Almost immediately after he was left alone, Shanya exited the room and headed not towards the stables, but to the cave where he had seen the drawings. He didn't know why, but he just wanted to go there, possibly to clear his mind.

When he arrived, he found two bits of abandoned chalk that was probably used for the drawings. Right then he picked up one piece and began making a picture of two birds.

One of them was a majestic and beautiful dove, but the other was nothing but duckling that stared up at the flying dove with a bit of a dreamy look in his eyes. There were a bunch of crows that surrounded the duckling, as if they meant to pick on him, and then Shanya stopped drawing.

Reiba pulled out his sketchbook to draw. He wasn't sure why, but he needed to clear his mind. That's when he realized that drawing on a simple piece of paper just wasn't going to cut it. So, he snuck into the storage room and grabbed out a canvas. He found all of his paints and his charcoal pencil. Then he began to draw.

He wasn't actually sure what he was drawing at first. It was just a lot of people in a crowd. Then he realized what he was drawing and he dropped his pencil in surprise. He was drawing the scene from earlier that day when he watched those people beating up Shanya. Reiba took a deep breath, then began coloring the scene.

Shanya stared at the frozen picture on the wall. It seemed to describe his very life, even in just one simple drawing. He was, or probably still is, a small boy being bullied by villagers for something that wasn't even his fault. All his life, or at least since the age of five, he had felt a bit jealous toward the king, since it seemed that he had a perfect life, but it turned out that even the king had problems.

"Well, at least the king was never beaten," Shanya said to himself, walking away from the picture and toward an empty area in the cave. He stared at it for a moment, not knowing what to draw. At last, his hand began to move and the image of the two children appeared on the wall. At the moment, the children were running, but to where... or from who or what?

((I don't remember ever mentioning entering the cave. I thought I was in my room.))

(Whoops. I'll fix that.)

Reiba finally finished the drawing, the paint slowly drying on the canvas. Shanya looked completely helpless in the crowd, and all off the villagers looked so mean. Yet, there was a figure in the background. Someone that Reiba hadn't even realized that he had created. It was him.

The familiar monk's robe, the hood pulled a tad bit farther than usual, and the icy blue eyes that rarely anybody else in the entire kingdom had. Plus, not to mention the chocolate brown hair peeking out from underneath the hood. It had to be him. But why did he draw himself in the painting?

There was nothing that the children were running towards or away from. The entire area they were supposed to be between was empty. There was no expression on the children's faces, so there was no way to tell whether they were scared or excited. The way their bodies looked when they ran seemed to be as if they were running away, but it was hard to tell.

Suddenly, there was a crying in the back of the tunnel. Standing up and heading toward the sound, Shanya saw only a dimly lit up chamber. There was a slight chanting that mixed with the crying, as if a sorrowful prayer, but he wasn't sure if he was only hearing things or if what he heard was real.

Reiba decided to draw another picture. Again, he blindly drew and painted on the canvas, only glimpsing at the finished product at the end. Sudden knocking scared him half to death.

"What is it?" He called out calmly, although he was deeply angered.

"Sir? Shanya's missing." Leila's muffled voice came through the door. "We don't know where he is. He hasn't run off, since the guards haven't seen anything, but he didn't return to the stable either." Her voice called out loudly.

Darn it. Reiba cursed under his breath as he walked away from the drying canvas. He pushed passed Leila, who was standing right outside his door, looking at the canvas on the desk. Her jaw dropped a bit. A younger looking Reiba was being torn away from a younger looking Shanya, and it almost seemed as if Reiba were being dragged toward a pit of fire.

There was a slight heat coming from the chamber as well as a glow. The sounds increased and soon the prayer ceased. Emerging from the light was the child that resembled Shanya, but he was terribly afraid and looked ill. In fear as he saw Shanya, he abandoned the light and ran deeper into the cave, fading into the darkness.

Shanya wanted to chase after the child, but he decided there was no use in chasing a ghost, so instead he entered the glowing chamber. There was a fire in the center of the chamber, but the rest of the place was empty. Why had he come here? There was nothing of importance here, right?

There was a sudden echo in the room that sounded a lot like the prayer he had heard. Don't let them take me away. Don't let them take me away. The words seemed to repeat, never showing the slightest hint of fade, but the sounds grew louder until they became a shout. The entrance was then replaced by rock and things that he had never seen before emerged from the walls and Shanya let out a scream.

