June 8th through July 16th
((RP logs from Kiro's journal_____Pueblo's babysitter Anakiro and Tsukai!?))
(Majorly backdated)

~~ 2005/06/12 ~~

Another early morning for Kiro, the neko-jin noted quietly. He sat on his bed with a book open across his knees, idly noting pages numbers as he found ones of interest. He wasn't sure what he was going to use the interesting page numbers for, but he was sure he was going to find something. He had plans to write some kind of dissertation about the Aerandir, something to present to Ataro when he got back to show he'd gotten something out of his trip.

There was also another reason the youth was up so early, and it was partly a reluctance to sleep.

Fae had visited him last night with a strange request. One of her parents had seemingly taken ill, and made it necessary to take a sudden trip back to the mainland. She hadn't wanted to take Pueblo with her. While she hadn't been specific why, Kiro could easily guess. The little girl was just getting used to being a little girl, and going to the mainland would be traumatic.

Absently, he stroked Tsukai's head, the small Aerandir being curled up in his usual place against Kiro's neck. He then continued flipping through the book waiting for the two in his care to wake up properly. Pueblo, at the very least, had had a late night. Kiro wondered if this was the first time she'd been without her mother. Or was it just because this place was new to her? She'd get more settled in a few days, he was sure.

Either way, Tsukai revelled in the company - making it clear very quickly that he planned to force her into being his new playmate. They seemed to have hit it off well, which was always a good thing.

Speaking of Tsukai, he gave a sleepy peep in the way of a morning greeting. Kiro smiled at that, stroking him again gently. "Morning you..." he murmured good-naturedly. "Do you know what time it is, Lazybones?" Although, it was a given that Tsukai didn't yet have any comprehension of "bedtime" yet, and to be honest Kiro doubted if he ever would.

"Peep!" declared Tsukai boldly, his mind instantly demanding to know where his new playmate was at! Kiro had told her she could have the spare bed in the 'other room' which still remained from when the room had been two. She seemed to be sleeping soundly when Kiro had checked in on her before going to sleep himself. This, of course was a good sign.

"Shh," he said to Tsukai, giving the animal a gently reprimanding pat. He could guess what that last peep had meant...! "She's asleep, leave her alone, okay?"

Unexpected arrival last night in the form of Pueblo. Fae's had to go take care of something, so she asked me to baby-sit. The research fanboy in me was squealing for approximately five minutes. I mean this is a child Aerandir. But then, after that sinks in, she's a child. She was kind of upset when her mother left. We drew some stuff and read some stories, so I think last night went okay. We're going to have to think of some really interesting things to do now though - I think Tsukai's getting a little sick of constant stories now too. He likes bein read too, but I guess there needs to be a little variety, right? Maybe if I get out a book with pictures? Or we could go exploring? Or something...

I don't know... I hope nothing goes wrong. I'm not even sure how long Pueblo'll be with us for. I also hope everything goes okay for Fae; she sounded pretty worried when she left...

Well, one day down and an undetermined number to go. Nothing seemed to go wrong yesterday, we did some drawing and some reading and generally messed about. I'm really going to have to think of something to do though if Tsu and I are going to have Pueblo with us for any significant period of time.

Sighing in thought, Kiro closed the journal. He might add more to it later, but right now he could think of much else to actually say.

"Keeo?"

Blinking at the mention of his name, the neko-jin turned to the Aerandir, smiling as he did so. "Hey Bobo, how's it going?"

She paused, seeming to fidget for a little while, not really sure what to say. "I... uhh..." she murmured, pulling uncertainly at one of her bushy pigtails.

Her uncertainty made Kiro frown a little in concern. "What's wrong?"

"I nunno where Su went to..."

Oh. It was just that. Nothing to worry about then - Tsu already had a reputation for liking hide and seek. Didn't mean Kiro didn't worry when he did it, but it was a likely explaination for his disappearence. He grinned at Pueblo. "Tsu's just playing a game Bobo. He plays it with me all the time. Did your mommy never play hide-go-seek with you before?" By this point, Kiro had gotten down from the seat and was kneeling on the floor, watching her in a reassuring manner.

He wasn't used to interacting with people younger than him... and he found it surprisingly easy...

Pueblo's expression looked a little lost as she nodded, one uncertain hand still on the thick section on her hair. "Uh-huh..."

Kiro continued smiling. She must be worried he was angry. Which he certainly wasn't. Tsu would show up eventually, after all running away was no fun at all. Tsu would get bored of that in about five minutes. Whereas watching them try to find him for fifteen would be the height of fun. "Well, you know what we're supposed to do now?" He couldn't hide a good-natured chuckle at her confused expression. "We go and find him, don't we? I bet he's in this room somewhere, right?" Another nod. "Where should we look first then?"

"Un'er the bed!" She declared boldly, pointing through towards 'her bed' as she powered through, suddenly the very picture of enthusiasm.

