S'raid stood up, showing the most interest that he had displayed toward the Hatching thus far. So, Galvanth and Ianath had produced a Crimson egg? ... He wondered if that pointed to a greater frequency in New Weyr dragons, or if it was simply something present within all dragon clutch. Something that was not (ordinarily, with the exception of Aislin's little beast) allowed to flourish. He took an instant interest in observing the dragonet's progress. Hmmn. She was awkward, but she could run. Atypicals were intriguing to him, as they presented a rather interesting conundrum. Did one allow them to live and breed (in the case of Crimsons), or send them between unhatched?

Oddly, that reminded him of the women who took a short flight between. ... And yet the Atypical eggs were seemingly alive when this happened, and at a much later stage of development than any human fetus. He put his hands on the railing, and leaned forward, eyes scanning the Candidates for likely lads and lasses. Would any of them find this Crimson before her strength gave way? ... Perhaps. Hmmn.

A Crimson! And all of the Greens and Blues have found their riders! Galvanth was clearly excited by this. ... It was hard to blame him really, when the single Brown had gone between. Would the Crimson make up for that loss? That had yet to be seen. It could be that this child dragon would one day go on to lay her very own eggs. This was Malvren, and not Benden. The pressure would not necessarily be on her to be a fighter. It would depend upon the dragon and the rider. Either way, S'raid was somewhat mollified, as the clutch had produced not a single Bronze, and certainly not a Gold. This was, at least, something. From his place in the Stands, Galvanth crooned encouragement to the little Crimson.

This was why, even if there were Atypical Whers, no one would bother to hatch them. Whers had to be strong from the moment they were born, these fragile creatures were a luxury only dragons could afford.

Still he leaned forward, scowling as the little crimson became stranded on her back, gripping the nearest surface. He wanted her to find her way back to the girls, where she seemed to feel she belonged, or at least to call out to her partner...

Damned fragile little things...

The Crimson toddled a few more steps forward before she collapsed, her cry of want and hungry quieter now. Her gem-bright gaze played over the boys and she paused, lifting her head up as she suddenly when silent.

It made Eirlyn shiver and wonder if this one, too, would go Between.

But... no... the Crimson forced another step then collapsed again and called out loudly, as only the young can, Nayetuel! Your Rayenth needs you!

She dropped her head to the Sands and her wings drooped. Eirlyn stepped forward then, being sure to step around the egg she'd been standing near and called to the boys, "Whomever just Impressed, get your sharding a** out here less you want to lose Yours so soon! Move!" The Weyrwoman was standing tall and imposing, authority ringing her voice.

Atypicals were notoriously difficult to raise and these first few minutes were crucial. That Crimson needed food and water and warmth, now.

Whew, Shedrawn wiped the sweat that was threatening his eyes with his sleeve she had impressed, that was good. He relaxed a fraction, that had been close.

Zeren stepped back, the crimson creeled and Eirlyn shouted to whoever had just Impressed her, which meant it hadn't been him. He watched as Eirlyn got ready to crack another egg and he tried to stay positive but it was hard to be when there were so many waiting and only two eggs left.

Mercy glanced around their fellow candidates, trying to catch sight of someone moving towards the little crimson, the weyrwomen said the little beast had impressed and Mercy hoped they hurried to her side - it looked like her struggled had worn her out pretty good.

Safira held back a sob as another dragon found her Rider. So many emotions whirled and battled inside her head and heart. She felt like she would go insane from it all. The grief lingering from the dragonet that had gone between, the happiness for the ones who have Impressed, and her own sadness at not having Impressed yet. She blinked as the Weyrwoman entered the sands with the shovel, and helped the little Crimson from her shell. It was then that she knew. No matter how many clutches she had to go through, Safira would stand as long as she was able. To be able to watch such a phenomenon from the vantage point of the Sands was amazing, and she wouldn't give this up for the world. Even if it was not in her destiny to be a Rider, Safira wouldn't give up on her dream. She moved up when Eirlyn told them to form up, eyes glued to the gorgeous little Crimson.

"Oh, my, what a beauty you are..." she murmured, wiping away the tears that had leaked from her eyes. She gasped lightly as the little Crimson looked at the boys after she'd fallen, shaking from the huge expenditure of energy it had taken for her to right herself. "You can do this, little one, you can find Yours...Yours is here somewhere!" she whispered, encouraging the dragonet to not go the same way as her brother. And indeed, in the next few moments, the little dragon's body language said she'd Impressed, and she wondered who the lucky Rider was.

A shift in the candidates let Wykla see the newest hatchling. A crimson! The Weyrwoman's yell confirmed she'd Impressed safely. She was a pretty one too. Now to wait for the next. She replenished her supply of meat and turned back to Kameth.

