((Thank you! I was getting tired of waiting, but I hate double-posting...))

Christoph saw Lacey walk up to the bar and begin drumming her fingers on the counter in a relaxed manner. He sauntered over to take her order of a Long Island Iced Tea. Out came a large glass cup. In went ice cubes, a long splash of Tru Organic vodka, 1800 Tequila, some Tortuga Gold, some of the Haunted Music Box's own special sweet-and-sour mix found nowhere else in the world, a touch of Coca Cola, Kensington London Dry gin, and some Grand Marnier triple sec. He stirred it vigorously, then tipped the whole concoction into a shaker as he pulled out another glass, more slim and elegant in shape. One good shake and a wink for Lacey, and he poured the Long Island Iced Tea into the slim glass slowly, so she could watch the light fizz from the Coke.

"I hope you're having fun on the dance floor. You really should lighten up. Elijah would probably enjoy your company a lot." He lowered his voice confidentially. "Just between you and me, he may act like he's only into big eyes, long legs, and blond hair, but he really likes a girl with personality and wit. I'm sure you've got plenty of both to spare. You've got this whole mysterious, gypsy thing going on with that long black hair." He smiled encouragingly and silently hoped the Haunted Music Box wouldn't decide to intervene on their behalf too drastically. There had been one time it decided to lock one couple in a bathroom together in an attempt to salvage a crumbling relationship. It had worked, but Christoph had gotten an earful about meddling where he wasn't welcome from both of them.

Lacey & Melanie
╚═══════════════╝

Lacey watched him make the drink while letting her drumming come to a stop. It would probably never get old for her. What he started talking to her about was starting to get old though. She gave him a gently smile as he poured the mixture slowly into the glass. "Why are you trying so hard to push me toward him?"

Melanie was just watching the two interact up to this point. She had a vague idea what was going on, but it was a bit odd. After all, Lacey seemed quite comfortable talking to the bartender. This was the first time she came to the bar, yet she was talking to him without being flustered. The guy even winked at her. The question that was asked was a good one. Why was he trying to hook the two up? Not to mention the comments. Some of them seemed more like compliments. Her eyes shifted to look at Lacey. She rested her elbow on the bar while facing her. "Has he complimented you before?"

Lacey turned to look at her friend. "Wha..why!?" she asked as she thought about their previous conversations a bit. She placed her pointer finger gently against her cheek while pondering. "Hmm...I guess so...maybe."

"Oh really!?" Melanie thought for a moment as her eyes shifted to look at Christoph. A knowing smile appeared on her face. "Sooo Christoph...was it?" She started as she turned to face him. Her hands rested gently on the edge of the counter. "Do you have a girlfriend?" There was a particular reason she was asking that question. Right now she didn't really know all the details, but it wouldn't hurt to ask questions that might help her figure something out.

"Melanie!" was all Lacey managed to get out after she recovered from her shock. Why does she have to ask such questions? It was so embarrassing.

Melanie gave Lacey a playful glare. "You know I don't like to be called that."

Christoph just smiled mysteriously at the two women. "If I told you, that would ruin the whole thing!"

He turned and nonchalantly poured a glass of water for himself. "Of course, I wouldn't be trying so hard if I honestly didn't think you and Elijah had good chemistry. Just try opening up a little bit."

He lowered his voice again, as if taking the two girls into his confidence. "Can't you feel the magic in this place? It winds around you, intermingled with the sound of the music that hangs in the air. It speaks in a foreign tongue that you could understand, if only you took the time to listen."

The Haunted Music Box responded nicely to his attempts at poetry. It increased the tension in the air, and made the music coming from the stage reverberate just slightly, making it seem as if it surrounded every patron in a blanket of gorgeous sound. Christoph felt his skin tingle as it worked its magic.

"Anything can happen here. You just have to be open to it." He smiled charmingly, and sipped at his water.

Lacey & Melanie

"Oh really!?" Melanie responded with an intriguing smile. "Are you afraid to get attached?" She asked as she set her right elbow on the counter; letting her chin rest on the back of her fingers, while her pointer finger leaned against her cheek. A little at a time, that is all she needed. It didn't matter that he didn't really answer the first question. After all, any response to a question divulges some kind of information.

Lacey sighed at her friend. It started already and she learned that it was pointless to attempt to stop her. Delicate fingers wrapped around the glass before she finally took a sip. Of course, it was exquisite. Her big brown eyes stared at the liquid in the glass. "I'd appreciate it if you would stop meddling in something that you think you understand." She spoke in a monotone voice and never made eye contact with him. To be honest, he was starting to annoy her. How did he see any chemistry anyway? He might know Wells but he doesn't know her at all. It felt like he was trying too hard to make something out of nothing. When people do that it is not only annoying, but there is usually some kind of alternate reason: one that might be even subconscious in nature.

