Strife

The shade remained still, staring at nothing in particular. The scythe on his back gleamed in the dim light, dark as night but with its own black light. Smoke oozed off of its form in various direction, making it look like the figure were on fire. Its robes moved slightly, whether from breeze or from actual movement inside. It glowed a soft blue light, from markings on its clothing, and what would seem to be it's eyes. It made absolutely no sound, and no movement; no twitch or habit, nothing but a rigidness seen in a statue. The only indication it was alive was that it was standing.

Strife stared at the graves, mind calm, merely in thought.
'I wonder how they died, if they struggled or gave no resistance; if they were worth a tomb or not'. Death held no special meaning to him. Life held no real meaning to him. 'What is the point of existence if it only leads to demise,' he silently thought. Realistically, he himself shouldn't exist. No other race knew how his kind came into existence, and neither did he. He just existed, which seemed to satisfy everyone. He had no set lifespan, could probably live on indefinitely if he chose a life of no conflict. But that would be boring. Dull even. He may as well off himself. "The only point in life, are the moments when it is threatened," he whispered in a deep, gravelly voice, sounding as if it may actually be painful.

It was then that he noticed someone, in dark clothing who was already in the graveyard. Well armed, by the way the figure was adjusting their guns. The only reason he hadn't noticed the person was by their silence, with their back turned to him. Likewise, it was probably the same silence that allowed him to be seemingly unnoticed as well. He could not tell though, if the person knew he was there or not.
"Maybe i'll go up to it, tap it on the shoulder, and see the reaction? Seems better than staring at graves. Maybe i'll learn a 'life' lesson, like be careful what you wish for, or curiosity killed the cat," he spoke, still whispering, something akin to glee in his voice. With nothing better to do, he moved to the figure, and attempted to tap its shoulder. As well, he felt it necessary to add a comment while he was close to the creature, almost where he believed the ear was. "What brings you so close to the dead?"

The wind picked up, creating a cacophony of rustling leaves and even creaking trees that covered the whispers spoken by the shade. The sudden rise in wind drew a marginal reaction from Nai. The mission information had warned her of possible enemies in the graveyard and she didn't want to experience the trouble of being caught off-guard. Rather than doing something as silly as pause halfway through reloading her second gun, the female gunslinger stopped reloading altogether, clicking the gun's parts back into a usable position despite not having fully reloaded it and pocketing the unused bullets. The important point was that the gun had at least some bullets in it in case the rising wind wasn't something natural. However, with all of her relaxed preparation, she still did not hear the shade, who had the wind to provide him with the perfect aural cover to sneak up behind Nai. For better or for worse, the Shade succeeded in his approach.

The tap had just brushed Nai's shoulder and the whispering had only just started when Nai jumped into action. The woman's body moved, its first priority to stand up while revealing as few openings as possible. To execute that action, Nai spun her body as she stood from the tombstone, the elbow connected to the shoulder that had been tapped up and ready to bash the tapper's face--or at least dissuade the tapper from getting any closer.

Of course, the girl already knew in these first few moments that if the tapper had really wanted to hurt her, he would have already done so. However, the decision to assume the worst had never served her wrong. Once years ago, she had already experienced herself in a situation where she could have easily been killed at the very start of the meeting and wasn't, only to be nearly killed after the exchange of a few words. She never made the same mistake twice after that.

As her body completed its 180 degree turn, Nai's untouched arm, the one that didn't try to elbow the tapper in the face, aimed the handgun she had yet to change the bullets of. The other hand held a shotgun loaded with one non-lethal rubber round and rested at Nai's side, where she could easily pull it up into whichever position she would need it in. Between herself and the tapper lay the tombstone Nai had been sitting on as well as some distance her spin had managed to put down.

Her positioning didn't give her much security, but it gave enough to keep Nai from showering the shadow-like stranger with bullets. She waited silently for whatever the stranger had to say. After all, she remembered that she was a foreigner in a foreign country. It would be bothersome to be kicked out because of some prank. All the while, she looked at him, registering details of his form and piecing it all together to create a mental profile for her use.

