"Okay!" Rex was getting really excited now. Injured foot forgotten, the boy shot to his feet, only to be reminded by it when he collapsed onto a knee.

"Eh." Rex scrambled to get up again, fearing that the spell would wear up before he had a chance to try his new, if not temporary, wings out. Wincing as a jolt of pain ran up his foot, Rex shook his head and ignored it, then straightened himself out. Taking a deep breath, he... wait. How do you get wings to work?

"Um..." Rex scratched his head, then tried to get a feel of the wings. Flap? Twitch? To his delight, they actually responded. The boy's face lit up with a mixture of wonderful emotions, and readied himself for liftoff.

"Okay, here I go!" For an idea of how one should take off, Rex closed his eyes and pictured Andi - she's too small. No, Rex pictured Gryff taking off, and copied the gryphon's movements. Stretching his wings out as far as he could, Rex swept them down in one fluid motion. Two, and he could feel himself getting lighter. Three, and...

The boy opened his eyes as King squeaked, and found himself floating a few feet off the ground.

"I did it!" Oh my goodness, he was off the ground!

He watch in an amused silence as Rex tried to figure out how to get the wings to work. Luckly for him these responded to mind comands much easier than real ones

"Very good" he clapped

Rex grinned at Birvan, positively beaming and swelling with joy as the man clapped and said very good. "Thank you!"

His confidence rising, Rex gave another mighty flap of the wings and soared higher, thought not too. Birvan's warning was still clear in his mind, and the boy was determined to make these wings last as long as possible.

Looking around him, realized just then how wonderful a place the entire HQ was. Boy, was everything different up here. Chuckling as King chirred at the scenery before him, Rex sniffed and enjoyed the view for a few more seconds before swooping back down towards Birvan, circling a few feet above him.

"The view up there is awesome, Birvan!" Rex exclaimed, waving at the sky. "Wanna come up and see?"

He watched the Mishap flying around the gronds. It was strange to admite but he actually had some talent

Shame you weren't born winged

"No thank you, it would only make the spell fade. But I'll join you" he took what look like a skateboard without wheels from the depts of his coat

Tossing it to the air and getting on top of it, Birvan flew around Rex. He didn't look like the calm person standing on the ground a second ago, but quite alert and energetic

"Are you coming or what?"

Rex nodded at the explanation. Pity, really. What he did not know, was that Birvan had his own ways of taking into the air. The boy watched curiously as the man took out a strange looking board, and laughed when he zipped around him. Of course!

"Sure I am!" The boy dived under Birvan and up again, enjoying his moments in the in the air, even though a certain voice of worry nagged at the back of his head.

Ah, but what if the spell fades?

Ah, even the man flies! King barked out to Birvan in a hello-you-fly-too greeting. He was enjoying the flight too, though the natural tyrannosaur instinct kept nagging danger at the back of his head, which, unlike Rex, the tyrannosaur ignored well enough. The dragon's blood used the twin's creation had served to soothe any ill feelings towards this flight thing. No, the original owner of the blood was perfectly at home in the air.

"Lets see what you can do" he started doing several air stunts around Rex and the trees, including some loops and sharp turns. He was careful not to try the risky ones though, not wanting to inspire Rex in the wrong way

Rex hovered in mid-air and watched in silent awe as various aerial tricks were performed by Birvan. Blinking a little, the boy bit his lower lip as he pondered on his ability to follow them, before shrugging simply. Oh well. He'd just have to try, wouldn't he?

Tail-a-waggin', the boy took a deep breath, and started on the stunts. Rex tried a few of the loops and turns that Birvan did earlier, though they were not as agile due to his size and the stubborn inertia that came with being a ten feet large semi-dinosaur. What he did discover though, was if he made use of his tail, he could turn better - though certainly not nearly as good as Birvan's.

Birvan sat on his hoverboard as Rex tried to mimic his stunts. For someone with such 'mass' he did farely well, specially when he used the tail for balance

"Not bad, specially for a first try. With a bit more training you'd beat every bird in the sky"

"Eheh." Rex rubbed the back of his head, before flying up beside Birvan. "Thank you, though I'm not sure I'll have the chance to fly again."

As soon as the words left his lips, Rex could feel himself decending slowly. Surprised, the boy looked behind him, and noticed the wings starting to fade. "See? The wings are agreeing. Guess I better go down before an earthquake happens." Rex laughed a little, and willed himself to decend before the wings disappeared completely. It had been fun while they lasted, but the boy could not help but feel just a little sad at not being able to ascend to the skies again.

"Rrrru?"

He followed and landed just a second after Rex did

"Pity... but I'm sure you can manage to find a solution like I did" he pointed to the hoverboard before storing it away under the coat

"And until then... " he took another feather, but this one seamed a lot like the spectral wings Rex had "... keep this one by your bed before you go to sleep. It will allow you vivid dreams of flights"

If Rex had any ears, they would be perked up straight atop his head at Birvan's direction. Well, assuming they were perkable, that is.

"Really?" Rex gave the hoverboard one good glance before it disappeared into the man's coat. Now how did.. he would really have to learn such a handy trick one day. "I've never thought of that." Of course he didn't, as the boy have not tasted the sweet feeling of flight before.

Then, all of Rexier's attention was on the one feather flourished by Birvan. Speechless, the boy took it gently in his hands, careful not to damage such a fragile item. He ran a shaking finger along the shaft of the feather just as the spectral wings faded completely, the original feather floating to the ground.

Feather. King notified his twin just as the boy was about to look at Birvan.

Oh? Rex turned around and, spotting the old feather, bent down and picked it up. Soon enough it laid in his hand too, and the boy turned to Birvan, his expression a softer one.

"Thank you."

"Let your imagination run wild and I'm sure you'll find a way"

He grabed the old looking feather from Rex's hand. Soon it faded to dust and was blown away by the cold breeze

"And I must get going now. Can I ask you one last favour?"

Rex watched with a tinge of sadness as the feather become nothing in Birvan's hand. He looked up to the man as he spoke, and smiled, nodding.

"Sure."

Rex blinked, surprised at the sudden change of behaviour.

"Okay, but why?" Then, as an afterthought, "Not even my mom?"
