"Well, sure. I don't get treated half as well back there as I have been here, even with my rank." Lies, all of it. She had run of the science-mill, had met with Lucere a few times, and decided for herself what she got to do- unless ordered to work on a specific project. It was perfect. But for now... she needed to be here.
"Besides. Galactic keeps getting the best of us- Team Rocket." It hurt on the inside to say all these things. "Which isn't surprising, considering all of those mechs." Nyx shrugged.

Star eyed Nyx critically, brow furrowing. "...look." He turned to face her. "I understand what you're doing.. getting on the boss's good side. Acting like one of us. And I'm not going to tell him. But please, promise me you'll help me once you're done here. When you leave, take me with you. I can't contact Team Rocket on my own, I need your help. I can't stay here. You don't know what it's like! The abuse." He lifted up the side of his shirt high enough to show the mottled purple leftovers of bruising over his ribcage. A fresh bruise looked to be forming over his solar plexus as well. "Look what the Commander did to me! If the tiniest detail fails to meet her standards she starts throwing punches." The tone of his voice had turned rather abruptly to blatant pleading.

Nyx had to wonder, if Tethys abused everyone like the Galactic claimed she did to him--with rather convincing evidence to support the claim--why weren't there more of them fleeing the organization?
Nyx winced ever so slightly at the shrill tone the man's pleas had taken. "I'm sorry, Star. I'm not planning on leaving." She didn't sound terribly sympathetic, despite her apologies. "Team Rocket would take you, but you'll have to find another way." Nyx swung her legs back and forth from on top of the desk in a rather carefree way.

Star stared at Nyx several moments before shoving his shirt back down. This one was a hard nut to crack. He changed tactics.
"Oh no.. no it's fine." His voice had turned small. Sad. As good as he was at feigning emotions, he tended to shift between them a little too rapidly when he wasn't sincere.
"I get it. Whatever mission you're on.. it's more important than me, I'm sure. I'll manage without your help." He stared miserably at the floor, doing his best to look small and helpless. "You don't have to worry."

Nyx quirked and eyebrow at Star. He was suddenly acting less like someone who was pleading for help and more like a child who's mother had refused them ice cream and was now letting her know that she didn't love him. "I'm sure you'll find a way." He was right- her mission was more important than him. "Why don't you tell Deimos what that Tethys is doing?"

"Nothing on this planet could make Deimos think poorly of his second in command." Star muttered. This wasn't working.. and he was running out of tricks.

Star blinked. "Erm.. no.. no that isn't necessary." It was obvious he'd been caught off guard. He tried to recover, shaking his head and waving a hand dismissively, "Just forget I said anything. There's no reason to bring it up with the Boss."

"Really? Alright, if you say so. I'm sure he'd listen to me, though." It was suspicious that Star didn't want her to bring it up to Deimos, the one person in the organization who could help him out without him needing to drag her into helping him flee.

"I said it's not necessary." Star snapped. He was running out of time. Deimos had probably figured out the missing part by now. If he squandered the chance to get information from the Rocket Tethys would make him regret it. He considered the sensation of cold metal on his chin and the Commander standing over him with her gun.
Impatience won over. "Look, I know this is an act!" He shouted abruptly, grabbing Nyx by the arm, "Tell me what you're planning or I'll drag it out of you!"

Nyx's casual demeanor changed when Star grabbed her. She gave him a dark stare, her black eyes fixed on the fresher bruise he'd shown her during his act of trying to make her feel sorry for him. The elite rocket agent reared back her free fist and struck at his solar plexus. A favorite spot today it seemed.

Star's loss of temper was rewarded with blinding pain. As usual.
The sharp blow to the already tender spot sent the Galactic tumbling backward. He released his hold on Nyx and doubled over, choking for air.

"I'll advise you to keep your hands off of me." Nyx said flatly before hopping off of the desk and storming out of the room and back towards the observation deck.

"No... wait...." Star wheezed in a barely audible voice, still coughing and gasping. With a groan, he struggled to his feet and hurried out of the room after Nyx, hugging his stomach.
Unfortunately for Star, Deimos and Tethys had arrived back at the observation deck moments before Nyx. Deimos perked up when the fluffy-haired Rocket appeared, "Oh there you are! We were about to send a team to find you." He looked around her when Star stumbled through the doors after her. "Star!" He waved, "Got the problem all sorted. It's the silliest thing, you forgot to install one of the power supply modules!"
Star'd skidded to a halt when he found Deimos and Tethys on the other side of the doors. Of course they'd already seen him so he couldn't exactly turn around and run back inside.
"..how foolish of me.." He answered Deimos, still wheezing and holding one arm around his stomach as he approached. He was making an effort not to look at Tethys.

Deimos' second in command was standing just behind and to the left of him, hands clasped behind her back. She had followed Deimos to the robotics lab, where a polite inquiry on how things went during her absence had sparked rhapsodies about gossamer hair and shining eyes - and interest! He was making progress!
In other words, it hadn't gone well.
Upon Star's.. less than graceful entrance, she narrowed her eyes and arched a brow. This did not look anything like success.
"You are out of breath," she observed.