"Yes, you keep making strange comments about this place; as though it is alive. It's probably more real than you are." That last statement was rather harsh coming out of her mouth. It's true that his meddling annoys her; but she was reacting harsher than normal. Why was that exactly?

"Thanks," Lacey said with her normal smile. Her eyes shifted to look at him as she lifted the glass up to show that she was thanking him for the drink. With that said, she turned around and walked toward an empty table. She slipped into the seat and glanced around the place. This time she was looking at the building and all the things in it; not the people. A soft smile appeared on her lips. She was so distracted earlier, that she didn't feel it until he pointed it out. It inspired her to write. Maybe that is why that blond haired guy brings a pad and pen.

"But it is alive..." Christoph murmured, a little hurt by her words. He was only trying to help her find a different side of herself. The Haunted Music Box was the place for that. People came to enjoy the music and the atmosphere, but what they found was a unique experience filled with the place's magic. Christoph looked dolefully at Melanie.

"Do you think I'm being a little too pushy?" He traced the top of his water glass, feeling the vibrations of sound waves coming from all around him through it.

After realizing that the bartender wasn't going to answer her question, Melanie sighed and let her hand drop away from her face. Of course, after all that it would have been surprising if he took the time to even think of a response. Regardless, it was no fun. That was the first time Lacey truly took someones attention away from her. Speaking of her friend, why was she being so mean? Sure, she has a pet peeve; but she never responded so harshly before. It was obvious that the normally mysteriously friendly guy was hurt. She felt kind of bad for him when he gave her that look. It made her wonder how often he actually showed that side of him to others.

Melanie stood up straight after he asked the question. "You already found one of her pet peeves," she paused for a moment before continuing, "not a good start." She turned her back to the bar and took a step forward. It was definitely time to find out what was going on earlier in the night, but she felt bad for the guy. For some annoying reason, she felt like she should encourage him. In the end, she opted not to look back toward the bar and continued walking instead. After all, it was more important to make sure her friend was alright: not some guy she just met.

Her mind was too curious about certain things to even allow herself to ponder the magic that he was talking about. One thing at a time. Melanie sat in the chair opposite of Lacey. "Tell me everything that happened," she said in a way that didn't make it sound like a given order.

Lacey & Melanie
╚═══════════════╝

Lacey took a small sip of her drink and sighed. After a moment of silence, she started rehashing the events of the evening. Of course she left out some things that she deemed not important. Although not word for word, she pretty much told Mel her whole conversation with Christoph. She also mentioned the minimal contact with Wells. When she was finished, she took another sip of her delicious drink.

Melanie thought about what was said for a moment. "Honestly," she started, "I don't know why Christoph has been so adamant about you and Wells. I mean...I know you reacted the same way with him at first. That's just how you are. I understand why you were annoyed, but why did it bother you that much? Do you actually like him?"

"I don't...wait what!?" Lacey started answering the first question but was too shocked to really think about it after her second one. She took a slow sip of her drink in order to buy time. Was Melanie implying that she reacted harsher than normal because she has some kind of feelings for him? That's ridiculous. Right? "I seriously doubt that. I don't really know him." Without skipping a beat, she continued talking. "Oh yea. That guy told me not to talk to Wells." She motioned to the guy with the light blue hair. At least she wouldn't have to talk about Christoph anymore.

"WHAT!?" Melanie glanced over to the table. "He threatened you!? Why!?" Suddenly, she remembered how he wanted to hear her play. The playboy would probably be more interested in having a girl band member. "Hey! Wells is the guitarist right? So what does that other guy play?" When Lacey responded with a simple shrug, Melanie got up and walked back to the bar; ignoring Lacey's questions. She tapped her hand on the counter one time. "Hey! Christoph!" She waited for him to come to her as she leaned forward against the bar. "Whose the drummer and bassist in Wells band?"

Christoph looked up from a discussion over a check one of the waiters had brought to him at the sound of Melanie's question.

"Hmm? Let's see..." He scanned the room, then spotted who he was looking for. "Over there, the gloomy guy talking to the blond kid? That's the drummer. Quiet, but he's very energetic behind the kit. Don't remember his name." Another glance around the room showed him Elijah and his bassist engaged in conversation at their table. He pointed.