Kiro grinned broadly as he followed her. He had already seen Tsu's hiding place behind The Book, which had been idly left on the desk when he'd answered Pueblo's summons. Now, Tsu was poking his head out from behind it with a seemingly disappointed "peep!"

"Found him yet, Bobo?"

Seeming almost dejected, she crawled out from under the bed. "Nu-uh..."

Leadingly, Kiro murmured, "I was sure I heard something around the desk... don't know what it could've been..."

Heh, yup. That had been the right thing to say. No sooner had he finished the sentance than Pueblo was rushing away towards the desk. She was, however, too short to see over it. She jumped up once or twice before turning to Kiro, looking for help.

"Want a hand there?" he asked, leaning down and picking her up around the middle, hoisting her up so she was sitting on the desk.

She giggled happily at that. "Suuuu...?" she then said, reaching towards the book to move it, that and the journal being the only things on the desk.

"Peep!" called Tsukai upon being discovered, bouncing effortlessly onto her head and fluttering his wings there for a second.

Her expression was one of surprise, but definate triumph. "Yay!! We found Su!!"

Kiro grinned broadly as he then put her and the smaller Aerandir on the ground. "So, Bobo, if he does that again either come find me, or find him, okay?" He petted Tsukai, who was sitting on her head with a slightly quieter grin. "He's quite the sneaky one, y'know?"

"Peep!" Oh yes, Kiro's tone had indicated mischiveious things, and that amused Tsu no end.

Journal
It's so strange seeing the two of them playing together. I'm not even sure how much they understand each other. I don't think Tsukai understands much of what I say, but only the tone I say it in. I wonder if he and Pueblo have some kind of link that helps them understand each other better? But then I suppose adult neko-jin have trouble understanding the kits at first... maybe it's the same kind of thing?

In any event, we played a little hide and seek just now, curtesy of Tsukai. I'm wondering whether it'll be worth me copying up these journal entries so Fae can put them in her data-log when she gets back?

Kiro paused in thought, lifting his eyes from the page and wondering where his two charges had gone. He decided to copy the entries up anyway; if she decided she didn't need them it was no big deal in the end...

Well, there's been quite a few things happen in the last week or so - mostly revolving around how much trouble Tsu can lead Pueblo into without getting caught. On the whole though it's not been so bad having two around instead of one. They amuse each other, which is often a wonderful bonus.

I'm starting to wonder, as I watch the two of them interact, about many things to do with the Aerandir. I could ask other people I suppose. But wouldn't that sort of defeat the purpose of being here? I really want to watch and learn, sometimes by interaction, others through observation. How their social circles might work, or perhaps how they interact with their youngers and elders. It's a lot to muse about, I know that. But you can't help watching them in wonder...

Tsukai, of course unable to read any of this, hopped up onto the desk and sat on the open journal, nudging at Kiro who had fallen asleep at his desk. The neko-jin had been up, waiting for Pueblo to fall asleep, and had obviously been fighting a losing battle with the Aerandir.

After failing to get a response from the sleeping neko-jin, Tsukai hopped off the desk to Pueblo, peeping softly as he hopped onto her bed and nuzzled her with his head instead. As his touch, she seemed to toss uncomfortably. Tsukai ruffled his feathers a little, tilted his head, and tried again - this time choosing to poke her a little with his beak. The same reaction.

Normally, Tsu would've assumed he was being ignored. But something seemed... off... and the mousey creature couldn't identify what was amiss. This called for some Kiro-shaped-people action!! So, promptly, Tsu hopped off the bed and half leaped, half flew towards the neko-jin who was still slumped asleep at the desk. He paused for a moment, wondering how best to wake the neko-jin.

Tried and tested methods worked best.

He hopped up, scrabbling in Kiro's hair for a second, earning himself a confused and sleepy mumble, before opening his beak and clamping down on Kiro's ear. This startled the unconscious boy into wakefulness with a curse, raising a hand to swat at Tsu sharply. "Tsu?! What'd'you think you're doing?!" He soon stopped the swatting and the cursing, however, upon hearing the Aerandir's concerned peep. Something was up. "What is it?" he murmured absently, watching the furry being hop from the desk and flit quickly towards Pueblo.

Getting to his feet, Kiro followed his charge into the other room to find that Pueblo was having an uncomfortable night. She was tossing and turning, her eyes screwed up in... something... Kiro couldn't honestly say he knew what it was. He sat quietly on the edge of the bed, and put a hand on her shoulder gently. She seemed to stop at the contact, whether soothed or unnerved by it was anyone's guess.

He paused, not sure what to do next, unaware that she was already awake. "You okay Bobo?"

A sniffley set of sobs were all Kiro could hear, as he raised his other hand to pet Tsukai gently. The smallest of them had taken his usual position at Kiro's neck and was watching on worriedly.

"Hey, hey shh..." Kiro leaned across to peer at Pueblo. "What's wrong kiddo?"

"I... I wan' mommy...!" Suddenly, she turned and latched onto Kiro's waist, surprising the neko-jin. "...wan' mommy..."

