Lancaeriel walked close to Miyuki, watching her carefully, ready to catch her should she lose her balance. They met no one as they walked down the corridor, and when they reached the library, Lancaeriel stopped.

"Just up there," she pointed up the hall for Miyuki. "And I shall see you again ... if not at supper, then at tomorrow breakfast. And this time, I promise to get a proper night's rest."

She smiled sheepishly before heading back into the library to retrieve her book.

Most of the doors in the halls were open, but only a few were occupied. In one, Regan was sitting, though she didn't seem to be working, and Sir Valdemar was working with Aranxia in another. Further down the hall, in what had once been Earendil's own study, Shiro and Andarien were working at Earendil's old desk.

Currently, Shiro was watching over Andarien's shoulder as the boy recited the elvish alphabet, writing each rune as he said it. He was making quick progress, considering he had only started a few days ago, but that was to be expected, as he was more than proficient at languages and already well into his education.

Eon was napping on the corner of the desk as Andarien worked, and Andarien had set his hat on Eon's head to keep it from falling into his work.

Shiro and Andarien looked up when Miyuki spoke, and though Shiro was smiling, Andarien seemed to be more excited.

"Hey! Mi! You grew! You're taller than me again!" he beamed.

Shiro chuckled and ruffled Andarien's hair. "Yes, she grew, too. Back to work, I'll be back in a few minutes, I'm sure."

"'Kay." Andarien turned back to his paper and continued his writing.

Shiro turned back to Miyuki and beckoned for her to come closer. "Bring it here. I'm going to guess your first question is whether it's a boy or a girl?"

"And to give it a gender-appropriate name, I'm sure," Shiro quipped, taking the Eevee from Miyuki. He held it in one hand, facing away from him, and lifted its tail. After a moment, he handed it back to Miyuki. "Female."

With a smile, he asked, "What else would you like to know about it? I mean, about her?"

"Fairly simple," Shiro mused. "You've seen what Andarien's been feeding Eon. Fruit, berries ... for the most part, if it's healthy for you, it will be healthy for them. And you're right, they are incredibly intelligent creatures. Even if she doesn't understand you right away, she will quickly, I'm sure."

He glanced at Andarien and the still-sleeping Eon. "Your brother is finding out that one of the best ways to train Eon is simply by doing everything with him. Being his friend. Start by getting to know one another. I suggest by leaning to communicate with her, for a few days at least. Once you feel that you can understand each other, talk to me again about her and we can try a few things."

"You may want to find your parents," Shiro suggested, though he was sure Miyuki would already have thought of that. "Or if they're not around, which is quite possible, maybe Daeron and Iorlas would be willing to take you to the cobbler. I think the sooner you get re-measured, the better. I know for sure those two are in the courtyard."

"Bye, Mi!" Andarien called without looking up.

"Later," Shiro added, going back to watching Andarien work.

Eon just slept on.
