Roswitha paused a moment as she caught a whiff of an interesting scent. An animal other than Kokuhatsu was nearby. As much as she wanted to go investigate the scent she entered the room instead. She didnt need to go making anyone angry at her. As she entered her feral eyes sharply looked over the others in the class room. It stirred. A pang in her stomach flared up. Though it would be impossible for her to do anything with her mouth bound in a leather mask. And the collar around her neck felt strange as well. Other people did not seem to be forced to wear such things. Then again she was not like other people. Roswitha looked down to her wolf companion. He looked fine. So he did not feel this same urge as she did. Strange. She could swear the large black wolf seemed to be amused by the whole situation.
So she was tie ten knots before the sun set? That was all they expected of her? How strange. She had expected something more. At least more physically demanding. As she moved to the back where they stored this 'rope' thing she was supposed to tie into knots she noticed the others who had been trying to do so were all much shorter than she was. This made her realize exactly how much of a difference there was between them and herself. Would they notice this to? Would they realize that she was probably no older than they were? And what about Kokuhatsu? Then again she seemed to look more out of place than her companion did.
Quickly reaching the back she grabbed what she believed to be the necessary materials for this odd test. Rather than having a seat anywhere she decided to place herself on the floor next to where she had gathered the materials. Always best to stay close to ones resources. Lifting up the strangle limp thing that she assumed to be what Yoshinaga called rope she took a quick sniff of it. She wasnt sure what to make of it but she was sure she could tie a knot out of it. Looking around at the others she soon gathered that she was expected to tie specific kinds of knots. Great. This might be more difficult than she had originally expected. Opening up the strange leafy object that had been stored near the rope she examined pictures and what seemed to be some sort of markings. She couldnt make heads or tails of the markings but she quickly realized the pictures were steps on how to make the knots.
Roswitha sat and stared at the pictures for a while. Always best to study and measure up a challenge before tangling with it. She had tied knots before but none like what she was looking at. How did they even manage to come up with this stuff? Why did it have to be so complicated. Oh well she wasnt one to back away from a challenge. Especially not one she was sure she could succeed at. After examining the pictures for a while she finally began attempting to tie her first of ten knots. Doing so very slowly and taking glances at the pictures from time to time. Was she doing it right? She wasnt quite sure. The pictures only showed one angle and some of it got lost behind itself at certain points. Why did they have to make it more difficult than it should be? (585Words)

Quote: DC: 50-6+[(5+15)-10]/10=45 3- Success 7/10Tying knots has seemingly been Jynn's entire life. His entire life of training has been bred for one purpose and one purpose only: to tie as many knots in small pieces of rope as possible. The work ceased needing effort. His fingers had stopped aching what felt like hours ago. How long has he been in this room? Days, weeks? Months even, who knew anymore. The only thing that mattered was the motion of his hands, and the knots they created. Jynn held up his moth recent accomplishment, examining it carefully. What could something like this mean? It had to represent part of his struggle, a hurdle to overcome on his ninja way. Maybe it symbolized the inner turmoil of one's soul, caused by some unknown action. And the only way to find inner peace was to know the structure of the knot; in making it, it could also be unmade. Jynn turned the rope around in his fingers, examining every stitch. Maybe the exercise was supposed to show that a basic, mundane skill always lead to greater ones. That a basic, uneventful life could eventually lead to exciting adventures, far beyond that any mortal man can comprehend. Jynn stared at the knot, thinking nothing, before dropping the rope and burying his face in his hands. That was really dumb. Quote: Personal Word Count: 1980

Takuya, triumphant in the last knot had been too engrossed in his tying and did not even realize that there were still students filtering into the classroom. The newest addition however, was one that intrigued him. She was tall, abnormally so to be in a class with students of similar age. Not only that but strapped to her face was a muzzle and around her neck a Collar, something you would see on an animal and not a person. Ignoring his book he watched her, noting how she looked confused with the objects handed to her. The girl had an aura of wildness about her, and Takuya would be sure to keep an eye on this one, just like he would with Miyuki.
Pressing onwards he flipped the pages of his book and found the next knot, busying himself with attempting to mock the hand movements before finally picking up the rope again. His fingers moved more nimbly, becoming more accustomed to the fine nuances needed to tie knots. He had never realized it before, but the more he tied knots the more he noted that he wasn’t exactly the most dexterous person. He was sure later tonight he would have blisters on his fingers and sore hands.

Takuya, momentarily distracted by movement outside turned his attention outside. One of the classmates from earlier was running as if his life depended it. Arching an eyebrow slightly her was perplexed, it was only day one and still there were things that were happening that were causing students to run in fear and cause odd messages over the intercom. Not he was really itching to get out of this damn room. It had become stifling, and he was only getting pissed off watching everyone tie knots. At least if it had been sparing there would have been fighting to see.
Dejectedly he sighed, massaging his temples a bit. He didn’t know how an inanimate object could manage to piss him off, but Takuya knew that he did not want to see another rope for at least a week after this lesson. This rope was becoming his mortal enemy, or maybe he was just fed up with having to tie ropes. Either way he was getting close to finishing up the “Detention” and knew that as soon as he was finished he would be out of this room in a heartbeat and off to discover whatever it was the other students were so afraid of.