"Oh... Bobo..." Kiro sighed gently, suddenly working it out. Fae had been gone for more than a week now. It didn't take a genius to work out that Pueblo missed her. Maybe she even thought she'd been abandoned... Such things were easy to hide in the daylight, when you had things to do and friends around you. But night-time was always a breeding-ground for such worries. "Your mother's coming back... she said she would didn't she?" He hugged her lightly, not really sure what else to do.

More distressed sniffling. It seemed to be slowing down a little now though. Was she going back to sleep? Gently Kiro stroked the little girl's head, certain that she was.

Sighing again, Kiro tilted his head to rub his cheek against the nestled Aerandir at his neck. "You okay there buddy?" A gentle peep and a returned nuzzled was Tsukai's reply. Kiro could also feel Tsukai's thin tendril of a tail at the nape of his neck - a sign that the small animal was after closeness. He could obviously feel the discomfort in the air, the same way Kiro could. "She'll be okay - she's just a little homesick I guess. It'll work itself out by morning." Another quiet peep, this one of agreement.

Pinned as he was by Pueblo's grip on his waist - Kiro didn't move from where he was all night. Neither did Tsukai, determined to stay by his guardian's side, as well as his newfound friend's. One thing was certain, however. Kiro didn't fall asleep this time...

It was nearing evening as Kiro sat again at the desk, flipping the journal open in the awareness he'd been neglecting it again. Even if Pueblo was with them, it wasn't an excuse to stop recording what was going on. In fact, it was even more important than ever - Fae would want to know what her daughter had been up to in her absence, surely.

Well, we've had an eventful few days. We met Dragonfly and Iniko (who Tsu and I didn't know, but Pueblo had obviously met them before) and headed down to the beach. Not sure whether it's because he's small or not, but Tsu definately doesn't like water too much. Luckily the other two were a little bigger and able to help him out some.

Pueblo also had (what I gather was) her first donut that day too. I hope Fae doesn't mind me letting her have sweets, but she seemed to enjoy it. And it can't hurt I suppose. I'm glad Pueblo doesn't seem to be as picky as Tsu, it seems like she'll eat anything.

Absently, Kiro paused, the pen hovering gently above the paper. He wasn't really sure what else to write... He listened, his ears twitching slightly, trying to hear what the Aerandir had been doing. He could hear them in the other end of the 'room' - through the doorway in the wall. He'd given Pueblo some paper and a pen. It was lined paper, but he didn't think it would bother the little Aerandir. And he'd been able to give her a variety of coloured ballpoints. She should be able to figure something out...?

Rising, Kiro put down the pen - intending to come back to the journal entry later. He was just going to go have a quick peek at what they were doing. He hung through the doorway quietly, and was surprised at the sight in front of him. Tsu seemed to be posing for the young artist, who was sitting on the floor crosslegged and supporting the pad of paper on one knee. She had the pens she had been given spread out on the floor beside her, as well as a few Kiro didn't recognise. They were probably ones she'd brought with her from home.

Quietly, the neko-jin moved into the doorway more comfortably, aware he couldn't be seen by the little girl with her back to him and concentrating as hard as she was. He leaned back a little and watched her, her elbows and shoulders moving as she attempted to draw Tsu (who seemed to enjoy posing perhaps a little too much). She also kept making sounds of exasperation. She wasn't a perfect artist yet, and she knew it, and evidently seemed to keep making strokes she disliked. Kiro supposed that must be a disadvantage to working in ballpoints.

The neko-jin smiled quietly, before moving back through to finish that journal entry.

Journal
Seems like they're keeping themselves occupied. Pueblo seems to be doing what comes naturally - namely drawing - and Tsukai seems perfectly willing to let her - namely by posing for her. I swear, that's the longest time I've seen him in one place since he was in his jar...

Wonder how much longer Fae'll be gone... I can tell Pueblo misses her...

He couldn't actually remember what he'd gone out into the centre for. It was one of those times when you step outside... and your mind draws a blank. He had been attracted, however, to the small pile of letters that must have been a few days old by now. On a whim, the neko-jin had sifted through them, idly wondering if there was anything from Kandera - one of his classmates. Nothing from her, but there was a pale green envelope addressed to himself and Tsukai.

He had taken it back to his room before opening it, summoning Pueblo and Tsukai. Technically, the letter had nothing to do with Pueblo though.

Or so he thought...

F a t e
A pale mint green envelope is taken all the way across Gaia, across the seas, and onto the isolated island of Cetalu. Slighty beaten and crumpled up in the corners from such a long journey, across the front in a golden font is written:

Anakiro and Tsukai
Cetalu
Comunity Center

In the upper left corner was the return address of Fae. Inside the pale green envelope rests a small note. Just a simple letter really. It wrote:

Quote:
Dear Anakiro-

I deeply apologize for such short notice on behalf of watching over Pueblo. I hope it wasn't too much of an inconvience. She's just learning how to stand on two feet, and when I had to leave so quickly, I couldn't bring her into a whole new world with millons of new people and atmospheres. I can't thank you enough for taking her in without question.