A sigh of relief broke from Andeon's lips like water flooding through an open dam, thankful that they had not lost her, too. Without a bronze in the clutch and the brown betweening, the small crimson was a sign of hope, and losing her would have been an ill omen. Not that Andeon had ever been a superstitious young man, but with the recent events surrounding the Weyrs, it was one of the last things they needed. Further, it would have just reinforced the Old Weyr's ridiculous views on the atypical dragons. They were fragile things, but they were dragonets nonetheless, and for every egg that was left unhatched in a traditional Weyr, one rider unknowingly lost his lifemate.

Andeon was thankful that he lived in a Weyr that refused to allow that to happen. With the little crimson safely impressed, Andeon returned his attention to the last eggs.

Two left.

Tila blinked in wonder as the green stopped before her. Wha- Then she heard it in her mind.

Tilamine! Why are you standing with the rest of these pansies? Your Halrith knows there is work to be done!

Dragon... She was hers. Oh my god she was hers and hers was mine! It took all her willpower to not jump for joy... Tilamine! Im hungry! No time for joy only food! Tila grinned and moved forward with the dragon, well...trailing behind the dragon. There was so much to do, so much to train for and to grow. She could feel the dragon in her mind, they were both strong willed workaholics... though Tila had a feeling that Halrith would win a battle of minds. Tila loved challenges and boy did she feel this would be one.

On her way their though, the both of them turned and gasped at the comotion... a crimson was born and she was weak. Leave her, if she was meant to survive she needs to use her own legs. The dragon was too hungry which made her more irritable. Tila followed the dragon but wanted to help the crimson. She too sent a friendly wave to Jarest while Halrith ate.

Nayetuel! Your Rayenth needs you!

Startled, entirely unprepared for an answer to the thought he'd only just had, Nayetuel rushed forward, the drive to help, to be useful, echoing through him before he'd even fully realized what he was doing. A good thing, too, as he heard the Weyrwoman call out- "Whomever just Impressed, get your sharding a** out here less you want to lose Yours so soon! Move!"

Oh, he was moving. He was definitely moving. He dropped to his knees in the sand beside her, reaching out a trembling hand to stroke her head. "I'm here, I'll help... Whatever you need. Always, I promise!" If there were tears starting to trace down his cheeks, well, he could hardly be blamed for that. She was beautiful, and perfect, and his, and he knew exactly where he belonged.

Very gently, he helped her back to her feet, crouched awkwardly to help support her (slight) weight as she began to walk unsteadily away from the Sands, toward the tables piled with food. He kept his pace slow, matching hers, words of encouragement and affection pouring from him in a nonsensical stream. A wave of affection poured back from the striking Crimson, and he couldn’t imagine ever being without that feeling.

And you won’t, Mine... I will take good care of you! And I know you will take good care of me. I am very hungry now, though, and very tired. I would like to eat... Can we eat with my sisters? I would like to see my sisters. They have seen more than I have, and I want them to tell me about it!

“Of course. Whatever you want,” he agreed, guiding her gently over to the table of food and settling in near to a Green. “How’s this?” At the wave of affirmation, he turned his focus to the food, cutting a few bite-sized bits and quickly feeding them to the hungry dragonet. His hungry dragonet. His Rayenth.

Hello, Illyrianth! Rayenth chirped warmly, her attention on the food, but also on the Green they'd settled near.

The little crimson had Impressed to hers and for that Ashmere was glad. She could feel her legs trembling as there were only two eggs left. Two chances to be something more than just whom she was. She felt her legs twitch as she took several steps back, she knew that her slender stims could no longer support her weight. Buckling once, twice the Harper leaned on the girl nearst to her.

"Sorry---" Ashmere whispered softly, she was shaking so violently it felt like she would topple over if she continued to stay on the hot sands.

The Weyrwoman watched as the Crimson was guided off the Sands and with a nod of approval, stepped back to her work. The shovel rose... fell and crack it sent a spiderweb of cracks up along the eggs surface. And, before she could poke it to better break it, a determined, black end poked out and proceeded to croon at her.

She blinked and cocked her head to side as the black crooned again, watching her. Eirlyn rolled her shoulders and eyed him, "Well? You stuck or you moving? Go on. Feynath?" The gold rumbled as she tapped the back of the egg with the shovel and the black rolled forward... and stuffed his face in the Sand. "Oh fardles. Really?" She cursed, her voice carrying easily across the Sands.

The Black bleated and seemed to flex, his rear end breaking through the cracked rear portion of the egg as he backed out. Giving an utterly pleased wiggle, he crooned once more and started towards the boys.

Eirlyn, however, was left standing with a slightly worried expression. If trouble ever walked on four legs...

Zeren stifled an instinctive gasp as Eirlyn whacked the next egg, then promptly grinned at the black backside that emerged, the little black seemed to like being silly and the fact that he had made Eiryln curse... made Zeren want to giggle but even now he knew it was imperative that the black find His soon.
