Lightning happily cleaned the rest of her fur as she did the same for him, his uneasiness gone. Then she started stroking his sides and nearly made him melt in bliss. He whined happily for a moment, letting her nuzzle her head against his stomach. When she flopped over and curled around him, he rolled onto his side and curled towards her. One paw--the one that was still dripping in the juice of the peach it had crushed--was placed on Ithil's shoulder, while the other slipped under her head and neck, resting on the ground so it was supporting him and keeping Ithil's face out of the mud. It drew Ithil's head into his chest a bit as he moved closer, but that was fine with him.
Lightning leaned over and began licking up the peachy mess his paw was making on her fur, but not in the quick, almost hurried manner they'd been cleaning each other in before. These were slow, deliberate licks that weren't keeping up with the flow of juice--and weren't catching any of the juice that ran down onto her chest from her shoulder. Then he started stroking her exposed side with the juicy paw, though his tongue only cleaned around her shoulder; attempting to clean elsewhere would mean uncurling from Ithil. After a few minutes, he finally spoke the opinion that had been forming since this peach mess began. "... We're... not just friends anymore... are we?" This was much more intimate than that. These feelings were much to intense to be contained in a mere friendship. And the more he cleaned and stroked Ithil, the more he hoped that there was more than that. He didn't want to have to let go...

Flourishing in a pampered heaven wouldn’t have made Ith as happy as she was there covered in peach juice and laying in the mud. It had to be company because anyone else who tried it she would have had no problems biting and clawing at. His comment struck her as stupid but she didn’t want to call him on it. After all she had the same one moment before. “No.” She snuggled tighter into him. “Is that a problem?” She looked at him uncertain for only a moment before seeing the intensity of his feelings in his eyes and smiling at him. There was no doubt for him so there was no reason to worry for her. “Though you’re still a stupid idiot and I will call you on it.” She rolled her eyes at him. “And I’ll still watch you do reckless things just for the sake of being yourself.” The grin she was wearing got even wider. “Who knows some of them may be pretty cool to witness. If the stunt doesn’t kill you first.” It was a morbid thing for anyone else but her tone indicated that she was just kidding. She knew she’d grab Lightning and haul him back from the precipice of danger before she watched him do something too stupid. She was pretty sure he knew it too by now. It felt so strange to be so close and so open with someone again. She missed Harvest but she had never been this close to her, if anything happened to Lightning.. well she was just going to follow him and make certain nothing did happen to him. He might be a stupid male, but he was her stupid male and that was that.

His eyes lit up when Ithil snuggled into him. It was probably a good thing too, because he met her gaze a moment later. It was uncertain at first, but then the doubt melted from her expression. "Not a problem at all," he replied softly. Lightning chuckled at her next comment. "Fair enough." He pulled back a little so he could look at her. "But I'm not going kill myself." He licked her forehead lightly in reassurance and affection. "Promise." They probably had different opinions on what could kill him and what couldn't, but as far as he was concerned, he wasn't going to do anything on that level of recklessness. Even if he thought about it, Ithil would stop him. He resumed his slow, deliberate cleaning on her shoulder as he relished the feeling of having Ithil snuggled against him. No one had ever made him feel this way. Kazare and the others had made him feel welcome, but the strong sense of belonging and love that Ithil gave him was one of a kind.
"You know... there's different kinds of reckless," Lightning said between licks as his tongue moved from her shoulder up to her neck and then back down again. His paw widened its range from stroking just her side to stroking anywhere and everywhere in reach that Ithil didn't protest. He didn't realize he could be hungry for another Gladier's attention and affection like this. Maybe this was just what happened beyond the friendship line...

The promise did make her feel better. Somehow his affections made her want to coo and cuddle. “There may be different kinds of reckless but if it means losing your life then I’ll drag you off and keep you down until you decide that it wouldn’t be a good idea to keep doing whatever it you wanted to try.” She shivered in longing and let him do what he willed with her. “mmm.” She was surprised how soft he was with her. Could this really be the same fool who stepped on her was so reckless she was sure he was going to kill himself. He snarled at others being close to him since he had been abused before and yet now he was as delicate and welcoming as a sunny day? Though it wasn’t as if he was gruff all the time. He had given her food and even saved her from being covered and possibly injured from someone’s prank. It was odd to think that someone who had so much metal was also so velvety and sweet. She couldn’t help but fall for him, and now he was a very important part of her life and she knew that she would follow him had he loved her back or not. Her attraction to him was just that powerful. Still the fact he shared the emotions of affection just made her his all the more. “I’m yours you know. I think I love you and I know I’ll be there for you. Good luck getting rid of me.”