Strife

As the figure moved, the shade remained still, not bothering to move. He watched as the apparently female human spun to face him, bringing up her elbow to attempt to harm him in some way. The shade also noticed the flash of a metal, noticing the handgun appearing in her other hand. As the elbow "connected", an eerie laugh issued forth from Strife, increasing in intensity with the passing seconds. The elbow sailed right through him, disrupting his form for a second; scattering his head into an amorphous cloud. For a second, there was nothing. The shades form did not move at all, rather it hung there, motionless; headless. But still the laugh could be heard, echoing from the "corpse". Then the cloud of smoke reformed. And the face gazed intently at the girl. The laughing stopped.

"My my, but aren't you jumpy little rabbit," he stated, a joyful glee in his voice. He reaction was exactly what he was hoping for. Ready for action. Ready for violence. Strife took a moment to study the person. It was strange to see so much activity, yet the face itself was passive and blank. Expressionless. Feeling it necessary to continue, he quickly moved through the tombstone and herself, bypassing all that was within the physical realm. It was a gift he loved to use. 'This human is interesting. Quick to pull the trigger,' he silently thought to himself. Now behind her, though he doubted for long considering her past actions, his voice dropped to its usual whisper. "You never answered my question." Strife let the words hang in the air for a moment, giving it time to sink in, before he proceeded to move back in front of her, his shadows trailing after his form. "If you do, maybe you'll get an answer. To what question, I leave to you."

"Perhaps you are a grave robber, hoping to find riches among the dead. Perhaps you have come to mourn a loved one? Perhaps...you've come to add more to the dead. The question still remains though; why are you here?"
Through his barrage of questions, the shade drew nearer to the visitor, his eyes locked onto hers. His gaze never left that of her face as he slowly closed the gap. With his last question, there was barely a hands space between the two. Close enough that he could feel her breath. In truth, despite his recent stream of questions, he had figured out what her intent was. By the guns alone, it was to kill, or in the very least lead to conflict. By her actions, reactions, she was obviously expecting violence. However, he did not particularly care about the information. All he cared to see was her reactions. And if she would even answer. 'Maybe she is a mute, or deaf, or both?' Under pressure, the essence of any creature is revealed, and it always fascinated Strife to find it in the ones he met. The feral, animal-like quality never ceases to amuse him. He was also hoping the human would give him an interesting question to answer. Being in such close proximity only helped to increase his excitement of the situation. There would be little to no time to react.

Pressure only deadened Nai. Pressure was an indication of something that needed to be dealt with. Pressure required action. Pressure was troublesome and the moment the gunslinger felt it, she felt torn. Her mind, conditioned by danger from birth, wanted to act on the pressure in some calm, calculated way. However, another force just wanted to walk away from it all, completely ignore its existence. The compromise both sides agreed to was staring at the cause of pressure straight in the face and figuring things out from there.

The gunslinger's mind processed everything calmly. She did not fret as the tapper effortlessly took her elbow without any negative consequences and didn't bother trying to use bullets on him when he walked through the tombstone to her. In fact, as he walked through her, Nai had already begun lowering the one arm she had raised. She turned to look at him when he passed through her body. Needless to say, she didn't even bother with the laughing.

To some, her sudden calmness may have appeared as a rather sudden change in attitude. To Nai, though, it was just the most natural result. She had already deemed that if she was in any immediate danger, she would have been attacked already. Her previous skittishness was paranoia that she deemed worth the effort. However, after seeing how little the tapper cared for everything she had just thrown at her, the previous paranoia was no longer worth the effort.

Instead, just answering the question seemed the way to quickly end the conversation. Without flinching or averting her eyes from the stranger as he approached, Nai waited for him to stop moving before whispering the answer he was so adamant to hear, "Mission." Taking advantage of how close he was, the woman did not bother saying it with any more volume than a loud breath.

Some time during all this, her mind clicked one piece of the puzzle, The girl was never raised in a family, but neither were most residents of Nocturne. Still, even in such a fractured society, legends of Shades exist, and Nai, like many others, knew of them. Although, more recently, modern rumors existed alongside the old legends. This was the first time she ever saw one with her own eyes, but the tapper fit what Nai had heard of.

