West was too busy brushing off his clothing to notice the mild amount of pet commotion going on around him. He imagined he was now covered with invisible dog hair but, try as he might, he couldn't actually see it to brush it off, which was not surprising in the least. It was only after Professor Malcolm yelled for the class's attention that he gave it, and then only reluctantly until the man brought out the whips. Yes, that would do nicely.

He waited until Vlad dragged the box past, fingers twitching in anticipation, then snatched one of the weapons quickly, gathering its tail in his hands. He didn't give a crap whether or not it actually hurt Hate, it was the thought that counted.

The bull was only just now coming to after its brief foray into Sleepyland, and it wasn't happy about its trip in the slightest. Once it had the strength to do so it hopped to its feet, stumbling a little, and reared back, an action that would have been far more menacing in a larger animal. As it was, Hate was only the size of an average dog and its macho posturing only amused its master. The demon stood, a gleeful glint in his eyes, and brandished the whip, bringing it down once and chuckling in satisfaction as Hate looked dreamily up at him.

West turned to face his classmates, still grinning broadly. "I'll hitannyone's pets who'dun wanna doit themselves," he offered. What had Professor Malcolm said about excessive whip use? West raised his arm and brought the whip down on Hate's back for a second time. Whoops.

"There's really no need to say sorry; you just don't want to see Vlad upset later." He replied the two ghouls simply, smiling a little as he reached down to pat the invisible dog, "While he had been trained - through some of the methods I would be sharing with you in later classes - he is still the little wild pup I found years ago inside. When you train your Minipets, you don't train away their character... Just the habits that might endanger their life and yours."

Junko's reaction made the professor laugh, "Yes, it'll reduce their energy levels, but they will not be knocked out. Ah, if Sayuri does that a lot, I recommend Minipet-proofing your room to stop it from hurting itself." He frowned lightly, releasing his hold on the end of the whip, "Its normal for Minipets who are close to each other to play-fight, and it keeps them healthy and happy too. I guess in your case, after Minipet-proofing your room, set up an area - like a playpen for children, but sturdier - for them to wrestle in. Let them do it once before bed - don't stop them. Before classes, you might have to leash them and take them out on a run to help lower energy levels. If that doesn't wear them out, use the whip - yes, I'm giving you the whip to keep. As it had already bonded with Sayuri, it will not work on Kuro... But since you said that Sayuri is normally the cause of any misbehavior, it should be fine. I also have some other recommendations for you - I'll pen them down and have Vlad send it to your dorm at a later date."

He liked students like Junko - a heart that genuinely cares for the wellbeing of her Minipets and not just pamper them mindlessly... Then again, he was biased; his view on pampering was probably different from the rest of the class'.

He then paused briefly, eying Colette with a sheepish smile, "While I'm sure many of you won't agree with me, I only teach what I had tried and worked for me before... Of course, there is no 'set of rules' where training is concerned; if there was, I would just write a book on it instead of coming here to class."

Gesturing at the Reigndeer, Malcolm nodded, "Dasher seems like it is not too badly behaved. While it doesn't listen to you, it doesn't bolt either - so you should be able to catch it if it ever runs into trouble... Honestly, it reminds me of a goat more than a reindeer, with all that constant chewing and staring into space." He chuckled, reaching out for the Minipet in the ghoul's arm, stroking the top of its head gently, "I wish that there is more research on their species, but they are new to this world and what I know is limited as well..."

He tapped on the top of Dasher's maw gently before tugging at the piece of carpet in its mouth, "It is not healthy to chew on carpet, Dasher... It might get stuck in your teeth and cause you discomfort, and whatever you swallow might cause your stomach to fail... Try this instead." He produced a small packet and poured its contents out; Fear candy. However, these ones were a dull green - apparently, he does a lot of cooking in his spare time. Holding one up in front of Dasher's nose to allow it to smell the grass-flavored/scented Fear candy, he grinned, "Would you like to trade? I would hate to see you get hurt over a piece of carpet. Besides, this is healthy and tasty!"

