck. She had respect for the Master who had finished his training despite being a rider. That and she still had an interest in dragonhealing, though she was finding the more she got her hands bloody, the more she liked her initial plan of pharmaceutical work.

It took a few minutes to respond. In fact, rochelle stared at the weak little crimson well into the hatching of her brother, mouth open. She felt it all - fond irritationn hunger, the love, the bond - and it overwhelmed. So just when people were feeling safe, she shrieked and scurried to the crimson.
"Kibeth!" She wouldn't be Rochelle if she weren't a bit loud. Sand scrunched under her feet, the girl dropping to her knees to lean and embrace the red. "Youre real!"
Don't make me regret picking you. Of course I'm real. Real and hungry. Kibeth nuzzled her anyway, small head lifting as a person approached with food, slowly. Rochelle snagged the bucket where she knelt, and offered it to the hungry dragon. Despite being weak, at least Kibeth had a bit of roundness to her. Around the mouthfuls, she reached out to Bel and Mal. This will be fun.

[Wen] The green had chosen and all that was left was the smaller of the eggs in the sands. Wen joined the circle of candidates, feeling rather squished and watched as the Hyweth's rider helped the first egg crack into a fiery little crimson. Gorgeous and rather fitting of the color of the shell it had been encased in. He smiled slightly and watched it raise and felt nothing. She had found her in a other female candidate.
The misdirect egg ended up being a inky black hatchling. Gorgeous and hungry and instead of moving he seemed to be holding his strength till he was sure of who he wanted. Wen would admit it was a rather gorgeous little black and he seemed well aware of his gorgeousness, preening and he seemed to be scheming.

The black's head swung around slowly until he was looking at his chosen rider, and a little smirk that could be sensed only by Wen formed in the atypes mind as he stepped slowly forward. With all of Hyweth's eggs successfully hatched and Impressed the candidates were hurried over to the lone Languid egg in Sunnath's clutch. They were formed into a loose ring around the last egg on the Sands, leaving a gap only for Kindra to step forward with her shovel and break the hatchling free of its prison.

At least the black, the real black, looked healthier than the crimson Rochelle had Impressed to. Now that they were back at Suunath's last egg she could see clearer. Cai was almost sad that it was over, she would have actually liked to watch more atypicals hatched, just to satisfy her curiosity. Still there was work to be done and having seen it done twice, Cai turned to put more of her focus into getting things ready for transport back to the infirmary. Besides one cut face and a few bruises, this had been a bloodless hatching. If all went well with the missing eggs today could be considered a victory.
Cai didn't bother to look for Bereck, he was probably off with his son celebrating. Well good for him. Cai didn't mind bossing the other apprentices around.

Darsha sighed when the handsome black impressed, shooting an envious glance in Wen's direction. She knew that most candidates didn't impress the first time around, but Darsha had been so convinced that she was different. Special. Something out of the ordinary.
There was only one egg left, the languid egg. Mustering up her last few vestiges of hope, Darsha walked over and joined the group that had been herded back to Suunath's clutch. Despite all of the impressions, there were still so many of them left. So many who would be left sorrowful and disappointed.
If only those other eggs hadn't been stolen... maybe hers could have been there. With a sigh, she returned her attention to the cracking of the languid egg.

Kindra had been dreading this but, despite the theft of other eggs, she was pleased that there was only one she had to do this for. She shuddered as she picked up the ceremonial shovel and hefted it over her shoulder as she stepped forwards and entered the ring of candidates.
Suunath's eyes flashed red as Kindra hefted the shovel, whacking the side of the egg, a little too roughly apparently for Suunath as the Gold suddenly rushed towards Kindra, placing her feet where they wouldn't touch the candidates but even a small gold looming over you was still pretty big and likely frightening. It didn't help that she bent her head low and roared at Kindra, her lashing tail kicking up sand as she and her rider had a private mental battle, Suunath raking trenches in the sand nearby before giving a low growl and leaning back, away from the candidates but not moving too far off.
"right... let's get this over with" she said out loud, giving the egg another whack since the first apparently hadn't been enough to send enough cracks through the shell. Once it was apparent that she'd done enough she stepped back and out of the way, keeping a very close eye on Suunath and that egg.

The Languid egg twitched and wriggled after the second strike of the shovel and after a few tense moments a dark hind foot kicked out. Was this another black? A second foot kicked out, and a tail flicked out, and then the shell fell away to reveal not a second black, but a second crimson. Lying on her side the little hatchling raised her head and looked around at the candidates and blinked peacefully, wearily.
After some moments she got to her feet and looked at the candidates before her. Making a little noise in the back of her throat she then turned to look at the candidates behind her... and then turned to the first half again. She made another little noise then, not quite a keen but a rather uncertain sounding warble. Where was Hers? They had to be here somewhere... didn't they?

