Shinken looked up as Michio entered the room with Shisara. He fumbled around his belt until his hand found it’s way into his ryo pouch. He slammed down 200 ryo on the table with drunken force, as he held up an almost empty sake bottle. “Here...I-I drank ur sake. Thish Is for..uh...payback!” The young uchiha slurred as he fell back into the futon. The room was starting to spin, and he knew he had gone a little bit overboard with the booze. He didn’t care though, he was finally in a better mood after everything that had happened that night, and the alcohol had washed away the image of the helpless man gurgling up his own blood. Sayomi sensed her chance to move in on Shinken and didn’t waste any time. She wasn’t quite fast enough however as he rolled over and fell asleep shortly after she cuddled up to him. When shinken woke up in the morning his head was splitting. He didn’t remember anything after he broke into the second bottle of Sake. He pulled his head up off of a surprisingly soft surface. Someone had set him down and covered him with a blanket last night. He looked around with bleary eyes and realized he was on the futon. After a moment of agony he got up and got himself a glass of water. When Michio finally got up Shinken put his idea on the table. “MIchio...I think it would be a great idea if we went to the grand desert market and had a look at what they had for ninja tools. We seem to be sorely lacking in that area.” Shinken said as he went over to the fridge and rummaged around for something to eat. Michio looked to be in thought for a minute before he answered “That’s not a bad Idea Shinken.” Michio replied. After having breakfast the two Ninja said their goodbyes to Sayomi and Shisara, before heading out to the gates of the village and making their way out to the grand market. Kana quaintly bit into his sandwich whilst taking in the sight of the city. He loved his city with all of his heart. It had been instilled in him since the day that his mother had conceived him. The goodwill of the village was more important than the few, and Kana was determined to serve it with pride. He swallowed another bite of his sandwich. Mother always made the best lunches for her favorite little shinobi. "I wonder what i should start training now?" Kana asked himself. Now that he was a Genin it was time to step training up to the next level. Perhaps a little chakra control exercise would be a good warm up. The white haired boy placed his sandwich down on his lunch box then slid his slender hand into his pocket to retrieve a small black book. This black book contained his families training regiments, tips, and tricks. Flipping through the pages his eyes flickered over the words until he found Chakra. "Ahh, here we are!" He exclaimed as he bent the corner of the page as sort of a makeshift bookmark. Before continuing any further Kana snatched his sandwich quickly and chomped another piece off.
He swallowed with a slight gulp then moved his attention back to the book. Skimming through the pages one quote in particular stuck in the back of his brain. The line read to have good chakra control a shinobi will only summon as much chakra as they need to perform whatever is desired. "Ahh, yes this makes sense!" Kana said shaking his head in agreement slightly then taking another bite of his lunch. Continuing to read the book stated that if you summon more chakra than is required the overflow would be nullified and lost. This would result in fatigue faster than if the user practiced good chakra control. Kana continued reading for a bit then laid the book on the rooftop so that it could still be read. Swiping the last bite of his sandwich he quickly finished it then hopped to his feet. He had done a chakra concentration exercise a few times before so this would be easy for him. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out a coin and placed it on his forehead, then folded his hands behind his pack. Kana stood at attention and focused on the coin for a moment. He took a deep breath and then began. Looking inward the young boy could feel his chakra brewing deep within his gut. A light breeze rustled his white strands of hair and brushed against his cheek. It wouldn't distract him from training though. Mentally he began pushing from his stomach to the left side of his body.
His chakra followed accordingly flowing upwards through his arm and into his left hand. "Okay other hand..." Kana whispered to himself. First he would envision it then the chakra would follow, pulsating through his body into the other appendage. The young boy had to be careful though, if he forgot about the coin on his head it would fall thus proving that focus had been lost. The thought lingered in the back of his head as the exercise continued, relocating the chakra down into his feet that lay flat on the rooftop. Jerking his head forwards Kana launched the coin into the air and simultaneously dispersed the chakra that was focused in his feet. With a nimble strike he seized the flying coin into his hand. "Alright that was easy enough..." Muttered the boy as he dropped back down into an Indian style sitting position. Kana picked up the book and began sifting through the walls of text once more, trying to decipher another training exercise that would help him on his way to become the best Shinobi he could be.