Not that most Minipets understand him, but the smarter ones do get him based on facial expression and tone alone. Experience speaks for itself.

He was also trying not to say anything to West for using the whip twice in a roll... He was pardoned only because the second whip was an accident. Or at least, it looked like an accident.

Maritess scooped up the dozing purple tentacle with one arm, the other holding the whip by her side as leather wings fluttered towards the spider demoness. "I don't think I quite like using whips," she sighed to Lizzy while she looked at where she assumed Jimmy was. "Think there's a more... um, solid alternative?" What Tess really wanted was a slipper to use on Trixie. What? If it was good enough for her younger cousins, it was good enough for her minipet!

She'd heard West's offer to discipline their pets for them and as tempting as it was, she didn't think she should. At least, not with Professor Malcolm looking. "Professor? Does it have to be a whip?" she asked, raising the hand that held the aforementioned disciplining device.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 24, 2011 6:05 am

"Neither do I... Although what do you mean by 'solid'?" Lizzy sighed, inclining her head to look at Tess. She looked rather upset as she whisked Jimmy off the floor, putting the sleeping Reigndeer on her lap; all it did was to touch the whip! However, upon seeing Malcolm's demonstration on Junko's Minipet, the Demoness understood a little; she didn't mind using it as a toy to distract and calm Jimmy down. However, the form of a whip was still rather unnerving... It looked harsh as a punishment even if the professor said it would do no bodily harm!

---------------------

"The whistle is too expensive, apparently," Malcolm looked rather mournful at Tess' question, "I tried, but there were some budget constrains... And you do not argue with Hellma when she says 'no'... Then again, it won't stay a whip forever." The last part of his sentence was muttered, like it was meant only for his own ears, as it looked like he didn't wish to talk about what he was referring to. He then paused, gesturing to Junko's sleepy Sayuri.

"Did you try what I did with Junko's fox? Use it as a toy instead of... You know, as a whip."

Oh my Jack!” Natalia exclaimed as the invisible dog (or, rather the harness) dropped to one side. Even though there were no cries, and despite the fact that there were soft snores coming from the area surrounding the pet; the werelemur freaked. “You…what have you done?!” She spoke again, this time much lower and mostly to herself. All the while, Right On arched his neck and squeezed into an awkward, yet closer, position to his owner.

No. There was no way she would whip her little pathling like that. What if he reacted differently to the whip?! What if it was a spell that could kill him?! What if he had Hemophilia?! Whips left marks and cuts and bruises...and plus, not every pet was the same! Right On could be the one pathling who would suffer a terrible fate! Natalia wrung her hands together, arms still wrapped around her fuzzy minipet snuggly, while her eyes scanned the room. Malcom wandered and interacted with the other students, one by one offering different outlets to different situations. For each, he seemed to customize a plan or method that would work best for whatever pet was questioned...There had to be another way for Right On as well…

Excuse me?” The ghoul said, having lifted onto her feet and crept over. A look of desperation was deep within her gaze as she brought forth the worries had to the professor. “Excuse me sir, but I don’t think whipping my boy would solve his problem.

Clearing her throat, Natalia continued. “You see, Right On has this wonderful imagination, at least I think he does, to the point where he cries, kicks, rams, or otherwise mutilates my sheets in the middle of the night. I did some research and read up on Night Terrors? I don’t know if it applies to pets too, but if it does then that is what I believe is wrong. I don’t want to use the whip.” At first she seemed to stammer the last part, biting down on her lip and brushing strands of blue hair away from her face. However she straightened slightly and held firm to her decision in the end, nodding her head once as if to confirm this.

At her feet sat the Pathling with his head tilted down, the entire length of his body pressed against his owners leg. As Natalia gripped the leash, Right On reacted by scrambling on top of her feet, releasing a whimper.