"Just said I'm not killing myself being reckless," Lightning grumbled. Ithil's shivering made him instinctively curl closer, his paws drawing her further into his hold. He continued his caressing since she'd given him no objections, and at the quiet "mmm" she let out, he couldn't help feeling pleased with himself. He didn't know why she'd gotten so close to him, why she was able to cut straight to his core with minimal negative reactions, but she had. Ithil had caught him with her stubborn but intoxicating personality. And he was glad she did. At her words, he all but froze. "You're... mine," he repeated slowly. The words were simple, but the weight of them slammed into him like a ton of bricks. She was his. His.
"... Love you more," he replied after a few minutes, once he was able to compose himself enough to speak. "You better be there," he continued, voice growing husky with his possessiveness and want. "No one will keep me away from you." He nuzzled his head against the one nestled against his chest. "You're mine, and I'm yours. Nobody else's." As he familiarized himself with Ithil's scent and claimed her with caressing, another thought drifted into his mind. "We should... go somewhere less muddy," he mumbled, licking her affectionately. Somewhere quiet, somewhere private. "I can clean all the juice and mud off of you..." Since she was his now, Lightning had no problem licking the bits of mud his paws couldn't get to make sure she was clean. "... and maybe we can... be even more reckless together." Whether Ithil admitted to it or not, they were being pretty reckless. Being so vulnerably open with each other in an easy viewable area and being... well, very intimate with a Gladier that had been an infuriating stranger just that morning. Not that Lightning was complaining; he much preferred this side of Ithil to the scared and irritable version of her earlier.

She just gave him an ‘mmhm’ sound for his not killing himself comment. She knew that even if he didn’t intend for it to happen sooner or later Lightning would try something stupid and she’d have to bail him out. The thought didn’t make her mad like it should have though. Instead she felt content to wait and just be ready for it. She was so happy when she heard him call her his. It was just as hearing him say ‘love’ clicked things into place for her. “From the sounds of it you’re mine too.” She liked the thought of that. She was his, just as he was hers. It felt even and right. His possessive growl made her feel wanted and more than that, needed. It was new to her who had always been an afterthought or a tag along.. if she ever went at all. She closed her eyes and just left herself inhale his scent. She knew he was right that they needed to get up and move but she just didn’t want to. That irritating little part of her brain scolded her for being so clingy and so selfish. Sighing she disentangled herself from him with more reluctance than she thought she could ever experience in one lifetime. “Fine, but you owe me a complete grooming, and I’m not about to let you miss even a single bit of fur.” She stuck her tongue out at him as she stood up.
Standing up she was tempted to flop over onto Lightning again just because she could, but that would have meant she had gotten up for nothing since she was the one who stood first. She would rather eat rotten fruit that admit something like that so if stupid wanted to be cuddled then next time he would have to make the first move. It was just going to have to be that simple went they got to wherever they were going.

"That's what I said." He was Ithil's, and Ithil was his. Lightning took note of her reluctant sigh when she removed herself from him before getting to his feet. At her comment about not missing a bit of fur, he rolled his eyes playfully at her. "Yeah, yeah. And if I dare miss a spot, you'll be covered in fruit juice again and I'll have to start all over," he replied, as if it was the most logical response. He leaned in and whispered, "Sounds reckless. It's a deal," before walking over and grabbing the branch of peaches he'd plucked from the tree earlier. Then he led Ithil into the deeper parts of the forest. He would've just gone to the nearby dead tree, but that wasn't that private; other Gladiers came and teased him if he was there. They'd go to a part of the forest that the others didn't frequent, where the mountains violently clashed with it. There weren't a lot of caves or the like there, but Lightning had found a few in his explorations. One of them was hard to see until you stood right in front of it; that was where he was taking Ithil. They wouldn't be disturbed there. It was small, but it was comfortable enough; it was dry and definitely not muddy. He went inside, set the peaches down, and returned to Ithil's side. "Should we get some more fruit first?" he asked innocently. "Or should we head inside so I can groom you now?" Either way was fine with him. More fruit meant more ammunition for excuses to clean each others fur and they wouldn't have to leave for food later. But a part of him longed to usher Ithil inside and officially claim her as his. He lightly licked at her neck as he continued. "If we stock up, we won't have to get some later... but it might be hard to groom you if you get twigs in your fur..."

She didn’t mind the idea of being covered and cleaned again, but she kept that to herself and just rolled her eyes grinning. His whisper almost undid her right then and there. She would have pounced him and nuzzled him but he was on the move. She had never been so annoyed with anyone walking away from her before but she was now. Appreciative for the view of his tail she was not about to be left behind. Huffing she muttered under her breath. “I’ll show you reckless stupid.” Scurrying forward she caught up to him she kept following him not really certain where they were headed until he stopped in front of a small hole. She would have walked right by and not even noticed had he not brought her attention to it by disappearing inside with the peaches before coming back out. She thought about his questions for only the briefest of moments. “Food can wait. I can’t.” She arched her neck so that Lightning could lick more of it. With that done she started to walk into the cave. Quite, in the middle on nowhere, just the two of them alone together. Ithl was not only looking forward to this but figured that she could definitely get used to this. She hoped she be able to remember where this little cave was after all she could tell already that she would be spending a bit of time inside, probably quite often too. She didn’t bother to call back to Lightning. He would be coming quicker than his namesake.

Lightning quivered in excitement at her response. That settled that. Grooming and claiming Ithil now, food later. He didn't mind one bit. He practically bounced after her. Absently he thought about later. Once they were able to untangle themselves from each other, he'd stock the little cave with food and make a real bed inside. After all, they would be spending quite a bit of time there. Maybe this would be the home that neither of them had. Well, those thoughts could wait until later. Right now, the love of his life was waiting.
(( I say we stamp this finished and introduce Lightning and Ithil to Copper and Inkling. ))