Reaching into his launch box he fingered around looking for something else to snack on. He did this for a few moments until he realized there was nothing left! Turning his attention from the book to the lunch box his smile turned into a slight grimace. "No more fooood..." Kana said under his breath. How was a growing boy supposed to become the best Shinobi in the village with no snacks! Surely he would have to ask his mother to pack some extra snacks from now on because this was a crucial part of his Shinobi career. Disappointed Kana's attention turned back to his small black book to something that had caught his eye. It was a crudely drawn picture of a man standing upside down on a tree branch. "This could be interesting." He muttered whilst slipping his fingers to the next page. The white orbs that were Kana's eyes flicked back and forth as he read the captions to this particular training. In a small summary of what he read, the book stated to summon just the right amount of chakra so that a person could stick to the tree. Not summoning enough or too much would cause most undesired effects. Kana would fold the edge of the page as a book mark and decided this would be his next exercise to complete.

3 Months Later
It had been a long journey for Shinken. The young Genin had a hard time wrestling with what it happened. The mission had not gone according to plan. There had been a lot of innocent lives lost. He couldn't help but feel bad for the son of the Irikura chief. Though he knew the man had died fighting what he believed in it didn't make his death any less tragic. Though the holy city was not unduly far from the village hidden in the sand the journey had felt like it had taken years. The young ninja couldn't help but replay the battle over and over again in his head. He wondered if he had done something differently with the outcome have been better. Had there been a choice he had made that had led to the culmination of the events that had occurred. As his thoughts wandered through the sea of memories that had been created on this mission, the young Uchiha's thoughts were interrupted by the sting of hot sand on his face. The caravan had just arrived in the city limits. On their tail had been a massive sandstorm. As it swept through the village scrambled to get inside of buildings and shops. To Shinken was a warm reminder that he was home and that the horrific events of that mission were over. As the young Uchiha made his way down one of the many sidestreets he found people looked at him differently. Through the shuttered windows doors that creaked open as he passed he saw eyes that regarded him not with loathing but with a small sense of respect. While it was a welcome change from the hate had garnered before it made him feel uncomfortable. Though the mission to the holy city had been his first B rank it shouldn't have changed the opinions of people so quickly. While he returns successful on the main objective he had failed in accomplishing his true goal. The real reason he had gone to the holy city was to find Leoman. He was supposed to rescue the general wind Army aid him in his goals. Instead he had fallen in with the miners of the holy city. They had shown him great kindness and hospitality. Something he had repaid by leading them to their deaths. That was something Shinken was never really going to forgive himself for. Though there was also another to blame. The man who would been leading the rebels when they had arrived at the Citadel. The man had thrown some kind of scroll containing an ice based technique that slaughtered both armies. While he claimed to have no control of the rebels that had arrived slaughtered the Irikura Shinken wasn't so sure. The man had shown callous disregard for the lives of his own men. It wasn't a far stretch to assume that he had friends in his own rebel forces to increase their efficiency no regard to the consequences that could occur. Shinken hated that man with a passion, and in fact had written his name down in his personal black book. It was not so much a name as a title the man had not been truly identified, but Shinken had also written down a description so that he would never forget. It was one of his greatest wishes to see that man dead at his feet, and one day he would see that wish fulfilled. As the hot sand bit into Shinken's skin his newly acquired cloak billowed in the wind. After the assault on the Citadel it had taken the Aren markets sometime to reopen. But waiting there had been worth the young Uchiha's time. He found that the craftsmen in that marketplace were second to none. The gear he had acquired their would serve him very well in his endeavors. He had even brought back a little bit of Atium to present to the Kage. It wasn't much and certainly not enough to craft anything significant out of, but he hoped this peace offering smooth over his failure to achieve his primary mission. The young Genin had almost forgotten that he was wearing the fearsome mask, until he saw some frightened children scramble away from him. Underneath the thick material of the mask a smile formed on his lips. While he had bought the mask for reasons other than its intimidating appearance