After a moment of staring and rolling her eyes, Natalia groaned. “I mean…I’ll admit that I do pamper him, so lessons on that would benefit our relationship greatly but…I don’t know, I don't think that would be the reason why he would have all these horrible nightmares. I just hope that there is another way to solve our dilemma?” Batting her lashes and poking out her lower lip, the ghoul extended the hand that had gripped the whip and tried to pass it over to her professor.

Amrita was in deep thought, contemplating what she should do with the whip. It wasn't that Death Charm was overly exciteable or too energetic for her to handle, what she couldn't handle was the affection from the fire beast whose Mother practically killed all of her friends. That was tough to get past! Not to mention that the occasional sneeze or yawn set something of hers on fire - fire was still her greatest fear. Her gaze moved from the whip she was passing between her reversed hands to the lazily flicking tail of the waking Death Charm on the other side of the shoe rack.

The malicious part of her wanted to use it on DC without hesitation. Put some fear of her into the beast, perhaps make it stop trying to follow her everywhere. Though the other part of her said that it would be wrong to use it; not only was DC being a good boy and leaving her alone (at least at the moment, outside of ignoring her command to sit), but it never really did anything directly to her. You know, aside from being made from the thing she fears most and trying to follow her everywhere.

"Professor Malcom!" Amrita called, waving her hand to get the teacher's attention; she was NOT going any closer to the fire. "What if they're being decently good now, but will definitely stop being even remotely good outside of class?"

With Hani asleep on her lap, the whip was moot. Yaya was hoping the little scareon remained asleep for the remainder of the class, and continued running her thumbs along soft blue ears. A gesture that was just as comforting to the marid as it would have been to the dream had it actually been awake. Hopefully though, the continued petting would keep her asleep.

Yaya would raise her head though to see how the others around her were handling this new "tool" for training their minis. Some seemed to be embracing it, others were very much opposed to it. It seemed to be split almost completely down the middle. Of course none seemed so excited about the whips then Westus, and the marid's eyes narrowed at the avarice demon as his whip landed on Hate twice. Usually she liked his extreme behavior and emotions, but putting an item like that whip in that boil's hand was a bad idea.

Vaguely she wondered if her glaring at him would make the mark on his back itch or burn. She really hoped it did right that moment. If she wasn't so certain flaunting the bond in class would land one, if not both of them in trouble, she'd have been happy to exercise her hold over him in a very colorful way right then and there.

It seemed a number of students hesitated to use the sleep devices... however, Malodore was not among them. Parassiti woke up from her temporary trance growling, her claws digging into the carpet again - and Malodore 'cracked' the whip. Not hard, as Parassiti was on the small side and it didn't want to cause her any accidental injury.

The whip made that odd, sibilant hiss as it passed through the air, and Parassiti went entirely limp as the tip lightly smacked her back. Malodore opened its beak in a smile. Magnifico! Sadly, the thing didn't seem to have a lot of range, but surely it was kinder than having Luce tackle Parassiti to get her to stop rampaging?

Riley took her whip, eyeing it critically. She still held Cam in her other hand, by the scruff of his slimy skin. It, too, was glaring at the whip with a critical eye. She looked from the whip, to the Cthulhu, and back to the whip again. She did this a few times, before Cthulhu, suddenly realizing it's time was up, came to life in one last, violent display of anger. Tentacles came for her face, determined to suck it right off. A horrid screeing noise followed it's movements.

Hisss.

The whip brushed against the tentacles, which fell suddenly limp. The milky film that the Cthulhu had in place of eyelids covered his bulbous eyes, and it too went limp.

Riley stared at her now-asleep Cthulhu, and then looked at the whip again.

Then it happened.

She curled the Cthulhu up in one arm, and walked straight up to Professor Malcolm. Her eyes looked watery, and overwhelmed with emotion. She did something no one could have expected.

She hugged Professor Malcolm with all her might.

THANK YOU PROFESSOR. OH, THANK YOU.