Strife

"So you do speak. Wonderful."
The shade watched the captives face, eager for some sign of emotion. Nothing however showed itself. Boring. The specimen seemed to exhibit nothing in the way of actual expression. The only measure for even a hint at her internal thoughts were her actions, which seemed geared for combat and reflexes. 'Maybe it would be worthwhile to fight her?' But then, he had no idea what she was capable of. He'd only seen her sharp reflexes, and nothing more. Obviously she used guns, which would be no problem for him, but if she was capable of anything else the fight may heavily be one sided. Swirling around her to whisper in her ear, he spoke again.

"What will you kill?" Even though he knew his actions stirred nothing in the girl, he still proceeded to do it. To stop now would be even more boring. Her dropping the gun only added to his disappointment. Obviously, she perceived him no threat to her, which he was still debating whether he should become one. Debating only because her prey may be more interesting to toy with. No matter her skill in combat, she was utterly devoid of emotion, which meant no pain or screams of mercy. Maybe she'd be interesting at another time just for her skill, whatever it was, but for now it would not satisfy Strife.

With his luck, it seemed he stumbled across a shell. Had she had a fire, she would have spoken at regular volume, or at least a threatening whisper. Her bland whisper, coupled with the fact of only using one word, showed to Strife that she did not speak much. It was a tragedy, no retorts or anything interesting. No visible personality or emotion. She was more dead than himself.
"What is your name? If it would persuade you, I am known as Strife." As he spoke, he shifted back to being in front of her. Though giving his name was not something he desired to do, he doubted the girl would give her name without at least his; she may not even do so with it. It wasn't too much of a bother that she knew his name, as he would outlive her. He only desired her name in case he chose to kill her later, or if he had need of her, which he doubted.

Despite letting the shade hover about her as he pleased, Nai was far from not considering him a threat. She still held her weapons instead of resuming the pre-mission check-up she had busied herself with before the stranger's interruption. Her eyes traced the strange being's every movement, tilting and turning her head ever so slightly whenever just moving her eyes couldn't keep him in her vision. However, just like it was a waste of energy to jump at every shadow and clatter while walking down a shady alleyway in Nocturne, Nai did not bother reacting to all of the Shade's antics. He was a threat she knew nothing about, but at the very least, she was confident she could escape from him with minimal injury.

Inner thoughts and unspoken opinions aside, it really was a shame that Strife had to select Nai as his object of amusement. As he had already realized, the gunslinger was not tempered to give him the emotions and reactions that made his life interesting. She listened to the Shade without a twitch, the only movement coming from her marginal attempts to keep her eyes on him. When he finished asking his newest questions, Nai remained quiet, making sure that Strife didn't need to ask any more. Then she replied in the same, dull tone as before, "Nothing. Nai." Again, one word responses, each word a response to a question.

Nai realized that she didn't want to waste any more time just standing around when she could be preparing for the upcoming mission. There was a noticeable pause between her response and her next segment of words, enough time for Strife to start his own answer, in fact. However, Nai would pose her own question, "Are you a threat?" regardless of whether or not the shade was speaking because it was a whole question. The unsociable woman had bothered to think up a full sentence. She wasn't going to bother memorizing it to find a suitable time to say it in.

Strife

"Hiding secrets from your fellow dead?"
He laughed, gesturing to all the dead graves around him, and to her; as well as showing he didn't expect an answer. She was as dead as him, maybe more so. In truth, he knew that his question was probably too specific, so she answered it to the same degree. 'Obviously she wouldn't reveal more than what I ask. So unlike others.' Even with her weaponry, it seemed as if she were not here to kill. What purpose she would have for her guns eluded him; unless they held non-lethal rounds. The shades mind swirled into a frenzy at the prospect. 'An easy kill. She may have some live rounds on her, but not too many if she wasn't supposed to kill her target. But would such a fight be worth it?' Ordinarily, if she had been a regular human, or a regular anything and show emotion, he would have jumped at the chance. But now...he was torn.