The ropes are still forcing me to do their bidding.' The boy wrapped part of the cord around his finger, his monologue never stopping. 'I guess you could say my hands are tied.' Jynn slouched back in his chair, the progress on his knot quickly becoming unraveled. The blond rolled his head back, his body shaking with just barely controlled laughter. His lips were spread into a wide grin, and a soft chuckle escaped from his mouth. He hunched forward in his seat, quietly laughing at his joke. He was so glad he came in when he did. What if he actually had to do the earlier portion of this, then detention on top of it? Jynn felt sorry for any sucker that was hear for both class and this. This knot tying torture, that would make even a Tailed Beast cry. Now there's a thought,' Jynn pondered, tilting his head in thought. Could they tie knots? I assume so, with all of those tails. The boy shrugged and went back to his knot, his face still split into a giant grin. Guess I'll never know.

He was so close… so close. And yet somehow at the last moment when Takuya believed he had completed his knot something went wrong. Now all he was left with was a knot that looked like the retarded cousin of the illustration in the book. That was it… That was it. Growling Takuya flung the retarded looking knot against the wall, leaning back and taking deep breaths. All he wanted was to get out, to stop looking at the book he wanted to rip into shreds. He needed to punch someone, something. Getting up he stalked over to the other side of the room, looking at the pile of rope with a glare that could burn flesh.
Picking up a new piece, he gripped it so hard in his hand his knuckles went white. He swore that by the end of the day he would gather every single piece of rope he could find, and burn it. And while he watched the godforsaken pieces of twine burn he would laugh. The first day of the Academy was a dark day indeed, and one he was eager to end and never repeat again. Sitting back down Takuya stole another glance at his textbook.

If Takuya ever believed in a god, he certainly did not believe in him now. He was put in this room, to suffer for an eternity it would seem. Stealing a glance at the clock he had already wasted a significant amount of time at this activity. Slamming his fist down onto the textbook on his Desk Takuya did not care what the others might have thought. The rope was pissing him off, and he could not leave until he finished this assignment. What was worse was he was sure he would hear it from others later how long it had taken him to tie KNOTS of all things.
How he wished they were doing something physical instead. How he wished there were punching bags or mannequins that he could take his anger out on. Instead, he was stuck sitting in a desk, staring at a book and a piece of rope, so close to finishing but getting caught up on what to do last minute. He could only hope that once he got out of class, the burning curiosity would be satisfied and he would never have to see a rope again in his life. If Takuya’s hell was ropes, it was certainly doing an excellent job.

The first knot had been completed. Roswitha held it up triumphantly before quickly setting it off to the side. Grabbing another rope she began attempting to try the next one. Yet again another overly complicated knot type. Having completely ignored any looks she had received and anything else that had been going she completely focused herself on studying the pictures for this knot as well.
Kokuhatsu laid itself down beside her to see what the redhead was fussing over. Knots. Useful. For humans anyhow. But the wolf had convinced itself that there were better ways of securing something than with something so fanciful looking. But it wouldnt question it to much. It was a human thing and nothing to do with a wolf.
Loop this way loop that way curve it back around. Maybe? Or was it around the other side? Was it that end or the other end? Did she miss a step? What was the other side supposed to look like? This was infuriating. Was it really so necessary for the knots to be co complicated? After all it cant escape a trap if you trap whats necessary for them to make an escape. Then again most prey didnt have thumbs like people did. So maybe it being this tricky would make sense. Maybe. As she finished what she was hoping to be the correct knot she checked the picture for confirmation. (234Words)

Quote: DC: 50-6+[(5+15)-10]/10=45 34-Success 9/10Jynn held his ninth rope with his thumb and index finger, leaning down to examine the cord. Yes, this one was beautiful. Definitely more suberb than the others of its kind. If he had to say one thing, it would be that this was a master crafted knot, probably the best in the world. This knot could hold mountains, no, entire worlds up with it's sheer perfection. It was a good specimen to offer his lord and master, the Rope King. His majesty would love such a high class subject at his disposal. This knot, that he held in his fingers at this very moment, would be the very conqueror of worlds. Rope King would reward Jynn very handsomely for creating such perfection. The boy put the knot down, but made sure it was separate from the rest. No need to pollute such high class with the common folk. 'In fact,' Jynn mused, as he twirled Knottington the ninth. 'I think this one will probably usurp the throne' He held the rope up above his head, grinning up at it. Yes, the old king is dead. Long live the new king: King Knottington. He will go forth and conquer all of the other ropes and knots.