it would certainly help to forge a reputation for him. Though knowing that he was within the city limits, that he was home, he slipped the mask off of his face and secured it to his belt. As he did this he was greeted by a familiar voice. "Shinken I almost didn't recognize you. That's some fancy new duds you got there. I guess you're finally back from your mission. You don't look so good is everything okay?." Sayomi asked her voice filled with concern. Shinken turned to look at her in for only a moment there was a haunted look in his eyes, but he quickly pushed it away. Instead his expression was that of pride and joy. "Yeah Sayomi I'm fine. It was just a long mission that's all. I can honestly say I learned a lot. I didn't think high-level missions would be so intense, but you're right this new gear is impressive. I'm on my way to see the Kage now. I hope he is pleased with the results of my mission." Shinken said trying to hide the fact that the mission had not gone as planned. He must've been somewhat successful in deflecting the inquiry as Sayomi answered him with a simple nod. "I'm sure he will be very pleased that you've come back in one piece. I swear he has a soft spot for you. You know you left without saying goodbye. You had me worried. You have at least told me you're going to mission. Did I hear right were sent on a B rank?" Sayomi asked sounding genuinely interested. "Yeah they sent us off to the holy city. I guess they sent Michio too. I ran into him near the end of my mission he got beat up pretty bad. I didn't see him on the way back. I'm not sure if he's back yet, though I don't know why he wouldn't have returned to the village. Don't tell Shisara okay? All she would do is worry about him. I'm sure he's fine. He probably had something to do outside the village." Shinken said immediately regretting his words. If Shisara found out there might be something wrong with Michio he would never hear the end of it. "Okay I won't tell her, but she's gonna find out eventually you know that right? If she finds out you're hiding this from her, I wouldn't want to be you I hope you know that." Sayomi warned Shinken. The young Uchiha was well aware of the trouble he was going to get himself into, but he just couldn't deal with it right now. He had to get to the Kage's office and at least try explain what had happened on the mission. Quote: +1190 Words 1190 Words total

Michio had gotten home a few hours before Shinken had and went immediately home, eager to visit Shisara. They'd said their hellos, but Shisara had to leave the house, so Michio stood on the balcony outside of his apartment, smoking one of his expensive cigarettes as he overlooked the town. “Man... I can't believe I got out of there alive.” he muttered to himself, then thought 'And I can't believe the Kazekage doesn't know that I unintentionally played traitor to the village...' He took a long drag and was just about to exhale when a kunai was thrust into the wall next to him, a note pinned to it. Michio stared at the kunai and then looked out into the distance, looking for whoever it was that threw it. But after a few minutes of looking, he found nothing. “Damn people have to stop giving me letters this way. Haven't they ever heard of couriers? More expensive, but less dangerous for the recipient...” he grumbled as he removed the kunai and pulled the note off. When he did so, the kunai exploded in a small cloud of smoke to reveal a ball of dirt that crumbled immediately. “Wow... and they couldn't even expend a real kunai...” He walked inside of his main room and sat at the table. Shisara had gone off to work because she wasn't far enough along in her pregnancy that she was incapable of working as a civilian, so Michio had the whole apartment to himself. He unfolded the letter and began to read. “Kaguya Michio, You are summoned to the Kazekage's office and are to arrive within the hour of receiving this message. An important issue has been brought to his attention that requires your presence. If you dally, Lord Kazekage will make his decision himself.” Michio's eyes widened and then he scowled. “Oh god dammit! Just when I was thinking everything was okay!” he half-shouted, gritting his teeth in order to muffle the sound. He knew what had to be done. But it wasn't going to end well for anyone. Shinken... Shisara... the baby.... he was going to have to leave it all behind. Michio stood up and ran to the bedroom, grabbing as much of his stuff as he could and shoving it into a duffle bag. Finally, he took all of the money he had except for a hundred ryo and placed it on the kitchen table along with a note that he wrote out telling Shisara how sorry he was that he had to leave so suddenly and without saying goodbye, but that he would come back for her someday and save her from the Village if she wanted him to by then. He also wrote a note for Shinken, saying roughly the same thing, but instead of telling him that he'd come back, he asked Shinken to take care of Shisara for him. To make sure no harm befell her, be it through outside forces or from inside the village. He left the note for Shisara on the table underneath the pile of money, then rushed off to Shinken's