"Nai...a short but memorable name. Like mine. Especially for our prey."
Although she was not providing as much entertainment as he was used to, forcing her to speak and answer his questions was interesting enough for now. If anything, her presence did promise one thing for Strife; combat. Even if she wouldn't kill, watching her struggle would be interesting. 'Hell, I may join in and kill her and the prey.' He had only recently found the scythe, and he was waiting for an excuse to use it. Knowing nothing of the region he was in, and having nothing better to do, Strife figured he would stick around and siphon off as much as he could from Nai.

"I'm touched; you spoke a sentence for me."
Strife was actually surprised by the sentence. He hadn't even expected her to speak unless he asked a question. Still, the question was one he was still debating in his own mind. Having her say it, he probably could ignore it and continue. But waiting too long would be boring. 'No point thinking; life is too long for that.' With that, he spoke, letting his mind chose the side for him in a split second.

"For now, no."
That being said, regretfully so, he doubted she would even glance his way. Though it was the option he was more inclined to go, in case it fruition-ed later on, that still left the immediate time as boring. For however long it was until she decided to act on whatever her mission was. Which left another issue. He didn't want to be seen. Even in a graveyard, his form screamed for attention. He could always change into a more human-like form, but it would not help him much. If anyone or anything else showed itself, he wanted a decent do over because of his current company. 'Someone with more reaction.' And there was one good way to hide...but it required consent. To a degree.

"May I stay with you?"
It was out of his usual character, but then he usually did not make a request. His questions were poised as answer, or you never get a moments respite. His usual voice, and atmosphere he surrounded himself, were still present, but not as strongly as usual. If she said no, he would look for a different spot, or just leave. But it would not be his preferred course. 'Nothing like having a shade jump out of a shadow.' It would be worth him having to ask her this. If no one came, then it would just mean he had a closer seat to whatever she did next.

Nai did not stop looking at the shade. His answer to her question did not have the specificity needed for the gunslinger to relax and stop paying attention to Strife. She did not yet know what would trigger him to decide to be a threat to her. She still had reason to act cautious.

The very same caution left her without an immediate answer to Strife's final question. She had already given up on answering the first, having no idea what he was talking about and not wanting to bother with finding out, but the second made sense to Nai. At least, meaning-wise it did. She could not put her finger on why Strife would bother asking, though. Something felt off. She could feel herself missing something. However, all too quickly, Nai found herself too tired to bother with such detail. She did not mind if Strife stayed with her so long as he continue being no threat to her. Having an answer to give, all specifics of the question ceased to be of any conscious value to Nai.

"If you mean no harm," the woman answered monotonously in as few syllables as possible.

Strife

Upon hearing acceptance, the shade grinned, making certain it was visible to Nai. He also could not suppress a laugh on her condition.
'Even I don't know the answer to that.' So long as she proved interesting enough he would not resort to it. When she ceased to be of any interest, however, he doubted he would even try to restrain himself. 'A hundred of her kind could be born and die, and I shall still be here. The longer you have, the less regrets. And I have eternity.' Still, given her machine like qualities, he did not expect to fight her any time soon. 'If anything, i'll use her to find fights.'

"Thank you."
The words were highly unnecessary, given how he viewed Nai to be. Still, if he wanted to leech her for as much as he could, he figured it wouldn't hurt. His plans could only work with her consent. A small flaw, but one easy to manipulate. 'Maybe I can be her voice? I wonder how others would react.' The mere idea of how he could freak out others just by speaking while hidden sent a shiver down his shadowy spine. 'If she proves useful, maybe this'll be a long term agreement.' Done with is mental thoughts, as he would have plenty of time for them later, he smiled again at Nai, and his form dispersed into a cloud. A cloud that converged into Nai's shadow, as if it were being drained into it. His detached voice could be heard, emanating from Nai's shadow.

"Try not too make too many friends while i'm in here."

