((Seth is targeting Cage 4))

Seth had his head in the clouds as he was trying to digest all the information that they had been given and to figuring out the best possible way for him to effectively use his time. That was until he heard a familiar voice call out that they needed Runic Hunters over to help them out. "Oh s**t," he whispered to himself at the sorta spacing his job of helping out and not his head in the clouds.

Quickly he went to were he heard the voice and saw that it was Gabby that had called out for some help. On his way he had grabbed one of the trapping guns and fired it at the creature.

Yes he said to himself as the creature was captured. "Sorry for not coming over sooner, Gabby." he said to the Mist Hunter and knew if she was going to yell at her he knew he deserved it. He had thought that all the creature for the prep-work were being held down for the Fear Hunters. "I do think that this creature is ready for any Fear Hunters," he said as he was focusing on keeping his hold on the creature.

[[ Mira is targeting Cage 4]]

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Mira wasted no time in turning her attention toward the fourth cage. In fact, the very moment she was sure the final runic hunter had helped snag the creature, she made her move. She took off at a run, jumping high into the air as she neared the cage. She pulled out her machete, Silverfang, bringing him downward so that he would cut the creature as she made contact back with the ground. She landed as gracefully as she had started, making it clear that she had done this many times before.

After her weapon acquired a successful charge, she turned to look at each hunter. She didn't say a word, instead giving each a nod and half bow, It was her way of showing her respect and admiration for their work. Talking was something she tried to avoid as the more you got to know someone, the more attached you become. She had lost too many friends in battle and while that went hand in hand with her division, it didn't make it any easier.

When it came to conversations, she preferred to have them with her weapon.
"Thirsty for more?" she teased him. It was a question that really needed no answer though he gave one anyway in a simple reply, "Always." They needed one more charge and since she had him out, it seemed a good moment to refocus her attention back on the creature for second attack.

[[Mira is targeting Cage 4]]

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. At such a close range, there was really only one option and that was to simply stab the creature with her machete. Mira took hold of the cage with her left hand and thrust Silverfang between two bars and deep into the creature's abdomen, or at least where she'd imagined it would be if he had one. The machete vibrated slightly as the second charge was absorbed and she withdrew her arm and backed away from the cage. Others would need to charge their weapons and she knew she had went a little too far with her second attack.

She took her free hand and ran it threw the hair. She kept half her head shaved, an homage to her fallen comrades that only she could understand. The half she kept was long, straight and a beautiful chocolate shade.

"We did well," Silverfang noted in a whispery voice. It was strange how he always whispered, even after all these years. It was as if he was afraid of being overheard despite the fact that only she could hear him.

Mira couldn't help but grin as she slid Silverfang back into his sheathe. While she was growing weary of certain aspects of being a hunter, she did enjoy the fighting. Even when it came to something simple like acquiring charges, it still felt good to sink her weapon into an abomination. It was the only thing about being a hunter that hadn't faded with each passing year, and it was often a game between she and her weapon to determine which one of them were more bloodthirsty.

Still holding the grappling gun, though now holding at her side, Amy relaxed just a bit. While it looked like the other Runic hunters had a handle on the creatures (damn her aim!) it would take a few minutes for the Fear hunters to fully charge their weapons.

In some ways, she envied those with Fear weapons. It would be handy to be able to recharge during battle and she couldn't deny that some of those weapons were powerful. But she wasn't sure how she felt about the whole 'something else in her head' thing. She knew hunters that hated it and others that loved it. Not that she could really form an opinion about it, having never experienced it.

Amy shook her head. Now was the time to focus, not think about trivial matters. Still holding the gun in one hand, she moved back towards the stairs to take a seat and await the next phase of the mission.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Gabriela felt a grin tug at her mouth when Heidi successfully caught the prey. "Good to see you've got your focus!" she smirked, the compliment directed at Heidi while at the same time acting as a light jab at Jamisson. There were more missed attempts, and Gabby made note of those who looked at the very least like they intended to do better next time and those who acted otherwise.

At Seth's apology, the Mist Hunter only grunted, "Be quicker on your feet, Seth, this is just prep-work. The real mission hasn't even started." It was a grim warning but at least the kid was the fourth Runic they needed. Watching Mira have at the creature, Gabby waited to see if there were any other FEAR Hunters who needed to charge their weapons. "Good aim you got there," she noted of the first FEAR Hunter to charge from the blob-like creature.