house and dropped the note off with his parents. Once he did so, he ran to the edge of the village and activated his Water Release: Ferocity of the Rapids and Water Style: Hidden By Blood Techniques, improving how well his blood worked as it transformed him into a desert traveler who's face and body were hidden by a series of cloth that only left his eyes exposed, and even those were covered by a pair of goggles. Using this transformation, he was able to pass by the guards with no question and mingled with one of the several caravans that were leaving, ready to make the journey to the home of his clan's shinobi of legend; Uchiha Jin of Rain Country. After returning from the mission to Aren, Michio had gone to the local library and learned as much as he could about blood users throughout the history of shinobi and had found a very short excerpt in a history book about Uchiha Jin. Oddly, most of the information had been omitted about him other than the fact that he was a shinobi who had wielded blood as a weapon. Michio was sure he'd find out more about Jin in Rain Country, and maybe that could even become his new home. While on his way to the Kazekage's office Shinken decided that he would stop in at his house along the way. He was surprised to find Shisara waiting for him there. She seemed very distraught and upon seeing the young Uchiha she ran towards him. Shinken didn't really have time to react as the female ninja grabbed him by his flak jacket and lifted him up. "Where the hell is Michio Shinken?! What do you know?" Shisara yelled at the young Genin. Shinken was quite taken aback by this. How Shisara had already found out Michio hadn't shown up to the village yet was beyond him. He looked heard dead in the eye and whispered a command to her. "Put me down." Shinken said calmly and evenly. Unsurprisingly Shisara did what she was told. Shinken was a master of genjutsu after all. After she had put him down Shinken took a few steps back and release the genjutsu. This time he was ready when she snapped out of it and charged him again. The young Uchiha deftly dodged out of the way speaking as he did so. "I don't know where Michio is I haven't seen him as we were on our mission." The young Genin stated calmly. Internally he was worried. If Shisara was this upset there was definitely something wrong. Then there was the nagging feeling that she knew something he didn't. She be so upset if Michio was just late. His words however fell on deaf ears as Shisara seemed determined to wring some kind of information out of Shinken. "Dammit Shinken you have to know something. He trusted you! He wouldn't just leave me, he wouldn't just leave us!" She shouted. That made Shinken falter for a moment. What did she mean he wouldn't leave? Had Michio left the village? That couldn't be right. He wouldn't leave Shisara and his unborn child to fend for themselves… Unless he had a good reason? Shinken couldn't think of any reason Michio would leave like this. Shinken's thought process was interrupted when his father emerged from the house to see what all the shouting was about. "The hell is all this noise about?! Shinken? Your friend left something here for you. Uh, Here it is." Shinken's father said as he handed his son a note from his pocket. The young Uchiha took the piece of paper unfolded it and read the note. It was from Michio. It said that he was forced to leave the village, and that Shinken would have to take care of Shisara and his unborn child. The young Genin's jaw dropped. His friend was turning against his country, going rogue. Not only that he had settled a 14-year-old with the responsibility of raising a family. What the hell was that Kaguya thinking? Before Shinken could think on the subject any further acumen I lodged itself in the wall of his home. It too had a note attached and the young boy took the note in his hands and read it. It was a summons to the Kazekage's office. Shinken could only hope that whatever Michio had done would not reflect poorly on him. "It's a summons to the Kazekage's office. I have to go. Shisara we need to talk after I get back." Shinken said and without giving anyone a chance to respond immediately headed off towards the Kazekage's office. When he arrived he hesitated for a moment before stepping inside. This could go very badly considering the fact that he had failed his mission and his partner had gone rogue. Still the young Uchiha was loyal to his village and was ready to face whatever punishment awaited. Quote: +613 words 613 non team words 1883 Team words

Awaiting Shinken, sitting in the seat of the Kazekage, was a man that the young genin would have never met before. From looking alone it would be hard to place his age though he was obviously in his forties from the hard lines that branched from his deadpan eyes. His stern expression gave him an unwelcoming appearance as he rested his clean shaven chin on folded hands, "You must be Shinken." His voice was cold, the hint of condescension maintained but not completely hidden. The man shifted and the village headband could be easily viewed hanging from his neck as he reached for a pair of glasses and began sorting through several papers on the desk.