Nai's immediate reaction as Strife dispersed into a cloud was to back away from him once more, and she did just that. Although, it proved to do nothing in hindering the shade from entering her shadow. Contrary to the reaction she gave when his form shifted, she seemed to rather easily accept the outcome. Certainly, still suspicious of the individual she had just met, Nai reoriented herself so that she could see her shadow, but she did so very calmly and without a pause for shock. the girl realized why the shade had explicitly asked her if he could be with her and stored the information away for future notice.

Nai dedicated exactly a minute to staring at the shadow, making sure that the shade wasn't going to try and do something funny. When the minute elapsed, she took a single step forwards to witness how the shade would affect her moving shadow,

After bringing her feet back together, Nai very deliberately aimed her handgun at her shadow, taking her time gathering the small amount of energy needed to Soften her bullet. She wanted to know just what the Shade could take while hidden inside her shadow. He had already exhibited imperviousness to physical attacks, both when he took her elbow to the face, literally, and when she more recently stepped on her shadow. The next step, then, was to see if the Shade in her shadow would show any visible reaction to an energy attack. Technically, Soften was an energy attack, even if it would normally render the bullet to do less damage than normal. It was, by all means, a safe attack that would allow her to find out what she wanted without causing permanent harm to the shade--although, a good deal of pain was unavoidable. Besides, the time she took to slowly prepare her shot gave the shade more than enough time to get out of the way if he was smart enough to realize that the gunslinger wasn't going to shoot him with an ordinary bullet. Regardless, if Nai wasn't told to not shoot by the shade or given any visual cue of Strife exiting her shadow, she would shoot and find out just how safe he was when in her shadow. A rather blunt and rude way of finding out, but that was how Nai did things.

Passives
XXChaotic Energy: A passive skill that comes naturally after learning at least five chaos skills, Chaotic Energy is present when the chaos within the user reaches the point where it effects the way their energy is seen. It causes the energy to relay absolutely no concrete information (ex: class, rank, sins). Energy sensors will still be able to sense the affected person's energy. However, the energy will be such a mixed up mess that they will be unable to extract any information out of it. At most, they will know that something is unusual with the user. However, what this abnormality is will be unknown as the messed-up patterns of energy hint at nothing.

By blocking the tip of a bullet with a very small cushion of energy, gunslingers can change a normal bullet into the equivalent a rubber bullet without having to re-reload the gun. This skill does not affect the speed of the bullet in any way.

A inter-dimensional portal opened not too far from the two. A figure stepped out, a white robe billowed around him in the wind. Its hood hiding the figures face, in the figures right hand was an elegant golden staff clearly of elven make. Taking a closer look, one would notice that the figure had a gauntlet on the right hand.

Kain came out of the portal feeling his feet settle onto the soft ground. He scanned the area with his hazel gaze. He thought about all those buried that have fallen. Mainly the human King Silver Summer, good man but he was an idiot. But he was not so disrespectful, he would leave an offering to his spirit. Movement out of the corner of his eye attracted his attention. He saw that the woman Nai was already here and was "conversing" with a strange figure. As soon as he saw the strange disperse into a cloud of shadow he knew what the stranger was, a Shade. He hated the antics of Shades, even as Nai readied her guns Kain lifted his staff coursing his energy into the tip of it. A bright light shone forth from it and illuminated the area. This should flush the shade from the shadows. "I am Kain Leingod of the Royal Guard, what are you up to Shade?" Kain said clear and authoritivly as he walked over towards the two.

(( Lawl. Poor Ghost, and he was just trying to get along too. What a time for Kain to come in when there's gunfire. ))

The shadows elongated from the presence of Kain's light. While his appearance was sudden, another presence had been there and had been laying in wait the entire time. In fact in plain sight as the elf dispelled her shrouding of light refracting around her body to reveal herself fully for once as she was merely scouting for the dark elf whom was her sister in name. She wore the black robes that were commonly associated with the ninja complete with a mask that shrouded the lower half of her face.

Two swords hung criss-crossed on her lower back, a quiver and her bow slung across her back. Lightly armored with metal plates on her fore arms and shins, she was steeled for what was to come. Coming into full focus, she was in the middle of a chanting as her energy focused around in the area. Within the graveyard the few standing trees glowed with a golden hue for a split moment. The elvish string slowed as the elf looked at each person in the area, only two of which that had been visible but the shade she knew the whereabouts of as well.