New Year's Eve.

Time Square was crowded, but Warden did not, at least, feel too claustrophobic about this. It was not constrained to simply the Deus Ex Machina headquarters, after all, which meant that the two hundred plus Hunters were not all crammed into a building not meant to hold two hundred plus Hunters. Considering the fact that at most times they were all spread out on missions, outposts, and Elsewhere, the Deus Ex headquarters had never been so filled before.

But now they were out on their mission, and it was more crowded out here than the island had ever been. Thousands of people jostled, pushed, shouted, laughed, and chattered in the timeless and widely known place, all awaiting the shift of the years, the change into the millennium.

Warden held no mistake in thinking they were here to do something light, however; this mission was crucial and it was dangerous - that much, at least, was concrete knowledge.

He stood silently, listening to Liam speak, making sure not to miss a single word. To miss something almost certainly could mean death, and if he were to die tonight (it was a possibility on almost every mission he had undertaken in the outpost, after all), it would not be because of his own stupidity.

Carefully, he waited for his moment. The creatures in the cages were all being restrained by the Runic Hunters, and when it came time, Warren tugged idly at the fingerless gloves stretched over his hands.

Ready, Tee?

-- Ready. --

There was a flash of light, and the gloves shifted, dissolving into the air. They reformed a moment a later, as two long, sharply pointed sai swords held nimbly between Warren's fingers, glinting in the dim florescent lights from the abandoned bank.

He swung one around, waited for the opportune moment, and then struck, fierce and fast.

Ah, there he was! How had she missed her love when he was only just over there, only meters away from where she stood herself? Oh well, no matter. She stood back and watched as her incredibly talented and extremely good looking boyfriend went to work with his mighty sword Robert, striking at the beast within cage two. His first strike was marvelous! She chose to ignore the one where he had missed. He was likely just trying to be modest and had done it on purpose so as not to make the other hunters feel overwhelmed by how great he was~

And then the second strike hit, and she could see that he was finished. She couldn't even hear the Runic Hunters over by cage four calling as they needed help holding down the monster. Her eyes and ears were only for her sweet Julien. She began to move towards him, adoration plain in her dark eyes as each step brought her closer to him.

"You did brilliantly!" She smiled, reaching her hands out towards his as she looked up towards his breath-taking face.

They were here to stop the apocalypse. Not some freaky b*****d from X-men, no, the ACTUAL APOCALYPSE. The very thought had the normally dutiful runic hunter standing right where he was as the others did all the work. Clint looked pale under his dark skintone, and an almost crazy sheen covered his brown eyes that wasn't noticed, or probably wasn't even recognized among the crowd of hunters. Every single one of them probably had had this moment before.

He was going to die. That wasn't that big of a surprise, in fact he was daily shocked by the fact that he was still alive after the night before. But this wasn't hunting boogeymen hiding under children's beds, or even taking out grim reapers (and Clint seriously HATED grim reapers. Creepy a** bastards were nothing more than serial killers.) This was the apocalypse. The whole story from the BIBLE. Which, y'know, he'd never really bothered to read that part, but still--

They were goin' up against stuff WAY out of his league. But...

He had a job to do. Let the leaders deal with pissin' off God.

His second hit was just as practiced and concise. The blade in his right hand spun around, and Warren slammed it into the creature's midsection without a second thought. He was never hesitant about hurting these monsters, though at first he had been. Grim-faced and taken aback by the sudden and abrupt methods used by the Hunters, at first Warren had not exactly liked their ways of doing things. But after years of being a Hunter - almost a decade, after all - he had long since become deadened to the cries, whimpers, angry lashing out, and snarls of the creatures they fought.

They did not belong here, after all.

He could feel Tee thrumming in his hands, the metal cool and smooth. She was ready to attack further now, the buildup of FEAR within her system charged and prepared for battle, but even Warren knew now was not the time.

What was going to become of them all, after this? The tension was thick in the air, and Warren's eyes searched the room for the one person he knew he could rely on, in spite of everything. It might have been weak, but since he did not need Billie in order to act, it was not as if he were useless without her. He did his work, she did hers, and if there was a chance of doing it together, he would take it.

But focus was everything here. Neither one of them could afford to make mistakes.