For a moment he reads the contents of one before turning his small, beady eyes back to the boy. "Your... friend, Michio has deserted the Village. He managed to give your former handler, Roku, the slip out in the sandstorm. Because of this we wont be able to pursue him until it passes.
Now... why is it that you weren't out there with him?" There was a presence about the man. A heaviness to every word he spoke that threatened to crush.

Shinken was taken aback to see that it was not the Kazekage that awaited him when he arrived in the office. Instead there sat a middle-aged looking man with a very serious expression on his face. Something about the way the man carried himself, whether it was his expression or body language, put Shinken on edge. Under any other circumstances the young Uchiha would have asked where the Kazekage was, but at this time he felt it was best to keep his mouth shut. When the man addressed Shinken the young ninja gave an affirmative nod. The man still hadn't said what Shinken had been brought in for. From the look on his face it could not have been anything good. The young Uchiha felt the tension build in his chest as the man read over some papers on his desk. When the subject of Michio leaving the village was brought up Shinken swallowed hard. This sounded more like an interrogation full of accusations than a simple questioning. "I haven't seen him since we left the holy city. We took different routes to return from our mission. If you're sending people to get him back please let me go. I know him probably better than anyone else here in the village. I don't know why he left, but betrayal like this cannot be left unpunished. I am loyal to this village despite what others may say about my family." Shinken said calmly. He didn't want to show any uncertainty or hesitation around this man. He felt as though the man sitting in the Kazekage's chair was a predator simply waiting for him to slip up and make a mistake. Quote: +279 Words 892 Non team words 1883 Team words

"Don't be so presumptuous. The man snapped, his eyes staring Shinken down hard, a sour look pulling at his already tight features. After what was a long moment of silence, the man let out a heavy sigh. Placing the papers back down on the table, he removes his glasses to rub at the bridge of his nose before returning them and continuing on with a more composed demeanor. "Take a seat, Shinken. You're not in any trouble, however there are plenty of questions that are currently left unanswered. With your friend, he is your friend, no?" The man pauses momentarily for your answer, scribbling your response down into a notebook that had been hidden previously by the mess of papers. "Michio was being called in to answer these questions but that is out of the question now, so you will be filling the gap that he's left. I assume that's not a problem, we are currently unable to pursue and that should leave you with nothing better to do. Or is there something more pressing than helping your Village with what we have deemed to be of vital circumstances?"

When the man snapped at Shinken he had to prevent himself from visibly recoiling. After being told to take a seat he quickly did so. The man seemed to change his demeanour slightly and Shinken wasn't sure whether it was an attempt to make him feel more comfortable, or an attempt to get him to let down his guard. It bothered him that he felt that he couldn't trust this man. They were supposedly of the same village, and that should've made them allies. When asked if Michio was his friend Shinken had to take a moment to consider his response. If the man was really his friend would he have saddled him with all of this responsibility? If he was his friend shouldn't he have said something to him before he left? At least given him a chance to say goodbye? "I thought he was my friend, but he didn't say anything to me before he left. Just left me a note saying to take care of the people he left behind." Shinken answered honestly. As he listened to the man's requests Shinken's opinion of the man softened slightly. He didn't have any problems with answering a few questions, so long as it was for the village. Besides the man was right there was no way he could follow Michio right now. The sandstorm would've destroyed any tracks. Any traces of his travel would be long gone already. He didn't even know where his former teammate was going so he had absolutely no leads. "I am loyal to this village. I will cooperate and answer any questions you might have. Though there will obviously be information missing. Even during the mission Michio and I did not see much of each other." Shinken stated earnestly. Quote: +295 Words 1,171 Non team words 1,883 Team words

The man nodded to himself, his hand scribbling his notes furiously. "Mhm. And why is that? Why, despite being on the same team, did you both not arrive and leave together?" The man set his pen down and glanced up from his notes to watch Shinken through bespectacled eyes. "I find it strange, it almost seems as though this Michio has always had something to hide. You say you know him the best, would you say that you ever got a suspicious feeling from him? Perhaps ever noticed any strange activity that you might have dismissed in the past but under these new circumstances might be prompted to reevaluate your original opinion of his actions?"

