 Ray nodded at the 'call it instinct' comment that Katriel had made, he wasn't sure how to take the news that he might not be heard in some parts. It would be those parts he avoided! He allowed her to help him with his arm (but only because he trusted her) he also wasn't happy about the doctor calling Katriel 'Kat' when he himself wasn't. He couldn't help but growl at the man again when he made suggestions as to what he could do for his Alpha, he made sure that he wasn't baring his teeth at the man. God did he want to leave and soon! As soon as he noticed Katriel leaving he marched out and went as fast as he could away from the place determined not to go back at all. "I shall be fine once he get back to the 'rig'" he said through grated teeth.

"Aww, don't be a sour puss," Katriel teased. "Leon took good care of me a couple of years ago when a bull moose tried to hamstring me. I don't even have a scar--that's how good he is. He's just been out here in the woods a bit too long. But don't worry about him anymore. As soon as your arm heals, we'll take a run together. I promise. But what do you want to do in the mean time?"

Ray blinked quite surprised not at the 'sour puss' remark but at the question that Katriel asked, did he really say 'in the mean time?'. He honestly didn't think he did but he did know what he wanted to do and that was sleep! He had a feeling the younger male might be back for a second round and he had to be ready for it. No way was he willing to allow Katriel to fight! he wasn't too keen on hearing what 'Leon' managed to do for her, as far as he was concerned the man was a rival for her attention. "In the mean time I think sleep is in order" he said continueing to walk back to the 'rig'. He knew he was probably acting like a poiled wee child but at that moment he didn't care.

Katriel smiled. "Good idea; a snack an a nap are just the thing," she agreed. "I'd love to break out the buffalo jerky. It's a treat I don't get very often." It occurred to her that Ray was growing up right in front of her, catching up to his real age. Yesterday he had been a puppy. Today he was an adolescent catching his first whiff of competition. Tomorrow...who knew? Back at the camper, Katriel took a cautious sniff around the truck, but no one had visited long enough to leave a scent. Satisfied, she held the door for Ray. Inside, she dug out the buffalo jerky and found one of her second hand, dog eared western romance novels. "Try some," she invited. "I'm just going to read while you take a nap. I hope you don't mind. I usually don't have time for it and it's one of my guilty pleasures."

Ray couldn't help but smile when he saw Katriel smile, he didn't think it was possible for her to look anymore beautiful than she already did but he was proven wrong. Her smile made him catch him hitch his breathe. He liked the idea of getting a treat from his Alpha, maybe he was allowed one because he defended the 'rig' from the other? He hurried back to the camper wondering what a 'beef jerky' was, he had been feed a substitue for meat back in the store so he was surprised that proper food actively stayed in his stomach! He to checked the 'rig' for any other smells, well he just copied what Katriel was doing. He really just smelled his Alpha, his own scent not really touching the 'rig' nor the other males. maybe I scared him off? he thought to himself as he went inside fully intending on catching some sleep. He took some of the 'beef jerky' and sniffed it, wondering if he should bite or not. Eventually he took a little bite to try and found he quite liked it! So he wolfed down the rest before heading to the bed. "I don't mind Katriel" he said as he made himself comfy and drifted of to sleep again.

Katriel looked up from her book every page or so to watch Ray sleep. His lycan metabolism had brought the glow of life to his face in record time. He was loosing the starved stray look and turning into a robust young man. She knew he was getting stronger, too. In another day or two, if he tried that mounting stunt of his again, she might not be able to get him off...which didn't bother her as much as it should have. She nibbled on the buffalo jerky, savoring the lean, gamey flavor. In her opinion, it was far better than the beef jerky she ate when she couldn't find real meat. She just wished she could take down a real buffalo and have a fresh rump roast. The afternoon darkened and the sun began to set. Katriel put a book marker in her book and got up to make dinner. She decided to make stroganoff. It was a dish she'd learned from a Russian werewolf that had immigrated to the Yukon. It was a great winter dish--full of flavor and thick cream and hearty strips of meat. Her nephews and nieces in Nunavut always begged her to make it when she visited. They were probably full grown by now, and making their own meals. Soon, the scent of sauteed onions, mushrooms and steak filled the cabin of the camper.

Ray turned over in his sleep, he was dreaming. It had started of as a nice dream of Katriel and himself having a picnic in a park somewhere. She was beautiful and smiling at him. He had been about to touch her cheek when the ground beneath him turned black and he fell. He landed in a small room with claw marks on the walls with dried blood covering every inch. He knew it was his own blood. “You’ve been naughty” a voice behind him said, he turned round to see the Manager holding a nine tailed whip in his hands “You need to be punished!” he said as he brought the whip high above him then slammed it into Ray’s back. Over and over again Ray felt the whip hit him. He kept begging for the Manager to stop only to get a laugh in reply. Soon the Manager did indeed stop his onslaught but only so he could beat Ray with his own two hands. This of course didn’t last long as the Manager soon grew tired of the whimpering sound that Ray was making. So he wrapped his hands around Ray’s neck. He could feel the Managers excitement through the mans jeans, the Manager always got of on having power. “You know you like it here…” the Manager whispered before the dream continued in the stores tradition. Ray was known back in the store for talking in his sleep, it was normally the only way others could learn about his past as his sub-conscious would never allow him to view what happened during his final minutes of being human.