Anyway, I am back home in Durem with my mother and father. My mother had taken on a severe disease and the doctors couldn't figure it out. I was beckond to come as urgent as I could for things I feared the most. Every day is random for my mother and I think I will stay at least another week to make sure she is alright.

Every moment though, I think of Pueblo. I really hope she is doing okay for you. Just give her some coloring books and crayons, or maybe show her something new, and I think she will be alright. Besides, she has Tuskai to play with, right? Tell Pueblo that her mother loves and misses her and will be home soon.

-Fae

Kiro smiled before glancing at Pueblo. "Bobo, it's a letter from your mommy. Should I read it out for you?"

The way the little girl's eyes lit up would have warmed the hearts of just about anyone. Grinning, Kiro reread the letter, aloud at this point. "So," he said when he was done. "Your mommy's gonna be back soon. Mommy's mommy is sick, and she had to go make her better again. Okay?"

"Mommy back so'n..." A tentative pause before she added, "...ne?"

Kiro couldn't help but surpress a smile. Oh Geez... she was picking things up from him... He chuckled gently in mild dispair, deciding not to correct her. Fae could scold him when she got back. He then nodded. "She said about a week. That's seven days..."

"Se'en...?"

Ahh... could she count yet? Grinning, Kiro grabbed a pad of paper. He wrote the numbers 1 to 7 in a red pen, and then handed them to Pueblo. "Okay, every morning when you wake up, cross one out okay? Then, when they're all gone, mommy will be almost home."

Gleefully, Pueblo reached out, her childish hands grabbing for the paper. She then sat down where she was, and started doodling happily around the numbers - drawing childish bees, flowers and clouds around the numbers, her face pulled to a grin at the thought of her mommy coming home when all the numbers were gone.

"No cheating now, Bobo. I'll know if you do."

"No chea'ing. Pu-blo not chea'!"

Kiro reached over to pat her head reassuringly. "Good girl."

The last few days have moved by quickly. Tsu and Pueblo keep doing what they do best - playing.

Tsu did have a funny incident (less than funny to him though, I'm sure) concerning loss of several feathers. It involved Pueblo not realising he was under her as she moved to sit down. Neither of them are hurt - they both got a fright, and Tsu lost a feather or three. They were among his larger feathers, still small though. I've decided to keep a hold of them - tied some string around them and pinned the string to the corner of the corkboard. Maybe they'll be useful when he's older?

At any rate, Pueblo's been eagerly counting down to when her mother comes home. I'm glad Fae's coming home (or she intended to when she wrote the letter). For one thing Pueblo misses her, and for another, when Fae gets home she'll feel secure enough that her mother's okay.

There's also another option, but I won't write it for fear of influencing fate.

Well, looks like I've managed to neglect the journal again... It takes a lot out of you, running around after two kids at once (and yes, Tsu's active enough to class as being babysat). Not much of a reason, but it's the only one I've got. Either that or I'm just getting forgetful!

Pueblo's still missing her mother - she's crossed off all the numbers on her piece of paper, and all I can say to her now is "soon". Which doesn't really help her much. But she's been very patient about it - and I'm glad. I don't know how I would deal with it if she got herself upset.

The summer festival was on a few days ago - we all went over the Ar'Idil (the other island) and met up with some of the newer guardians. It's a relief not to be the newest anymore - not that I minded it, just with there being newer guardians than me it makes me feel I have some... experience? I guess? Not sure if that's the right word... but it'll do for now.

Haven't heard from anyone back home in a while... Wonder how everyone's doing... I should probably write a few letters at some point soon...

Oh well, hopefully the next entry won't be as tardy as this one. I should probably go find out what the terrible two are up to. Everything's far to quiet for my liking...

(Backdated)

So last Sunday evening I decided to take Pueblo to the springs inside the Centre. We bumped into Ieyasu and Osu while we were there, and Ieyasu was naked. I was almost glad when Syren walked in until I watched her set down a crate of beer and jump into the water with Ieyasu. The children had plenty of time to play, however, and I'm glad that Osu and Pueblo could get to know each other better. They were showing each other their artifacts that they had received as children. Delta had skittered inside, looking frantic; I was surprised to still see her as a gryphon..

Then for the rest of the week, Abby and I have been making continual trips out into the forest a little ways in search for any muddy banks or creaks. We've been trying to find clay but haven't been granted any luck yet. I'll need to ask Alyosha where we could find earthy-clay around Cetalu, or perhaps even that new island I've just heard opening...

I haven't gotton a response to my note I posted in the Centre yet but I thought I should keep Pueblo moving along in the ways of art. I know how much she loves to paint (you should see all the colorful hand prints on the walls in the basement studio...) so I've started to teach her how to make homemade paint if nothing else is at hand. Plus, I have a feeling she'll be using more organic componds to create her own paint once she's older. It took me half a week to receive the natural minerals I needed: Malachite, Cinnabar, and Azurite. I also obtained part of a deer bone to burn to get a nice black color and a marble grinding stick and basin for her to learn how to use.