"Ah, please keep that," He pushed the whip gently away with a soft smile, nodding at Natalia, "Vlad gets a little upset if he doesn't get to collect everything at once." That little 'collection' problem was something that he had been unable to get rid of, even with training... Its an adorable 'bad habit' though, just not in a class full of students who are counting on you to teach them how to manage their Minipets.

"I can only give you tips on how to train Minipets - if you follow my instructions, you will probably stop pampering as much." He sounded rather confident, "However, you are right in saying that Right On does not need the whip-treatment," He nodded with a light chuckle (mostly at the Minipet's unusual name), patting the Pathling on its head before stroking its neck, "Minipets do dream, and so I wouldn't be surprised if they experience night terrors. Did you Minipet-proof your room? Or at least the area Right On sleeps in? I'm... Frankly not very sure what causes night terrors in Minipets since there had been very little research, but I recommend setting a sleep schedule for it to follow - sleep early, and try not to stress it before it sleeps. Make sure that you are consistent, and if it can;t sleep, sooth it until it sleeps. Ah, and please update me on its condition every month or so..."

To Amrita, Malcolm followed her line of sight to the Death Charm she had introduced as... Death Charm. Frowning slightly, he wondered if the two even shared anything like a bond before stroking his chin, "Well, Death Charm - are you sure you do not have a nickname for it? - seems pretty calm and well-behaved to me. What exactly is the problem? Perhaps you could tell me? I would be able to help you better if I know the problem."

Having someone else's voice in his mind was new to him, but Malcolm was too surprised by the purple Demoness' hug to really feel invaded by it. Instead, he spotted the limp Cthulhu in her one arm, and figured that she must had been trying to get the Minipet to listen to her for some time; it must be hard, when Cthulhu as a species seem to hate being ordered around and like being top dog. he awkwardly patted Riley on her back before he smiled, "You are most welcome - in fact, keep the whip... Seems to me like you have to really teach it the meaning of fear, as with Malodore's Scrags... *Don't let them meet - I have a feeling it'll lead to chaos if they ever plot anything."

[OOC: I say let them meet and plot chaos.]

"Malodore, you may keep the whip too." He gestured towards the boil/ghoul/it with a small nod; at least the Plague doctor didn't mind using the whip... That Scrags really needed that! Malcolm don't, however, like the look Yaya had on her face as she looked at West. That boil... He has no self-control!

While West might not have actually felt any discomfort emanating from Hadiyya's mark, he did feel the normal, everyday tingle of disapproving eyes on his back. This room, he decided, was full of wusses. He turned around, intending to seek out some other students' pets to discipline (not realizing that the things didn't work on more than one pet), but when he saw the marid's glare, his grin faded and the hand holding the whip dropped to his side.

Yaya disapproves. (-10)

He frowned, but slowly took his seat without acting out further. If she ordered him to perform a striptease or punch their professor, he was fairly sure his time at this school would come to an end. At the very least, he'd be stuck cleaning toilets until he was thirty. Speaking of toilets, that was now where his mood was located. It hadn't been bad enough that the very existence of this class nullified the whole reason he had ever been marked in the first place, but now he wasn't even allowed to have any fun.

LW could understand what the Professor meant by holding on to the whip so they didn't hurt Vlad's feelings. She had to do that every now and then when getting Callix and Lucifer to make amends with one another. So, she sighed a little and nodded, agreeing that she would at least hold on to it for Vlad's sake. The she-wolf would just have to keep the whip out of Callix's sight. Speaking of Callix, the batling was still doing his jack damned best to appear small and hide. Why did he have to look so damn cute like that?

Feeling someone pet his head, the batling squeaked out a soft cry, thinking it was going to be that scary-rope-thing, but it was a hand. Hesitantly, he uncovered his face and looked up at see a strange man. His head tilted a little not fully understanding what the man said. Something about not being afraid and...what did em...em-barr-ss-ing mean?