Shinken watched the man scribbling down his notes, and began to ponder exactly what he was writing down. It was very easy to take one's words out of context. While Michio had been behaving suspiciously of late the young Uchiha wanted to believe that there was a proper reason for it. Even when presented with information that seemed to prove his teammate's guilt he wished he could see anything but the truth. When the man began to inquire why they had not arrived and left together Shinken gave him the answer he had been given himself. "I had that same question myself. He told me that it was an infiltration mission and we would draw less attention if we were to work separately. The other reason he gave me was that if one of us got caught the other could still complete the mission. I didn't see him again until after everything was over." Shinken replied truthfully. When the man's questions pressed further asking for incriminating evidence against Michio Shinken was forced to think back through their missions. " I don't know… He was always kind of brash and hardheaded, but I don't think he ever did anything suspicious. There were a couple of times where he ran off ahead got something done. Like that time we were up against those bandits. Kuno told him not to go ahead. We were surrounded but he broke the line and pushed after the leader. I wouldn't say that was suspicious though. He did bring back her head after all. The only thing I found strange was how he contracted this disease or whatever it is that allows him to manipulate blood. It gave me quite the start when it first arose three months ago. We were on our way to the market and suddenly blood started spewing from every pore of his body. He began to retch and vomit the stuff. I thought he was going to die, but after I carried him nearly half way to the marketplace suddenly he was fine. In fact I took a tumble and so did he and the blood seemed to protect him. Like I said it was odd. I know he has a beef with the Inuzuka clan, and he has one hell of a temper. The only suspicious thing that I ever saw was on one mission he wanted us to make a plan to grab this scroll and read what was in it. We were supposed to be delivering the scroll to the Kazekage. I recall it saying something about a demon. That's all I know. Wait there was something else. He came out of the Citadel during our mission. The crumbling destroyed Citadel. I was trying to fight my way inside to get to Leoman, but I never made it." Shinken said reciting all of the things that popped out in his memory. The man stood silent for a long time, the only sound coming from the movement of his pen on parchment. He continued to write long after Shinken had fell silent, making several scratching and circling gestures as he did. "Mhm, now to put this in another perspective: On a mission that was held the village and in extension the entire country's best intentions in mind, Michio, decided it would be best to work separately? It never occurred to you that to be suspicious? I am truly sorry to tell you but that is alarming to me. His reasons make sense only if you don't think about it. You two could have easily ran each other afoul, by not cooperating and informing each other it was more likely to put each other in danger than it was to protect each other." Sighing, he gestured too a low dresser that stood behind Shinken, just a little ways from the entrance. "If you would please, a cups for both of us. We have much to discuss and a parched throat will do neither of us any good."
Clearing his throat, he would continue as he awaited the refreshment, "His high temper, bluntness... an easy guise to excuse his seemingly mundane actions. Running ahead to confront what would have been assumed the to be the most dangerous foe in a den of enemies, leaving you to fend alone? I can't help but wonder what might have transpired between him and that leader before he returned and unfortunately we'll never know now. What he did during your mission to Aren? No one will know. How he managed to mutate his DNA Structure to that of the Ketsueki Clan? Oh, you didn't know that was what he had done to himself and do believe me, I am certain it was an intentional act. Such a transformation leaves more subjects dead or hardly human, let alone capable of mastering and controlling it. Perhaps when you are of a higher rank you will get to read some of our reports on it..." The man shook his head and began writing into his notebook yet again, "So what exactly happened in Aren, by your account."
