I don't understand why a grunny needs to be incinerated. They're all already infected, and it makes them lovable in a dangerous kind of way.

Well...an idea and that perhaps give a sense to all could be:
That this grunny has got infected with this new virus making its DNA to change into something different and giving also a new apparel turning into a prunny.
Well, that if there is not a previous explanation for a prunny existence.
