Karissa ran to the lake. "Hey," she said as she sat down near Mary and Tetris. "Sorry I'm late. So what's up?"

John appears besides the lake coming out of a misty darkness. As he appears the sunny day becomes darker and shadows race out from him going into the shadows of the surrounding trees.

"I'm not sure. I don't think I'll go alone. If someone asks me, then I probably won't turn him down, but I don't think I'll be going for just now. But I will go to the Main Dance later in August," Karissa said to Tetra.

Emily walked down to the lake, casting her eyes out at the water with a sigh. She went to the log where Lucas had once taped a note for her and plopped down on it. She put her head in her hand and tried to think of anything but Lucas or Josh. But her mind came back to Lucas. he seemed to be having a good time without her at the dance.