She's gained a sudden skill quickly, grinding the minerals, that is, with the stick and all. Once Pueblo sees how something's done, it's as if it were downloaded into her brain and picks up on it quickly. We ground the Cinnabar together and poured in the linseed oil base to make paint already, and then tried to paint on something with it. Abby found a few sandstone rocks sitting on the ground (we've been doing this outside- nature, I thought, would be a good influence for her), picked them up, and painted her hand onto one with her paintbrush, then a symbolistic picture of her and I holding hands on another. She was thrilled with her work.

I think I'll have her grind another stone soon...in the meantime, it's off to the Centre!

August 26th, 2005__________

Crossing across the yard with several thick, white, rug-like items were rolled under Fae's arms as she approched the storeage room. The door had already been open and a little Aerandir girl turned her head as the woman enterted.

"I got the canvus for the walls... how's the paint coming?" She asked Pueblo as she strided over to one of the empty walls and begun to hang the tarp-like-canvuses up.

Sitting in the middle of the room with a basin in her lap, Pueblo was buisily mixing a bowl full of what looked like goopy pond slime. "Shh!" She held a finger to her lips and continued to stir with a wooden spoon. "It wownt work if there no peace," she babbled as if it made sense to her. She grabbed a pinch of crushed rock from another petry dish beside her and sprinkled it across the top before she started to fold it into the substance.

Fae stood there for a minute as she watched what Pueblo did. "What're you doing?" She decided to ask as she watched the substance from dark poo green start to turn into a much brighter sea blue color.

Pueblo's ears twitched in delight as her once tranquil face broke out into a much more thrilled one. "Making paint! See? It's..." she looked around the room for a reference but couldn't see anything that looked like the color she made. "Sky 'poo," she envied and stood up, trying to be careful as not to spill any of the fresh paint onto her paint pallet or brush that sat beside her.

Fae's eyebrows rose and oculdn't help but crack a small giggle. "I think you mean, blue, instead of poo? Poo is... the stuff that's left in the potty when you're done using it," she gently corrected and helped Pueblo lift the heavy basin up to set it on a table.

Pueblo flushed. "Oya... that's what I ment." She followed behind Fae as she placed her paint in a spot she couldn't reach. Not liking this fact, she tugged on her mother's shorts to ask her a question. "Can I paint now?"

Kneeling down to Pueblo's height, she smiled. "Of course you can. There is never a time when you can't. But I'm busy moving the studio out here so you can work in the sunlight instead of the spooky dark basement," she explained and pointed to the walls. Pondering the girl's question even harder, a light bulb turned on in her head. "Tell you what, I'll finish putting up the canvus on that wall there, and then you can try using your new paint on it." She smiled at her decision and left the pleased Aerandir child to finish covering the wall.

As soon as Fae had finished her job and sat the basin of paint down on the ground in front of the covered wall, Pueblo plucked her paint brush from the ground and dipped it into the oxidyzing liquid. Her toes wiggled against the canvus under her feet as well that would catch a few paint splatters as she applied the paint brush to the canvus.

August 26th
Today I started to move the studio from the basement to the storage unit outside. It's much more spacious and supplies natural light unlike the darker depths down-under. Pueblo's begining to figure out how to make paint on her own. She seems to like doing it the longer way too, and I don't know how she knows, but usually she'll be able to tell me what color the stone will turn out to be before it's even crushed and mixed with oil. Weird, huh? She started to paint all sorts of things on the canvused walls- nothing really extrodinary, but still exceeds a kindergartener's scribbles.

I sat down with her later with a 2B pencil and pad to teach her how to paint a still life. I think that's a good thing to teach her how to do. Anyway, I only sat up a bunch of stiorfoam shapes on a white clothed table, and angled a few lamps on them to create shadows. I had her practice telling shadows apart from shapes- I know it's slightly more advanced stuff, but I wanted to see how she'd react to it. Not surprisingly, she figured it out right quick, but of course her drawings wernt anything feathered. It's just something useful for her to learn in order to paint well.

Besides other news, we ran into Kiro a few days ago. He was taking measurements of Pueblo for some kind of research. That boy, I swear, is always working (or at least whenever I see him).

My how the days quickly come and go...

A month has passed now, and oh, what an exciting month it has been! I've felt like an art teacher for these past forty-four days- a very sucessful art teacher. Pueblo has taken the art of a pencil and her painting brush like it were only breathing. We spent most of our days inside the studio or out on the beach, or even in the forest, just taking in and reflecting onto either paper or canvus.

I've started a sloppy list of things I've been teaching Pueblo how to do, but for the most part, everything has ever been instinct for me. So with the help of several useful books that Pueblo's learned to whip out and crack open for herself every once in awhile, we've gone through still lifes and porportions and shading. Pueblo's painted various pictures such as trees, our house, the ocean and sand, and some wild animals we took photos of.