Three trees then creaked and cracked as life was breathed into each as they morphed to assume a more humanoid shape to stand tall and true in a three corner triangular formation. Adiel herself hadn't done nothing else as the treants were created with her nature magic, as they towered over all else to be ready to club something or someone should things get too dicey.

"Before something happens, how about we all stop before it begins?" She said in a low voice, noting how she was worried on how the shade would truly react to the blinding light and how the reaper known as Kain took accustom to the potential reaction. Her treants would be the buffer between such a conflict as well as he very presence as the area around her exposed eyes glowed slightly, hinting the potential for Solonor's power ready to become active.

"Kain, kill that light for its very annoying for me and quite possibly the elemental here. We're here for the golems, not a lesser and insignificant species of a shade. Losidren' shall arrive soon. Let us not deviate from our assigned task." she said as she touched the hilt of Twinkle in case hostility would come from the shade or even Nai for that matter. Her suspicions were high yet her duty was bound to completion of the assigned task and should she need to strike a few sensible blows in her comrades in order to get that going, Adiel would and not care.

Strife

The shade noticed Nai's attention to his spot, and smiled even though no one could see it.
'So something finally interests you,' Strife thought to himself. Apparently, despite being devoid of emotion, she had a curiosity, when it involved her at least, in a maybe threatening situation. It was useful to know, at least when he was bored of her machine like personality. However, when she decided to shift her gun to him, that was when he got interested. 'Will she shoot?' He was hoping she would. 'Pain is better than nothing at all.' It was why he always looked for a way to taunt with others, as well as fights; it made him feel something, so rather than feel nothing, he went after the easiest emotion to harvest.

"Go ahead, shoot. It's better than feeling nothing."
While waiting, fairly certain she would go through with it, Strife noticed something a little ways off. A weird...something opened appeared not too far from them. Then, to make matters more interesting, a figure stepped out. The man, apparently noticing Strife's lovely presence, decided to come over, and raise a stick up into the air, where it twinkled like a star. And then, much to Strife's delight, a bright line shone out of it. Immediately Nai's shadow was re-positioned, elongating where she was not facing the mans light. It burned a little, as he was hit by the light, but the shade relished the pain. When the man started speaking, the shade laughed, his deep, almost painful laugh, full of its usual joy. In a sing song voice, he spoke "Twinkle twinkle little star..." He couldn't get further, as he broke out laughing, mocking the mans attempt at forcing him out of the shadows.

"Fancy title. I wonder how it'll serve you when you stop breathing."
The glee in the shade's taunting was overpowering his more ominous tone. "A royal guard is merely a glorified babysitter." Though the man seemed to know of his presence, his voice still seemed to be emanating as if from Nai, though just by looking at her face it was readily apparent she was not speaking. "What I do is only known by the dead. Care to join them and find out for yourself?" The fool, as he would now be known to the shade, had failed utterly in his desired affect. His light, meant to apparently bring him out of the shadow, failed. It only made the shadow bigger; and the most fatal flaw was that it allowed the shadow to connect with the others of the graves littered across the area. And even his shadow was distantly connected to Nai's; given how all the shadows intersected because of his intense light, albeit at a further distance.

'Should I enter his? I wonder how fast it would be to kill him?'
The shade was about to test his theory when, lo and behold, another figure entered the fray. Speaking to Nai, he added, "I thought I told you not to make so many friends?" The shade watched intently, wondering if she would spark the inevitable battle. It was interesting. She seemed to take over nature, as some trees were swayed to her side. Trees with shadows. 'Shadows everywhere. This should be fun.' He could barely contain his delight when he heard her threaten the fool, even if not in plain words. However, when it seemed she was talking them down from conflict, Strife grew annoyed. 'Kill joy.' When she went further to insult him, though, he was much more vocal.

"Did you have to ruin the moment? Me and the royal fool over their were hitting it off. The robot was even going to propose, with a bullet no less."

OOC: Too many people. Self destruct initiated.