Katriel noticed Ray slipping into a nightmare. She knew the pain those terrors could bring, when a creature was readopted in their own personal hell. She went over to him and watched for a moment. When her presence didn't sooth him, she held her hand in front of his nose, careful not to touch him, letting him smell her scent. She hopped he would come out of the nightmare soon, because she really didn't want to forcefully wake him; that could be violent and dangerous for them both.

Ray wiggled around in is sleep, in his mind he knew Katriel was near him. He could smell her! He managed to wake himself up, he blinked several times trying to catch his breathe. "T-thank you" he breathed out, he thought about his nightmare. It had been recent maybe a day or two before Katriel had entered his life. Boy was he glad that she did enter his life, who knew if he would still have been around?

Katriel smiled and lowered her hand to stroke his slightly damp cheek. He had been sweating in his dream. It must have been awful. "You're welcome," she replied softly. "Whenever you feel like eating, let me know. I have some dinner cooking. Just something to tide us over until the moon rises. Is your arm going to be ok for the Change? I mean I know you won't be running but I don't want the bones separating either. A lame wolf is often a dead wolf, and if you ever want to make alpha, you can't afford to permanently damage a limb."

Ray sighed to himself as Katriel stroked his cheek, he was hungry yes but at the same time he couldn't help but feel as though that the younger wolf would come back. He sniffed the air slightly, the food smelled good that was for sure. His stomach grumbled as he smelled the food "Maybe in a bit" he said, he thought about her question, was his arm going to ok for the change? If he remembered correctly he had changed with broken ribs and a broken leg before so he should be fine. "I think my arm will be ok," he started of "my ribs and leg were ok the last time" he said laughing a wee bit, he had tried to joke about it. The 'lame wolf' part of her explanation confused him, what did she mean by 'lame wolf'? He raised his good arm in order to hug her and hesitated, would a hug be seen as him trying to force her into something? He slowly lowered his arm anyways, better to be safe than sorry. He wasn't able to really defend himself should he find himself in another fight. He remained alert just in case the younger male did indeed come back. ((ooc: Sorry I've had internet problems and my dog has been ill))

"Don't look so anxious," Katriel said. "There's planet of food, good company, and if you gave as good as you got, your rival is probably licking his wounds somewhere far away. We're safe and secure for the moment." She went back to the stove and stirred the stroganoff so it wouldn't burn and to keep herself busy. This was her first change in years with someone else. She was a little nervous but mostly excited, even if they weren't going to run. "We'll change in here and wait the night out together. It's not ideal, but you won't be going anywhere with that broken arm, and I'm not tempting fate by leaving you alone again,"she teased. ((No worries. Glad to have you back. Hope your dog is ok.))

Ray looked at her grinning, he was sure that he had given as good as he got. He agreed wholeheartedly at the good company part, he wouldn't trade Katriel for the world! "I just don't want him coming back and hurting you" he said standing up and walking over to her, he had changed in the store before but he was normally chained to a wall in a room so he could be severely hurt afterwards. It was his first change completely free. He didn't really mind the fact that they weren't going running, what he was excited about was that he was with Katriel and that he could see her wolf form! "Good, don't think Iwant to tempt fate either!" he laughed as he looked at the food over her shoulder, his arm wasn't sore and it felt as though it was healing nicely. ((ooc: her a**l glands have burst, so shes in pain and isn't eating sad ))

"Ha! As if some little punk could hurt me," Katriel laughed as she served up two bowls of stroganoff and set them on the counter so they could cool a little bit. "I've been on my own for a long while and I've been fighting werewolves my whole life. Mostly play fights, but there was this one b***h who wanted to take away my mate. And there were always mutts coming through, thinking they could join or take over the pack by knocking a few heads together." She felt a chill go down her spine and all the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. She sucked in her breath and curled her fingers in anticipation. The sun had just set. The moon would be rising within half an hour. It was almost time. ((That sucks on so many levels.))

Ray laughed with Katriel, he had a feeling that she could fend for herself quite well in a fight but that didn't stop him from worrying about her. As soon as he saw the food on the table he was right at it, taking it whole mouth fulls. He didn't care about the heat of it. being in the store had taught him to eat whatever he got whenever he got something. He knew his mouth was going to blister from the food but he wasn't bothered by that he just wanted to eat it as quickly as possible to ensure that Katriel didn't steal from him. Hearing her speak made him smiled through the food. He to had felt a chill go down his spine and his hairs stand on end (he didn't know that Ktriel felt this). This feeling made him finish his meal quickly. Something in the back of his mind was whispering of chains and whips, he knew that the nearer the full moon got the worse it would get. ((she is taking her meds which is a good thing, we're going to put tuna through her food to get her to eat it smile ))