We've hanged everything up in the studio- we've strung our art, or rather more of Pueblo's, on a close line in two corners and across but not exactly tightly pulled. Anywhere we go now, Pueblo is taking mental pictures of things or scenes and asking me all sorts of questions about the right colors and things like that. But that's just the narrated version.

Woo...I have to get back to writing in here or else Abbby's growth could falter! I'll write more later when I have a clearer mind. But for now, I must cook dinner.

October 10th, 2005__________

It was a cool autumn day. The turning leaves shook in their branches as the wind passed by. The air smelled like old oak leaves and ripening pumpkins, and then you would know it was the month of October.

Sitting on the front porch was Pueblo with a multi-color striped orange and brown scarf around her neck. Though her fur kept her warm enough, Pueblo became attached to the cozy material. She store out into the horizon and examined the multi-colored trees. Her emerald green eyes blinked a few times and cutely cocked her head to the side. Just then did a red and yellow leaf air-glided past her. Sitting up straight and watching it land on the ground, she quickly got up to retrive it.

Meanwhile, Fae was busy taking down the hammock and putting up a log swinging chair. Taking down the hammock for the winter was easy, but as for trying to lift a log-swing, well, she just stared at it on her porch. "Perhaps I should ask someone for help," she murmured to herself and looked over at Pueblo.

"Leafs!" she cried and held up her hand which grapsed many colorful leaves. Bounding back to her guardian, her little tail bobbing behind her, she sat back down on the steps and laid each leaf out.

Fae smiled and pushed her glasses up to take a look. "Well it looks like you got a few maples in there," she pointed out to Pueblo.

The Aerandir child's ears stood out and leaned down close to look at the leaves known as "Maple". Her nose almost touched the next leaf she looked at and smiled from the feeling of her warm breath. "Wat's dis one cwalled? she asked and held leaf after leaft up for Fae to determine.

"Well I think that yellow and green one is a Sycamore. And that brown one is an oak." Fae sat down next to Pueblo and looked around. Cetalu was so differen't from Durem. There wasn't going to be any leave piles or snow. And somewhere from deep inside it saddened Fae that it'd be awhile until Pueblo could make snow angels or try to catch the snow flakes on her tounge. But memories faded when she realized that Pueblo was leaned against her and an automatic arm wrapped around her child. "You know what seasn it is, Abby? Fae asked and looked down to the Aerandir.

Pueblo looked up at Fae as she twirled a maple stem between her fingers. It was fun to watch the colors spin like a tie-dye wheel. She thought for a moment before she gave her a questionable answer. "Uhmm... is its fowl?" Her vanilla ear twitched and begun to thread the steam through the leafy part.

Fae smiled widely and hugged Pueblo tighter. "It's fall. Back in Durem the leaves would change so much and get soo colorful that they'd drop to the ground in gigantic piles for kids to jump in. She stroked a hand through Pueblo's light mule hair. "Then, it would get colder and colder until you had to ware hats and gloves. Even scarves like the one you found..."

Pueblo nuzzled Fae's chest and found her hand around the scarf now. "I wemember you telling me about the cold and needing extra clothes or else you could die from ahMOnie-ah," she stated and played with the end of the scarf. She also remember Durem. Her guardian would always talk about it, but that was usually at night. It sounded like a nice place.

Fae laughed loudly once and patted Pueblo on the head. "Er, well, I guess you're right. Cetalu just stays too warm and so it doesn't snow here either-"

"Why?" Pueblo quickly interjected and looked greatly puzzled. She always wanted to understand and to know as much as she could.

Fae paused and thought how to explain it. "Why? Um... oh! There's an imaginary line called the equator which divides the earth in half." She spoke slowly, but so far Pueblo seemed to be keeping up, so she continued: "And that line is very, very hot-"

"As hot as the sun?!" The Aerandir girl gasped.

"Almost!" She grinned and nuzzled the girl who let out a fit of giggles. "And so the closer you are to that line, the warmer it is. Cetalu just happens to be pretty close to it, and because snow is cold and the equator is hot, snow would only melt. That's why it doesn't snow here." Even Fae was a little confused to what she said, but for the most part, she was right. It wasn't exactly that easy to explain geography to an equivalant of a 5 year old.

"Ohh.." Pueblo blankly trailed of on and became silent again. She had leaned back over her leaves and got a sudden vibe inside. "Can we paint da leafs?" she asked.

Fae looked down at the small collection of leaves Pueblo had. "I have a better idea. Why don't we set them in something we can make together so that they'll last forever? That way, you can always see the pretty reds and yellows."

Pueblo gasped again a little and them shook her head up and down. Scurrying to her feet, she scooped up all the leaves and walked towards the art studio with Fae. Side-tracking along the way, she picked up a few more leaves and smiled widely.

"First...we're going to need some glycerian."

Nov.29th.05

As the saying goes "Practice makes perfect", almost every morning and every evening Pueblo is attached to her paints. I'm almost concerned about her new quietness she's grown into. I mean, she hasn't shut herself away, but she's been more observiant and mild voiced...