Kindra noted the uncertainty of the... Crimson, she hated to say it but.. at least this wasn't the natural neuter color. A Crimson had more potential (to her) than a Silver or a Black. "Right you lot" she addressed the gathered candidates "Don't go shifting around, confuse her and she'll Between" she said, her voice brooking no arguements.
Suunath on the other hand gave a small gentle croon to her baby, barely resisting the urge to nose the crimson to reassure her, to urge her to find hers quickly. She didn't know if she'd lost any other babies in the theft, she didn't want to loose this one.

Zarike
Jealous wasn't quite the right word, though it could easily apply. Zarike wasn't the jealous sort though. Hurt fit better. As the blue had charged up the Stands, Zarike had felt his heart soar with disbelief. Was it coming for him? Did it not matter that he wasn't 12 exactly?! He had almost cried aloud with joy when the creature barreled right past him, taking his legs out from beneath him and Impressing to an older man not far away.
He wanted to cry. He wanted to break down and sob for getting his hopes up so high. Zarike didn't though. He held the tears back and cheered for the happy pair as much as the rest of the crowd did.
The last few eggs were blurred though as Zarike tucked himself up against the railing again, heart and body bruised and hurting more than they had in a long time.
...........................................
Cai
Suunath's roar had Cai's attention as the Benden gold protested the cracking of her egg. Admittedly, it had been something she'd wondered about. Was this the first deliberately hatched Benden atypical? Sure it wasn't on the Sands of her beloved mountain weyr but that was still Benden's gold.
The rider, despite her less than pleased expression had done her job without complaint though. The keening warble of the hatchling was pitiful, as was it's small size. Cai turned back to latching the lid down on the case at her feet.

[Wen]Words flowed in his mind, curling and possessing so much different from his flits that Wen was shocked still for mere moments. Fate would bond him to the egg he had pulled away, sensing a great manipulator in the works, he mused before smiling and walking forward towards the black hatchling and knelt, tucking his raw red feet underneath him. 'Hello Rynsemth,' he greeted sincerely in his mind forming the words in his thoughts. He reached out to stroke over the small ridges of the hatchling. 'Know that I am not going to let you get away with anything.' Wen gathered the hatchling, mirth bubbling slightly in his mind 'Unless they deserve it.' Cause some people frankly deserved a bit of trouble. He looked up, nodding and took the bucket, calmly looking through the bucket for smaller pieces and picked up some sort of organ meat, giving it to his. Rynsemth took the offer meat and his rider words with pleasure. He had picked the best and it showed in the ease his had adopted to the mental speech. They were meant for subtly after all. He ate dainty, knowing also that he had to wait and to grow before they could do anything, but he would do so beautifully. he replied to his chosen, content to be cared for, sharp eyes watching.

At first she had thought that it was going to be another black emerging from the languid egg's shell. But... no! It was a dainty crimson. She seemed weak, or perhaps just tired... but she also seemed so much more serene and less aggressive than so many of the others hatchlings Darsha had seen that day. Was it just the stress and exhaustion of hatching, or was the crimson's personality already showing through?
Taking Kindra's words to heart, Darsha mustered up every ounce of positivity and support that she could find within herself. Even if she didn't impress the pretty little crimson, someone had to. With no idea what had happened to the stolen eggs, they could not afford to have the newly hatched dragonet go between.

The Languid crimson turned around again, a flicker of yellow entering her eyes; she hardly heard her mother's call to her. Where was Hers? This time she moved very slowly, keeping her hind legs more or less in place as she turned a careful circuit. No. Still she could not see them. Legs shaking under her the crimson lay down in the sand and closed her eyes, trying to stretch her awareness out to where she was too weak to walk. She did not feel desolate, did not feel empty and alone; Hers was here, just not near and her's was... closed. Hers was not looking for her. Opening her eyes and raising her head the crimson tried to peer between the candidates but they were too tightly packed. Heaving herself to her feet she started towards them, pressing insistently with her muzzle at those who did not immediately move aside. After what felt like a very long time she broke free of the ring and, for the first time, she saw the Stands and the spectators in them. So many people, so many minds but none of them were fitting either. The crimson lowered her gaze and looked around again, desperately seeking the one that was for her before her strength could run out.... And there she was, with her back to her. The crimson gave a long sweet call and started to stagger towards the Healers' table.
