Nothing like a ship that's falling apart, with poor shielding, little armor, no guns, and decaying secondhand gear to make you appreciate what you got. Just be thankful we don't have the G-9 Rigger...
I still don't see why we can't use a light-medium freighter though, instead of these massive ships. On a side note though, here's what i still want to see answered:
1) who's actually GMing this? 2) What ship are we going to use? Because the Akula is way too big and heavy as it is to be even remotely a scouting ship. 3) Where are we starting off at? 4) Who's going to do what? 5) What's not allowed? What is? 6) Who's even joining in?

I'd be willing to GM... I was thinking of maybe a big brother to the MC18 and Deepwater-class Freighters from the Mon Calamari. A medium or heavy freighter or luxury yaht converted to scout and reconnaissance duty during the GCW.
Why Mon Calamari? Being able to land in a patch of water on an unexplored world is a nice feature. We do get regenerative shields (albeit less powerful then on a combat ship.)
The irony is that the Chiss (despite what most of you think) like curvy looking ships...

We already decided on a damn ship and its the best of the bunch. Plus we have the complete layout for it. Why are we arguing about this still?

Des, sit in the corner and look at the wall until you learn that because you decided doesn't mean the rest of us agree. Me and Nelo have serious issues with a Akula-class ship.

Beyond this, lets stick to the fact that this is a well funded operation, either by the Empire or the GA or privatized company. We'll still need a big enough ship to hold to correct equipment for surveying and scanning unexplored planets. Vehicles, sophisticated gear, field experts...
At that, we need a ship good enough to provide not only those amenities, but also able to hold its own. Which it why I push for something like the Akula or CR90.

I don't remember voting on the Akula...
In fact, I don't remember voting at all. We were still debating. I think a smaller ship with a small crew is the way to go for this. The empire used 2 man teams in Mu-2 Shuttles and Mesens SCT Scout Craft for exploration missions. We'd be extremely lucky to get a ship with the life support capacity to hold 10 people at a time.

I also was told we were a scouting party and expedition, not a military courier sent out with sidemissions involving biological and geological survey. Given the profile of the ship, it's either going to be completely redesigned to be smaller, weaker, and generally a giant junker, or we need something that fits the theme.

And onto the concept I presented, no less. Unless you wish to claim that you came up with what i proposed, I had no intention of using military grade shielding, massive ships designed for war, and state of the art gear. I suggested that if you were going to do that, make it a worthwhile ship with a crew of forty or more, because outbound flight wasn't a small expedition.
We have no need for a battleship, i have no idea why people desire this much firepower and wasted space for something like this. No corporate sponsor in their right mind would allow such a farce to proceed in their minds, much less a stingy government agency which can barely give their scouts enough food to last the fortnight.

I removed the vote because I counted six votes at the time: Me, Des, Nelo, DA, Rodyn, and either Cale or Stellar. That's pretty much all of us, except Kyra
And Des, take a chillpill. Nothing was in stone yet. If they want something slightly different, I'm all for changing it.
Now, here's what I was imagining: give us something like the Normandy, big enough to have a good sized crew and cargo, but have it devoid of all but the most basic add-ons.
Throughout our journeys, not only might we pick up more crew and cargo, but also upgrades to the ship. Extra shields, a new hyperdrive, etc.
Our employer... Czerka sounds like a good idea. I can easily see them sending us off to claim more planets in their name. Plus, they have a reputation for being heavy handed. I can easily see them giving us just a little too much bang
Now, to Nelo's questions:
1- Since he volunteered, Stellar will GM. I would like him to PM me now 2- Since noone can agree to one, I'll make an executive decision: an Action VI. If it was good enough for Karrde, it'll be good enough for us. 3- I'm putting the year at 41ish ABY. 2nd GCW is over, the house is pretty much a wreck and needs cleaning up and expanding. 4- I believe I listed roles we need at the beginning of the thread: Pilot, Captain, A few droids, Some scientists/researchers, a handful of mercs, and one Jedi for observance. About 20 people. Any roles not picked will be filled by NPC. Captain will be GM. 5- Action VI's max out at a crew of 20. Most of the room in the ship is designated to cargo and the bridge, so room will be tight. 2 people to a room minimum (1 character + 1 npc). Captain has his own room. No room for a shuttle/fighter, just escape pods 6- Starting a roll call. If you're in, say aye. If not, say nay

Can we please make it just after the YV war? I don't want to have to ready up on the Legacy stuff for proper context. There's plenty of motivation for a scout expedition for settable worlds after that war too.