She still didn't like having to keep the whip, but she would hold on to it like the Professor suggested. At his question though, LW couldn't help but snort in amusement. "You mean besides me, a female lap and body?" The she-wolf sighed and didn't even have to think on it. "Chocolate." She was pretty sure that the only reason her little man here wasn't plump as a cherry was because of all the exercise he got from the daily Lucifer ambushes.

Maritess chewed nervously on her lower lip as she tried to figure out to explain what she meant to Lizzy without coming across as violent. Just because she supported corporal punishment (by default as her parents most certainly did) didn't necessarily mean she was violent. "A whip is too much like somethin you use in battles. I was, um, thinking more like things you can find in one's room. This way the minipet will know to behave in the room as well and not just when they see the whip? Does that make sense?" Tess doubted that she made sense.

At the professor's answer, Tess couldn't help but be disappointed. If the Headmistress said no already, the winged vampire doubted any appeal could be made. "Professor, could the whip be attached to a belt or maybe a slipper instead?" Where Tess was going to get a belt or slippers (given her current state) was anybody's guess.

Ren let out an amused snort, shaking his head as he glanced over at Rhys again, sitting on the edge of the table and swinging his little feet. He was stubbornly not looking at Ren, a rabbity pout on his face. Ren shook his head, rolling his eye and turning his attention back to Alessa. "I'm sure stubbornness is part of it," he agreed with a smile, then winked. "Although I'm sure stubbornness runs in gryphons as well, so really, we kind of counteract each other here."

Ren's hand froze in mid-motion, hovering just over Alessa's lepus' head. He slanted his gaze to look curiously at her and said mildly "Oh, really? She's a biter, is she?"

Eying Sheelah with a somewhat scruitinizing gaze, Ren let the tips of his fingers brush against the top of her head - very briefly, light, barely even touching her. After a second he pulled his hand away, looking at the nagual.

"Don't want to push my luck here," he said with a laugh, and leaned against the tabletop, looking to his left as the teacher began talking. After a few moments the invisible dog began pacing around the room and Ren suddenly found himself with a whip in his hand.

"Er," he said, slightly flummoxed, and glanced over at Alessa first, then towards LW and Gabrian, sitting on the opposite side of the rabbit nagual. "This is, er..."

Ren was not quite certain a whip was the right answer. As much as he wanted Rhys to be obedient (or, at the very least, civil) the idea of whipping him - even a painless snap - seemed....

He turned back to the professor. "Sorry," he said with a shrug, a mild expression on his face. "But something tells me I won't be using this."

Wrapping the whip up, he threw it lightly back to Professor Malcom.

Amrita stared almost blankly at Professor Malcolm. After a moment she looked away, down towards Death Charm with an unhappy frown. She didn't really feel like bringing up Christmas Town and how Death Charm was probably the spawn of a terrible beast that killed her friends for a short period of time...and besides, there were plenty of post-Christmas events she could inform him of.

"Someone called it DC once?" It could have been her, she didn't remember. But DC wasn't anymore creative than 'Death Charm' was as a name. "But I just call it Death Charm." She assured him, quite serious about the matter. As for what the problem with him was, well...

"It's a fire beast." She said, which by her tone and expression suggested that was really all he needed to know; there was a reason she was behind the shoe rack with her fellow Undeads! "And it's bossy. I tried to put it in the Minipet closet once but it got out somehow, and the next morning my Striped Aria was gone." Of course she used a broom to try and push Death Charm into the closet as she took great pains to not touch him, but the point remained she still tried. "I found it in the closet later though so he didn't eat it." Because that felt like it was important to say.

"It follows me everywhere and it won't listen to me." She lamented sadly, draping her arms over the ledge of the shoe rack; Death Charm had turned his back to the fire and was staring up at her now, looking strangely proud of himself and his accomplishments right down to a happy sway of his tail.

"Oh, and it keeps chasing Jimmy...and I think it tried to eat Scruff once, too." She gestured to Lizzy's Reigndeer and then towards Christof's Scareon.