"The blue-haired guy is their current bassist. He's new, so I don't know much about him. In fact, he's never been to the Haunted Music Box until a few weeks ago, when Elijah started bringing him." He shrugged, then asked, "Why? Is something the matter?"

Melanie turned to look at the first guy that was pointed out to be the drummer. A smile spread across her face. "Oh him!" She exclaimed suddenly, but decided to wait to ask her next question. After all, she was curious about the blond that the drummer was talking to. Her eyes shifted to look in the direction the bartender was pointing. It wasn't surprising to hear that the guy was the bassist, like she suspected. It made more sense that way. Melanie pondered as he told her what he knew about the guy. This guy liked to tell people more than what is asked; unless it is about himself of course. She twirled back around and smiled. "Just wondering..." was her response. After all, it wasn't her place to tell him her friends issues. "So who's the blond?" She asked while motioning toward the one talking to the drummer with a nod of her head.

Something in Melanie's tone told Christoph that she wasn't being truthful about 'just wondering' who the bassist was. After a few hundred centuries of living, you tended to pick up on stuff like that. But he let it pass and instead moved to her next question.

"The blond is named Daniel. He doesn't look like it, but he's a college student. The kid's a phenomenal composer. You actually just missed him playing with the girls on stage. They were great together, and they were playing one of his songs. He's really shy, but seems to like coming here. He's been a regular for a while now." He swirled some green liquid in a glass, then tipped it into a drink he was making before handing it off to a waiter.

"By the way..." He looked sheepishly at her. "I'm nosy as a newborn kitten, especially when it comes to people who come in here. Not many people are able to find it, after all. The Haunted Music Box only lets those with an appreciation for music get in. So, of course, I take a special interest in those it admits. Sometimes I forget that people today aren't like that. It used to be that people would pour out their entire life's story to me, a stranger. When they were done, we weren't strangers anymore. Now, everybody's afraid of everybody else, not telling anything, not asking for anything in return." He wiped at an eye dramatically and pretended to sob. "It breaks my heart!"

Melanie glanced over at Daniel. "Oooh is that right?" she asked as he gave off plenty of information about the blond. She didn't expect him to respond to the question. After all, it was more of a response to show that she was listening and possibly intrigued about something. It wasn't until he finished his bit about Daniel; that she really said something in response. "I'll have to ask her about it...since they have something in common," she said more to herself than anyone else. Even though she doesn't like to talk about her friends in front of other people, she still had a tendency to reveal something about them by accident. Not that it has ever been a real problem. Well, not usually anyway.

Her hazel eyes shifted to look at Christoph when he started talking again. A smile crept onto her face when he revealed that look to her. What a character he was. "Well, I don't mind telling strangers my story if we happen to start talking about it. I try not to talk about others though," she paused to give him another smile, "But just because they tell you their life story; doesn't mean that you aren't strangers anymore. After all, I somehow doubt you tell your life story to everyone here. Maybe you haven't told it to anyone. It's not an equal trade. So they might not be strangers to you, but some of them might feel, deep down, that you are still a stranger to them." Melanie pushed herself away from the bar. "Anyway, I should probably get back to Lacey." She turned her back toward him for a moment. "Oh, maybe people are afraid to open up to you now because you won't open up to them completely. Assuming that you used to before..." she let her sentence trail off. Her head was the only thing that turned back to look at him when she spoke again. Melanie gave him another smile before walking over to the table Lacey sat at. She totally ignored the part of the conversation that was about the Haunted Music Box. It was something that she was forcing herself not to look into at the moment. After all, it was quite possible that she would keep talking to him and ignore her friend. Her curiosity overwhelms her at times. It seems that she had that in common with Christoph. A chuckle escaped her lips as she walked. Well, he called it nosiness though. Maybe curiosity and nosiness were kind of similar; now that she thought about it.

Elijah finished his warm beer. The drink wasn't nearly as tasty as it would have been, but he couldn't let it go to waste. It was his fault that it got to that point. He glanced at Gavin before looking at the bassist again. "Alright, let's go." With that said, he sauntered over to the bar. He didn't bother to see if his band mate was following him. The guy knew what they were doing next. When he got to the bar, he found a space between two stools that he could squeeze into. "Yo Christoph!" was all he said in order to get the guys attention. He waited to make sure the bartender wasn't busy before asking the question. "When's the next open slot?" Of course he was referring to a night in which the place wasn't booked with a performer already.

Before he could get a chance to think about Melanie's comment about opening up, Elijah was there and asking a question.

"Hey, there!" Christoph leaned on the bar and thought for a moment about Elijah's question. He almost opened his mouth and said Friday when he remembered the spot on the bar.