Through all of his seething comments in his mind about the ropes, Takuya had somehow miraculously managed to pull some sort of semblance of a knot out of the rope. With a sigh he felt himself calm, but only just barely. He was sure this one success would be once again met with many failures, which would only serve to piss him off even more. What would he tell his father? He was late coming home because he couldn’t tie a knot? If his father found out it was entirely likely that his medicine would be withheld from him.
While Takuya had become accustomed to the pain that came with not consuming his father’s medicine, he really did not want to deal with it after a day like today, and certainly did not want to have to wake up and deal with the aches and pains in class tomorrow. Clenching and unclenching his left hand he glanced down, being the only one who knew what the bandages hid underneath. Picking up the rope again he turned the page. Time to get it done, or at least get pissed off again so he could be stuck in this room for the rest of eternity.

Just as he thought things were going well, Takuya tugged a little too hard and the rope snapped in half. He sat there for a few minutes, just looking at the two pieces of rope in his hands. Coughing in his hand he discreetly watched at the rope began to sizzle and melt. Dropping it into the Trash bin he felt an odd sort of satisfaction in the fact that there were less ropes in the classroom than there had been before. Grabbing another he looked to it, sighing.
“Look, I know you and I hate each other and all, but if you just let me finish I will be out of here and I will never see you again.” He was whispering so quiet that no one around him would be able to hear him. “But I promise you if you do not do just as I say I will burn you and melt you and maim you.” His eye glittered with a dark hatred as he spoke.
“So we are all on the same page right?” He asked glancing down to the textbook, he had been stuck on this page for some time, and after this page all he needed was one more knot.

Quote: DC: 50-6+[(5+15)-10]/10=45 24-Success 10/10Jynn slowly put the last knot in with the rest, making sure that none of them came undone. He carefully gathered them, piling them into his palm. The boy rose, holding the fruits of his efforts before him. All around him, other students sat in turmoil. Some were angry, others were crying. Most were sleeping. But Jynn walked among them, standing tall. He rose above and beyond the call of duty, bringing back these comrades. Bringing back ten, wounded comrades from a long time a way from home. Jynn strode up to the sensei, satisfaction welling in his entire being. He did it. He struggled through the hellish assignment, and he wasn't even there for the lesson. He had long since stopped using his trick, the only indication he had was a dull throb in his eyes. Jynn planted all ten of the knots down on the desk, carefully lifting his palm from the cords, making triple sure that they wouldn't undo themselves. He had played the game, and he had won. For now. And he planned on keeping it that way. With that said and done, Jynn stuffed his hands into his coat pockets and walked right out of the class room door.

Apparently the rope found this situation rather funny, because he completely ignored Takuya’s threat. Pulling the rope apart string by string he ran his saliva along his finger, running it down the piece of rope and watched it sizzle and melt ever so slightly. He would not go up to get a new piece, oh no, he would slowly torture this rope until he broke it to his will. Smiling sadistically he began to pull on the rope, wrapping it around his fingers and around his knuckles.
And then he realized just what exactly he was doing. He was torturing a rope for god’s sake. If he had any questions about his sanity before, this school was certainly not making things any better. Growling he rested his head on the desk, opting to carefully observe the book and ignore the half melted rope for now.
Calm down, calm down, calm down. He said to himself in his head. It was his mantra. He could not lose his temper right now; losing his temper would only make things worse. Not that it couldn’t go any worse today. He was certain that if anything, he developed a newfound hatred for an inanimate object today.

Shiro shook her head and looked down at Bou "take it easy boy... I know it's kind of spooky but... I don't sense anything that scary." She states to her little dog who only whimpered in reply he really didn't like the prospect but he wasn't about to let Shiro go in there alone, even if he was scared. While she could smell or hear anything off enough, aside from the odd little child like laughter she heard initially, she got a strange feeling one that was surrounding her, something dark and heavy. She was afraid of moving forward, but at the same time she felt a need to press forward. Beyond the spooky influence she also wanted to move forward, she couldn't let something like this remain in HER school could she. She wouldn't be able to make her brother proud of her if she ran away from something spooky right? Shiro didn't open her eyes so that the strange visuals wouldn't effect her and she continued to press on towards the door. Her heart was beating so loudly now that she couldn't hear what was going on even if she had wanted too. She would have reached for a wall but right now she was trying to rely on her idea of closed eyes being the way to get there. Takuya hadn’t thought this through; he should have just gotten a new piece of rope. Almost immediately the half-melted rope in his hands broke, mostly because he had weakened the fibers and caused it to become weak, unable to handle even the simplest of knots. Tossing the melted rope onto the floor he sighed, digging through his bag and pulling out his water bottle. Taking a long drink he sighed, although he was only 12, he wished he were 21 so he could take advantage of alcohol.
Instead Takuya got up, defeated by a rope he was stubborn. If he had to he would sit here all night trying to finish up this rope training. He couldn’t home knowing he had failed at that, although he had already failed quite significantly anyways. Tomorrow would be a new day, tomorrow would be better, and hell once he was out of this classroom he was convinced things would go better for him. At the very least he wouldn’t have to sit there and look at rope for hours on end.
Holding the rope up between his forefinger and thumb he flicked it with his free hand. One more attempt, that he was sure would end in failure because the gods were cruel cruel people.