Pueblo's been really hard on her poor brushes and paints. The brush has already stained a watery brown, and her palet doesn't want to stay clean. Even my own tubes of paint couldn't be hidden from her- it's like she has this strange paint radar. Even though they were only in a drawer... I think she's coming along nicely in her artwork. Just last night she tried at the night sky. Instead of dumping and getting navy blue paint everywhere, then adding a few white out dropplets (although, that's not a bad idea..) she's captured the various tones of blues reflecting off the fading sun rays and the different intesisties of light coming freom each star. Not all of them are just white or yellow, but some gold and some falling which leaves a ghostly tail behind them.

I think the weather has gotton much cooler since. Pueblo's tawny fur is always more sprongy when we walk outside. Another thing that I've started doing with her is taking her outside near the forest area to drink tea and reconize plants/animals. Nothing as severe as what Nahanda is doing of course, but enough to identify the most common Cetalu plants (had to get a BIG book for that one). It's always been a favorite thing of mine to do- go sit on a stump in a forest and just draw whatever comes to mind. Very relaxing. I think it's a good influence.

Hm...I think I'll have Abby help me put up the Christmas ornaments tonight. Maybe we'll go into the forest tomorrow and find a small pine. I should place an order to the mainland sometime for gifts too...

December 19th, 2005 __________ Pueblo's nightmare::
(Backdated)

Ashes clouded their path with every given step. The air was heavy and sad, perfumed with burnt charcoal and wood. What was left of the fires crackled and flickered, gleaming with an evil wickidness. The island was a sancutary, but now, it only resembled that of a wasteland. It wasn't completely hopeless though... Fae's foot stomped over a splinter flame, crushing it's pride of destruction into the ground. It wasn't a far trip from the Centre, but everything looked different now. She passed with silence with Pueblo in her arms. Fae would have covered her eyes, but this was univoidable, and she wouldn't be able to hide what was done to their home anyway.

Thudthud. Thud. ....

Fae stood before her house, staring. Pueblo was still and breathless. It was inevitable that her wooden porch would be scorched nearly to ash. The supports looked ready to collapse at any second. The women pursed her lips in thought, wondering if there was a way around this. There wasn't any back door her mind sadly reminded her. She supposed a window..

Reluctantly setting Pueblo down, she turned to walk to the nearest side window. "The front of the house looks unstirdy, so I'm going to try and get inside another way. So stay right here and I'll be right back. Standing in front of the window, she peered around inside. It was too dark to tell, but every now and then a dark cloud would fade and a small amount of light flashed across the still house. Placing both hands against the frame of the window, she pushed. It was stuck, but only for a moment before it flew up. The house quivered and rattled. Then, from the front of the house, and enormous thunder errupted and a giant cloud of ash engulfed the front side.

"AAAAIIIIIEEE!"

Fae's eyes widened. "Pueblo!!"

Pueblo's fur stood up; ears pointed and bristly tail in all. A giant hand of darkness reached out for her as the porch collapsed. Shrilling into the thick air, her wings propeled her feet into momentum. Running to the next place she could think of, the storage room that was turned into an art studio, she slammed the door behind her. Her heart pumped hard and she held her eyes tightly closed, gripping the air tightly with fists. The room around her shook a little as dirt and debree sprinkled from the roof to the ground. Silence. Then, the shouting of a terrified guardian. Her eyes quickly opened but one at a time, just in case.

What she saw next froze her in place. One side of the walls had caved in, being made of a sturdy material, it withstood complete destruction. The roof had many holes where firey rock had shot through. But what shocked Pueblo's heart most was the burning or already burnt pages of her artwork. Paintings, tools...everything. Everything! This was her shrine, and the volcano had to take that too! She walked out into the middle where a stream of foggy grey light leaked. She looked around in tears, not understanding. She quickly clenched her eyes back together and shook. She wanted to wish this all away. She wished and hoped with all her heart that none of this had really happened. The trees were green and the sky was blue. She was painting in her studio, a place of sollitude. She could feel the colors. They were dancing with her and calling her name. But when she reopened her eyes, the same dark, dusty soot of her paintings were still there. It took her a minute to realize that Fae was actually calling her name.

"Pueblo! There you are. I was so worried, I-" she stopped. She watched Pueblo's back and head hang, then looked around the room. Tears had made tiny clean rivers down Fae's cheeks of fear that the collapse had... She slowly moved behind the Aerandir girl and knelt there. "Abby... no one can ever take your special gift in art. Remeber that, cherish it in your heart, and show it to the world. Always use it, or else it would be like taking flight from a bird." She gently placed a hand on the girl's shoulder.

Pueblo sniffled and shook. Then without warning she whirled around and burried herself into her guardian. She whimpered, wanting her pictures back. They were a part of her...her heart went into each artwork. She sighed after awhile and stared off into space, murmuring, "Lets start cleaning."

December 24th, 2005 __________ A different Christmas Eve::

BUNG BANG BUNG!

