As their little party of three approached the huge building that was the dining hall, Deimi sniffed the air a little, her sharp, lupine nose easily detecting the medley of food smells.
She was starting to relax for the most part, the scents driving away her thoughts about how she almost flipped the ******** out at the candy store earlier, not to mention she had her iPod earbuds in, listening to The Birthday Massacre's 'Video Kid' with the volume turned down, which was helping to take the edge off a little too.
It wasn't usually normal for her, nowadays at least, to show that degree of anger, especially around new friends, and she knew the incident had deeply unnerved her brother, who had been morbidly quiet after they'd suggested and agreed on going to the dining hall.
To be honest, Deimi hadn't even meant to flip out, it was just that, the comments that the goth girl at the register brought back those horrid flashbacks of their earlier years at the old orphanage for the first time in quite a while, years at least....
They had come here to Mitomi in hopes of starting fresh, a clean slate, and to leave all of that behind them for good, she just hoped another incident like that would not happen anytime soon, or else the two of them might end up repeating what they had come here to get away from...
At least Deimi was trying to curb her Yandere nature, even if it wasn't always successful, but she was still rather embarrassed and ashamed at herself for nearly going on an all-out killing spree.
Going through the huge doors of the dining hall, she thought she saw another odd looking trio, two cat people, one looking much bigger that the other one, and a fox woman with nine tails, coming out, disappearing out of sight just as quickly as they'd passed.
As they made their way towards the seating and serving/buffet area, she decided to break the ice, and looked to Charles, " Again, sorry for that whole scene at the candy store and all.... what that girl said to you and Remi, I guess it kinda got to me, little moment of motherly protectiveness, y'know?" she said, trying to manage a small smile and a light laugh towards the last few words, trying to joke about it a little, even though she probably wasn't succeeding all that much.
She sighed softly to herself and shook her head, before managing a smile again, being more successful this time, and tilted her head to him, " But, if you don't mind, could you do me a solid and take Remi to go get the food while I find us a table?"
There weren't many people present in the dining hall, it seemed, it wouldn't take too long to find a table either way.
Remi had been traveling between his sister and Charles the whole time, trying to get his mind off of what had happened at the candy store.
What that girl had said to him... he couldn't help but feel that it had sounded so similar to his experience at the old orphanage...
The very thought of that made him shiver visibly, and he instinctively wrapped his arms around himself, as if he were cold, even though it was quite warm outside, his ears flat against his head, his tail tucked between his legs like a scared puppy, which he might as well have been.
Even though the smell of cooked food from the dining hall relaxed his senses a little, they did nothing to drive back the terrible memories, the multiple beatings and the name callings he had to endure every day... how the other children would dance around them mockingly, jeering and chanting out 'Wolf freak! Wolf freak!' for what seemed like hours... and then the depression he went through after Deimi had been dragged away to the institution.
It made him nauseous, remembering how he cried himself to sleep every night, isolated and alienated himself from everyone else, refusing to eat with the others... He knew he should've been at least somewhat happy that the other children had stopped bullying him after what his sister had done, but with her gone, it had seemed like just an empty victory, nothing special...
He was snapped out of his terrible nostalgia as Deimi spoke to Charles, apologizing to him for the scene she made at the candy store, and asked him if he could take the little wolf boy to go get the food while she got a table for them.
A moment of sickening fear crossed his mind, and, without thinking, his hands instantly shot out and grabbed hers tightly, " No!" he yelped, trembling as he hugged her hand to him, as if he didn't want to ever let her go.
" Come with us, please, we can all just go get our food together," Remi said softly in an almost pleading voice, looking to his sister with huge, red puppy dog eyes.
Deimi was surprised when Remi grabbed her hand the moment she asked Charles to take him to go get the food, but, telling from how he was shaking like a leaf, his begging tone of voice, and the puppy dog eyes he was giving her, he was afraid.
She smiled to him, gently squeezing his hands, and nodded, " Or we can do that, no problem~" she chirped, before she looked up to Charles with a sheepish expression on her face, " Sorry about that, Remi has a bit of a... what's it called... slightly 'chronic' fear of separation, little bit of childhood traumatization, y'know?"