"Uh... Let's see. I'm not sure. Not for another two weeks, at least. I plan to do some... uh... redecorating. The bar will be closed for the next few weeks." He pulled at his lip, thinking hard. There was no way to hurry up the Haunted Music Box during its transformation. It took things at its own pace. He hated not being able to give a specific date to Elijah, but couldn't do anything about it. Again, he got the feeling that the Haunted Music Box owned him rather than the other way around.

"Tell you what, as soon as I'm open again, your band gets first pick of days to play. Is that good?"

"Aw man, that's a bummer. But I can't wait to see what the place looks like when it reopens." Elijah replied after Christoph finally answered. He brushed a few red strands away from his face and smiled. "That sounds great!" He replied in a cheerful tone. He dug his hand into his jacket and pulled out a wallet that had a graphic design in different shades of green. He pulled out his card and flung it gently onto the counter. It landed and slid a little closer to Christoph. "Hey, can I pay for my tab? We need to get going," he glanced over to where Gavin was before speaking again. "Can I go ahead and pay for Gavin's as well?" Elijah asked with a smile. "I'll be over there," he motioned over toward where Gavin was at the bar.

Elijah walked over to Gavin and his newfound friend. It didn't take long since they were just a few bar stools over. "What's up!?" he exclaimed with that trademark smile on his face. "You look like you're havin' fun," he continued, knowing that Gavin wouldn't actually answer his question. He didn't consider that the blond might though. "Anyway," he began again, "I'd hate to interrupt this tantalizing conversation you have going on; but we have to get going." He spoke in his normal joking way, followed by a smile of course.

Gavin Looked up at Elijah when he came over. Of course, he didn't respond to the pointless question. It was more meant as an attention getter or greeting in this situation. Having fun? That didn't actually cross his mind until just now. Tonight was a pleasant change for once, so he decided that he did have fun for the most part.

"Alright," was all that Gavin responded with as he stood up from the bar. Why did Elijah say it like that? That was when the red head spoke again.

"Oh yea," Elijah started as if he suddenly remembered something, "We get to pick which days we want to play when this place opens up again."

"It's going to be closed?" Gavin asked.

"Yea, for a few weeks...for decorating purposes," Elijah responded with a laugh. For some reason, his mind wandered into an imaginative scene that was somewhat related to the place getting redecorated. His bright green eyes watched Gavin smile. He knew that the guy was imaging the same thing. Well, maybe it wasn't the same thing, but he was picturing something similar at least. Elijah didn't always do this kind of think. It was one of Gavin's traits that rubbed off on him. His best friend could be so weird sometimes, but that was part of what made him interesting. He flashed a knowing smile toward his drummer.

Gavin stopped smiling after Elijah flashed him a smile back. He turned his head to look at Daniel. "I guess it's time for me to get going..." he stated the obvious as he shoved his hands back into his pockets. He could of just said goodbye, but they weren't technically leaving yet. It seemed that the bassist was in the bathroom because he didn't see him pass by to go to the door yet. "Thank you for the drink," he added almost as an afterthought.

♥ ♠ Call me Byron, that's all ♦ ♣

It was probably the heat of the night that led Byron into the "Haunted Music box", or was it his feeling of loneliness form having just moved in a new city he knew very little about? Either way he really felt like a drink or two or maybe more after his first week around, it was the weekend and he was a little wiped out from this week's work. He wasn't really a people's person, and trying to adjust to a new work environment was such a challenge.
Now, compared to the regulars of the Music box, Byron looked pretty plain with his long black hair, pale face and blue grey eyes, but he could feel everyone staring at him, even if they weren't, it was just that feeling one gets when visiting a place for the first time, but he didn't seem to care much.
Walking towards the bar, he passed by the two guys talking over a tea, and some other girls, them he took a place a dark haired girl had left to be seated at a table with a blonde haired friend that looked too energetic.
He looked around him a bit, picked up his credit card, put his cigarette box and his lighter on the bar and called up for his order:
"Good evening" He said to get the bartender's attention "Jack on the rocks and make it a double". He then gave him his credit card and added "and keep the tab open."
Not being a people's person for Byron didn't mean he was shy at all, in fact there was that over confidence in his tone of voice that made him sound a bit arrogant and overly dramatic.
As he waited for the bartender to get him his first drink for the night, he lit up a cigarette, without asking for permission to smoke and took a couple of breaths, staring into the blank, as the noise of the patrons faded away and all that was left was the sound of the music the band played.
"The atmosphere seems good around here, maybe this will be my regular stop." He thought, taking another breath, and looking at the people around through the thin curtain of smoke.