"Up on the roooof top, click click click! Down through the chimmmneeeey came oooollld" BANG! "Saiiint" PING! "Nick!" Fae wiped her brow and set the hammer down. She looked over the other roof tops as the wind caught her hair. These buildings were definately not volcano proof. But being a little bit of a science wizz herself, she knew that that same volcano wasn't due to explode any time soon again. "How's it going down there, Abby?" Fae called downward.

Despite the ear wrenching banging, fine. She thumb signed her guardian with a frown. It was one of those, you nod your head yes but are saying no. Meanwhile, she continued sweeping ash into a can.

Fae smiled and thought. "It's a great view up here, but really not all that private," she frowned and watched around the re-constructing village. Maybe she could make a tree house somewhere else... again with the hammer, she nailed the last panel over the hole. "Too bad you can't fly yet or else I wouldn't need to be constantly up and and down this ladder," Fae grumbled and grabbed for more nails. She looked around the inside of her house: she had already cleaned it once, but even still a lot of things were still stained with sootiness. She sighed. Didn't seem like Christmas was going to be the same this year. She had to cancell her trip to Durem because of all the damage. Climbing back up to start on the shingles, the hammer cut across the morning air once again.

December 25th, 2005 __________ Pueblo's first Christmas!::

The previous night Fae had stayed up all night. The house was salvaged enough so Christmas could carry on! Pueblo nestled up to her guardian as Fae read her Christmas stories; ones about the magic of Saint Nick climbing down chimneys and filling the room with goodies. It had excited the good little Aerandir girl. Quickly she'd flee to her own bed and go right to sleep.

***

"Fay, Fay, Fay!!" Pueblo bounced on bed. "There's prezents everywhere!! C'mon lazee slug, git outta bed! Santa was here!!" she tugged on her guardian's arm.

Fae stretched and grinned groggily. Her hair was messed up, but it was too late to do anything about that. She only had enough time to grab her glasses before she was pulled upstairs.

"Looks like Santa's been here," she smiled in mock surprisment. She pointed to the plate sitting on the coffee table- nothing but largely obvious crumbs. The house was glittering with red and gold foil. Holly berry hung around the room, and the bushy christmas tree was budlging with a few flashy boxes. They looked carefully wrapped in their fancy bows and wrapping. Fae brushed by the stockings hanging near the stove, also packed with surprises, and lit a few cranberry and cinnomin candles.

Pueblo's little fists were stuck in her mouth, overexcited as the colors flashed in her eyes. She didn't even realize they had something inside them! Just the presentation was satistfying enough. She looked around the room, sniffed the air, and danced towards the tree. Pueblo plopped a seat onto the ground and reached out for the first present adressed to her. "TO Pueblo, FROM Nehanda," she read outloud. The tips of her ears twitched with curiousness. Her tail wagged with excitment as she carefully undid the wrapping. A pretty violet box sat before her now. Lifting the lid and reaching into it, she pulled out an adorable stuffed bunny:

To: Pueblo, From: Nehanda

Pueblo's mouth dropped and hugged it instantly. Her pelt shivered. "It's sooo pretty! And sooo softy!" she nuzzled it. "Thanks, 'Handa," she whispered to the christmas tree. "Look!" she held it to Fae to witness it's bunny beauty.

A bright flash captured this moment. Lowering her digital, Fae smiled. "It's really cute, Abby. Now you can add it to your collection of plushies," she nodded.

"It's my favwrit," she cooed and inspected it.

"Hey! Becareful with that tail missy. You don't want to knock anything over," she chuckled. "But keep looking under the tree, there's a couple more for you. I think that one's from Santa," she winked.

Pueblo gasped and slowly lifted the red and green box. It read: To: Pueblo, From: Santa. A slow smile spread across her face. Whoever this Santa guy was, he was really really nice! Especially for someone she's never met before.

Dec30.05

Due to a volcanic erruption two Mondays ago, Christmas wasn't the same this year. Luckily there wasn't a lava flow, but flamming rocks made up for that. It damaged a lot of person's homes and belongings, including Pueblo's precious art studio. My heart hurt that day to see how sad she was. Luckily, she was able to bounce back, much more eager to paint than ever. I think that's an important trait in her.

I had origionally planned Christmas in Durem with my mum and father. I wanted them to see how remarkable Pueblo is! But, sadly, all vessel tickets were cancelled to the mainland. Now we're rebuilding the roof, porch, and studio. The porch and roof are mainly finished (roof being more important, we got right on that) but now we're clleaning everything inside the house. We've managed to save everything but it's the matter of soot stains we have to work out of the walls and floors.

Still, Christmas carried on. I had planned my major shopping trip until that volcano acted up (I hope the island is stable for awhile now... ) so I couldn't buy other people many things. But Pueblo still enjoyed her gifts, actually, she lit up right away. She got an incredibly soft bunny plush from Nehanda, then some new art supplies from Santa.

Nehanda's gardens were also destroyed during the catastrophie, so Pueblo and I are getting ready to go offer some help.
