L is the best character.
He should've totally defeated Light hands down! There's just no way that Near and Mello measure up to him. Besdies, even Light has a weakness, but L deosn't really.
OKay he does, but he's still the best!

Mello I feel is very underrated simply due to
err spoiler?
1) being L's replacement which doesn't go well with mourning L fans >.>
2) One or two scenes where he totally screwed up :/.