The strange feeling of arms and hands surrounded him, but he couldn't see anyone there. There were different chants from voices that had no tone, no emotion, and then the fire was gone. Shanya was left in the darkness, unable to move or speak as the invisible arms held him, and still wondering if what had happened was only a dream. It was nearly impossible to imagine how desperately he wished that everything was just a nightmare and he had only fallen asleep outside the cave.

Reiba reached the cave faster than he remembered from before. Yay... new record. Reiba cheered flatly in his mind. But he knew what was probably going to happen, so he began running into the cave. A dim glow came from one of the caverns, and a figure was entering it.

Reiba shook his head, dashing toward the opening. But as soon as the figure disappeared into the cave, a rock sealed off the entrance. Reiba, delirious with fear and panic, began throwing his shoulder into the boulder. He felt it dislocate, and the all-too-familiar smell and feel of blood running down his arm filled his senses. But he ignored it all, and finally, he heard a crack. Was it the boulder?

The young king ran his hand over where he had been pounding, and yes, there was a small crack. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the paint brush that he hadn't yet used, but hadn't left in his room. He stuck it in the crevice and began make the crevice larger. Strange chanting filled his ears, and the horrible memories from his painting ran through his head. He couldn't let any of that happen again.

There was a continuous pounding from the entrance, but there was no comfort. For all he knew, whoever wanted to come in was late for the strange ritual of whatever was going on. Shanya panicked when he felt that something was wrong. There were people on his mind that he couldn't remember, but why is it that he was sure he met them today? Who were those people? Why couldn't he remember their names and faces?

Terror ran over him and he tried to block out the constant chanting. He tried to scream, but he still wasn't able to speak. Struggling against the arms that held him down, a pain suddenly ran over him and he was forced to stop. Even breathing was slowly killing him, draining out his very life bit by bit.

Shanya was only aware of some glowing object, or two, at the entrance. They were pushing at it, trying to let whoever was outside in. Everything was blurred, so he couldn't identify the objects no matter how hard he tried. The voices and arms didn't seem to notice them, so maybe Shanya was the only one seeing them. In that case, he must be crazy. There was a sudden crack and the chantings stopped for a moment, but they hurriedly continued as if just a second of a pause would reverse everything.

The crack grew and grew, until finally, it became a hole. Reiba wasn't sincerely happy about it, since he knew that there was too much more that had to be accomplished before he could get through. So the young king continued, pounding and pounding away at the rock until the hole began to grow again and rapidly too.

The sound of chanting quickened, and Reiba couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated about the whole thing. Flashes of his picture and his own memories flooded his mind as he furiously tore away at the rock. Finally, there was a hole big enough for the young boy to fit right through.

Reiba slipped through the hole and the chanting almost seemed to stop. Just the eerie silence. "Let him go." Reiba muttered, sensing that there was people there although he didn't see anything.

After more ear-shattering pounds that came from the opening, the chanting suddenly ceased and the memories that almost disappeared came back to Shanya as fast as a tsunami wave. The commanding voice of the king brought tension into the room, but there was just silence besides the sound of breathing.

The arms then let go of him, but Shanya didn't dare try to move. He was afraid of what may happen if he did. Still frightened, he listened for any hints of a single whisper. So far, there was nothing, but it seemed that way before the attack as well, so he couldn't exactly be sure.

Reiba walked over to Shanya, placing a hand softly on the younger boy's shoulder. "Oi, you alright?" He asked softly, almost afraid to speak. Without waiting for a reply, the young king began to pull Shanya toward the opening that he had made in the rock. He didn't sense anybody trying to stop them, so he kept on backing up.

"Shanya, go through." He muttered, placing the younger boy's hand on the edge of the hole. "As soon as you get out, run as fast as you can towards my room. Leila's waiting for you at the castle opening."

Still shaky, but unwilling to disobey, Shanya nodded and hurried through the opening. He wanted to wait for the king to follow, but his body didn't seem to listen to him and so he sprinted out of the cave and back toward the castle. Though regrettable, he didn't bother to look back to see if the king was behind. His thoughts were set on heading back to the safety of the castle.

Once he was only a short distance away, Shanya slowed his sprinting to a walk. It was usually dangerous to walk alone at night, but it's not like someone would go to the field to hurt him or anything. Besides, the palace isn't far off, so he should be fine.