User Image Billie had been quiet, contemplative, as their mission was dictated. It wasn't the first time a speech like this was given but with the numbers in which they were gathered it was one of the first times she was feeling dread. This really may be a last mission for all of them. But she couldn't help, as she thought of the New Years revelers, to be extra determined in her resolve.

They could not fail.

The cages were crowded and it took a while before she could even slip in to approach one. Billie giggled as she pinched Warden's bum when he was done attacking and then with a wink she stomped her foot. Unseen, the ankle bracelet she wore flashed and disappeared and the large runic staff formed in her hands.

Billie took a step forward and thrust the staff into the monster's gut and in her head Dekina grunted approval.

YES.

Happy finally that Argyll was charged up, Dave figured it was about time to go and hunt down Jess. He was disturbed by the implications of being part of a first assault without the runic hunters, it sounded a great deal to him like another way of saying "You are on the front line" which in hunter speak to him sounded like "this is desperate and the ones with fear shields will be sacrificial lambs". Still. Thirty minutes to survive. Sounded easy, he figured it would be anything but that.

You should tell her you know. Before you leave. he felt his stomach twist up at the words of his faithful weapon. She knew him as well by now as he knew himself. "I can't afford to complicate things before a huge mission, everyone needs to be clear in their own mind, no ties, no regrets. Survival." he replied mentally. That's what they tell you, you don't believe it though, or you wouldn't be so scared this time. She was right he had to admit, he was scared for one of the first times in his life.

Because this time he had something to lose.

Robert was charged, and everything was good to go. The sword was making low grumpy noises as Julien was greeted by his girlfriend. Julien's face almost split with the force of his smile, and soon enough the tall lean man had his arms wrapped around Mya tightly. The news of their mission was troubling him, tickling at the back of his thoughts now that he wasn't concentrating on the monster in cage two. It was true what had been said, this sort of mission wasn't one that many people were going to come back from. But Julien knew that he would make it back to Mya, there was no other option.

"Mya darling. Thank you... I..."

He trailed off, unsure of what to say next. His throat felt dry, and the blonde man didn't have the words he wanted to say. Less than half an hour before he would be jumping through the portal with Robert and possibly not coming back. He couldn't freak out, despite the growing dread building within him. He wouldn't put Mya past that. She was a Runic hunter, and his darling would be as safe as possible on this side. He simply leaned down and pressed his cold, thin, pale lips onto her forehead softly.

Robert....I really don't need this now.

Ignoring what Robert was saying, Julien just continued to hold his lady love. She was wonderful, perfect, and everything he had ever needed to complete his life. Life had been dull and dreadful until his Mya had shown him light and joy. The thought of leaving her without telling her how much she meant to him... or without whatever it was he needed to say... well that just wouldn't do.

"Everything will be okay Mya darling. Everything will be okay."

Like she needed to be comforted. She was Mya; strong, tough, and amazing. He was the one who needed comforting, he was just hiding it to feel more like a man. And so that maybe Robert would leave him alone about it all.

User ImageAlmost immediately after her first thrust, Billie skillfully swung the staff in both hands and hit the creature under the chin with the other end of her staff. This end was the topper, a round circular symbol carved with runes. As soon as it hit the runes flashed to life with green light.

Billie stepped back and leaned casually on her staff. She was well practiced at ignoring the animalistic panting that came from Dekina when she was fully charged. The wavy haired hunter only hoped it would be a while before she needed her charged move... it was a healing power after all.

Crap! She really needed to stop spacing out . . . It was like her mind kept going back to the angry sounds of her brothers in the background, and though she finally caught Lee's name, by the time Zoey could react one of the other Hunters had yelled for extra hands on a different cage - and them promptly several Runic Hunters, including Lee, finished the job off.

And then she heard Cliff's sad harmonica song, which made her drift again; music had that effect on her for some reason, especially with the iconic timbre of the small instrument - it was like Cliff did everything he could to bring the South with him. Home. Zoey almost felt tears rising, but several blinks warded them off.

Giving a small, if not embarrassed, nod to Lucas (as their job was seemingly finished before she could lift a hand to help, which didn't make her want to linger lest she look all the worse in his eyes), the young Hunter decided it was time to find Isaac and sort out this mess quickly. Not that it was hard to, even with the two-hundred or so Hunters around. "Hey . . ." she called a little before she reached out to touch his arm.

Normally she didn't say much, and it was definitely her eyes that said it all at the moment: "What was that all about?"
